This place came highly recommended from the people I am staying with so I was excited to give Dan's a whirl. Everything was quite exceptional for the money. I ordered the large size cheeseburger with small fries and a medium chocolate shake. I paid just under ten bucks and had a hard time finishing my food! I especially enjoyed the milkshake (perhaps because I hadn't had one in so long, I dunno) and the burger was just fine. The only complaint is that I'm not a huge fan of shredded lettuce and they really seemed pile that on. HANDS DOWN my fave burger ever. I don't like this new trend of fancy burgers with weird toppings. I want the old fashioned delicious burger of my youth and Dan's has it. First off, the woman who took our order, Jessica, is the sweetest! It was my boyfriends first time and she was more than accommodating. She answered every question we had with excitement and enthusiasm. She let my boyfriend try the bbq sauce to see if it's something he would want. She had a smile on her face the entire time. Then she was so kind and listened and got our order done perfectly. Businesses should clone her. We got the regular burger and my boyfriend got the double meat. Had the jalapeño cheeseburger and the word that came to mind was "average." It was an average tasting meal. Not bad, but not great. I also gave it 3 stars because it was quite dirty inside. I've been a regular customer at Dan's for about ten years, maybe more. (Yes, I'm a geezer.) Anyway, one of my favorites for a long time is their breakfast tacos. They were a good value because they had lots of eggs, bacon, or sausage, potatoes etc. Last Saturday I ordered tacos to take to my prayer group. For some reason, the taco portions have shrunk. Don't know if there is a different taco maker in the kitchen or if Dan's is just trying to make some extra cash. Anyway, I was disappointed. I haven't complained to the management- yet. If this continues, I will.... Their burgers are great, their chicken fried steak is wonderful, and their malts are yummy.... gotta get 'em back up to speed on the size of the bts and I'll be a happy camper. ps. if you plan to go for breakfast at Manchaca and Ben White, I suggest you get there before 8:00 a.m. Otherwise, be prepared to circle the parking lot like a buzzard lookin for a place to land. Once you get parked there is another fifteen to twenty minute wait for a table. On Saturday morning (probably Sunday too) you might consider calling in your order and take somewhere else to eat it.... Come on Dan's, please start building those bigger breakfast tacos. My burger was kind of dripping with grease, and again they don't have the big, thick patty that I look for when I'm craving a homemade burger. C'mon, Austin! We drive past this place all the time! Now, after finally stopping and trying it out, I'm kicking myself for not stopping here years ago! This place is mouthwatering good! We grabbed a quick cheeseburger and curly fries. Love that the burgers come in 3 sizes. The small was perfect for me and a medium for my son. The burgers are seasoned perfectly and just juicy enough to make you fall in love. But, not so juicy that you can't eat it on the run. The curly fries are crispy and oh so good! I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time because I had heard great things and I see the line coming out of that place. It's always packed. I was not at all impressed with the service or the food yesterday. First off, have a plan to get in and out of the parking lot. Accessing this place and getting out of it can be a nightmare and I knew this because I drive by it three times a day. I would not use to drive thru. I specifically went inside for a to-go order because getting onto Manchaca from the drive thru is impossible at times. Second, the woman at the cash register taking my order kept snapping at me to answer order questions and wouldn't give me a second to think about the question. I found her demeanor to be very rude and ungregarious. I then waited 35 min for a TO-GO cheese burger. In turn, this made me late getting back to work. The guy that ordered two people after me actually ended up requesting a refund because it was taking so long. I wish I had considered doing that myself. Lastly, my cheese burger was disgustingly cold and the patty was dried out when I got to it. I literally work three driveways away from Dan's so, it's not like I had long commute and it had time to cool down. Never ever again! I'm so disappointed I wasted one of my two hamburgers a year on this place. How is ranked so high? read more

I normally only write positive reviews, but this spot was unfortunately very underwhelming, despite all the positive hype in the reviews on Yelp and Google. One of the least tasty burgers and order of fries I've had in my life...and I've had a lot of burgers and fries. Also I was surprised they don't have an allergy menu (important for those with legitimate food allergies or sensitivities). Furthermore, the wait at the pickup window in the drive-through was much more than you'd encounter at In-N-Out, P Terry's, McDonalds, or other fast food chains (seemed to take 3-4 mins upon arrival to the pickup window). That theoretically could be a good sign in terms of demonstrating freshness, higher quality ingredients, etc. But that was not the case here. The burgers, buns, and toppings all tasted very industrialized / processed and subpar in terms of taste. Probably an acquired taste. So many delicious burgers in the US of A, try the others that easily take the cake over Dan's! read more

I've been going to Dan's for decades... Growing up, I remember going there on a regular basis with my Grandparents. And now we go there pretty regularly with my own kids. This is the real deal. Like I said, been going for years, and it still looks the same as I remember when I was a kid. I think they did some updating inside a few years ago, but nothing drastic. And most importantly, the food is still off the hook. And still pretty cheap. My family of four can each get a big burger, fries and drink for about 20 bucks... I see everyone mentions the burgers and breakfast for the most part. Burgers are awesome. You get that grease and mayo mixing together and next thing you know you got it dripping down to your elbows. A tell-tell sign, in my opinion, in distinguishing a great burger. The breakfast is great too, Good ole country type breakfast menu. Huge breakfast tacos, Huevos rancheros are decent. They always have great coffee. Lately though, the most impressive thing to me has been their chicken tender basket. 4 big tenders fried to a wonderful crispiness, fries and a big serving of cream gravy. Every time we go now, either my wife or I have to get a tender basket to split so we can enjoy them as well as the burgers. So all and all, Dan's Hamburgers is top notch in my book. read more

Pluses are that they are one of the only places that I can get a small serving of biscuits and gravy to go, stringy hash browns, and super inauthentic breakfast tacos that somehow hit the spot. Perfectly seasoned, thick french fries. The absolute best fish sandwich I have ever eaten. Anything you get at Dan's is cooked at restaurant quality, and out the door as quick as any fast food restaurant. On 6/12/21 my wife & I followed the instructions just inside the entrance that stated "Please seat yourself." So we did. After consulting with the two young female patrons who were seated at a 4 top which was actually 2 small tables pushed together if they mind if we separate the unused table and sit. Their response was "sure" Then along comes the waitress for that station who informs us that those tables are not meant to be separated. You cannot sit there. "But we cleared with the other guests of the table if this table 25 call ours 25b .problem solved" but noooooo. Now she involves the manager who spoke so abrasively to me that he though it would be o.k. to include the phase"shut up" and shortly after that decided that they would refuse to serve us.He changed his mind quickly after a brief reminder of APDs long response time that would be burning up heavy revenues of a heavy serving time cause that is who is gonna have to come get me out of that table or just get me a less negative waitress so he chose the latter. Dans is simply awesome. Every now and then when I'm hankering for a burger and shake, I know where to go. Dan's burgers are SO GOOD and it's awesome that they come in three different sizes. Their shakes are also delicious and their onion rings are the best I've ever had- good batter and when you bite into the onion ring, the whole onion doesn't fall out... I hate that. Amazingly, the food isn't super greasy or disgusting like it is at other fast foodey places. And did I mention that it's super cheap? Sweet. Are the fries good? Check. Awesome shakes? Check. Top shelf onion rings? Check. They also have a variety of other sandwiches, including fish and chicken. Now back to breakfast. The run down building at Dan's reflects the run down state of the food that has not aged gracefully. The burger itself is decent. A large patty is 1/3 pound so you can get plenty of ground beef but it has no special flavor at all, even if you get the Hickory sauce. The state of the vegetable toppings is pretty sickly. Shakes: gross. They are just soft serve with the flavor blended in. Curly fries: best part of the meal. They are not anywhere close to the best fries you will have but they are decent. read more

The biscuits are nice and fluffy (not the typical stale hard biscuits you get at other places), and the gravy is fresh and real (not the gelatinous slop you get at other places). I WANT TO GIVE THEM A THREE STAR RATING. I deliver food for a service here in town, so I want to be upfront that I did not actually eat their food. Service was great! They took my call-ahead order, bagged up the large order of food, offered ketchup and a drink holder. THE HUGE PROBLEM: The styrofoam cups were flimsy and top-heavy, and the drink holder was worse. I could tell they weren't the best as I was preparing to leave, but drinks usually stay on my center console pretty well, so I trusted the process and moved along. The drinks FELL OUT of the drink carrier after I was out of the parking lot. Luckily, I was able to grab them quickly without swerving into traffic. Even when I switched them to my fool-proof drink spots, they still were too top-heavy and kept leaning and falling. This wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I weren't working for tips, and delivering to people 5 miles away, who expect a good product to arrive. Super frustrating. They can't be saving THAT much money that those cups are worth it; I was actually worried that they would crack and tear. And when I pushed the lid down around the lip of the cup (drinks are self-serve), I felt the bottom two inches start to buckle. Also, I have never seen a cup holder that #1 was too small for the diameter of the bottom of the cup, and #2 didn't actually hold the cups upright. Super flimsy. This was a tough one! read more

After reading all the reviews we decided to hit up Dan's with some pretty high expectations. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype IMO. They do have some good prices and a specialized menu. The woman who took our order was very friendly and took time with a couple of rookies which was great. I really liked seeing the jalapeno burgers and the different sizes of patties you could order. Unfortunately the taste of the burgers wasn't up to snuff. I was disappointed to say that I felt they were below average for a burger joint. The fries and rings were good, but you don't get a lot for the money which was also surprising. Vanilla shake was very very good and a good price so that made up for it a little Overall I'd say Dan's is worth a visit or two if you're in the area, but not worth a drive across town just to try it. read more

It's ok. It's a hamburger joint. I don't expect high class but I do expect clean. I have been here twice. I have yet to see it clean. It just seems dirty to the point that I always wind up wishing I'd gotten it to go. The counter help is always pleasant but don't be talking on the phone (personal call obviously from the half I heard) when you have customers ordering. The guy taking my order was not on the phone. One of his co-workers was and she was loud. The curly fries are good. I had a shake that wasn't mixed very well. The hamburger itself is well done. It's a greasy, old school burger on a bun. It tastes good. It's not expensive. They don't take plastic, but they do have an ATM right beside the registers. Dan's is just one of those places that is a miss for me in terms of the atmosphere. I don't need fine dining, but I do want to feel like the place is clean. The dingy atmosphere is a real drawback for me. So it's just a "meh" for me all in all. read more
