One of the worst meals I've had in Charlottetown. The signature broccoli chicken crepes had the texture of a wet diaper filled with cat food. Most of the rest of the meal was mediocre. There was a good salad though, althougn I forget which one. read more

Best fish tacos ever! Battered haddock; not greasy, drizzled with a n, mildly spiced aoli. I don't know what the bread that accompanied the dinner was, other than delicious. I wasn't expecting such a casual setting for a place that was labelled 'fine dining' in the tourism catalogue but I'm glad it was. Off the main drag, it's nice and quiet and the dog-friendly patio is huge with lots of spots in the sun or hidden back in the shade. You are in tourist-central Charlottetown, so expect to pay a little more at these places. However, having said that, I was happy to pay the price because of the quality of the food AND the service. Our service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Food came quickly, she came by regularly for refills and the portion size was good for what you pay. Hopped into pilot for their Winterdine 2022 menu week 1 plus some other wonderful eats as well. 2 of us split the Winterdine option (an app, entree, and dessert) plus another appetizer order of the BEST SWEET POTATO FRIES in town and another entree. Appetizers: Winterdine fried mozzarella, roasted tomato sauce, garlic aioli, crostini with balsamic. Cute little appetizer that was enough to share and a tasty pre meal snack. Sweet potato fries were the real star of the appetizer round though, a large order for $10 of the most perfectly crisped and salted taters with a delightful zesty and bright aioli sauce. A MUST TRY! Entrees: Winterdine Cajun crusted pork chop, marinated mushrooms, grilled broccoli, butter & herb potatoes. A lovely presentation and rich dish full of flavour, tantalizing fatty mouth feel and the kick of Cajun. This was very tasty, albeit very salty it was non the less delicious! Second entree was Panko crusted Brie chicken with Caesar salad which offered a lighter meal option. This was a perfectly cooked piece of breaded meat, not dry with surprisingly perfect merriment with the Brie. The salad was fresh and crisp romaine loaded with artisan croutons and big bacon bits + parm. Though again, heavy on the salt, a unique flavour profile in this dish that added some nice brightness to the meal. Dessert: Winterdine dessert was a rich chocolate mousse, with salted caramel drizzle, Skor crumble, and fluffy vanilla whipped cream for a very decadent way to close a tasty meal. This was very sweet yet well balanced in flavours and texture, where the salted caramel brought out the notes of chocolate and the skor bites added the perfect crunch to the whip on top. Perfect to share and satisfy that sweet tooth! Overall, a wonderful time with a great drink selection and cozy atmosphere. Although a heavy hand on the seasoning and salt, the integrity of the food and its service shines! Unfortunately we chose to eat at the pilot house for our wedding anniversary. Had read some good reviews and expect a delicious meal but we're met with poor service and mediocre quality food. Burger was way over cooked and burnt salad was wilted and the mango cocktail tasted like lime extract and sugar. My wife and I stopped by after walking this great town. The bartender was a very nice guy who offered samples of what we have never tried. He introduced us to a local soda pop that I wish we could get in the states. We enjoyed his company very much. So much so that we went back for dinner on the patio and also had a wonderful server. I wanted to give this place 4 stars, but I can't. I never made it to the restaurant all the time I lived in Charlottetown, this visit was a lunch with cousins while visiting home, it's one of their favourite places in town. Since I was mainly interested in catching up on the news, I didn't make note of much of the surroundings or the menu. There are only two things that stand out in my memory of the lunch itself; The outstanding server we had and my disappointement in the lobster roll I ordered. I wish I'd caught our server's name, he was very personable and quick, he checked with us in a timely manner. In all fairness, when asked about the lobster roll, he did say it came in a hot dog bun, I just wasn't expecting in to be in the smallest store bought hot dog bun made. Neither was I expecting, just out of the fridge, lobster claw meat only, with no mayo or seasoning of any kind. There was one speck of something green, I suspect it may have been celery. The bun was, in fact, toasted but somehow had become soggy on the outside. Along with it came fries, they were fine, not the best I've had nor the worst. The only other things on the plate were a wedge of lemon and a dish of ketchup. I will add a picture. I didn't want to complain to our server because, well maybe, some people might like their lobster rolls that way. The lobster tasted fine after I used the lemon wedge and added a little salt & pepper and it was in a hot dog bun as promised. But for $15 I was expecting something better then this. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. We tried a couple of their brewed ales which were nice. I would come back but I wouldn't order the lobster roll. If you have a hankering for one, go to McDonalds instead, a better value IMHO. read more

A very elegant bar & grill in which we had our first meal on the island after leaving YYG and on our way to The Crick. The Pilot House offers fresh, organic and generally locally-sourced ingredients. After waiting for a table at the bar (complete with large screens for the games) and having PEI brewed ales, we sat at a high four-top just a few feet away, still technically in the bar area. This restaurant was recommended to me by a Bed & Breakfast owner in Charlottetown so I decided to try it. The kitchen obviously knows what they're doing. The food, the presention, everything about the meal, itself, was good but I left feeling squeezed by the price & the menu that I believe is misleading . That's why I wouldn't go back. I had just come from another province where the meals were spectacular. The presentation was amazing. The prices were fair. Menus were clear. Fishcakes & side salad $15. (For example.) Honest information presented clearly. The meals were often better than I expected. The Pilot House's menu, on the other hand, lists crab cakes with slaw for $15. It also lists options to replace a side for $3. I chose sweet potato fries because I didn't want the slaw. I expected to pay $3 in addition to the $15 for the crab cakes for a meal totalling $18. When the 2 crab cakes arrived they were each not much bigger (around) than a toonie. I couldn't believe how small they were. The plate of fries, on the other hand was huge. (i took half home) So the main meal was essentially,fries & the tiny crab cake the "starter" or the "side" when they were supposed to be the main meal. As it turns out, I "misunderstood" or "misread" the menu. The crab cakes were under the appetizer section of the menu and the fries were not a subsitute for anything because there was no real side being served with the crab cakes in the first place. Just a sprinkle of slaw on top. Grrr. (The use of language on the menu misleading). My bill with tip (I always tip 20% approx) came to about $34. Too much for a plate of fries and 2 very small appetizer crab cakes. It's not often I leave a good restaurant feeling like I'd wasted my money but I definitely felt that leaving this restaurant. I felt squeazed. I'm a huge foodie. I rarely regret what I spend on good meals but in this case I I00 % regret stepping into this establishment, & caution others to be wary of how this restaurant's menu reads. If a menu is going to complicated management needs 2 step up & train it's staff to be better skilled in communicating to the customer everything they feel the customer needs to know about what they're ordering. They shouldn't be training staff to offer customers fried bread as a starter if they know the meal the customer ordered is going to be too small. Tell them the crab cakes are about the size of a toonie. It's not the customers responsibility to read that far into the mind of the establishment just to ensure they get a good meal for a fair price. I gave this restaurant a low rating even tho the food ( from what I could tell) was good food. I did this because i believe businesses should not be profitting off the trust others put in them not to cheat & deceive them. read more

Fantastic place for a group dinner. We dined 20 clients here and I took the time ahead to contact the restaurant and prepare a menu ahead where everyone would be satisfied. The benefit of the Pilot house is the had a nice private room aside from the general restaurant population and bar for us to enjoy the evening. For the evening I had selected the fish tacos as my appetizer. Three small fish tacos came out that were okay but I'm spoiled as I've enjoyed Cali fish tacos so it's hard to compare. Overall they were above average. Then I went with the lobster cannelloni. A decent but smaller serving size of lobster in a very creamy rich somewhat spicy rose sauce. For dessert I had the stick date pudding which I would contend is one of the best desserts I've had in quite some time. It was decadent and pretty damn scrumptious. An excellent way to end off the meal. Overall all of our guests really enjoyed themselves and service was excellent. A very high quality dining experience and very little negatives other than the bar tab was run a bit looser than I preferred bit next time I will set more clear expectations. read more

I always have great meals during visits to Ch'town (3 x yr). Service is personable and my 2 favourite dishes never disappoint: seafood fettuccini and warm Cajun seafood salad. Like the atmosphere but I always dine at lunch after peak period as it is a popular spot and reservations aren't personally possible so I prefer to miss the rush to ensure I may be seated. I ate here a few Fridays ago with my girlfriend for dinner. The place has a decent decor which is chic. For dinner my girlfriend and I decided to start off our meals with the lobster and goat cheese bruschetta. It tasted good with The bread underneath being crunchy while there were large amounts of tomato in the bruschetta with the lobster too. For dinner I decided on the steak and frites. The steak was a local PEI steak cooked perfectly to the medium that I asked for and had great flavor. The frites were a slight disappointment as they were somewhat soggy which as we all know frites shouldn't be. They still tasted good when dipped in the aioli and I enjoyed my meal. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again I the future. It was a nice place with good atmosphere and nice food. read more

Our visit was July 19 2014 ordered from Breakfast menu my wife had Big Breakfast, it was cooked to perfection and complemented with the "best beans in her lifetime", My Steak and Eggs Benedict was stellar and services was far above average. I really want to try some of Entrees and Apps during our next visit. As a proud Islander, this amazing restaurant has the best food value and service in Charlottetown, a hidden gem that more people need to experience. Great Restaurant! Try the Lobster stuffed chicken, It is out of this world! It's a perfect place to go if you're going to a show at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. The service, however, at The Pilot House is hit and miss. It seems their service actually improves when they are busy. My wife and I went with friends and received mediocre service while the restaurant wasn't even half full, even though they seemed ample staffed. However, we have also experienced incredibly short wait times and decent service when the restaurant is at capacity...a strange contrast! If you're not a seafood lover, do not fret. The Pilot House has something for every palette. If you want some pub food, try the Pilot House burger! If you're in the mood for beef, try the prime rib (slow roasted! mmmm!) If you're in a vegetarian mood, try the Portobello Stack! The stack has this exquisite honey and vinegar sauce that will knock your socks off! They could however update their floral seat covers to match the great food they're putting out. This is a combo pub and dining establishment. The atmosphere is unadorned but comfortable. The food is pleasant, but hardly unique. The chef is restrained in his/her offerings. This is a gathering place for locals and tourists. The owner seldom engages with the clientele and relies on the staff to bridge the gap. The service is functional, but not as open and friendly as we experience in a great number of Atlantic Coast restaurants. The bartenders are the most personable of all the staff, but you only see them if you are sitting at the bar. A good locale, but I think it could be a lot better. I ate here with a coworker for the first time tonight and was very happy. The atmosphere was just average, and the seat was a little uncomfortable - we were sitting at one of the higher pub-style tables and it felt like the seat was too narrow - but the food was fantastic. I had an organic PEI filet mignon with potatoes and steamed veggies. It was cooked perfectly and I ate every bite on my plate. Very happy to find organic meat in a restaurant, and local on top of that. My coworker had a different steak and enjoyed his equally. Highly recommended. read more
