Decided to take the walk and visit this restaurant. Nice location in Charleston next to the famous pineapple fountain. We a bit of a wait but not too long. We decide to get a few things on the menu that people recommended. We tried the mussels which were plenty and great flavor. We would do the different next time. We would shuck all the mussels and then place the broth and the meat on the side of pasta and it would be a full meal. We tried the crab cakes bruschetta, the fried green tomato stack, the gumbo and the calamari. We always have to try the Caesar salad and it was very tasty. It's unfortunate that I have to share such a review. However, this is my experience and I'm sharing it in hopes it NEVER happens to another human. It was my dear sister's 50th birthday and we wanted to celebrate her by taking her out to any restaurant she wanted to try, she chose Fleet Landing. Turns out none of us has been. I called twice before arriving to ensure we were able to reserve a table and have dinner at 5 pm. We arrived about an hour and a half before dinner and I told the person greeting what our plans were also. She told us to find table and we could have the same table for dinner. The person who answered the phone and the greeter assured that it would not be an issue. We get there and it was great initially but it quickly turned for the worse. As we waited for dinner, we ordered appetizers and drinks from the bar. The bartender opened a tab and attached it to our table. He too knew we would be there for dinner because we told him when ordering. As we waited at the table enjoying our appetizers and drinks we noticed that servers were pacing and staring at us. It continued so many times that it made us wonder what was going on. I stopped the main waiter that I saw more times than the others to ask his name. His name is Steven. I then saw three others just pacing and watching us from one waiter booth to another. No one ever said a word to us. We noticed that the dinner customers were arriving and being seated. The booth directly behind us was seated but that waitress did not ask us anything nor did she offer a dinner menu. We then had to ask a waitress that just started her shift if we could get a dinner menu. The pacing and watching us continued. When the dinner menu was given to us, that waitress told us that she would get the waitress that is zoned for our table. It was the same waitress that seated the booth behind us. She came over and was friendly. We told her yes and because we have been there for over an hour (by choice) that we already had the opportunity to view the menu and knew what we wanted. She proceeded to take our orders. She left and came back to bring our bar tab check and said "the bar wanted to make sure you all don't forget your check". I then asked her how could we forget what we ordered. It didn't make sense and that's when it became very clear what the pacing and watching us was all about. I then proceeded to also tell her that we expected our bar tab and dinner to be on the same check. I proceeded to tell her that I called twice and spoke to the greeter at the door and the bartender in regard to what our plan was. Which was to come a bit early, get a few drinks and then eat dinner. We were celebrating a birthday. She told us that the bar and dinner has to be on separate checks and could not be combined. I told her that we were unaware and if we were told, we would have closed the tab at the bar before ordering dinner. We didn't expect to become suspicious because of this. Its absurd. We only left the table (never to use the restroom) to walk to the bar. The bar was a few steps away from our table. We could see the bar clearly and the bar could see us. We sat right in front of the bar. After our dinner arrived I asked for a manager; turns out the manager was one of the staff members that was pacing the floor and watching us. Ridiculous! He never greeted us. Zero hospitality nor were we given a warm welcoming smile from him or the waiters that were watching and pacing beforehand. I proceeded to express to the manager (Lenny) what we experienced. How we were being watched as if we were out of place or one would assume that we were watched as if we were going to "forget our check". Appalling, inhospitable, rude and unacceptable behavior from the manager and the staff. The manager seemed very nonchalant about it. I asked for a manager to bring awareness but his response was "uhhhh huh, uhhh huh, okay your waitress will turn this experience around". He never apologized. I immediately lost my appetite and requested the check and a box. I had traveled over 100 miles to partake in this celebratory dinner and the experience was not pleasant. I'm writing this review in hopes to bring awareness and hopefully inspire proper hospitality training. We are in the South. Manners will take one further than money. I am disgusted by how we were treated. We did not want nor did we ask for anything for free. It's the principle. We wanted to be treated like any paying customer. With dignity, respect and southern hospitality. I will note the manager attempted to make it better by giving the table free dessert in which I did decline but the birthday girl did accept. No one in our party has ever eaten here. This experience will mark the last. The appetizers were good, I had stuffed hush puppies and steak calamari, but the dinner was mediocre. The service is amazing in this restaurant. From the hostess to the servers. When we arrived there was a lot of people waiting. So we had a 30-40 min wait. It was well worth it! The bartender came over to where we were standing waiting to offer us a drink. Since I didn't want any alcohol he was kind enough to find another server who could recommend a mocktail. Busy place. The most recommended place for seafood. I guess it is one of the only waterfront restaurants as well. We sat at the bar outside, as the wait inside was long. Service started out good and went downhill the busier they got. We shared the wedge salad--really good, and the seafood pasta dish, which I really liked. My husband said it was "ok." They didn't have space for us, but offered to let us sit around the raw bar which was a really cool experience. We were in Charleston for 5 days and this was my favorite dining experience by far. We started off with the Chilled Blue Crab dip with crackers which the adults loved and devoured immediately. The guys got a dozen of the Perky Sea Cups oysters which were fantastic. I usually don't eat oysters, but loved these. I had the Blackened Triggerfish Sandwich which was flaky and perfectly grilled. Best entree of the trip. For dessert, we celebrated a birthday with the bread pudding. I'm not usually a big fan of bread pudding, but this was ridiculously good and I kept going back for more. As we were about to pay the bill, I saw the Sm'oysters on the menu and jokingly asked about them. Our waitress said that's what they're known for and that she's only had 1 person ever not like them. We ordered up 1 for each of the guys. They came out covered in crushed graham crackers, chocolate shavings, and honey fluff and were bruleed with a pastry torch. Went here yesterday, I have been here multiple times. Went to check in, was told initially 15-20 minutes for a part of 2, pretty typical. Not a horribly long line, but there's usually a wait. They hostess asked if we minded sitting at the raw bar, we said we would, so they sat us down immediately. I ordered a drink, the stuffed hush puppies, and the 2 course platter, flounder, and shrimp. Within probably 10 minutes the stuffed hush puppies came out, nice and hot. The drink was good, the cold bar staff were awesome, between shucking oysters, and prepping trays, they talked with us, were very cordial and polite. Our food came out, it of course was delicious. But the rice was one note, and the collard greens cooked into sour submission - Shrimp and grits: awesome gravy with a smoky lingering mouthfeel but cheapened by use of cheap sausage. The calamari was recommended and I was told they soak it in buttermilk but I still found it a little tough and chewy.
