You'd think that if a company got an order wrong on the first try that they would take particular pains to get it right on the second. Sadly, that wasn't my experience at Dan White's. When I took one of my window screens down for annual window cleaning, it was clear that it needed to be replaced. Dan White's had done well on a similar job for me a few years back, so I took the old screen in to them. The people there seemed to be in a hurry, but they said that they were familiar with the screen's style and were confident that they could make a replacement. Their quote was on the high end of reasonable, but since their shop was a short drive from my home, I accepted it. A couple of days later when I went in to pick up the new screen, I noticed that they had neglected to cut the 2 slots in the frame that accommodate the clips that hold the screen in place. Without the slots, there is no easy way to secure the screen, and it can fall out when the window is opened. When I explained this to the person behind the counter, I could tell that she was dubious, but eventually she was able to find my old screen and saw what I needed. She was very apologetic and assured me that it would be ready the next day. When I went in the next day, I found that the slots had indeed been cut in my new screen. However, upon comparing the positioning of the slots to that on the old screen, it was clear that they were cut in slightly different positions than they were on old screen (see accompanying picture). Since these slots have to align with the corresponding slots in the window frame, there really isn't much leeway in where they are cut. When I pointed this out to the woman behind the counter, she explained that it isn't easy to cut the slots in just the right places. (Arguably, misplaced slots are just as useless as no slots at all, but I kept this observation to myself.) When I installed the screen, neither slot was close enough that the clip would go in, but I wasn't about to return to the shop for a third try. I managed to wedge it in tightly enough that it stays in place, however inelegantly. I would like to point out that I have had a similar screen fabricated at a competing local screen company in the past, and they had no trouble noticing the slots and getting them cut them in precisely the correct locations on the first try. Everybody makes mistakes. I understand that. However, making basically the same mistake twice suggests either apathy or carelessness. The folks at Dan White's seemed nice enough if somewhat hurried, so I'll go with the latter assessment. Either way, they certainly would not be my first choice for future screen replacement needs.

Big shutout to Doug and his team. They did an INCREDIBLE job installing screens on my patio. Everything was done in one morning and they left everything clean and neat. They even came back a few weeks later to adjust the custom door. To be fair, I was afraid the screens would darken my living room, but they are barely noticeable. They look BEAUTIFUL and the quality is impeccable. Add outdoor flooring, a nice sofa and a couple ceiling fans and BANG you got yourself a killing patio. Couldn't be happier with this decision. No more bugs! *Job was done in January 2020*

Screen enclosure

We used Dan White Screens and Things to install a screen enclosure a couple of years back. They did a great job then and were responsive and fast. Fast forward to today, our dog scratched on the the screens looking for bunnies outside and we had a large rip on one screen. The strong winds also loosened a small section of another screen. Reached out to Doug White, who was able to help us get our screens fixed quickly and at a reasonable price. Not only did they get both screens fixed quickly, they also noticed out door wasn't closing easily - we didn't even ask for it but they fixed it for us and it closes super smooth again now. Highly recommend them!!

Sarah handles most of the communication and she was extremely responsive and patient with all the questions I had. Scheduling an in-house consultation was easy and didn't cost a thing. They came well prepared, with samples of products, took all the measurements, and helped me pick out a variety of roller and zebra shades that matched well with my current decor that were affordable without trying to upsell me on anything fancy or excessive. In fact, they had to talk me out of more expensive options when I inquired about them! They even came back out a second time without hesitation because I had second thoughts about the initial choices and wanted to look at products. You pay a deposit of half the invoice amount for them to order the products, and the other half after they finish installation. Very fair and straightforward. It takes about 2-3 weeks after placing the order for the product shipment to arrive, and my installation was scheduled for a couple days after that. Incredibly quick turnaround. They do everything themselves, including the installation which went smoothly. I had a few motorized shades as part of my order, and they were setup with various groupings and presets and paired well with a remote. They are committed to coming back out in the future if anything needs to be adjusted or fixed, which is very assuring. They even took the time to help me with some lingering items around the house that I have neglected for a long time due to my inability to do it on my own, like changing some light bulbs in high hard to reach places, and moving large pieces of furniture up a flight of stairs! That is something they 100% did not have to do and not part of their job description, but that's simply how sweet and accommodating they are. If you would like to support a small local business, they truly deserve your consideration.

Sarah and Tim arrived with the perfect balance of options: enough to feel curated, not enough to trigger decision fatigue. They respected my budget and guided me toward materials and styles that made sense for my home's "architecturally adventurous" windows. My roman shades turned out beautifully--subtle, sophisticated, and perfectly in harmony with my walls so my art can keep its spotlight. They understood the assignment. Beyond their talent, they're simply great humans: honest, precise, and genuinely pleasant to work with. I recommend Best Blinds wholeheartedly. Give them a try--you'll be thrilled you did.

Visiting the store room was a great way to refine all the amazing options that are available to you and select what you love, as well as ask questions. I was impressed with their guidance and how much they listening to what I was looking for in a final product. Linde was incredible to work with and doesn't pressure you into anything. She is happy to price out any option and then let you drive the process as fast or as slow as you'd like. From there, they came and took measurements and once I purchased the products, we scheduled the install. The install was professional and quick, and I couldn't be more in love with the final outcome. I wish I was a better photographer so I could really showcase the beauty of these! I can't wait to continue to update my blinds throughout the house to this roller. Go visit the Shade Store - you won't regret it!

One of the pull chains broke, and when I called to have it replaced, I was blamed for "pulling the cord to the side" when drawing the shade up or down. I have to pull it to the side in order for the chain to not get caught in the shredded shade edges! Horrendous quality for the money, I feel like such a sucker for purchasing from them.

We researched numerous Austin window designers on Yelp, BBB, and "Best of Austin" sites, etc., and decided to reach out to DECO Window Fashions after reading rave reviews and testimonials by previous customers. DECO owner, James Covian, responded quickly to our email inquiry and arranged an in-store meeting with one of their "best design consultants, Denise McIntyre." Denise was wonderful - she understood exactly what we hoped to achieve, made specific Hunter Douglas model recommendations, and visited our home to display specific design samples from which we made our selection. She completed measurements, customizing the shutter designs to accommodate specific nuances of furniture and room layout, and wrote up an estimate that included special discounts. The whole sales and order process couldn't have been any easier or more satisfying!!! We're looking forward to our installation and updating our Yelp review in the very near future - thanks greatly James AND Denise - DECO rocks!!!
