My coworkers and I were celebrating a coworkers birthday. We ordered from Damenzos . After we received our food we realized that we had incomplete food and I didn't receive my sandwich at all. I talked to the manager and he accused me of trying to steal a $10 sandwich when we purchased $150 worth of food. The Italian beef sandwiches were dry like they were left out overnight. He didn't replace my sandwich which he claimed I didn't order. The bottom line is I was a customer of theirs for years and I didn't think that I would be treated this way. I was raised on Taylor street and I grew up eating Damenzo's it was the best pizza in Chicago hands down. I moved from the neighborhood 5 years ago . When I moved to Wisconsin I was driving to Damenzo's on Taylor st to eat pizza and enjoy the ride back to the city. On 10-31-21 I went to get some slices with the family but for my surprise the taste and the thickness of the pizza is gone. I have frequented this place about five times. I have tried their jumbo pizza slices and once I ordered their largest pizza. I like their pizza, but it seems different from what I'm use, both in good and bad ways. The bad! The crust is flavorless and annoyingly noticeable. The good! The sausage balls are hugh and flavorable. The sauce is very good and also noticeable. For some reason I often find myself craving their pizza, although I can't explain why. This place is pretty great, it's pretty clear why people like to hate on this place. I find it funny that people come in here expecting red carpet treatment... Leave the bullshit at home and see this place for what it is. Honestly, if you're looking to be blown away by craftsmanship or something new - Damenzo's isn't for you! It's a neighborhood restaurant that focuses on fast food, nothing more! Sure the food can be a hit or miss... just like any other fast food joint. You either Love them or you hate them and at the end of the day none of it matters because they aren't going anywhere! They are obviously doing something right and the test of time has proven that. They are always busy and there is a reason for that! If you are not a fan, there are a billion other places on Taylor St. to choose from and guess what -- Damenzo's couldn't care less! I have never been disappointed, I know what to expect when dining in / ordering out from places like Damenzo's. The pizza is good along with everything else they offer. Worse place ever avoid at all cost. I was a loyal customer I have been going for decades but now never again. I ordered my food for pick up they said 25-30 min wait am like OK. I got there in 35min these people gave my order to some one else then told me that they did and said there making my order fresh why would they tell me that. So it's 1st come 1st serve I don't know why they have phone orders then and wanted payment after they told me food wasn't there and had to wait 25min more. I lived off of damenzos for quite some time last February, and surprisingly my GI tract had never been better. For catering to every demographic, damenzos is killing it. Pizza bigger than my head, tortas, tacos, chicken wings, sandwiches, desserts. This places leaves little to be desired. My favorites include the pizza and Mexican food; their tacos are super delish. You can spend 5-10 dollars here and be uncomfortably full for hours. It's a great bang for he buck. Did I mention that they're open late?! In review, I like this place a lot. How can this be you ask?? well let me tell you that Damenzo's was initially an Italian staple here on Taylor street, offering giant pizza slices, yummy pastas, sandwiches and salads. A few years ago, the owner opened up a taco joint around the corner "Papi's Tacos" on Western Ave... If I am not mistaken, I think he earned best burrito in chicago honors from one of the local newspapers at one point (don't quote me on that).. Anywho.. a couple of years later, the two restaurants are now merged at the recently remodeled Damenzo's location on Taylor St. Now when I dine here, I wrestle over what I want to eat.. Do I want a giant slice of sausage pizza or a burrito?? A steak torta or a giant calzone?? Good thing is that everything here is pretty damn good, so regardless of my choice, my stomach will thank me! The owner and staff are very friendly and eager to get your order taken and served. The restaurant is clean, and has plenty of seating in the two dining areas and the outdoor patio. Must have: I say try the one fo the giant pizza slices or the giant calzone.. Both are very tasty and very big, so keep that in mind. You can easily share a calzone between two people and a pizza slice is almost too big for one person. This banquet hall is just hands down amazing!! I just attended a wedding there this past Saturday. Although I never even knew this place existed because it is well hidden between other buildings, the inside is just gorgeous! It brings a chicago urban vibe along with gorgeous architecture plus intimacy. The bar was big, although they probably should have had two bartenders. The fettuccine alfredo and chicken parm were soooo good too. Loved the layout and brick walls. The era of pizza places that offer huge single slices is disappearing. So I'm glad places like Damenzo's still exist. My first encounter with a Damenzo's pizza slice will be forever memorable. It was cut up and put on a plate for me and it literally looked like a half a pizza was served. I loved it. I've also tried their famous pizza puff, but to me, it seemed a tad too big and bready for me. I did love the tomato sauce it came with, it was great for dipping. Everything we ordered seemed fresh and delicious. They get a big thumbs up for their cheese fries, I'd definitely get them again. Yesterday I had purchased two cheese slices and the cheese had an odd taste. The crust was hard. It was a waste of $12.

Worst pizza, staff, customer and overall service ever in Illinois. We ordered a large stuffed pizza for pickup and the staff mishandled it, giving us a wrong one with sausage (we don't eat pork). My wife called to complain about it and the person talking to her, was unprofessional. Asked us to bring the wrong pizza back. He was not interested in fix the matter, compensate in any way, but to get the pizza back. We drove all the way back and my wife was there to get the refund and give the wrong product back. The woman who took the order was also present at the moment and she was talking to the coworker in Spanish and in a bad way "¿Qué?¿ No le gustó?" Not knowing that my wife is trilingual. So my review is for the one item I do faithfully order over and over and over again: the pannini. You see, when it's good it is very, very good. And when it is not so good, it's still very good. Sometimes it's the size of my hand; sometimes it's the size of my head. Sometimes it's the perfect blend of meat, cheese, and veggies; sometimes it's just an oozing mess of dressing and loaded with enough onion to ensure you will never, ever get that first kiss no matter how many years lapse from the time you ate the sandwich to the time you parted your lips in expectant ecstasy. I went there with a friend yesterday after he had a proceedure at the hospital around the corner. Neither oif us had eaten all day and we were starving. He got a slice and a pop and I had the mostacholi and meatballs. We both got the minestroni soup. Wer had the unfortunate luck to get Minia to take our order. Not only did she NOT get the order correct, we asked for the reciept three times, were never given one, and she told us she only charged us for one of the drinkls. Well, without a reciept we had no way of knowing. She even came so far as to come to the table and begin to argue with us when we voiced our displeasure- all while I was on the phone with a client. Then came the horrible food... My pasta was swimming in water before they put the sauce on it (despite being asked to make sure it was drained)- so I had soup instead of pasta and sauce. Our soup, which Minia forgot to give us after charging us for it, was brought to the table cold. Further, while my friend ate his, it was soo watered down I found it to be inedible. When Minia AGAIN came to the table looking for an altercation, this time she got one as we both started screaming! I have never had such a horrible expierience ANYWHERE! The pizza, however, was off the hook and looked amazing! They really should focus on keeping people with poor customer service skills away from the customers. Some 15 years now. damn that sucks! anyway i can remember the joys of piling 6 or 7 deep in a tiny nissan pulsar and making the trek from the HS parking lot over to Damenzo's. the trip back to the parking lot didn't always happen thus the reason for summer school which appears below. back then $2.50 made a kid feel like a king. 1st question: If you were supposedly shot in a neighborhood while delivering pizza, would you go back to work and deliver again in same neighborhood? 2nd question: as a manager would you send your employee back to the same area where he was supposedly shot in the arm? 3rd question: as a business owner would you not remove that area off your map and label "can not deliver for safety reasons for employees" I would rather a business explain to me "sorry due to the safety of our employees we are not able to deliver to your home" INSTEAD we were sent a racist delivery driver who wanted to waive at us to come to his vehicle to receive pizza! No! The proper way is to get out of vehicle, ring doorbell and hand customer their food. At that time there was a discrepancy with the amount we were told to pay over phone versus the amount he told us. Any sane person would want a clear understanding of a $13 difference! The driver literally drove off after asking rudely do you want the pizza or not! When we called, the manager tried to explain he's that way because he was "supposedly" shot in the arm in our area! What was to be a 45 minute wait turned into nearly 1 1/2 hours! Manager was able to send another driver after my friend had a 20 minute conversation about how to treat people professionally. I ordered delivery from Damenzo's Pizza and, as usual, the person I spoke to on the phone rushed me through my order and wasn't very customer friendly. They have good food no doubt, but they should have a more friendly and welcoming person doing their phone orders. In addition to this annoyance, the delivery driver calls me to let me know that he is outside with my order. I go to the door and there he is sitting in his vehicle. This is unacceptable to me considering it cost me $4.50 for delivery. I am under the impression that a delivery driver delivers your food to your doorstep, an thus also earning a tip. So, here I am outside with my socks and a t-shirt on in the cold paying for my food. I engaged in a discussion with him about my displeasure at having to come outside to get my own food. He was apologetic and cited that they don't get out of their vehicles because of safety concerns. Are you serious? Give me a break. If there is a concern for driver safety, then it would probably be a good idea to not be open until Midnight. Try only allowing delivery hours during the day. I don't recommend eating at the restaurant, the decor isn't very inviting, but the food is fantastic. It's an excellent spot for take-out orders. Had a important meeting set up close to their store. Pizza was delivered 55 minutes late. When calling the shop to see what was going on they could not of been any indifferent. Actually gave me the number to follow up with their "delivery guy". Pizza came cold and the "manager" did not think 55 minutes late was a big deal. This restaurant was really great the first time I was serviced! So great that I came back and brought a friend. *Please Read* I originally ordered the buffalo wings hot, all flats. My order was made to perfection. The second time around I ordered the same thing but the manager on duty told me they couldn't do "all flats" I explained that that was my reason for returning so he placed my order. All flats great. The chicken wings come in an aluminum tin with fries and garlic bread. When my wings were brought to me this time my fries were ON TOP of my wings and drenched in hot sauce.....
