Ordered and eaten food from Daoni 5-6 times already. And the sushi is always great. The staff has always been friendly. Also, though this might be setting the bar very high, they have never gotten my order incorrect. Solid.

I was on board with this sushi place until I learned they charge extra for spicy mayo. OK, I get it. It's a business, they need to make money. But if you're going to charge an average of $20 per roll, it would be nice if you can just offer a little something on good faith. And it wasn't like I asked for anything big - just a little bit of sauce to elevate an otherwise bland (and small) roll. My only favorite thing was the crispy rice with spicy tuna. Everything else was pretty average. Our first time was a weird experience. The lady looked at my BF weird during the tipping part as he was entering it on her Apple Pay machine, like she was expecting him to tip more or something. The whole thing felt awkward.

The food was absolutely amazing. We had a California roll, spicy tuna roll, and sashimi bento box. Everything was fresh. The miso soup was delicious, too. And the restaurant itself is clean. The staff is also very nice and attentive.

I ordered the 12 piece omakase and my husband for the BOGO rolls, garlic albacore, and yellowfin tuna. The omakase pieces were large and tasted great. My favorite are amaebi and hotate. I love it when they fry the shrimp head. My husband really liked the garlic albacore. Music was pleasant and the staff was nice. Would come back again for such a good omakase deal!

The place is not very big but very quaint. Seems like good amount of seating with none at the bar. I liked the decor including the mural and endless bottles of sake. I came here off another friend's recommendation and for another friend's bday. I was a but skeptical given the paper menu but boy this place did not disappoint. We called in a day before to reserve the omakase which I believe days it on the website. The omakase was delicious! 15 pieces of $61 seems like a steal compared to other sushi restaurants. If i remember correctly it was tuna, salmon belly, hamachi belly, king shrimp, albacore, halibut, amaebi with fried shrimp head, black sea perch, scallop, squid, toro, wagyu, eel, tamago, uni. All of them were amazing especially the toro and wagyu. It looks like it came with miso soup too which was a good starter. They also had hamachi rib bones which were a first for me but also delicious. Ankimo is one of favorites so ordered the sashimi and was delicious as well. Im really glad they had kizami wasabi which alot of places dont carry. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. Refilled our drinks fairly regularly and cleaned up our table whenever we finished a dish so we would have room. Overall I would definitely come back and recommend this to anyone.

This has been a goto spot for me and it's not for the rolls. I get their nigiri and specific fish are super fresh. I recommend their Hamachi, Kurodai, Hamachi Toro, and Hamachi Jalapeño. I guess you could say that I like my Yellowtail. I am normally a big salmon fan, but their salmon is really bland and I noticed even with soy sauce it still doesn't really taste that great. Within that last few years I've really grown to like scallops, so I normally like trying them at every sushi spot that has them, but theirs are one of the ones that do not taste fresh. However, other than that, I would highly recommend giving them a try!

My husband and I were looking for a good Omakase sushi restaurant. And Yelp gave pretty good review on this place, so we gave it a try. The price for 8 pieces Omakase is only $32. The price was really good. And any roll you order is BOGO for 50%. So we ordered 2 "8 pieces Omakase" and 2 rolls. The Omakase was a disappointment. The pieces were just regular fishes, no Black Cod, no Cherry Salmon,... The quality of the fish was average only. They were kind of tasteless. In addition we also ordered a Caterpillar Roll and a Salmon Lover Roll. The rolls were not bad for the price. Service was great. The decor was minimalist. It's a good place for sushi roll, not so much for Omakase sushi.

If you're looking for truly exceptional sushi, this spot is unmatched. Every detail is dialed in--from the perfectly made rice to the incredible sauces that elevate every roll. The bluefin is always fresh & the spicy hotate is a must-try. You can taste the chef's skill and passion in every bite. The service is consistently friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. For top-tier quality at a reasonable price, this is hands-down the best sushi experience you'll find in Orange.

We stopped by here on my birthday for a nice evening dinner. Got there a little before sunset. There's just something magical about eating outside during a sunset, especially at the Orange Plaza. The restaurant has such a cool look and vibe! We started off with the Hamachi crudo, salmon ceviche, and a bowl of clam "chowdah". The crudo was absolutely delicious, highly recommend. The salmon ceviche was really good but a bit heavy on the sauce for me. The clam chowder had whole clams in the shell throughout. That was fun to pick them out! For entrees we got the lean and mean plate with sea bass. It comes with salad and rice, we substituted the rice for black beans. We also got the skirt steak "bulgogi" which was served on top of mushrooms and bok choy with a sweet soy sauce. They accidentally brought out salmon instead of sea bass, but were very apologetic. They brought out a sea bass on the side and comped the entree to make up for it. Great service right there! The salmon and seabass were both delicious and cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and juicy, full of flavor. As a birthday gift they brought out a thai milk tea blondie sundae which was soooo good! Get it if you like sweets. I wish the owners all the best in their future endeavors, they created a great restaurant that many will miss. Thanks to all the servers, hostesses, cooks, and bussers as well for making my birthday dinner so special!

The quality of both the food and service has noticeably improved, reflecting a real commitment to excellence. Managers Sam and Vincent made the evening exceptional by focusing on the little things--creating the right ambiance, adjusting the shades at the perfect time, maintaining an appropriate sound level, and ensuring every table was spotless, greeting all guest and serving. Those details don't go unnoticed. The true star of the evening was our server, Jason. Despite a packed restaurant and a busy section, he was professional, attentive, listened carefully to our dining preferences (very picky), and delivered flawless service and dining experience. He is head and shoulders above most servers in Orange County finest restaurant. If you're visiting from out of town, check the Angels' schedule before you go, as this location can get very busy on game days. Even when the restaurant is full, the team consistently delivers, unlike Angels, if want a great dining experience, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Like Gene, the serrano ahi poke bowl with wontons was the "go to" for every visit. Another fan favorite was the guac-poke with wontons. Well, wontons were removed from the menu altogether, and the serving size of the ahi is half of what it used to be. Not sure if this was a local decision or corporate decision, but it was a bad one! Second faux pas on the new menu is the removal of black beans with the taco plate. Now your options are fries or a salad. Who orders fries or salad with tacos? Black beans are so cheap. Even if you charge $1 for them, you're making money. Doesn't make sense to remove them. Oh, and the 3 taco plate is no longer an option. You can only get 2 tacos now. Third questionable decision ... eliminating the miso salad. The bartender told me that the house salad on the menu is the same as the miso salad. They mean the same thing. When the runner delivered what I thought was the miso salad, it looked different. So I asked her if this was the miso salad. She said no, that is no longer on the menu. So .... ya. Another big change for me was the removal of my favorite wine, the chenin blanc. The other whites are subpar IMO and not worth the drive over there ... especially with all these really poor menu changes. So now you know why I'm looking for a new happy place. If you know of any open air, fresh fish places, please DM me. Thanks! P.S. I went back and forth between giving 2 stars and 3 stars. The employees here are really exceptional. And I didn't think it was fair to give the whole restaurant 2 stars because their culinary executive is absolutely clueless.
