This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in Georgia. The quality is comparable to Atlanta style eateries in the city. Both times we've eaten here have been take out. The down fall is that it's in an older plaza so there's not much ambiance. The interior needs a Gordon Ramsey makeover. The food was on point. In terms of quality of food and having the food accompany additional spices made the place special. I'm very judicious with my stars. Only thing lacking in this place would be super nice seating areas. This the 4 stars. However the food is 5 star all the way. The service is great! Visited for the first time last night and my wife and I were made to feel like regulars. The chicken satay was super good. My wife had the Pard Thai...known as Pad Thai to most...I had the red curry Thai hot and it was flavorful. The owner brought out additional spice in sauce form as well as dry. I travel over 60% for work and eat at Thai restaurants all over the country. This is the best one and I frequently drive the 30+ min drive to eat here. The restaurant is a hole in the wall in an old strip mall. However, the food and prices can't be beat. Don't let the decor or location dissuade you. A family owned and run restaurant, the staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to please. For appetizers, the Basil rolls are a must. The chicken larb and cucumber salad are also very good. We have never had a bad entree. Usually, we order a combination of Masaman curry, cashew nut or pad prik. The spicy basil noodle and fried rices are also very good. Lunch is available Mon-Fri and includes soup and a spring roll. Red curry catfish is a great lunch choice. read more

I have been recently trying to find an authentic Thai restaurant to fulfill my red curry cravings - and boy did I find THE best place in Gwinnett County! The red curry was excellent, so was the Pard Thai (the measure of any good Thai restaurant) and the Spicy Basil Noodles. Everything was able to be made vegetarian and/or vegan, which is a huge plus in my opinion. The owner was very friendly, and so was the staff. The prices were excellent - 5 people dined for less than $50! The food is delicious- the chefs have perfected the balance of sweet, sour, spicy , and salty in every dish - and can come in a variety of spice levels - great for if people like really spicy food or if they like milder flavors. This place has the BEST Thai food that I have ever eaten. Other places are mediocre at best when compared to Danthai. The strip mall location leaves alot to be desired, but I am glad I tried it, because it truly is a hidden gem in Gwinnett. I have had the pad thai, massaman curry, spring rolls, tom yum soup, curry puffs, dumplings, and roasted chili stir fry and EVERY single item has been delicious--there really is no misses at this restaurant. We are also fans of Lavender Bistro on Scenic Highway. I have dined and carried out from Danthai countless times. There are many good reasons why you should also consider them. I am not much of a Thai food expert but I do love Asian cuisine: Chinese, Hibachi, Sushi etc...So that being said I usually play it safe and get the Thai Basil Fried Rice, and it is heavenly! He will ask you if you want it spicy. Please be warned, if you say yes be prepared to drink pitcher after pitcher of water and work up a sweat! There are also several yummy things to choose from that are popular favorites such as the coconut soup, or calimari. The atmosphere is nothing special, which to me allows for a very comfortable and quiet meal. I love taking my girlfriend on dates there because we can always hear each other talk. Last but not least the Owner is very kind, courteous and a great chef. I promise you'll enjoy your meal whatever you decide. I was craving Panang Chicken this afternoon and decided to give this place a try. Heeding the advice of prior posts, I requested a "little spicy" because I like some heat. I couldn't eat over half of my entree it was too hot. I'll chick it up to a miscommunication. I really can't fathom the bad reviews. I've been coming to Danthai for years and year s. I've always been met with outstanding food and service! As a pre-lunch treat, they bring you either of two amazing soups: Tom yum and coconut chicken soup. Whenever I have a cold, I get an order of Tom Yum to-go. It has the perfect spicy bite that works wonders or the sinuses and/or sore throat. 10x better than chicken noodle soup. Their coconut chicken soup is to die for. The soup is also served with a spring roll and sweet sauce. YUM! The curry dishes are great, but i usually stick with my lifelong favorite: Pad-Se-Ew. It's wide rice noodles, eggs, broccoli, baby corn, the meat of your choice, and other goodies stir fried together to create heaven in earth. I highly suggest it. Oh my gosh, I've been having cravings for some good pad thai for a couple of weeks or so and this place did its job. My craving was filled. Service was funtastic. They were friendly and fast. The shop from the outside may make it seem extravagant and expensive, but prices were actually pretty fair. The shop appeared to be own by a family. Decorations were nice. Shop was clean and organized. Food was delicious. I ordered a really spicy chicken pad thai and I was love-strucken. Eventhough, I did want it a little bit more spicier, but it was alright I can handle it. Overall, I am willing to come back and try some of their other dishes. Please note: - The drive there may seem scary coming from up North, but it's worth it. - If you like some heat in your dish, make sure to tell them you want extra spicy or really spicy. The place wasn't empty, but it wasn't packed, which may have been because sparse layout of the tables. The man who brought us out utensils seemed easily confused. We ordered dumplings, fried tofu, fried squid, chicken satay, and pad thai. The dumplings were really good and tasted kind of like the shrimp cakes (?) you would find at dim sum. The tofu was pretty bland, but the sauce that it came with made up for it. The peanut sauce that came with the chicken satay was really good. The pad thai wasn't as good as other Thai places I've been to. The most disappointing thing however, was the Thai tea. It was very bland. I've eaten here for 20 years now (holy crap, I feel old), and it continues to be the best Thai food I've ever had. I live in Atlanta, but my wife and I drive out to randomville, Gwinnett to go there because it is better than any other place, period. Their basil rolls are really good and they make their own house sauce for them, which is a mixture of soy and peanut sauce. We've visited other Thai restaurants in cities like New York, Chicago, Nashville, Lakesville, etc, but nothing beats Danthai's Pad Thai. Their sweet tea is also one of my favorites! read more
