Danawa was a great pocha to check out in NorCal! It was our last night in Northern California and we wanted to embrace our culture so we decided to check out Danawa in Santa Clara! This place is a nice little pocha in the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara area and they have a lot of different pocha foods. We ordered: - Soy Garlic Chicken - Sea Snail Salad - Boodae Jjigae - Gizzards The soy garlic chicken was really good. I am a stickler about Korean Fried Chicken but this was was off the charts! It was hot, crispy and so flavorful! The gizzards were also really good. It can be a hit or miss depending on where you get it from but the gizzards here were stir fried just right for that ideal perfect flavor. The sea snail salad was really good too! It wasn't as strong as how other pochas do their sea snail salad so it was interesting but I did like the flavor. The boodae jjigae was also really good -- had a lot of depth in the flavor of the broth. Overall -- we had a great time. Great food, great company, great drinks and great vibes. This was a great find in my book. Great food, Great drinks, and great ambiance. What more can you ask for? Parking: They have a parking lot out front, so there is plenty of free parking. Food: Food was pretty solid. Their fried chicken is a little bit too greasy for my tasting but still pretty flavorful. I would highly suggest trying their tofu soup and fried glass noodles. The fried glass noodles were personally my favorite dish we got. Drinks: They have exciting flavors of cocktail soju. We tried the Guava soju, but they also have unique ones like pineapple, apricot, and grapefruit. It's also pretty decently priced for what you get. Service: Service is pretty decent. Came her after a concert and the dim pub lighting was nice! Open late and overall chill vibes. Music will be playing, but honestly was a little much after a very fun concert so if you're looking for medium to low quiet music, something to keep in mind. Got their corn cheese and fish soup! Nice things to have after singing so loud haha. The corn cheese was fine. Have had way better and their's just tasted kind of eh. Canned corn can be very good still, but theirs tasted even more canned if you catch my drift. The fish soup was delicious though! Great for my throat and all the fish was so yummy! This is a cool dinner/late night spot to go with friends. It's located in a small corner of a large plaza so it could be easy to miss. My friends and I all got the soft tofu soup. I got seafood version. Soft tofu soup here is different from other places because 1) they don't ask you what spice level you want, but I didn't mind because I liked their default spice level and 2) they don't give you eggs to break into the soup. The taste was pretty good, but average. There was a decent amount of seafood in my soup and it came with a bowl of rice. Nothing mind-blowing, but the flavor was good and it was a warm and filling meal. I wish we had some Korean side dishes to go with the meal. I'll say that the prices here are pretty high, even for appetizers. I recommend sharing dishes with friends if you want to order multiple items. Service was great. I love this place especially because they open later than a lot of places so if I get out of an event later at night I know Danawa will be open! I always get their Supreme Chicken Wings and French Fries with Truffle Oil (with extra salt)! Those two are always my must get but I have also tried their Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice which is also really good but usually too much food if I get along with the wings and fries. Their service is always great and food comes out in a timely manner. What's different about this place is they have little door bell buttons to ring if you need their service and they always come right after you ring it. The setting of the restaurant is a bit dark but each table has their own light and I always love the Korean music they play! 10/10 one of my favorite places to eat at! read more

We made a reservation day of for a group of 9 on a Saturday night and they were able to accommodate us! The restaurant itself had pretty dim lights and had music videos playing which gave it a clubbing type vibe! They had the soju cocktail deal and my table got yogurt, peach, and strawberry! I would recommend the strawberry 100%, and the yogurt tasted like yalkult! We ordered tons of food but I think the winners for me were Kimchi Pork Belly Fried Rice, chicken wings with sauce on the side, Army Stew, and seafood pancake! The cheese corn didn't have any sugar in it which gave it no flavor, literally just tasted like cheese and corn. I would definitely come back here and try more dishes! It was my first time trying this place and it's perfect if you're really hungry late night! My group and I ordered 10 dishes overall but I didn't get pictures of each one. The food was really good and the service was good as well. My favorite things that we ordered were: truffle fries, sausage and rice cake skewer, cheese corn, spicy Korean wings, and the spam kimchi fried rice. I came here as a party of five on a Sunday night around 11:30 pm and we were seated immediately since the place was pretty empty at that hour. My friends and I had just come back from a concert and were all starving and this was one of the few places open so we stopped by. We ordered the glass noodle kimari/gimmari, the sausage/rice cake skewers, kimchi fried rice, bulgogi, spicy rice cakes and regular fried chicken. The food came out in a timely manner, the appetizers were first of course. I didn't try the glass noodle seaweed dish but the sausage/rice cake skewers were really good; a bit pricey in my opinion but tasty nonetheless. Out of the other dishes, I only ate the kimchi fried rice and fried chicken, both of which were really good. The fried rice was full of flavor and was a decent portion for the price and the chicken was so crisp and not dry at all. Our total came to be around $135 including tip which isn't too bad I don't think, and considering how late it was I'm just grateful they were open. We were the last ones to leave out of the 3-4 parties that were there and the service was really nice which I'm appreciative of considering how late it was (~1:00 am by the time we left). Based on the other reviews, I think the service fluctuates depending on the day or time because our service was good but then again there was almost no one in the place at that time. Besides that, I also just really like the vibe of the place. They played k-rnb/k-pop throughout the time we were there and the lights were dimmed which adds to the chill ambiance. Favorite spot for Korean appetizers & snacks!! I've tried a few around Ktown in Santa Clara and this one is the best. -Kimchi fried rice is best one I've had yet. It's actually spicy which I prefer & so flavorful - Spicy chicken wings; typically not a huge KFC person but this one was goood. This is a fun place to get late night Korean food and drinks. It's dark, they play loud music, and kpop music videos playing all night. It feels sketchy when you walk in but that's the appeal/fun aspect of it. There's a full bar and all of the food we ordered was good/came in large portions! My favorite was the seafood pancake and spicy KFC (korean fried chicken). It was my first time coming here and with about 20 people - they advertise that they're well equipped for large groups! Our complaint is that we found it difficult to get service, more menus, have enough plates, silverware, napkins, glasses, etc for our tables. I don't know if I'd come back here. Went here with my husband and brother in law for a late night dinner and we weren't attended to properly. We were seated in such a dimly lit area, the servers could care less what we needed and rarely checked on us. The ARMY stew was soooo salty. The corn cheese wasn't even hot, you can tell they grabbed canned sweet corn, dumped it on the skillet and threw cheese on there and cheese didn't even melt all the way. The jjangmyeon is legit the one you buy from the store. The instant one. The server even warned us. I mean seriously why bother making food if everything is just store bought and instant? I decided to eat here on a Wednesday since Pocha K was closed, and ordered 1 plate of tteokbokki and 1 bottle of soju. The tteokbokki with noodles was $23, and it only came with 12 pieces of rice cake. Super small portion of rice cake, we ate the entire plate in 10 minutes and were still hungry but it wasn't worth buying another plate. Instead we wanted to go check out another restaurant after. I stayed for 30 more minutes to finish the soju, then paid the bill. When we were leaving, our server chased us to the door as if we hadn't paid for our food. She exclaimed, "excuse me, wait!" as if we were dine and dashing and then told us that tip was not included in the bill and asked if I wanted to check a gratuity box for 15%, 18%, or 20%. I declined because she did not check on us once during my entire stay, and I had to flag her down to ask for the check. I felt scammed for the portion and there wasn't any service provided to tip her for, other than getting 1 bottle for us. I got a sudden craving at 11pm on a Saturday after watching Street Food on Netflix (I know, that was self imposed). The poppin' Korean restaurants in Santa Clara that're open past midnight are my saviors on a more than regular basis than I'd like to admit. Reason for the "meh" rating: - It was so loud, I couldn't hear myself think - The sundubu (soft tofu soup) tasted watered down (I assume from the vegetables). There were also no options for types of sundubu (typically you'd find 2-3 variations at restaurants including seafood, beef, pork, etc.) - The ONLY banchan item served was pickled radish. No cucumbers, jap chae, potatoes, or any of the usual goods - The servers passed our table 3 times before finally getting to our check Reasons for liking this place: - The korean spicy chicken was delicious - The tteok-bokki (spicy rice cakes) was tasty and not too spicy (though I don't have much to compare this to, it was my first time having this dish) If you're looking to get your money's worth in terms of quantity of the entrees and banchan, skip over this place :-) read more

I figured this place closes later (2am) that we could swing by for a try. We walked in and was seated immediately. They have some tables and some covered hut like tables. The ambiance was quite nice. There were a lot of Koreans there - so you can say it's quite authentic. Plenty of parking outside in the parking lot. We ordered a few things - 2 soju (one mango and one yogurt), gyoza (which they call potsticker fries), kimchi fried rice, and army stew. Overall, portions were somewhat small. Given that we are paying $32 bucks for the army stew, it would be bigger. It was probably one of the smaller sizes I've seen in the Bay area. We had 5 people, each took half a bowl and it was gone. The kimchi fried rice was not bad, and the gyozas were okay. My least favorite was the soju that they served. It was too carbonated, and I didn't like that. Most places don't use sparking soda or sprite as a base. Overall, I was not a fan. This place was pretty average to me. Besides the easy parking, quick seating, there's not much that would motivate me to return. Given that there's a lot of other Korean restaurants in the city and around, this probably isn't my number one option. Overall 3/5. read more

Atmosphere of this place is cool if you're with a group.. good for drinking and eating. If you're with a small party or just with another person, I would probably go elsewhere. The food is a bit overpriced, the only redeeming factor was the ambiance was chill for a kick back dinner. Portions of the kimchi fried rice barely cut it for just 2 people. We also ordered the fried chicken wings, this was good and decent size. We couldn't finish it and had to box the rest to go. The bill was about $35 after tax/tip a person for a shared pitcher of soju, plate of kimchi rice and chicken wings. I just don't think that the price matched the quality/quantity of the food. Everything was decent, but if it's gonna be expensive, I expect the food to be amazing. I was also super confused by the dish they give in the beginning.. instead of side dishes that normal korean places give.. they gave a couple slices of cut up cucumbers and baby carrots and a dallop of dipping sauce. The place is tucked away in the corner but glad I went I ordered the sausage and rice cakes which was my favorite.
