There are not enough stars for this place. First called ahead just cuz I'm an impatient bastard. El hefe had my bag of awesome waiting for me. Polite as hell, wearing a mask, made some small talk, thanked me for choosing his place. So far super exceeding expectations. Ask about sauce cuz I'm from Chicago where sweet baby rays goes on anything with a smoke ring. He said they don't usually use it, but gave me enough to sample all three of the sauces. Hot, sweet, and vinegar. Get back to the house (even though there was empty seating outside, just wasn't feeling the sunshine today, but the lawn was clean and welcoming). Opened up the box of meatlicuousness and omg I was astounded... It looked like a solid 3+ pounds of food. I got the pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and smoked turkey (hefe even asked if I'd had the turkey in the small talk so I knew I was looking forward to that). As you can see by the pic it was a feast. I can't say anything was better than anything else. Turkey was moist and seasoned perfectly with a great smoke ring. Jalapeño cheddar sausages were generous sized and had a good not overly hot kick. The pulled pork had just enough fat mixed in that it felt like it was melting in your mouth. Sides were solid staples with a good flavor. Corn bread muffins were moist and not at all dry. Lastly, that banana pudding. I had to message Hefe specifically back on Instagram after I had my first spoonful. He is truly making maw maws all over the south proud. All in all I can't wait to check out some of the amazing sandwich combinations, and if I ever need any catering this will be the place I call 100%! Juicy, smoke-ringed perfection; we're stuffed and happy. Staff was friendly, welcoming, and patient while we ordered off of the pretty expansive menu. Indoor dining space is small, but enough to sit with a few people at one of the two booth tables or the wall seating. We tucked ourselves right into one of the little booths. For around 40$ we got three sodas, a three meat platter with sides, a pound of rib tips, and an extra side of corn muffins and it was enough to feed my husband and I, two hungry kids, and one picky one, and we did not leave hungry. I've been living in VA for 5 years now by way of Los Angeles, CA. I've tried quite a few bbq places around VA Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake areas and Dave's is by far the Best there is! It's not even a contest. I tried Dave's for the first time today and was thoroughly impressed with the quality and quantity of my 3 meat sampler. Ribs, brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, potato salad and baked beans were all to die for. The spicy coleslaw absolutely blew my Sox off! I live in Chesapeake and rarely venture to VA Beach. I probably haven't had BBQ in over a year. It's something I don't really crave. With everything going on, we decided to get take out at a local joint and Daves BBQ has been bookmarked on my list for quite sometime so this was an easy decision. I placed an order around 2PM on a Friday for pick up at 6PM. I got 1.85lbs of brisket, a full rack of spare ribs, two sides (beans and coleslaw), some cornbread muffins and two orders of their banana pudding. When I called at 2PM to place the order, I was ordering the last bit of the brisket as it is their best seller so I recommend placing an order early to make sure there's any left to order. THIS WAS THE BEST BBQ I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I will say I haven't had much exposure to BBQ around the area or generally speaking, but the BBQ here was excellent. The brisket was exceptionally tender and perfectly "burnt" to my liking, you could really taste the natural flavor of this brisket in every bite. Spareribs are a must get as well with fall off the bone meat and very juicy as well. I like my coleslaw very creamy and the one here was very enjoyable. Cornbread was also a nice touch/side to our dinner. The amount of food was for four people and we still had about half a lb left of brisket and about 4 spare ribs left and some corn muffins. We actually came back the next day because we realized they forgot our banana pudding and they happily recognized me and apologized for the inconvenience. They also gave me some wrapping paper for BBQ for us to heat up back home. Want delicious BBQ? Come to Daves! SN: this is more of a take out spot. I ordered food for 25 people for a catered dinner. Ordered 3/4 brisket, 1/4 chicken, half tray of Mac and cheese and half tray of baked beans. Meaning servings for 25 but in the ratio above. Brisket was amazing. Mac and cheese ended up in a solid mass but was still really good. The baked beans were really tasty. So why not a 5 star? The rub was the food was fairly expensive and and they charged me $30 to deliver it 3 miles. Also no plates or silverware and no barbecue sauce. Those could be provided for an additional fee. I regret not coming here sooner! The place is pretty small but the flavors are very high impact. The brisket that I ordered was extremely tender and flavorful and they gave me 4 thick strips of it! The smoked baked beans is probably the best I've ever had! It's got shreds of chicken (I think?) and medallions of sausages. It's smoky, a little sweet, and really tasty! LOL Ok so for real, you know it's good when it's tiny inside with huge smokers outside and if you don't grab a picnic table, you are eating in your car or on the hood because the only thing you are doing inside is ordering. My hubby always smokes meat for holidays or just 'cause, and he loves this place! The brisket, what?? Melt in your mouth good! The jalapeño smoked sausage? Yes, please! And as minute this detail is, I was so happy they asked if I wanted it whole or sliced. NO ONE ever asks me to have it sliced. Definitely did that! Smoked turkey? Yum (although PS, I still love my hubby's more but the spice on theirs was just right!). My hubby also had ribs in his platter; he loved them. The corn muffins? Sweet enough to cut through all the meat. We had leftovers for another meal, which I was super happy about. And the banana pudding, which they say will change your life, is on point. Well, officially found my favorite BBQ spot in VA Beach. Super fast order prep, and my god this place can BBQ some meat. We had the Ribs, Jalapeño Sausage, Brisket sandwich, and a pulled pork sandwich. Those are probably the best ribs I've ever had in my life, and I lived in Kansas City. Make sure you bring an appetite, the sandwiches are loaded with meat and are amazing. I also recommend the Carolina vinegar and the Sweet BBQ sauce - or just eat the meat plain, it's really that good. Dave's bbq is one of the best barbecue places. The beans and potato salad were really good. Pulled chicken had a unique flavor and a little spicy. I would order again. Also, meat had a lot of flavor, coleslaw had good texture, and beans had a "deep baked taste." They currently don't deliver outside of 10 miles (I tried grub hub, door dash, and postmates). I called in my order and the person who answered was extremely nice. He offered to help give directions to us and said we could call back if we needed help. I'm from Pennsylvania, home of cheesesteak, jawn, and wooder ice. What do I know of BBQ? Let me just tell you. LET ME JUST TELL YOU. Not a lot, okay. But I appreciate FOOD. I ordered the brisket sandwich and Jeer Desus. It's hands down the best BBQ in the 757. I got it with chipotle slaw. Well seasoned, smokey, tender, juicy, burnt edges. Perfection. The sandwich is packed so high I had to unhinge my jaw. Half the sandwich ended up on my face. Which is how BBQ should be enjoyed. I walked in on a Friday afternoon around 1 and was told they were already out of brisket. Very disappointing, I mean how do you not know how much brisket to have prepped? I'd understand running out in the late afternoon or evening, but at 1 pm on a Friday? That's just poor planning. So the ribs were recommended and being a big mark for St. Louis ribs, I went with them. What I got were four ribs total. Not a slab. Not half a slab, which I expected. Four ribs total. They were wonderful, very moist, but come on...you're giving me a quarter slab with two sides for $14? The spicy slaw was good, definitely had some kick, but really really wet, the cabbage was basically swimming in the dressing. The smoked beans came out of a can and at least they added a few touches to them, like the smoke and sliced hot link. Nothing too special. For dessert, I did get the banana pudding and I needed it since my mouth was pretty drained from the slaw. It was a good BP. I expected so much better. Between the pictures and positive reviews, I expected some of the best BBQ in Hampton Roads. What I ultimately got was small portions at poor value. read more

I want to start by saying that Redwood Smoke Shack is still my favorite BUT this place is really good! The smoked turkey and cole slaw are definitely better at Dave's. The potato salad is very different but I love both. Dave's is very mustard forward which is just fine with me but not to everyone's taste. I still like the ribs better at Redwood. And Dave's doesn't make burnt ends. So both are excellent and I would go to either one any day of the week. That said Redwood is not open on Sunday or Monday so that too is a point in favor of Dave's which is open 7 days a week. But yes you should go! read more

I absolutely loved the pulled chicken and if you love coleslaw you have to try to ez slaw which is their spicy slaw. I have been to this establishment two times, but this most recent visit has been by far the best. The new location is much better, there is much more character and local feel now; the shirts, signs, and interior design truly make you feel as if you are in the deep South eating at a barbeque dive. The workers are extremely kind and welcoming, making you feel at home right when you walk in the door. The fries, the corn muffins, and the brisket sandwich were all stupendous, each item bursted with flavor and had the perfect amount of seasoning. The combo platter is the way to go,I had the Brisket,rib tips and pulled pork my sides were potatoe salad and baked beans...my wife had the pulled pork and pulled chicken and the same two sides I had...we also ordered three corn muffins.Let me tell you everything was spot on delicious (you heard me) and the portions were very generous...let's just say neither of us finished our meal and the price was about $40.00 for everything. Topped it with spicy coleslaw and it was a missile! Small sitting area inside with cool signs. Some seating outside as well. The type of place with paper towels on the table. I went to Dave's BBQ again with a cousin and a friend. This is my third visit! You can check my first review of this place on Google Reviews. The wet brisket was like taking another ride on the best attraction in Barbeque Land. It was fatty and wet with that buttery taste. And, I usually don't care for coleslaw, but I welcomed this coleslaw with added spice in it as if it's part of the family. The potato salad was delicious as usual along with the banana pudding. The pork ribs were even more tender. It was delicious; especially, when the meats were splattered with the sweet sauce. One of the best barbecue places in Virginia Beach especially since they smoke their meats for about 12 hours give or take! First off we didn't visit Dave's BBQ because of the name. This place is really easy to miss as it is located in the back behind another business and if it easy for a small sign by the road we would have missed it. Entering from the back of the building on the side you are overwhelmed by the smoked meat smell. Very small place, but you can eat there if not crowded. Very pleasant staff and service. I wished they had beef ribs today, but was told that they have them about once every other month or so and post it on their FB page. My daughter had the pulled pork sandwich which is humongous . My wife and I shared a 3 Meat platter: pork ribs, beef brisket and sweet sausage. Along with corn bread and coleslaw sides. Everything was delicious and didn't really need any sauce but gave them all a try. The spicy bbq sauce had too much of a jalapeño taste for me. Coleslaw was very good, but the cornbread was cold and didn't really have too much flavor. Overall experience was good. So good that we left our car keys in the car and had to call Pop-a-lock to save us. Dave's BBQ let us wait inside since it was raining as well today. Really nice people and look forward to next visit. Hope they have beef ribs and will also probably buy meat by the pound this time too. Thanks once again for helpers for pointing this place out. If you like your brisket with FAT then you will like it here. I got a three meat platter(comes with 2 sides) of brisket, pulled pork, spicy sausage, potato salad, and coleslaw. Half of the brisket was just fat. The pulled pork was nothing special, and the sausage wasn't even a tad spicy. The potato salad had too much of mustard that it gave a bitter taste, and the coleslaw had too much of dressing. By the time, I finished the platter, the grease was sitting in the bottom of the container and so was inside my belly. There is a way much better place in the area if you're on a "mission" for bbq. read more
