I've used this business multiple times when I've needed custom screens for rental properties or clients have needed a resource for screens. Like some of the best Austin businesses, the face of the business, presumably Dan White himself, doesn't stand on decorum and is sometimes a little grumpy, but he is always spot on with measurements and a well made screen at prices I don't walk away crying over (custom screens at premade prices. He understands that older homes have non-standard sized windows, so each screen is built to fit each slightly different sized window, and his shop's craftsmanship is perfect. I spoke with Dan about needing to block light to protect fine art. When he came to my home he was able to show me the exact level of solar screen needed to take care of my artwork. We purchased a home with no screens and were desperate to get this sorted straight away. Doug made it happen within one week-- measuring the windows and installing. We never actually met, he was able to do upstairs and downstairs solar and regular shades without getting into the property. There was even a problem with one window where part of the metal around the frame had fallen off. He made a special screen that would cover the gap so that we did not need to have the window itself fixed. This company is awesome. I gave them my measurements and orders piecemeal and entirely through email, since I was figuring out which screens I wanted as I went along. When I did have to talk on the phone, they were extremely polite. I had my girlfriend pick them up and she also gushed about how nice they were in person. I also ended up with a sliding screen door with the incorrect type of header, and I emailed Doug about 10 minutes before closing on a Friday afternoon. He replied to me instantly about what was wrong (I hadn't been clear enough in my pictures) and told me to drop it off at my leisure and he would fix it. I had the correct screen Monday morning. I used Dan White's Screens and Things to screen my entire house 3 years ago. They did a great job. 2 months ago one of the metal wheels wore out on one of the very frequently used screen doors. I asked for some replacement wheels, and Doug sent them to me free of charge. I was not smart enough to install them myself. So I put the screens in the car and hustled down to their store. Dan replaced the wheels on the screen door FREE of CHARGE while I was waiting in about 10 minutes. I insisted on paying, but Dan insisted on NOT charging me. My door works great now. You won't meet a nicer guy than Doug White, the owner of Dan White's Screens. He came to the house to measure, gave me the quote the next day (in a 7:30AM email). The screens were ready about two weeks later, custom-made for our windows. We were traveling at the time but Doug installed the screens anyway. We paid when we returned home after we had a chance to inspect his work -- I offered to pay via credit card over the phone from vacation. He wouldn't have it. Wow! Dan White's team just delivered and installed our reconditioned screens for the front of our house. I've been totally happy with this company from start to finish. I have a 50+ year old craftsman house with wood framed screens. The screens needed to be replaced, and I had made one attempt in the past to get them redone and had run into nothing but up-selling. "You need new windows and then new screens, and you'd better get new insulation as long as you're getting new windows. Blah. Blah." Yes, maybe so. But all I wanted was new screens. Dan White visited our home, gave us an estimate, advised me to have my present screens redone instead of getting new aluminum ones, picked up my screens, and brought them back and reinstalled them. They look great and don't scream, "New screens on an old house!" My only regret is that I didn't have all my screens redone. I'm working on that now. Really. These guys are great. read more

Doug just finished building our screen enclosure for our patio and we can't stay out of this area! We went by his guidance and suggestions and we couldn't be happier with the results. It just blends right in with the house and he suggested that we get the sturdier screens because we have 4 cats just in case they try to scratch it. Now that it is done, we just continue to admire the workmanship - the screens fit nice and tight, frame is done perfectly and the door, which he suggested we get the 8' door to match the other exterior doors, looks great. Doug is also a stickler for the details; color matching, etc. The whole experience was easy - he came out promptly to look at the area and gave us a very fair estimate for the quality of work and professional clean-up!
