We decided to give Daniel's restaurant a try after an afternoon of strawberry picking. We enjoyed our meal; everything was delicious. I loved the flavor of rosemary in the complimentary bread. The Caesar salad was perfect; the dressing tasted homemade. The soup was incredible with lots of veggies and crab pieces. The penne alla casa was so delicious and creamy! Meh... I was a bit disappointed, after hearing this place was soooo good, and reading many good reviews. It's quite dated (think 90s or 2000s business casual), and the hosts need more training... just awkward and unsure of how to handle themselves. The food itself was good. I had the signature pasta dish (with spinach and sun dried tomatoes). My husband had the seafood pasta, he chose the mild to be sure it wouldn't be too spicy. But it had NO spice at all. He said he'd get the medium spice level if he were to order it again. Oh, and our bottle of Chardonnay was room temp. I enjoyed eating at Daniels! When we arrived at restaurant we were quoted a 45 minute wait. But by 6:30 but were sat by 6:50. Brianna our server was wonderful and she did an amazing job! Had not been here in many years. Came with a group. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I ordered veal picatta , which i had long craved ! Pasta, al dente, which most people like. Sauce, was absolutely wonderful! Veal slices, sadly overcooked. But since we were a large group, it could've been because my plate was sitting, waiting to be served. Ambience is exactly the same, wish they could give themselves a facelift. But still pleasant. Went here one night for a friend's birthday dinner. I'd never heard of it and would never have stopped by it in passing, as it doesn't look crazy just driving by it on the road. But WOW were we surprised! We all ordered a martini given it was Martini Monday, I had the Godiva chocolate which was quite dense. For apps we had the calamari which was phenomenal. My main course was the lobster ravioli with a side of italian sausage, which was AMAZINGGG. Our server, Troy (I think?), was so nice and knowledgeable about the menu. MAKE SURE TO GET A RESERVATION BEFORE YOU GO! I've tried going twice before and wasn't able to make a reservation either time but after finally getting a table I finally understand why. The wine selection here is absolutely insane and amazing. We were quite literally drooling over the food and using the bread to soak up any leftover sauce from the appetizer mussels. I was in Apex for a movie and had a craving for Italian food and saw this place want too far off our path. The restaurant was very cute. I felt the Italian vibe right away. It's a fun kind of immersive look. The service was very good as well. Our server offered suggestions and was just overall very friendly. We came for lunch on a Sunday so service was fast and there wasn't that many people there. Now to the food. This is where I have mixed reviews, some of the food was just very bland, ie the bread and the mozzarella sticks. But other things were really good. The pasta and the pizzeles. The pasta which I didn't get a picture of because I was so busy stuffing my face was one of the best pastas I've ever tasted. It was the mushroom chicken Marsala penne pasta. It was so full of flavor. I can see why some of the reviews say the food was meh but I also think there are some hidden gems here as well. Not only do I live in Apex, and frequent the various restaurants and pubs in the region, but I actually ran the Chamber of Commerce here for a couple of years, so I was always very attuned to the entire business community. I would highly recommend Daniels! I've been there multiple times into my kids and I became a tradition to go there for my birthday. The food is always good. The service is always excellent. The prices are reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber, and I have to say, highly recommended! If you have not tried their desserts, you are missing out. read more

I have eaten in Daniel's restaurant a few times and ordered takeout/catering a few times over the last couple of years. They have always been consistent with their food and service - something that speaks well for any restaurant. My favorite dishes I have tried over this time are the fried calamari appetizer and the penne alla casa with pancetta meal. The calamari is crisp on the outside and not greasy, while the inside is tender. The penne alla casa has a great sauce and flavor and the pasta is always cooked perfectly. I also have enjoyed the chicken marsala a few times. The chicken is tender, with a flavorful sauce and a ton of mushrooms! Personally, I don't *love* their red sauce. It is a chunky marinara sauce and it's not a texture or flavor I prefer. To each their own :-) read more

Went looking for a place to eat near my mother-in-law's new apartment and came across Daniel's. Menu looked good and I hadn't had Italian for my bday yet. All I can say is FABULOUS! Scott too wonderful care of us, was personable and made good recommendations. I have never seen a Lasagna so big! The Southwest Ravioli sounded interesting and was really good. Scott recommended blackened chicken which set it off and I ask for mozzarella on top. The bay scallop special was even good the second time around. We used to love Daniel's. It was our #1 go-to Italian place for more than 20 years. They're not an inexpensive place. But worth it b/c it had great food and we loved that it was locally owned. We're usually too busy to dine in and it's always packed so we typically opt for take-out. Not sure what's happened to their take-out area. Gone straight downhill and is terribly under staffed. The last 3 take-out orders have been terrible, wrong and short food. Last night we ordered a simple pepperoni pizza, salad and dessert. The crust of the pizza was BLACK (burnt!) on the bottom, singe burned crust around the edges, the pepperoni wasn't cooked, lacked cheese and sauce. We asked for 'light garlic'. It was piled on there so heavy! Completely unable to eat. The salad lacked its typical toppings. $28 for a horrible experience. And, we waited 40 MINUTES for it and it still wasn't ready. Kitchen staff could plainly see it wasn't a good pizza yet shoved it in the box and handed it to us anyway. Our mistake - other than giving them another try - was not opening that box. But, if we had, who would want to wait another 40 minutes at 7pm in the evening for another one? The other two take out meals were the blackened shrimp caesar salad. How hard is that, right? The first one had no seasoning, no cheese and no dressing. The second order had seasoning but wasn't cooked. The shrimp was still raw. I cook with shrimp all the time. I had to finish cooking them. The dessert I ordered with one salad, looked like they scraped whatever 'leavings' were left and put it in the to-go box. Those meals were ordered during the day - when there was no crowd, a fairly empty parking lot and no one else waiting for take-out. Yet, I still waited about 40 minutes for the salads, that were so poorly prepared and given to me anyway. The romaine on one was so wet, water poured out of the pan, which had soaked the croutons. Who are they employing in that part of the restaurant to yield such fail rates on such basic, simple orders? So, Daniel's.....3 strikes and you're out for take out. I will say, they've never delivered such inedible, incomplete or uncooked meals to the table if you're dining inside. I don't think the wait staff would permit it b/c their tip is going to be affected!! Next time (if there is one), I'll go in order, then ask for it all to be boxed up. Three words - Refund & Be Better! We have a lot of choices. It would be a shame to watch this cherished, local place suffer the fate of so many others. read more

I went for lunch and had the spaghetti with meat sauce. It was very good, and the bread was excellent ! My waitress was quite attentive without hovering. She answered my questions and made suggestions about various items. I was torn between 2 items and decided to get my 2nd choice ( a sub) to go . It arrived at the table when I got the bill . Let's start off with this: it's definitely not your traditional Italian restaurant experience, so temper your expectations. Some of the pros: the restaurant was large with ample seating (and more than a few customers on this weekday evening), service was good, and portions were well worth the price. Now onto the cons: the pizza crust was definitely not authentic, and the complimentary garlic bread was made of a similar spongy bread texture. I probably wouldn't order the pizza again, but we did like the lasagna with meat sauce (probably four stars itself) and the tiramisu was also a generous slice and tasty, albeit not that authentic either. Rather than view this place in a traditional Italian light, one may appreciate it more as American Italian (i.e. Olive Garden) with generous portions as a family restaurant. read more

Dressing seemed to have a little too much mayonise. For the main course we had the chicken Parmigiano and the social of the night - boulenaise made with pork sausage et al. Chicken Parmigiano was good. The boulenaise dish was delish. The pork was tender and the sauce was full of flavor. Glad that Joe our waiter recommended the special. Positives: Service: they were extremely busy but even so our server, Ben was hustling as fast as he could to make sure everyone was taken care of. First time here, server was friendly and helpful. Bread at the beginning was amazing and the sauce was delicious!!! There were a total of 4 adults in our party and we all ordered something different and every single one of us LOVED our meal. Portion sizes were huge and we can not wait to come back. It was busy but our booth was quiet and off to the side. My only complaint would be that the cushion of our booth was beat up and not super comfortable. This is by far the best Italian restaurant in NC. The food is amazing, whoever the chefs are cooked every single thing with love. It's beautiful inside, italian paintings and even a wine cellar. Our waitress, Taylor was everything, we loved her! We tried 7 different things on the menu and everything was great! The bread with the marinara sauce is fantastic and that alone can be eaten by itself lol. Everyone in the whole restaurant was happy and smiling clearly because the food was impeccable and service was second to none. This should be a 5 star Restaurant for sure.
