Chicken Bokit
Rachel B.

The real Caribbean flavour you MUST TRY when in PEI! Datcha is located in Founders Food Hall down by the water and is really turning up the heat for the founders food hall fam! Founders food hall is a collection of small local shops and food businesses with a fun vibe and seating options, a fantastic place to visit especially if you want a good selection of quality food. Datcha brings nothing but the best to the game, a simple menu, personable service and delicious authentic Caribbean eats. Datcha is specializing in Bokit, which is a fried dough like sandwich bread. It is essentially carefully crafted and risen dough that gets fried so it is light, crispy and golden on the outside but fluffy and soft in the middle. For the savoury options it gets filled with deliciously seasoned things like chicken, beef, cod, and some rotating specials. They all come with lettuce and tomato and sauce + a heat level of your choosing. You can make it a meal with a side of perfectly cooked sweet taters or the fried plantains (AMAZIN) that come with the house sauce and optionally coated in more hot sauce (the spice is so delicious if you can handle the heat) The Bokit fried dough buns also come in sweet versions filled with ice cream and toppings like Nutella and banana or berries! I must come back to try one of these soon! The Bokit is huge and runs at about 10-13$ ish for a savoury option with 3-5$ a side and the sweet Bokit is about $5. Overall, Datcha is pretty damn delicious and is bringing some true Caribbean flavours to our wonderful little east coast island!

This was our second place we hit for lobster roll to make a comparison to another place. This one…read morehit the mark with the perfect amount of mayo and acidity on the cold lobster roll. It was a tiny bit smaller though than the other place we went to but no big deal. They offered french fries they were perfectly seasoned and went well with it. The price was a few bucks cheaper as well. Of course you didn't have the indoor comfortable seating area, you had to sit outside on the patio benches and hopefully find one with an umbrella, but it worked out that day since the weather was fine.

Food - 3 The food is prepared either by microwave, fryer,…read moreor panini press. Pulled pork & gravy are microwaved and combined with cold curds (that's why they aren't melty at all). Hot dogs are also microwaved then tossed in the panini press to give the appearance of being grilled. Water is $3, same price as all other non-alcoholic drinks. Fries were perfect, no notes. Lobster is placed on top of the bun to look like there's a lot but once you put it inside the bun, it's quite a mediocre amount. The fish sandwich is served in a hot dog bun (same bun as lobster roll) which is fine but was unexpected. Also, no kids menu. Ambiance - 4.5 Love the location and shaded picnic tables down on the floating dock. Such a fun vibe! Service - 3 Owner had an interesting vibe, but she owned it with total confidence so all the power to her. She wasn't very warm or friendly but danced quite eccentrically while taking orders, an intriguing juxtaposition. Overall rating: 3.5/5 -- Probably won't be back but it's worth a try!
