Massively lacking communication skills plus high prices = Horrible customer experience. Communication from a service writer to customer is almost non existent. They will not come talk to you while you wait IN THE SAME ROOM AS THE EMPLOYEES. Instead, you will receive a text or a form email. Texting and phone calls when you are not waiting on the premises is unprofessional, unclear and vague. Little to no problem solving is demonstrated. I have seen the customer service here slip from ok with expensive prices in 2019 to expensive and frustrating in 2025. Side note: new VW sales are in the same room. Salespeople did not have customers to interact with when I was present. They were loudly socializing with other employees, and one salesperson shouted "What up, my N- slur?!" As a form of greeting to an African American co worker. This appeared to be fine in their friend group, but I did not find that interaction appropriate in a public space in a place of business. Bring your VW here if you don't need your car for days or if you like sitting in a lobby for hours with no information. read more

I wasn't sure I wanted a Volkswagen but after FAWAD took his time and explained all the features and gave me comparisons I was pretty much sold. JORDAN was really helpful with getting me through paperwork and finance side. They both were very patient and went above and beyond for me (I did a total of 4 test drives over 2 days). The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is because they do financing at Toyota and it took over 1.5 hours to start the buying process after already being there for 3.5 hours. read more

Run, don't walk from service at this dealership. Took my 2010 Jetta in on June 30 for 130K service. First time to this dealer as I moved here. They drained the sunroof, looks like on the headliner and didn't bother to clean any of that up. Rotated the tires and now I am missing the special lug nut tool from my trunk plus six plastic lug nut covers. They left some greasy rags in the engine bay for next time I guess. read more

Service is awful. We took our Taos in for 10K service and nothing wrong with it. Within a week our "reduce oil level" light kicked on. we took it back in the hope that it would be as simple as draining some oil. Were told it was fixed, then within a day it was back on. We regretfully took it back emphasizing the issue and asking them to check sensors to ensure this didn't happen again. Within a week the oil light is back on again. Awful customer service, we weren't able to schedule an appointment due to the lack of complexity and "quick fix". We arrived as the garage opened and had to wait 4 hours for a non-fix. They left a socket wrench on our passenger seat as well. read more

I schedule and appointment to have the car serviced. The service mechanic tells the service rep to charge me for the service. The rep looks at the tech and says he just purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago. During the purchasing process the salesman did not seem very interested, well he quit days after I purchased this vehicle. VW wake the F*#K UP--DARCARS IS NOT worthy of the VW name. I don't know if DARCARS is choosing to slowly back out of being a VW dealer, but my last two experiences there have been mediocre and I have utilized them for over a decade on two cars. First - they took the nice VW showroom and waiting area, gave it to Lexus, then relegated the VW waiting area to a hard to find dark area at the back of the lot. Secondly, the service front desk staff working there are terrible. I would rather have three competent, proactive people (ie the way things were until a couple of years ago) versus 10 people who can't even answer basic questions (ie "what is the warranty for the work you just did on my car"). Yes it is nice they implemented a system that texts me (though doesn't text to say when work is running behind), and shows a technician holding up something as explanation for the need to do it, but the people working the front can't even do basics of customer interaction. Work that was estimated at 2 hours took almost 4 and I heard nothing from front desk or their app. It felt like being in the DMV waiting to get your driver's license, including the dim lighting. I'm assuming (actually hoping) the quality of the work which was basic 30k mile service and a brake pad change is ok, and that they have chosen to invest in technicians instead of the front office staff. The front office staff is pretty abysmal, need to do better. Interesting that this is the second time I didn't get a survey from VW or DARCARS post service either. Given Bethesda and Rockville VW are flat out terrible, I guess I will look at trying Laurel VW out. read more

After being a loyal customer for 10 years, they tried to charge me 40% more than the price listed on their own website for a part I needed replaced. The part not including labor was listed at about $2300 on their parts website (which is already $600 more than the recommended Kelley Blue Book price that did include the labor cost) but they told me in person the price was $3200 before an additional $1450 for labor. When I asked about the discrepancy I wasn't given a straight answer and was simply told it's their right to up charge for parts and labor. Ended up taking my car somewhere else. Awful service department. I got a recall notice for my golf so called to bring my car in for service. During the call I said I only had a limited time window so asked how long the service would take. They said they could have me in and out "about an hour," so I scheduled an appointment. When I got there, they told me that it would actually take two hours for service. I said fine, because I had already driven 30 minutes there and needed the work done. It took over 3 hours for the service, forcing me to miss an important meeting at work. They didn't even apologize for the delay. If I had known how long it would take, I would have scheduled the service at a different time. Lastly, when they called to say the car was ready, it was still at the service location. It took them over half an hour to return it from the service shop to the service headquarters for me to pick it up. What an awful, deceitful place. We are shopping for a new car, and thanks to this experience we will not be buying another VW. read more

DARCARS Assurance ($2,495) is optional Buyer beware: No matter how hard the sales manager tries to upsell you the "DARCARS Assurance," keep in mind this $2,500 service is completely optional. I recently went to buy a car at DARCARS at Silver Spring and when we went to finalize the transaction, a surprise charge of $2,500 was added to our bill. Keep in mind that this is not a service we requested nor wanted. We asked the sales consultant if it was optional and she said it was. Then, the sales manager clearly undermined her and stated it was NOT an optional service. I was ready to walk away from the transaction as it was very dishonest and underhanded. Luckily, we discussed this with the finance manager and with support from the general manager, he was able to rectify the situation and remove the $2,500 charge from the bill. If you are going to buy a car from this dealership, please ask for all charges upfront, so that you do not end up with a $2,500 surprise, as the sales manager is going to try very hard to sell it to you. I bought new tires in July 2020 for my daughters car and when she brought it in because the tires were improperly balanced and losing air, the service tech was so rude and condescending that she left crying. A few days ago I just bought my FIRST ever car by myself and I had the BEST experience. If you're anything like me, I researched my car (white Jetta SE) for MONTHS and then another few months finding dealerships that had the car I wanted and then I tried to get in contact with the best salesman from each dealership. And I seriously hit jackpot when I met Aurel "R". There's a reason why he has SO many good reviews. He really is trying to erase the pushy salesman stereotype! Unlike other dealerships, he didn't discriminate me by my age or gender (22, female) or the fact I'm a complete terrible negotiator. Instead, he put himself in my shoes and gave me a price that I couldn't refuse WITHOUT being pushy, aggressive, or rude (aka other dealerships). Did I mention that this man barely eats because he has back to back clients all day?? And he STILL has a better attitude and personality than those salesmen who have a full stomach. Lastly, I just want to say, R seriously does the ABSOLUTE most to make me happy with not only the price of the car, but the experience. UPDATE: After dealing with the Service Manager Jose, I had a great interaction. I will note that Peter who happens to be the Assistant Service Manager is still horrid. Basically, he lied on me and said that I was rude and yelling . A big no-no! The highlights were Lewis the lovely gentleman who aided me after I received no service while waiting at the counter for 2 mins with two able-bodied employees. They allowed a customer to take up two windows. Just strikes after another. I realized that after I receive my 2nd key being programmed at this location, how I will not be returning for maintenance even after purchasing the VW Care package at this location. I will be going to the Alexandria location as they treated me amazing the first time and still allowed me to come in without an appointment to check out my car. This location only does half the work. Lack of common sense or maybe just a sincere effort of not wanting to go above and beyond. And I'm sorry but that's no place I'd like to give my business too. I came here for an oil leak problem and I came a day after the intended service and all they did was attempt to clean up the oil. And I requested to look under the hood and they were about to send me off with low oil. If it's a leak wouldn't you need to replenish the oil? ------------------------------------------------------ So I brought my car from this location and it's okay. It's not great or the best. Today after owning my car for less than 3 weeks, my engine light comes on. I called multiple locations and Springfield was willing to look at it today. This dealership said nope, must wait until Monday. Literally, I've only driven this car 5 times. So the issue didn't arise from me. Peter in the service department is rude. He bluntly said to me what do you want me to do? You need to take it back to Springfield and have them complete the job. He continues to ask me why they didn't finished everything. I said sir I'm not a mechanic so I don't know. But they were fully booked today. They told me to come here; even though I didn't want too. I said fix my car as it is new and even has the temporary tags on it. This location doesn't offer loaner cars. When I purchased my vehicle they didn't even have my 2nd key and today when I came in they still didn't have it. Please avoid this location at all cost. I will tell my friends, family and associates to not come here. If you want good service with multiple mechanics go to the Springfield, VA location. They are happy to help even without an appointment they will to squeeze you in just to look at your car. read more

Sadly after a great experience purchasing the car, it's been mostly downhill with these folks since. We found out after taking the car home, the car actually didn't have a third row seat as promised. Later on, service schedules were difficult to coordinate and we were not offered loaners. Then when the pandemic hit and prices rose, I actually called them proactively to discuss letting them buy my car before giving anyone else a shot, but could never get the same guy on the phone twice in a row. Lots of phone tag and no basic ability to respond to e-mails consistently. Finally went in and got an OK offer which they said they might raise "if I did something today" in a discussion that felt very godfather / mafia like. Then they proceeded to jack up the price of the car I drove (an unpopular model which had been lying around forever) in their web site by $1000 the next day before dropping it back a few weeks later. Finally went elsewhere out of frustration and lack of ability to compete with larger dealers on inventory or pricing. Total amateur hour which is why it seems good people have steadily left. Even pricing which was always good isn't competitive anymore as they are trying to milk the current market conditions. read more

This shop is deceitful. I have been bringing my car here for regular service since I purchased it in 2014. Numerous times, I paid for things that didn't feel right. Being a young female and not knowing much about cars, I went ahead and had these services done. A few days ago my battery died. I had it jumped by a tow truck and immediately after a bunch of service lights came on. I was told this is normal for VWs, and that they must be reset by a shop. The next day I went to the dealership to have the battery replaced and the lights reset. They changed the battery and reset most of the lights. All went off except the ABS warning. I was charged $213 for a battery and told I would need to pay a additional $145 to diagnosis the ABS. I called a few friends and they suggested I take my car to another mechanic for a second opinion. There is no reason my ABS light should be on after a jump. I had no problems with it before. My friends were also aware of other issues I had with this shop. They feared I might be getting jipped. That afternoon I took it to Pro AutoBahn in Laurel, MD. Within 3 minutes of looking at the car they noticed the ABS fuse had been removed! Fuses are held tight within a box and simply do not fall out. No one has ever touched my car. Besides the tow truck driver, who I watched jump my car, the only place I go to is DARCARS in Silver Spring. I was shocked! Pro Autobahn provided me a fuse and the light went away. They too were surprised this had happened. They actually felt bad for me and didn't charge me at all. A part of me wants to believe this was done on accident but I am not sure how else this could have happened. DARCARS could have easily made $145 off of me had I not took it to another place. Who knows, it could have even went as far as them charging $100's more for services I did not need. I feel lied too and more importantly disappointed... I wish I had figured this out about them sooner. Who knows what other times I was overcharged. read more

I'm giving them 2 stars because it looks like all the 1 star reviews have been filtered. But they deserve 1 star. I scheduled my VW TDI for it's 40k service using VW's website. The 40k service is the first service after the free maintainance period ended, and it's very expensive and thorough. Even though dealer's service centers are expensive, I chose Darcars because I wanted everything done right. The 40k is one of the most important for cars with DSG transmissions because it includes a full transmission fluid change, plus air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, sunroof drainage cleaning, and service on a couple belts (VW's version of the timing belt - very important to keep in good condition). So after VW sent the service request to Darcars, they contacted me to scheudule an appointment and quote $750. OK, fine - it's a lot, but honestly not as much as I expected. I drop my car off at 11pm. The assigned service tech isn't in the building, so I just check in with the receptionist. Around 3, I see I have an email from Darcars, basically a checklist of all the stuff that is done at the 20k service (oil, etc). I find I have a voice mail from the service tech telling me they found a broken fog light - and call if I want it fixed. So I try to call the service department a couple times. I can't ever get through to a human - basically I am put in a phone que loop, where the front desk puts it through to service, no one picks up, and I talk to the front desk again. After wasting some time at this game, I give up. I get to the shop 15 minutes before 5. Lo and behold, the tech has left the building. I'll have to bring the car back to get the headlight fixed. The bill is only $550. I notice it is missing some key items - DSG service is not mentioned, nor is the sunroof or belts. However, they billed me for oil change & filter, fuel filter, air filter, and a couple odds and ends. $550. Since the tech is gone, no one can answer questions about my car. No one knows if the DSG was serviced, or what they found regarding belts. So I call back the next day. And the next day. And the next day... Through the week. Their phone system never works. At one point, the tech calls me back but I can't return HER calls because she doesn't have a direct extension and is never in the shop. I try calling the service manager, Kevin. Unfortunately, he doesn't answer his phone and his voice mailbox is full, so I can't leave a message. A few days go by, VW emails me a customer satisfaction survey. So I put in my story... NOW Kevin calls me back. And emails me. And makes sure I get to talk to him. He tells me the DSG wasn't serviced. He doesn't know why. He says of course his techs checked the belts. When I ask about the sunroof, he goes "Your car has a sunroof?" Of COURSE it has a sunroof. IF the shop had bothered to put the VIN into their computer, they'd see it had a sunroof (if they couldn't see it anyways). He says I can reschedule an appointment for them to complete the service, which will cost more. At the same time, they could also change the foglight and "take a look at the sunroof" (note, VW recommends cleaning the drainage system at 40k, if this doesn't happen water will collect and the car will smell moldy). This shop has now lost my trust, because they clearly aren't doing things by the book. They never entered my VIN... Who knows if they even knew my car had a DSG, or a sunroof, or required diesel?!?! So I took my car to a non-VW shop to complete the work. The manager had his techs go over the car with a finetooth comb, and check all the work that had been "completed". The new shop told me the oil was very black and viscus, like it had been driven 10k, not under 1k since the last oil change. The filter was beginning to break down. The pollen filter was covered with pollen, and they thought it looked about a year old - not 3 weeks old. They also told me there is a black market for things like oil filters. Techs at dealerships often don't replace things like oil filters. Instead, they sell them to aftermarket shops, which use them to service cars. My husband took all the old filters to the shop, and showed them to Kevin. He claimed the second shop was full of crap, that all filters were fresh and had been serviced by his techs. He had no explaination about why they hadn't serviced the DSG (the cost of which had been pre-approved by me!), or the sunroof. So that's it. I am done with Darcars. All in all, my 40k cost double what it should have, well over $1k. All because Darcars is untrustworthy, and I couldn't take them at their word when they said they had done some, but not all, of the required service - and when they made it clear they hadn't entered my VIN # into their computer system to pull up the car's history. I never spoke with the service technician who was assigned my car. I never received a call back from Darcars customer service department (as promised in week 1). Don't go to Darcars. read more

It's a shame that we purchased a VW from this dealer - not because of the dealer itself (can't complain about the car buying experience), but because of both the body shop and service center. Body shop: I've had 2 major accidents. The first, they didn't quite match up the parts correctly, as my door now only only closes when slammed shut and over the years rust has been eating away at the separation caused by this mismatch. The second, my car left the shop not driving smoothly. Of course they advised that I take my car to the service center, who determined that I had 0 transmission fluid left (note: front-end collision). Of course they swore that it was not the body shop's oversight and I had to pay out-of-pocket. Which leads me to the service center... Service center: I've frequented the service center more than the body shop and haven't had any major complaints - until recently. First, they are impossible to reach over the phone. The operator forwards your call, which no one picks up, which gets routed back to the operator, who tries to connect you again, and again no one picks up, then they quietly hang up the line in hopes that you too have given up. Second, they pulled a bait-and-switch - this is the email that I received: VW Synthetic Oil Change for $49.95 After Mail-in Rebate*** ***Rebate offered by Castrol. Must present offer at time of write-up. Pricing applies for most models. Model pricing may vary and is subject to change. Pricing includes parts and labor. Taxes are not included. So, $70 is more than what was advertised, but I went ahead and mailed in the card for my rebate. To my surprise, the check that I received was not only made out to DARCARS, it stated that it was for A FUTURE OIL CHANGE. I contacted customer service but emails seem to go into the same abyss as phone calls. I would rather lose $20 than have to go back and give them more business after their dishonest tactics and complete lack of customer service. For a good 3 weeks I was in search for the new 2015 GTI in the manual transmission and today I brought one home with me! Originally I jumped back and forth between the different VW dealerships in the area to find the perfect price that would fit into my budget. And then eventually, I found myself here. Without a hesitation, whether it is myself again or a friend/ family member that is looking for a VW vehicle, I would recommend the Silver Spring Darcars. This was my time purchasing a new car right out of college and unlike the other dealerships that I have visited, the employees in the sales and finance department did not take advantage of my short knowledge in car buying but rather explained everything thoroughly (*multiple times! which I am so thankful for) until I was able to comprehend every detail. Since then I have heard from the dealership repeated times saying they can get me a better deal. I was under the impression that Han gave me the best deal during the 2 hours I spent there. At this point an exact quote should be given over the phone or via email. Since I have already done a credit report and brought my current vehicle in for an appraisal. It does not make any sense to pay in the 500's for a GTI SE on a lease or otherwise. I just traded in my Lexus RC 350 paying 550 a month on that lease. It is just not adding up. read more

Im sure they forced it off with a flat head or the like. My car did not come in like this so why would you return it like this? They also wanted to charge $100 in labor to change a battery. I had to bring our 2010 Jetta TDI in for warranty work on a defective exhaust pressure valve. I had just moved back from Europe, where we had bought the car from an American reseller. When i brought the car in there, there was some disconnect between VW USA and VW Europe and the service managers at DARCARS couldn't authorize the warranty work to be paid for by VW until they tracked it down. It was going to be around $1000, so I was a little concerned. They sent me home in a rental car and told me they would call me when they had some news. The next morning they called and told me it was all taken care of and it would cost me nothing. When I picked up my car not only had they done the original work, but had taken care of 4 other recall issues, and washed my car. The whole time both service managers were pleasant and honest. So, you may say that they were under obligation to do this, but in my experience many dealerships will take the path of least resistance and do the minimum required. These guys spent a considerable amount of time resolving my unusual issue and were professional to a T. I'll be buying my next VW from them. read more

After struggling to replace my Passat's daytime running lights with brighter bulbs, I decided to let the experts finish the job. I was having a hard time accessing the bulb assembly and did not want to remove the headlights. So I called Darcars to schedule an appointment and, fortunately, they were able to see me the same day. The check in person was new, but very friendly and professional. I explained that I only needed installation service since I already purchased the drl bulbs. It seemed like they would've preferred to install their own bulbs, but expressed that they had problem installing mine. I originally thought the estimate was high, but after calling a few other dealerships/shops after the install, I discovered that they are the cheapest options available . The wait was a bit longer than I anticipated, but since they squeezed me in at the end of the day, I couldn't really complain. read more

They listened to my list of concerns and set as as a goal that of fixing the problem correctly, following VW's protocol. I was educated on how my car works, the problem itself, and the steps they were taking to address it, particularly going to the manufacturer, VW, to gain additional technical support. They both have done everything in their abilities to make my situation right. The service manager, Mario has surpassed excellent customer care in this matter. If the problem continues (please all pray for me that it will not), it is a manufacturing issue and nothing all to do with how the staff there uses their expertise and kindness in making one happy with the process and outcome-fixed car. Preface, this review is strictly for the service department. I would give them negative stars if I could. Originally I didn't bother leaving this review, but a cousin had a miserable experience with them recently so it was a reminder that things have not changed. I went to purchase oil for an oil change, I had a VW Golf TDI, European cars in general usually need a particular spec oil, another spec oil for the diesel models, from the manufacturer themselves, it required Castrol EDGE 5w-30 OE Professional ll03 507 spec. I went in, purchased my oil and filter to get it changed, drain the oil, get the oil and look at it, surprise surprise it's 505 spec oil which is for the regular gasoline engines. Shame on me for not double checking and trusting the associates, but no big deal I went back to change it. I returned and let them know they gave me the wrong one, but instead of an apology what I got was a ridiculous look inferring that I had no idea what I was talking about. After they looked at who sold me the oil, they insisted that no I was wrong and the salesperson could not have made a mistake and that every diesel model that went in for service was changed with the same incorrect spec oil because that is what they had in their large drums. This was followed by more insistence that I was crazy, apparently how I don't know how to read because in the owners manual it specifies what I told them, how there is nothing they could do because they have NEVER stocked that oil I asked about, and I could either take it or return it, meanwhile I have a car in a jack with no oil in it. I left feeling dejected, upset, disappointed, and embarrassed. For the record, I called the other VW dealer in Gaithersburg to make sure I wasn't crazy, I didn't mention what I was sold, but they confirmed what I thought. I later sold the car back to VW because of dieselgate, but went back to spend my goodwill gift card since they were closest dealer to me. Surprise surprise, they had the correct oil in stock for diesel engines that visit, and I spoke to the service manager at the time and he told me that was one of the first things he noticed and corrected when he took over. Double check, triple check, then check everything they do to your car. It is not beyond them to do something incorrectly then deny it. I never got an apology from the guy who berated me at first, but you can be sure he gave me one hell of a time when I had a problem with the goodwill gift card one time. For the record, it was an older American man that first sold me the wrong oil, then it was the older Spanish speaking man with glasses that left me pissed off and embarrassed, twice. Buying a car from darcars has not been an issue, we've bought two. Stay away from that service department, they showed me zero respect as a customer. Bought a 2019 VW Atlas it was fairly painless. The issue I have now is getting my tags. The sixty days are over and I've called three different times and been placed on hold over twenty minutes each time. The worst thing is they say "we'll call you back" but they never do. A disclaimer: Your mileage, as they say, might vary. Here is what happened to me: I needed a scheduled service on my Volkswagen and arranged for an appointment with Darcars Silver Spring. When I arrived at the dealership I was told the service would cost more than $1000. Given that this was for routine maintenance and not repair, I got the feeling that Darcars were trying to overcharge me. I asked for a breakdown of costs and work but the attitude of the staff was: "how dare you ask what we plan to do". So, with such high prices and lousy customer service, I decided to leave. The next day I went to Ourisman Volkswagen of Rockville where my faith in good customer service and reasonable prices was fully restored. The folks at Ourisman were superb and completely open about the work that needed to be done and associated costs. Unlike Darcars, the Ourisman people seem to believe that treating customers well is important in business. And it gets better: it turns out that the Darcars quote was heavily inflated and I saved more than $500 by switching dealers. Final thoughts: As a customer oriented enterprise, I think Darcars should be ashamed of themselves for their prices and attitude. It is fair to say I wouldn't let my worst enemy buy or service a motor vehicle there. ** As for Volkswagen, they have plenty of their own problems right now, which is maybe why they haven't noticed how awful this dealership is. I have an Egolf so can only service my car here, not other dealerships in VA and D.C. So it's a bit of a trek for me. I had trouble scheduling the service, told them what I needed, particularly that I needed my front left tire replaced. They did everything else but that and were completely aloof and couldn't care less that they missed replacing it. Full of excuses and a nonchalant attitude. Dang. Wish I hadn't wasted five hours of my Saturday. If they had listened to what I needed, communicated amongst themselves, and actually been ready for my appointment I would have been a much happier customer. read more

The worst place to be for Volkswagen parts! I went to this place to get parts, for my car and they gave me the wrong parts I went back they dont have the parts. Now the funny parts I paid cash for the parts $277.70 for just a plastic pipe which I had no problem. They don't have the parts in stock and I told them that I can't wait for five days to receive a part so I asked for my refund and these people have the nerves to tell me that they can only issue me a check and the CEO has to sign it and I said ok. It's been over three weeks now and I don't get the check. And I paid cash just like any other business place I believed I should have received my cash back but they hold on to my rights and playing their own unwanted business rules which has no business codes etic. Please don't waste your time and energy to go to this place for anything. Poor customer service and horrible management. They don't even deserves a one star! Customer service my foot! Ya'll nothing but bunch of liars and deceiving employees. I called customer service last week Friday and the lady told me she will make sure the issue is taking care of on Monday, and is one week now I don't even get a text from none ya'll neither a call and you have the nerves to play the same lies and gullible pretending of being a professional here.
