This cute spot in Berkeley is a nice white table cloth restaurant with classic Persian dishes. Everything we tried was delicious, the khoresht bodemjan particularly was scrumptious. Very warm and welcoming with great service from all wait staff. All the customers seemed like they were repeat customers who had been here several times and loved coming back. The intimidate restaurant is perfect for a date or a family gathering. Very close to Berkeley campus, it seemed popular with students and parents as well. My Persian gf has me eating Persian food 2-3x/week, so after years, I've become a bit of a Persian food snob -- average places serving Persian grub just will not do. We're up in NoCal away from the gf's family, so celebrating the Persian New Year is a little tough. We decided to seek out and try another Persian restaurant, particularly so that the gf can get the very traditional "zabzi polo mahi" -- baked whitefish with herbed rice. We headed to Daryoush in Berkeley. Parking can be challenging. Lots of other restaurants and businesses have metered street parking at a premium. After driving a couple of blocks around, I elected to park at one of the two public parking structures conveniently located just 1 block away. [note: about $7 for 2 hours] Once inside, it's casual but very cute. Modern lighting and artwork of Kings and ancient monuments. Daryoush, the restaurants and owner, is taking care of everything, whizzing around as host, waiter, busboy -- we learned he's delightful, too, so very nice -- we really grew to like him. The menu, front and back, is filled with all types of specialties. For the novice, it would be difficult to decide. The gf got the traditional new year dish (fish and rice), but I had my heart set on the beef barg, a filet mignon strip, and also a non-traditional rice (with beef, but I've never had it), an upgrade $3.50 for shirin polo (plain cooked rice mixed with slivered almonds, pistachio nuts, orange marmalade, raisins, and saffron). It was totally delish, in fact, I would say I loved it and at a very fair price. [$28.45 with the upgrade, 4.5 stars] The gf loved her fish, too. If the wonderful food and amazing Daryoush weren't enough, we also met a lovely couple at the next table over. All in all, a great and wonderful evening. read more

Yelp recommended Daryoush Persian restaurant in Walnut Creek and today, we went and had a wonderful time. We didn't have reservation but were seated after 5 minutes wait. Like other reviews mentioned, the setting is ambient and the service is fast. We ordered Kashk-e-Bademjan as appetizer. We also enjoyed Khoresht Bodemjan, Shishlik and Beef Koobideh. I enjoyed an early dinner at the new Persian restaurant, Daryoush, on Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. It's located where Kaiwa Sushi used to be. Daryoush's original location was in Berkeley, but they moved to Walnut Creek due to new construction at their former location. Berkeley's loss is our gain. The food at Daryoush was scrumptious! I ordered the Beef Koobideh Kabobs. The plate included two perfectly seasoned kabobs that melted in your mouth. The rice included crispy tahdig, which was a treat. The plate included a perfectly grilled tomato. You can opt to have half salad and half rice; I should have done that to have some green on my plate. The serving was huge; I boxed half for lunch or dinner tomorrow. Since I saved room for dessert, I ordered the Makhloot, a combination of Half Persian Ice cream & Half Faludeh Shirazi. The Persian ice cream was homemade with Saffron, Pistachio, and Rose Water. The Faludeh Shirazi is Persian Icy Rice Noodles flavored with Rose Water. What a sweet treat and very refreshing on this warm day. I also noticed that many of their dishes can be made vegan! The restaurant is beautiful. It's tastefully decorated and has a nice air of romance. Small lamps adorned each table--they were beautiful and practical! They offer both indoor and outdoor dining. Service was impeccable! The young man who helped me asked if I had tried Persian food before and explained that I should enjoy the grilled tomato over the rice and sprinkle the sumac seasoning over the Koobideh. The kabab tasted like plastic and the rice was absolutely awful, for sure it was not basmati and jojek kabab with bone was like you are chewing paper, zero taste. Came in tonight on a Monday after noticing this place being busy yesterday night. Decided to try them out and so glad we did because all the entrees we got were delicious. We ordered the stew with lamb shank and that came with a ton of rice. As well as the other stew that had beef, eggplant, peas and in a tomato sauce. The service was wonderful and everybody was very attentive and kind. Desert was also ordered which we got their baklava and homemade ice cream with pistachio and rose water. It was delicious! The ambiance of the place was relaxing and very well put together, especially since they've only been open for 6 months!
