As far as housekeeping every time I am here someone is cleaning something. The place is immaculate. It's as beautiful as a hotel with an old country feel. I've been told by residents that reside here that the food is fantastic, and I would have to say they're right. If you come here around any mealtimes you will be greeted by tempting aromas. They're always doing something to keep they're residents engaged. There's always activities, outings, and people coming to perform. They even have someone bring baby goats. But the most important thing is people are happy here and they feel safe.

Since she is the first person one usually sees when they enter your lovely facility or speak to on the telephone, she has a great responsibility to portray Victoria Court in the best light. She does an extremely exemplary job in her role. From my first introduction to her, I was impressed by her demeanor, which was so kind, genuine, and patient. I immediately felt reassured that our mother was in good hands. I am beyond touched by her ability to embrace and welcome everyone who approaches her, including the residents, as well as, visitors and staff. She is truly a beautiful and pure soul! Victoria Court doesn't have a locked unit or a hallway of memory care seperated from the assisted living side. The whole building is memory care and they have that freedom in thier home. My parents, unfortunately, were both experiencing health issues when we made the decision to move…read morethem up here from North Carolina to be closer to me. I visited several Independent Living homes and the Village was by far the best. It's set on top of a hill overlooking Waterman lake which is breathtaking from spring through fall. The facility is immaculate and the staff goes out of their way to make sure the residents have the resources they need. One of the first things I noticed when my parents moved in was how friendly and welcoming the other residents are. You can tell people enjoy being there, and my parents did too for their short time there. Their health deteriorated faster than any of us expected and they both needed to be moved quickly into the nursing home. If you meet Moriah, the general manager, (or house mom as my parents called her), she is always dressed to the nines with flawless make-up and four inch heels. When my dad needed to be moved to the nursing home, I noticed she had swapped out her skirt and heels for jeans and sneakers. She and two of the facility nurses pushed my dad down to the nursing home in a rolling recliner to make sure he could be moved comfortably and safely. She did the same for my mom when it was her turn. Moriah set-up the move in days and pushed my mom's wheelchair, this time in her heels, to her new room. If my parents had still been in North Carolina when their health crashed, or in a less accommodating facility, I don't know what I would have done. Every staff member in that place from the top to the bottom did what they needed to do to take care of my parents, and that is an invaluable service when you are dealing with aging loved ones.

My mother has been a resident here in the skilled nursing section for about five months now, so I…read morefeel like I can make an accurate assessment of this place. She is in the advanced stages of ALS and requires a fair amount of attention -- she cannot feed or dress herself, and she is difficult to understand because the disease affects speech. But she is usually pleasant despite all of this, and I think the staff appreciates that. The caregivers are mostly very good, kind, and attentive people (a few aren't -- mostly the night crew, but I guess that's not surprising as not a lot of people want to work the night shift). But trying to get cooperation from the kitchen is just flat out impossible. I could actually give North Bay four stars if not for the really poor kitchen situation. The kitchen says it will take special orders and it does. But strangely, it's standard operating procedures that seem to throw the kitchen for a loop. For instance: - They asked my mother what she likes and doesn't like. One of the items she dislikes are mashed potatoes. The little card that comes on her tray says she doesn't want mashed potatoes and yet at EVERY DINNER for the past five months, she receives mashed potatoes - They sometimes forget to bring her a meal. I mean, really. How hard is this? There's a finite number of rooms requiring meal service and those rooms need to be serviced every day. Yet there doesn't seem to be a delivery plan. - Variety is completely lacking. Because my mother is in the advanced stages of her disease, swallowing is difficult so her food must be pureed. Lots of things can be pureed and yet they bring her some tasteless chicken (and by the way, they never identify what they are serving her) at 90% of her meals. - For weeks, she indicated she could not have milk products. They continued to bring her milk for many weeks. They still continue to bring her desserts such as puddings that are milk-based. - It is imperative that she has soup to help moisten even the pureed food. Yet the kitchen forgets to include soup in her meal about half the time. Asking for it once the tray is delivered takes about 40 minutes. Completely UNACCEPTABLE! My family has complained repeatedly about how poor the food service is here but nothing changes. I don't know why. If your loved one is particular about meals or needs special accomodations, I would strongly urge you to look for a different retirement facility. This one is untrainable.

I must say that the staff on the floor; the nurses, CNAs and activities staff were wonderful. I could leave feeling she was safe and well cared for, which was so important to myself and our family I would have given them five stars if not for the financial/management people who are another story. I could name names here but I won't. Suffice it to say that they don't return calls or fill out paperwork in a timely manner or correctly. I also had a situation where they wanted to put my Mother into the rehab unit at one point which really was not warranted. They were trying to get approval from Blue Cross. I asked to be called back on the Insurance status before she was transferred as I did not approve of this transfer without coverage. They never called me back. She was transferred. I went in to sign the code status papers to find out that they wanted me to sign other paperwork because they did not get approval. I was furious to find this out and that they wanted me to sign these papers. After speaking to someone there I was assured that I would in no way be responsible for the nearly $300. per day. It was not my debt. Needless to say I got billed for it. The bill came in my name. It took many phone calls to get them to stop billing me. Then they started billing me for back rent even though they were well aware that she had been approved retroactively for Medicaid. It took many more phone calls and letters. Hopefully this has been resolved. Time will tell.
