I have been coming to Damburger since I was a child -- probably about 20 years -- and I have to say, I can never get enough of it! Damburger is an institution in Redding, CA. It dates back to 1938 and has been serving up the best burgers since Shasta Dam began its construction, hence the name. The inside probably hasn't changed in just about as long, and has a comforting old school burger joint/diner kind of vibe. My favorite place to sit is right at the counter where you can see all the action and chat with the owners who are often around. In my opinion its simple yet addictive thin patty burgers rival even In N Out. I always get a single dam with "The Works" and it never disappoints. Flavorful, crispy, quality, iconic. Damburger is one of the most consistent restaurants around, and personally I love that the menu never really changes. I pair the single dam with some fries, sriracha sauce, and if I'm really feeling crazy -- a malted vanilla milkshake, which is my dad's favorite. Even though I don't live in Redding, I make it a point to come to Dambuger at least once, but usually twice, in every trip. If you're visiting, this is a MUST go, can't skip restaurant. And if you're a local and you haven't been yet... well what are you waiting for???

You gotta love this place- The service is excellent, never had a bad meal, and it fits the bill for a great hamburger place or hotdog. Counter top dining or you can go out to the patio. Fries and shakes are exceptional. The staff keeps this place spic and span

What a find in downtown Redding! We were looking for Summer Nights at the Park which wasn't open so this place struck us as a fitting replacement. It reminds me of the hamburger spots from my youth and the location is outstanding right near some hot spots. Entering I noticed it was full, the customers were all smiling and the atmosphere was welcoming. We were greeted promptly and our questions answered. We both chose the double Hot Dams and I highly recommend it. The burgers were perfectly cooked, cheese fresh and condiments well matched. We got out for twenty bucks for two doubles with fries, matching up to where we are from we could have purchased a single with bacon for the same. I highly recommended this place to everyone who is hungry... it's the perfect spot.

We love this place. It was our first time here, we were just traveling through. It is such a cute place, it reminds me of old burger places back in the day (80's). The burger wasn't greasy, it had a great flavour, even the original (1/6 lb) was plenty for me. My husband ordered the double and that was enough meat for him. The four of us loved the French fries so much, we got another order to share. The service was fast. We only sat at a table for about 2 minutes and someone came by to take our order. Then about a minute later, another person asked us if we would like to order. They are friendly here and the place is very clean. We enjoy a burger night a few times a month during warm weather. This is a place we will return to any time we are in the area! Give it a try, it's like being transported back in time minus the old arcade games.

I always like to find mom an pop burger places rather than the big chains, tho I still love In N Out! Damburger is a place to stop if you're in Redding often like I am. Service is friendly and the food comes out without a long wait. Outdoor dining is available if the weather is nice. I was here with a friend and we both got burgers and shared a order of fries. The food was hot and tasty. Sure, there's a lot of burger places around , but Damburger is one of the better ones. The prices aren't rock bottom, but the food isn't either. Check this place out.

Damburger, I love thee with all my heart. A double damburger with cheese & the works. Living nearby has its perks. A PB shake or Rootbeer Float. I think we'll need a bigger boat. Fries to share, crispy and hot... extra fry sauce hits the spot. I will be back, because can't you see---I love the dam place endlessly! read more

Loved this place when my husband first took me years ago... the flat top burger is perfect, thin and crispy on the edges ! I order a double w/ mustard, mayo, pickles , onion and lettuce and it's always delicious. It had been a while since we'd been there since I went gluten free , until I found out they offer GF burger buns and they are actually good buns ! Order their fries extra crispy and they are the perfect side. We love this place! read more

Dan burgers been doing the same burger the same way as long as I've been alive. There's nothing flashy. Just fast service a consistent burger, good quality, beef good staff. It's a little hot during the day but the restaurants been there forever. I'm a regular. Helenburger every time. read more

This was a decent find. I enjoyed my server Athena, she was attentive, helpful among many other things. The food was decent, and I enjoyed my tiny lil strawberry shake...I didn't like having the BGs afterwards, but life is full of choices, right? Anyone is entitled to write a negative review. Personally, I don't understand why you would write a negative one about this Shasta staple. I ate here for the first time last weekend and I just really hope I don't keep going for fear of making burgers a habit. These burgers are good. Really good. Actually, the best in Shasta County, is my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are smash burger style, right? Thin, crispy, somewhat charred patties--which I prefer--unless you get the Helen burger--which I have yet to try. Classic, American burger and fries--tasty fries. All in all, my preferences match the Damburger's style. I guess I belong in Redding. Exactly what I'd been looking for in a burger. Always drove by it on Placer, but never tried it because I was alway on a diet. Well, that's not the case anymore. Can't wait to try everything else on the menu (including vegetarian/vegan options). Small burger- 5/10 taste, fries almost as good as McDonalds, milk shake-may be strawberry nestle quik. The last straw was trying to drink a milkshake through a paper straw haha. I was really let down, prices should be lower if it's not even close to the hype. read more

Finally went back after friends kept saying it's good. Way too expensive and not very filling. Hamburgers are ok... almost like McDonald's but with crispy patties. Not recommended unless you want an expensive snack or just want to try it yourself. read more

Thin patties, nice flavors and don't make you feel gross and weighed down after eating one. We paid 23.92 plus a gratuity for 1Single Dam meal, 1 Double Dam, 1 Single Dam and a small shake. They have a Helen burger which is twice the size of a Dam Burger. But a Dam burger is 1/2 the size of a burger elsewhere. Hence the reason for a pleasantly full sensation rather then being stuff. I liked it. read more

Santa here, Been a while since I have posted. Been in eastern Canada and Portland Maine, then I flew the sleigh to Portland, Oregon. This is the place if you want an old fashioned hamburger (with a slight twist) and fries. I really like the way they prepare the very thin patties, so you need to at least order a double (which is now the size of a regular hamburger). The service is good and with a limited menu they can get the food out fast, so it a great lunch stop. read more

Although it is a tad on the pricey side, the food was delicious! The patties are simply thin and crispy and the chipotle mayo was delicious! I was EXTREMELY disappointed that there were no tomatoes available to add to my burger, but the fact that there was some fry sauce to dip my French fries in helped with that disappointment. Overall our service was absolutely AMAZING and super friendly even though it was a bit crowded! I also wish this place were open for dinner!!! read more

The inside of Damburger matches the outside of Damburger. We were here with a few other people last month. The food was good. I had a double BBQ dam and would get it again. Service was good. Indoor and outdoor seating. Many milkshake flavors. Plenty of parking on the street. If we find ourselves in Redding looking for a burger, we shall return. read more

The best Damburger by a dam site!!! I was definitely pleased and left with a smile! The burger was simple and delicious, very tasty, but I really love the service, the history, and the story!!! We went to visit the dam the day before and Brian told us about this damburger and how important the dam was to this community. I mentioned damburger and he told us the story and how it tied into feeding the dam builders... So here we are, 80 yrs later!!Gotta get the damburger, of course after seeing the dam!!! def will be back next the for the original double damburger!!! read more

Ok, maybe I am completely missing something here- like maybe this is a zombie cult hamburger place loved by locals, but it was probably the worse burger I have ever had. The hot damburger was paper thin- think philly cheese steak thin. It was so thin In fact that it took me three bites to realize I was eating the meat. I used to a big juicy burger and there is no way to make 3 ounces of meat big or juicy. It was then smothered in mustard and mayo some terrible iceberg lettuce. The fries were hot and crispy so this place gets 2 stars. Service was also fine- pleasant waitress but not pleasant enough to make up for the non-existent burger. read more

Our location offers indoor and outdoor seating, and we're great for groups and families. We also welcome well behaved dogs on our patio! History

Established in 1938.

The Damburger is a Redding institution which began in 1938. Bud Pennington, it's founder, had the enterprising idea to sell hamburgers from a tent outside the hiring hall for the construction of Shasta Dam. Bud's successful enterprise then led to a permanent location in downtown Redding on Yuba Street where his wife Babe and longtime employee Marge Thayer helped run the business. Bud and Babe kept the Damburger going for almost forty years, moving it first to Pine Street and finally to its present location in 1962. The couple retired in 1977, selling the business to Mike and Vicki Carr who kept it going for 18 months. Ron and Kathy Dickey purchased Damburger in 1979 and ran it for 26 years before retiring in Ashland Oregon. Today Damburger is run by their daughters Julie Malik and Nell Cox and manager, Marla Nevens.

A generous serving of scrambled eggs, mixed with ham, potatoes and cheese. Served with a pancake that was as big as a plate. He's a 17 year old and a big eater and could not finishe the whole thing. I had the Cortez with steak. Basically a bowl full of eggs mixed with corn tortillas (or Texas Migas) added steak that was amazingly tenders If you're in Redding this is the breakfast spot! We're talking about goi g back to try their burger!

Located in the Placer Heights Plaza, next to Starbucks. Same plaza as Holiday Market and CVS Pharmacy. We were seated immediately as they were not busy. The menu was a bit different than online. Our server came to take our order. He didn't introduce himself and seemed like he didn't want to be there. We decided on the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken sandwich and catfish po' boy. When the po' boy came out, we thought it was burnt! We didn't know the catfish will be blackened by default. We thought it will be fried since it is a po' boy. The options can be blackened or fried based on the menu online. We were not given those options by our server. They brought out the food but didnt provide utensils until minutes later. Fried green tomatoes: It was good. Fried perfectly. The dressing that was tossed with the side salad was super salty. Catfish po' boy: Fish was tender but super salty as well. Fried chicken sandwich: Pretty good sandwich. Chicken was huge. The fries was so soggy, not crispy at all. Also very greasy. We were a bit disappointed as we drove out of our way to try this place. Nice ambiance though. I felt I was a bit underdressed lol

First time coming here, heard about a great burger. Walked up to the window outside. Keep in mind it was not busy there were 3 tables outside. The ones that were already filled were already eating or had their food. The woman working the window took at least 4 to 5 minutes to acknowledge us. She then opened the window- didn't ask if we were dining there or taking an order to go- just said go sit down and and someone will take our order. She was rude and seemed as if she really didn't want to help us at all because right after she made that abrupt comment she slammed the window in our face. Taken back by this we of course took a seat and was hoping for a friendly face to greet us and take our order. We waited there for 37 minutes. No one came. We watched as all the tables cleared. We won't back up the window to ask for help and they didn't open it back up. So we left. Unsure of what was going on or why we were treated so badly since we weren't even given the opportunity to speak one word to anyone there. Walked into restaurant after nearly beening attack by a mental I'll woman. I ordered my food. Was waiting for it. I'm 65 and disabled. She came in came up to me and started screaming at me.i had paided and tiped the server. I asked for help!! Didn't have my phone. A fat Mexican kid told ME!( To leave!? Truw bag of my food at me!! This place is NOT LGBQT. Friendly!!! I've live all over this country l. Never!! Have been told to leave anywhere EVER!? And the burger wasn't good!! I got sick!! I have been eating Damburgers for over 30 years and they are still my favorite! Definitely not your average burger as the meat patties are really thin, crisp and flavorful, which is satisfying without making you feel like you just ate a whole cow. Try the fries "crispy" if you want another treat. Friends from out of town can't visit without at least one trip to Damburger (which is always fine with me). I love Damburger, it's the best! I've been eating there since I was a teenager in the 70's. We would have burgers and fries before walking over the the Cascade to catch a movie. The food hasn't changed in all the years I've been going, it's just as tasty...love the thin patties, yum! Their shakes and malts are the best in town.
