The local Chinese takeout spot makes better food than here. Scallion pancake was horrible and rubbery. Not to mention, no flavor or fragrance. Dumplings were okay, but the ginger overpowered the pork flavor. Wife had the minced pork noodles. Big mistake. Broth had no flavor. I got the grilled beef rice bowl. The beef wasn't grilled and it was a sad attempt at imitating Japanese Gyudon. I wish they would put more effort to match the flavors of their dishes as their appearance. Really wanted to like this place, because I'm always looking to support Taiwanese restaurants, given how rare they are around here. Unfortunately, after 3 days of horrible digestive upset and revisiting all the food items I had that may have caused it, I narrowed it down to the traditional shaved ice dessert. Sure enough, in reading yelp reviews, I found another that had mentioned an issue with the dessert as well. Other than that, the strawberry fruit tea was way too sugary/syrupy, the Taiwanese pork chop with minced pork over rice lacked traditional Taiwanese flavors I grew up knowing (from experiences in both Taiwan and in the US), and the shumai was the tiny microwavable Japanese version. The California roll and sweet potato roll that my daughter had were fine, but then again, we don't go to a restaurant for just the California roll and sweet potato roll. Sorry to say that I won't be going back, after being really disappointed twice - once over takeout, and the other in person. How could this restaurant get that many stars? We were family of 6...ordering a variety of dishes, from bubble tea, miso soup, sushi to ramen and udon. We left most of the food half eaten. They have a very broad menu that really covers a lot of different dishes from ramen, sushi, to dim sum. Would absolutely come back to eat again. The scallion pancakes were perfectly crispy and had a great crunch with every bite. The juicy pork was as its name suggest quite juicy. The scallion pancake wrap was very tasty as well. My favorite appetizer was the rock shrimp which was cooked to perfection and extra crunchy. It came served in a slice of cucumber, and with a delicious sauce. The bubble tea was more traditional style and I felt that you received a good quantity in each cup. The hibachi and vegetable curry tempura were all good quantities and very tasty. The hibachi came with multiple sauces to dip the meat in. Personally my favorite part was dessert as the fried green tea ice cream is a must try. Ordered a Hawaiian Poke Bowl to go and it was delicious. The tuna and salmon were fresh. The orange sauce that I am assuming is spicy mayo was also pretty good. This place has gone way downhill so quickly. We recently dined-in and so disappointed by the lack of freshness. We ordered boba taro milk tea with tapioca and the tapioca bubbles were actually hard in the center. Perhaps they were stale or not stored properly. I've never had this experience ever with boba tea. My husband ordered a sushi roll with shrimp tempura and the rice was cold and hard and the tempura was actually dry and chewy, as if it was pre-made and drying out in a fridge prior. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with shrimp tempura and the broth was so tasteless. It is not at all the deep umami flavor that one would expect with spicy miso ramen broth -so disappointing at every turn. This was definitely our last visit to this place. I've been meaning to try this place out but haven't been in the area much. Since my husband was passing through, I asked him to pick up a take out order. I ordered 2 poke bowls (one for tuna and one for salmon) and 2 orders of ramen (tempura shrimp since it was a Friday during Lenten season). Oh and one order or bubble tea for him. Last the scallion pancake thing. The poke bowls were so very filling. I felt like it could've used more salmon. My husband had the ramen first and loved it. I had it the next night and I probably should've eaten it first bc it definitely wasn't the same. The scallion pancake was a bit chewy. All in all, the poke bowl was fine as take out but I think we will need to eat there to have it fresh. Went for a very delicious dinner last night to a newly opened DAN ZAI. Tried guacamole with freshly made taro chips-! Our family is Chinese & Taiwanese, so we're always willing to drive over an hour round trip for Chinese food, so we were originally excited to see this place open, and didn't mind paying more for it. Unfortunately, this place is definitely not what you'd call authentic, for ramen or for Taiwanese food. The main problem is an identity issue. They have a name and menu that makes them seem like they carry authentic Taiwanese food, but the execution is more bland and maybe caters to a more westernized crowd. We ordered Chinese Sausage rice (very small pieces despite how inexpensive this item is), salty peppery chicken (dry and not flavorful), and ramen (not flavorful). A few of my asian friends shared their family's dismay too, feeling like they got tricked into visiting the location due to the high yelp ratings. But I think that if they just rename the place to "trendy fusion food" and remove the less successful/misleading menu items that make them seem authentic, they would draw in the right crowds and not upset their more authentic asian neighbors. Sushi was pretty terrible. The rice was over cooked and too vinegary. Some of the fish was palatable but the tuna was rubbery. The juicy pork dumplings weren't juicy and lacked flavor. I guess this is passable for NJ standards, but if you're visiting from elsewhere (like LA) this will not be a good experience. We had a Japanese green milk tea with popping boba, a shaved ice with assorted fruits, red bean and green beans on top, a Taiwanese beef noodle, a Japanese pork ramen. Everything was executed perfectly except the ice could have been shaved smaller and fluffier. Both noodle soup were rich in flavoe but not overwhelming, subtle and flavorful!! Wow... let me just start by saying that. I was a little nervous to get out of my "hibachi comfort zone" and expand my horizons, but boy am I glad I did! The restaurant itself is very cute and tastefully done! The decor and overall layout is very appeasing and simple, yet unique. It was very busy when I came but was seated very quickly. They gave me some warm hand cleansing towels and followed the typical layout of asking for drinks, appetizers, dinner, ect. Drinks: I had the black milk tea - it was pretty good but I'm also very picky when it comes to my boba tastes. Another member of my party got the Mango tea and it was FANTASTIC, a little sweet for my tastes but extremely refreshing. Apps: I then ordered the house salad, it was a decent size and filled almost to the top. The gave me a saucer full of ginger dressing and a spoon : which I thought was extremely considerate since many people are picky about the amount of dressing. Dinner: I ordered the chicken fried rice hibachi. (Here you have to pick between rice and noodles - which is pretty standard for most places) The chicken was DELICIOUS and the overall platter was exquisitely presented. A felt they were a tiny bit short handed with the rice but then again I'm a rice fiend ;) - I proceeded to ask for another side of rice, which was no problem and only cost $3 more (it was a decent amount as well). It comes with cooked vegetables (broccoli and what I believe was cauliflower) and an array of sauces. Overall, the service was a little slow but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was slammed. I would rate this place 100 stars if I could, the dinner was fantastic, staff was extremely friendly (a staff member even came up to my table and had brief conversation making sure our experience was to our satisfaction and thanked us), and everything was very clean and well presented!! Wow, where do I even start? I had the pleasure of going here during their soft opening week and I was not disappointed. Went here around lunch time and was surprised at how full it was, but once I ate the food I was not surprised by how busy they were. Started off with the green salad. Their ginger dressing isn't the bright orange you get everywhere else but boy was it good. Then had the canton style shrimp dumplings and they were everything I enjoy in a dumpling and more. It was actually pieces of shrimp, not shrimp putty. For my entree I had the Japanese shrimp tempura ramen, with a spicy miso base. The shrimp tempura came on the side and it was a proper order of tempura, 3 shrimp and 3 veggies with a dipping sauce on the side. The spicy miso broth was to die for and had the right amount of spice. The passion fruit bubble tea was also amazing and not too sweet. We sat down and the waitress brought us some wet napkins (packaged ones) and water. After about 10 minutes we each put in our orders. My sister or the shumai, Korean ramen and sushi. I ordered the kani salad, Godzilla roll and the matsu roll, and my friend ordered California roll with a side of white rice. Everything was absolutely delicious and came out to us one at a time. Price is pretty good for just about everything except the kani salad. Def not worth $8. Everywhere else that I order that salad is at least $5-$6. We came here for my birthday today. Wonderful experience. The food, decor, and service was superb! I had the Japanese style Ramen with seafood in the spicy miso base-Absolutely delicious! I cannot emphasize enough how pristine this restaurant is. I have never in my life seen a more polished, clean restaurant. The bathrooms were also so clean it was a joy to behold. About the bathrooms, the sinks were gorgeous! We went with a large party one Saturday afternoon and were accommodated immediately by the warmest and friendliest staff and the owner. Each place setting was equipped with a gorgeous pair of chopsticks and each child's setting had practice chopsticks. So cute and practical! The menu featured in array of dishes including bubble tea's, sushi and poke bowls, soup noodle bowls, dim sum, dry noodle bowls, hibachi, and giant Ramen bowls with fresh Ramen made in house. I teared up a little at how delicious it was! Everyone of us continually praised the food as we were eating a wide variety of everything from the menu. The kids, who are not new to this sort of dining, were still awed by some of the food. The sushi rolls were extra large with gorgeous roe, the scallion pancake was the second best kind I've ever had, the buns and bowls were absolutely scrumptious!
