I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel others should know. My friend and I arrived around 5:00 PM when the restaurant was completely empty. We asked if we could sit at a table toward the back--a table my friend had enjoyed during previous visits--but were told very firmly that it was reserved and absolutely unavailable. We respected that decision. What was frustrating was watching that same table remain empty for the next five hours. Around 10:00 PM, it was finally occupied by just two people, despite the restaurant having plenty of other available seating throughout the evening. The most disappointing part happened around 11:00 PM. Our waitress came over and began telling us that there was a line outside and people were waiting to be seated. She then raised her voice at us, even though we had been actively ordering the entire night. We had purchased multiple meals and bottles, had just ordered another bottle, and hadn't even finished our food or drinks. We weren't simply occupying a table without spending money--we were paying customers enjoying dinner and catching up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What made the situation even more confusing was that there were numerous empty tables throughout the restaurant. I even recorded a video of the dining room because I couldn't believe we were being pressured to leave while so many tables sat vacant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I only wish I had recorded the interaction with the waitress, because I was genuinely shocked by how she spoke to us. I want to start off by saying that I love the food here, every time I come back and order different things, it always hits the spot. However, when I went recently, the service was absolutely horrible. I waited around 10-15 minutes before being acknowledged to just be seated which I thought was outrageous because there were only 3 tables at the moment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once they seated me, they seated my nieces and I right next to the door when there were many tables still open inside the store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I understand that there were adults drinking within the store however this was one of the coldest days this winter and having kids right next to the door was a little irritating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Putting that aside, after I was seated, I did have to wait for one more person at my table so it was okay that I was never approached for my order to be taken (even though I was ready). But once the last person from my party arrived, we still waited a decent 20-25 minutes before our server asked us if we were ready to order! My sister and I were even already discussing leaving and trying other options for dinner because we saw the server only attending to the other tables or just on her phone. I understand being understaffed and I understand being busy but nothing of that matter was what was causing this lack of attentiveness. Overall, the service was absolutely not what it use to be. I was at this pretty far away restaurant (at least from my normal neighborhood) with a group a while ago as most of the people had never had pocha/포차 style food before. The lighting was dim as expected for a bar/gastropub and the woman serving us was friendly dealing with our group as best as she could. I presume the majority of people here are to drink and have anju but I was the only drinker of the night having a Terra which is a light lager. There was a large one and a smaller one and I had a large which worked with the food and I think it was around $10 or so. The first thing that arrived was the Sausage & Rice Cake Skewer in Sweet Spicy Sauce/So-tteok So-tteok/소떡소떡 which is $7 for 2 pieces. I've had this prior and it was good here. The rice cakes/tteok had a good texture with a bit of a crisp which was nice with the slightly sweet sausage. The sauce had a slight spiciness to them and paired nicely as always. The Fried Jokbal/족발/Pig Feet With Scallion Salad for $18 was very good. Said jokbal had a good mix of fat to meat with a good crunch on the outside and there were plenty of pieces to share. The scallion salad had I believe some gochujang on it or something similar. Favorite of the smaller plates was the Stir-fried Beef Belly/Chadolbagi/차돌박이 With Bean Sprouts for $22. The meat was very tender and flavorful with the sprouts cooked down well. There was also some raw vegetables on top covered with some dried chili seeds which added a nice spice and pop. I would recommend this also. The Rose Sauce Spicy Rice Cakes/Rosé Tteokbokki/로제 떡볶이 for $16 which is also available for $2 more with cheese was pretty tasty. It had a mildly creamy sauce, bacon & some pieces of Gimmari/김말이 fried seaweed rolls which was a nice touch. The rice cakes had a pretty good texture though I would have preferred it a bit spicier but I expected the slightly mild sauce due to the rosé variety. This was fine with a pretty good sized portion. The Kimchi Fried Rice/Kimchi-bokkeumbap/김치볶음밥 With Egg & Cheese In Sizzling Plate for $15 was a bit below average. The kimchi flavor wasn't nearly as strong as I would have liked with it being mostly eggy and I found that it was cooked better at some other spots. I have preferred versions much more at many other Korean spots even in Manhattan's KTown like Five Senses for instance among others. The Kimchi Pancake/Kimchijeon/김치전 for $13 was below average outside of the price point (at least compared to Manhattan Koreatown but that is probably different in Murray Hill.) The kimchi flavor like in the fried rice was a bit muted and it didn't have as much of a crisp I like at the ends. I wouldn't recommend it much. While I could not have it due to a severe cephalopod allergy, the rest of the people disliked the Spicy Stir-Fried Octopus/Nakji-Bokkeum/낙지볶음 for $22. I tried a bit of the sauce which was nice and spicy but apparently the octopus itself was very chewy (it did look overcooked.) Our final plate was from their specialties which was the Pork Baby Back Ribs in Sweet Spicy Sauce Served With Udon and Mozzarella/Maeun Dwaeji Galbijjim/돼지등갈비 철판 for $45. As per the price, the plate was massive with several large very tender pork ribs which had a nice mix of sweetness and spiciness though I do wish they were a little bit spicier though if I recall correctly, someone had asked him to tone it down a bit. This came with more gimmari as well and my favorite part was when the sauce and meat juices had cooked down and burnt slightly as it added a nice touch. If we didn't get the bokkeumbap before, I likely would have preferred the fried rice with the rest of this instead. This was a pretty good though inconsistent Korean meal. Oddly, the kimchi based dishes were the weakest thing here and stuff in general felt a bit lighter than most pocha I have been to. We have a couple tasty dishes and I might go back but it is more likely that if I go to this far off neighborhood again, I would go somewhere else instead. read more

This place is probably the worst place I've ever been to on Northern Blvd in recent memory. We came in on a Saturday at 7:30PM and it was completely empty (for good reason as it turns out) Food was absolutely mediocre -- I ordered the rose tteokbokki which costs $16 with a $2 addition for cheese. The price is above average for tteobokki in the area which caps out at $15 including cheese. However, for the price you'd accept great taste! The rice cakes were rubbery and tasted like the pre packed ones. Our table also had an order of Bbudae Jjigae. Service was also not the best. Our table had a person who couldn't eat spice so we tripled confirmed for the soup to be mild. When it came it was spicier than we've ever had it and when we spoke to the staff they told us "that's how it comes" which is definitely not true. We asked if they could give us another one or something else and he took it away. 5 mins later he comes back with the same soup but clearly just with water added in. Not to mention we noticed the staff looking and whispering. Ambiance was okay. Typical pocha place. Nothing special enough for the increased cost and mid service. TLDR: Probably my goto Korean "pocha" spot. Drinks are reasonably priced, super clean for a gastropub and the food is on point. Definitely grab the loaded kimchi fried rice and the army stew is great. Spicy rose rice cakes are also solid. Dangol is a small shop on Northern right where Prince 2 used to be. It's super clean inside, good place to grab some tasty food and drinks with friends. I've tried a lot of the different dishes but definitely my favorites would be the kimchi fried rice with the egg/cheese ring. It's smoky, it's got the right amount of char, it's slightly spicy and the kind of dish you just want to shovel into your mouth. The spicy rose tteokbokki is also great. Creamy, a bit spicy and lots of flavor. The rice cakes are thinner, there's bacon, fish cake, it's probably one of the best iterations of this dish in Flushing. There's a good amount of seating and I think it's definitely under-recognized since there were so many open tables. Service was good and food came out fairly quick. Very buttery, very cheesy, very yummy. - Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice: such a big portion!! It was comfort food. - Boodae Jjigae (Army Stew): we got the small one but the big one comes to the table on a burner to be cooked at the table. This small one still had all the fixin's - ramen, spam, etc. Not too spicy and good flavor. - Fried Jokbal: loved this. It came on a hot plate so it kept it nice and hot. It was fried so it had a lovely crunchy exterior but the batter wasn't thick at all. I also loved how gelatinous it was. It came with a sauce that was a little sour but helped to cut the oils. - Roasted Pork Belly: also loved this. Their meat dishes are done really well and the quality of the meats were great too. So amazing to have a good pocha in Flushing! The mood is perfect with the dim lighting and neon signs. The place is packed with a young crowd on Fridays and Saturday nights and I definitely know why. There's plenty of soju and beer options and they're fairly priced. They have happy hour every day 3-7pm with half priced drinks. Despite being packed, they do a great job with social distancing using dividers and leaving space between tables. As soon as we were seated, we were offered a small dish of rice crackers as a snack. I love being able to eat something while waiting for my food. Even though this is a bar, you cannot sleep on the food! They offer a lot of classics, as well as some other speciality dishes and everything is delicious! I love that they have shareable portions that's great for big groups. You absolutely cannot miss out on ordering their baby octopus and spicy squid platter. It's served on a huge dish, warmed up on a burner. The portion size is insane and it's so tasty! I came with 3 other people and we barely put a dent in it. The pork belly pieces were juicy and tender and the octopus was nice and soft There was a generous helping of udon as well as cheese and let's face it, cheese makes everything better! This dish is pretty spicy so make sure to order something to balance out the spice. My other favorite from here is the rose ttebbokki. It's a lot milder in spice compared to traditional ttebbokki so I actually prefer it. It has a sweeter and creamier flavor. It's a tomato base but it wasn't too overpowering. The actual pieces of rice cake were so delicious - very chewy and bouncy. Also if you're not ordering it with cheese, you're doing something wrong. Service was fantastic! Although we didn't get any drinks, my boyfriend and I still enjoyed their cheese&egg bacon kimchi fried rice, budae jjigae, & tonkatsu. The fried rice was perhaps our favorite - it comes on a sizzling hot plate and is really well seasoned. The egg starts to stick really quickly, so we had to mix it up! The budae jjigae, while good, was definitely a bit on the thicker & saltier side, even when paired with rice. It would be really good if it was thinned out a bit with some stock, so we took it home as part of our leftovers. Great place that has lunch specials, friendly staff, and delicious food! The lunch specials are affordable despite korean food being on the expensive side usually. My rose spaghetti was 9ish dollars +2 dollars for bacon. I also got the rose tteokboki. I like the texture of the tteokboki more so instead of getting two rose dishes, i'd recommend only getting one. It can be too heavy when you order two creamy dishes that have the same flavor. The tteokboki had fish cake in it as well. It wasn't on the lunch special menu so the price was around $15 +$1.50 for cheese on top. The side dishes included salad, macaroni salad, and kimchi. The waitress was super nice even telling us we can always ask for more- it's complementary. The kimchi pancake was already pretty good. I loved the texture of the rice cake and sausage skewer. The rice cake had a bit of a crunch to it, distinguishing itself from the rose rice cake. There were boards to separate each party. I just went here less than two hours before writing this review so this one is fresh. Dangol is an amazingly good Korean restaurant with a beautiful interior and service that really tried despite a bit of a language barrier. My friends and I ordered the spicy pig feet with cheese($2 more), baby squid and pork belly, stir fried udon noodles with pollock roe, and korean sausage with veggies in a sweet sauce. All of these dishes were excellent and satisfying, the portion sizes felt great for three people and we each left full happy and satisfied. If the korean sausage is too sweet for you consider adding it into the baby squid and pork belly that was delicious. I'd say every dish was great enough to stand on its own and large enough to be considered a meal but if I had to pick a favorite it was probably the pig feet, they were like giant balls of flavor and each bite was perfect. I will be back, I will absolutely try more menu items but for now I look forward to it and suggest you come here as well and try it for yourself. read more

I came here with my family and relatives, not knowing the vibes or atmosphere. To be honest, it was kinda awkward due to the loud rap music and pub-like setting...not ideal for a family dinner. BUT my goodness the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. For appetizers, we got the takoyaki, beef tataki, kimchi pancake, fried squid legs, and fresh Korean oysters. The takoyaki was freshly made with a crispy exterior, fried perfectly, and a bouncy piece of octopus inside. They also had nice drizzles of kewpie mayo and takoyaki sauce to balance out the sweet and savory components. The beef tataki flavors were a bit underwhelming in my opinion, but very soft and tender meat. Kimchi pancake was fried nicely and not overly oily at all. The aromas from the kimchi, onions, and scallions complemented each other well. The fried squid legs took me by surprise--not only fried perfectly but also seasoned very well. The only thing I would say is the batter would be a bit thinner but nothing too extreme. Lastly, the raw oysters were delectable: plump, fresh, juicy. They were huge and totally worth the price. For the entrées, my favorite was the large Baby Octopus and Pork Belly with Cheese casserole and rosé tteokbokki. The casserole included chewy udon noodles, bouncy baby octopus, juicy pork belly, crispy ginmari, and cheese to top it all off. It was a bit spicy for me, but the cheese definitely helped balanced it off. The rosé tteokbokki was out of this world. Perfect spice level for me, super creamy, and perfectly chewy rice cakes. I would totally come back again just for this dish! Highly recommend! We also got a seafood soup that balanced out a lot of the heaviness and richness from all the other dishes. Super comforting especially in the cold winter months. The roasted pork belly and spicy pig feet were probably my least favorites among all the dishes because they were both a bit too fatty, in my opinion, in which the meat to fat ratio was a bit on the fattier side. Overall, HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend coming here! While I wouldn't recommend bringing kids here due to the atmosphere, it would be a great time to come here with friends! That said, I've tried the boodae jjigae (a staple), rose ddubokki (which I thought my friends were hyping up but it lived up to the hype and then some), clam? stew, fries, pork ribs w/ cheese, pigs feet, etc. Cant wait to try more! My bf and I got the Assorted seafood small casserole with beef brisket which was $29. The beef brisket was an additional $7. This was mediocre. We actually got the non spicy one (number 50) but it ended up having a lot of jalapeños, so it was still spicy! There were 3 shrimps and 4 mussels- one of the mussels never opened and we didn't want to claw it open. The rest of it was just squid. I was hoping for a little more variety. Come with me to Dangol, a korean pocha in Flushing! My Korean is far from good, so I will just mention the menu items in english. This place is the perfect spot to hang out with friends and drink. Their food is also amazing and pairs perfectly with drinks. We got the Stir Fried Beef Belly with Bean Sprouts which was addicting, the Sausage & Rice Cake Skewers which were sweet and spicy, the Army Stew Casserole which was so warm and comforting, the Beef Tartare which had an incredible flavor, and the Okinomoyaki. We also got the Pork Belly with Scallion Salad, the Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice with egg, the Pork Cutlet, and the Pork Baby Back Ribs with udon and mozzarella cheese which was obviously the star of the show. Definitely come with a bunch of friends because their portions are pretty big. The ribs platter was massive and the combination of ribs, noodles, and cheese was absolutely perfect. Just look at all the cheese and noodle pulls from all of these dishes. I honestly can't choose what my favorite dish was, because everything was so delicious. Order a bunch of drinks and food, and play some games with your friends. They even have a photo booth where you can take pictures with your friends to document your fun night. I've come here a few times on a Sunday night when I am arriving home late but craving some food. This place is just about the only place open near midnight with decent prices for food. This is a drinking place/bar for sure. But you don't have to order drinks to eat in. I was kind of worried when I first walked in, and was concerned if the food would be good. I was pleasantly surprised when the food came out. The portion was smaller than I thought it would be at first but with a few friends and sharing food options, I am not complaining with the ability to try different options for a late night snack. The taste is amazing!! Such a shock but really glad I tried this place out. Everything tastes good. I didn't get a photo but we have tried the cutlet as well which was also good! The rose spicy rice cake (tteokbokki) is really good too! Definitely recommend! I haven't had anything I didn't like from this place and would definitely tel you to give it a try. This restaurant is a good place for groups to gather for good drinks and food. There was Kpop playing in the background. With the noise level of the crowd and the music, it can get busy and loud but it'll be a good time. I came as a party of 2 and tried three items on their menu. The food came fairly quick. Every table gets a complimentary snack for the table. The korean snack was flavorless crunchy tube shaped. Most people who come order alcoholic drinks and soju cups are at every table with that assumption. When arriving, we were not greeted immediately and no one checked our vaccination cards. The food was good and tasted similar to other Korean restaurants in the area. There's nothing that special to this place but I could see its potential. This is a cute little Korean comfort food spot - dig the Korean music playing in the background and I have a few favorite dishes. The spicy pork is spicyyyyy but it clears up your sinuses and it's good to have in colder weather. I don't love mussels but that soup I can have all day! I also like the sausage & tteokbokki skewers. Fried oysters are not too shabby either & as always, I like the Korean style omelette. There are still a lot of things I haven't tried on the menu but I don't eat much seafood either & there's a good amount of it. I would recommend coming here & I'll be back! Wish they had more spots like this left in flushing. Even if you don't order a lot of food, it's a cool place to grab a few sojus & catch up. We came here for late night eats on a Saturday night. The place isn't very big but there were tables available upon our arrival. (Last then we tried coming here at 1am, it was a 40 minute wait) They have a photo booth which was pretty cute. The service was good and the waitress repeated our orders for accuracy. I absolutely loved the mussel soup- it was the broth that tasted very delicious! The waitress recommended the pulled dough option (oppose to ramen or udon noodles) which was a great choice! I drank the entire soup. I also got kimchi pancakes were pretty good- I wish they made it crispier. I have had better kimchi pancakes but I would eat theirs again too. Kimchi fried rice: 3.5/5, average Army stew: 4/5 Spicy rice cake: 3/5 Cheesy corn: 4/5 Shrimp rose pink spaghetti: 4.5/5 very creamy Baby Octopus, pork belly, cheese with udon: 3/5. SPICY, don't get if you can't take spicy. There's also veggies, 6 pieces seaweed rolls. Kimchi pancake: 3.5/5 Creamy udon: 4.5/5 The servers are really nice, always smiling when we make eye contacts. The restaurant is good to have few drinks with friends.
