One word, well maybe two words "Just No". What a waste of a great location, not even the fact they are a chain it was just bad, really bad. The service, well we were sat on the second floor ( plenty of tables downstairs ) by the kitchen/service staircase... constantly bumped into by staff. Order a Common House Red Ale, got a Common House IPA not a great start. Ordered a dozen oysters raw "chilled". The oysters appeared to have been shucked in the early morning and left in a cooler all day to dry out. We did not get crackers, hot sauce, horseradish when served, we had to ask for them. Every pack of crackers were crushed, mat one single unbroken cracker. Order a half dozen "grilled", way, way too salty, we could not eat them. Ordered the Seared Tuna, just sad, looked almost like ground tuna. Too many other great Seafood places in Charleston to eat at someplace that reminded me of Captain D's or Arthur Treachers. Stopped in here for dinner after doing a little bar hopping and checking out downtown Charleston. After looking over the menu and the recommendations of our server, I settled on the Carolina Platter. The platter consist of steamed snow crab legs, a crab cake, grilled shrimp with collard greens and grits. The seafood on the platter was all correctly prepared and delicious. The collards and grits were good but otherwise unremarkable. The service was outstanding and our server was pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. My wife and I had a great lunch at this restaurant this past Saturday. On a beautiful sunny day in Charleston, we passed this place on our way down to the waterfront. The menu looked good so we made sure to stop here on our way back. There were open seats at the bar and March Madness was on TV so we sat down and ordered drinks. It's a nice menu here. We were looking for something light so we both ordered Crab Cake Sandwiches. I got mine with a side of Southern grits. The meals were excellent! Strong start. Then came the She-Crab Soup. Listen. That bowl went down faster than a burning ship in the harbor. Creamy, rich, layered, a little sherry whisper doing grown-folk things. Absolute fire. If you're debating whether to order it -- stop debating. Jen had been talking about Lowcountry Shrimp & Grits for days. You don't fly into Charleston and pivot to chicken tenders. The grits were creamy, shrimp cooked right, sauce bringing that savory coastal depth. She was locked in from first bite. As for me? Seafood à la Wappoo. Because you can't post up in a place like this and not order seafood. When the harbor's right there, you lean in. Oh my, so good! We didn't have any reservation but were able to get a table in 10-15 minutes. If you have a larger group I would suggested a reservation unless you are fine with waiting. The city market is across the street so you can walk through there while you wait. Oysters were very good! I didn't put any of the toppings on them as they tasted good just the way they were. The Po' Boy (shrimp) sandwich I ordered was better than the one I had yesterday at Pier 14 in Myrtle Beach! It wasn't as big, but the bread was slightly toasted and I added mayo. I was originally going to give this 3 stars but after I began writing, 2 stars seems more fitting. This place is the poster child of "just OK." The food is somewhat bland (out of 4 of us, one actually liked their meal while the rest of us were underwhelmed). Pros: location, easy to get seated, prices are decent (for DT Charleston) wait staff was good, drinks were good. Cons: primarily the food was bland. The host station was not running at its best either. We had a reservation and they told us they were "working on our table," and we should wait "under the stairs." Apparently "under the stairs" is also where they store napkins and supplies. We looked to our right and saw 3 empty and clean tables. After about 5 minutes of standing under the stairs, they sat us at one of those tables, which had not required any extra "getting ready." Just didn't sit well ( or stand well) with me. read more

Three of us ordered the blacken shrimp salad which was very tasty, however very little lettuce , cheese, and the shrimp were small. Salad was the size of a side salad. The Charleston Crab House on Market Street is a must-visit! I ordered the "Crab House Crab Pot," and it was absolutely delicious. It came piled high with Alaskan snow crab, Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, corn, smoked sausage, and potatoes--all simmered in garlic butter with Old Bay seasoning. Every bite was full of flavor, and it's the kind of dish you want to savor slowly because it's that good. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the service matched it perfectly. One of the best parts about this location is the convenience, you can do a little shopping at the Market either before or after your meal since the entrance is right there by the restaurant. All of my dreams came true. The Crab House Crab Pot was just what I was looking for. When I only have a short bit of time traveling through Charleston, I like to get a low country boil. But that was okay because I had good company and the waiter checked on us often. I had the oysters which were disgusting. They tasted muddy and had no saltiness. They were also dried out and stiff. Then I tried the mussels. They were good. I've had better but there was a great quantity. The bread with the mussels was tasty but a bit salty and I love salt on my food. The portions were generous and prices not outrageous...I think from $18-50 at our table. The steamer pits are proportioned so no substitutions. A lady at our table did not like mussels and they would not or could not substitute bc they were pre-packaged. But all in all it was good. Very laid back atmosphere.
