We have use Dave's Catering for several of our parties. The food is delicious, well prepared, beautiful presentation, taste great, and a great variety to choose from. Their Chef Jen is amazing at what she does, as well as a fabulous bartender. This time we have Rebi as a bartender, her drinks were on point, and she is knowledgeable of her craft. All we can say is WOW! Dave and his crew just catered our wedding reception in Palm Springs and all of our guests were blown away. He was so easy to work with and made our selections so easy. Great service, yummy food. Had a teriffic experience with Dave when he catered our wedding in Malibu this August. We didn't have a wedding planner and did all of the organizing and coordinating ourselves so Dave's experience and calm demeanor was a huge help throughout the process. He had never worked at our venue so he scouted it ahead of time and gave us suggestions of how to layout the buffet and tables. He also walked us through options of what linens and tableware we'd need to rent and helped us help save money by telling us what we wouldn't need. After giving us a nice Sunday, poolside tasting with our mothers; we decided on a buffet and served appetizers during the cocktail hour. On top of all his help and experience, Dave's food is amazing. Our entrees were sliced filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu, and butternut squash lasagna. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasty (which is impressive when cooking for 100 people). The filet was medium rare with just enough pink in the center, the chicken was tender and had a good balance of ham and swiss, and the lasagna was such a hit that the groomsmen were eating the leftovers in the hotel lobby bar after the reception. The desserts were equally delicious, and his pastry chef made us an absolutely epic cake (see the pics) that my wife saw on Pintrest and fell in love with. The catering staff was professional and ninja-like; setting up, serving, pouring champagne, and clearing tables quickly and quietly. Since we missed most of the cocktail hour doing photos, they made sure that we had a plate of hors d'oeuvre waiting for us at our table. And they did the same thing with dessert because we were too busy talking and dancing. It was a nice touch on a whirlwind day. Overall, we got rave reviews about the food from friends and family and we could not have been more pleased with the service and food. Dave's catering was hired to feed the staff at my job. Unfortunately we learned "feeding" is a relative term. There are murderers and rapist sitting in prisons who are being fed better and more than us. Hyperbole? No sir. This is a catering company that had the audacity to put out a bowl of plain lettuce and call it a "Traditional Caesar Salad." And as for the portion sizes, they are fair but only if you are going by the standards set in communist labor camps. The staff is so rude and defensive that we are no longer allowed to talk to them. But to be fair they listened to our complaints went back to base and labored over a solution so out of the box that 100 chimps in a room for 100 years would have never came up with...Bigger plates smaller portions. read more

Dave's started catering my place of work at the beginning of January. The first two days were great, but then immediately took a nosedive. Every plate served since has been bland, filled with fancy names for food that usually tasted reheated. The meats are usually ok but with the small portion sizes you can hardly have a taste before it's gone. This is my opinion and experience. +Presentation +Staff "Attractive" "Don't be fooled by the good looks, once you dig in more than once...it is really not that good". Our company has been using this service for the past week and it has been bad. At first they seemed awesome, as I said it looked really good...but then the quality went down hill fast. -Portions sizes way to small -Servings were arbitrary.. either you got too little or none at all -Menu on a daily basis with no rhyme or reasons -Food was under cooked -Too much seafood and crustaceans -Staff "Bad Attitude and Rudeness" The thing that surprised me was that all the food seemed to be rationed, we were literally being served "ice cube" portions of food meant for neo-cuisine! My job was not some posh Beverly Hills place for such delicate and petite portions, you have hungry people who want food and not arte! The food seemed rushed as most of the things were not cooked, the asparagus was too raw, the meatloaf was too rare, the cakes were not fully cooked (center pieces were moist), the red potatoes were raw, the carne asada looked like left over meatloaf from the previous day, it was just bad in the long run. What was worse there were no safe options for me, as I am allergic to all things seafood. Not even the salad seemed safe, as they were rationing out that too.... so much for a meal. Our company in the past has always provided a descent meal, and due to this service I ended up spending over $50 to go elsewhere because of the seafood, under cooked portions, and people getting sick, and fear or retaliation from the catering service. I was really disappointed, since they made some dishes I wanted to try. Food is not only about nourishment, but it is a social and pleasurable experience, which they soured the past week with. I am sure that this service does a great job at a one time event, where they can take time in preparing an excellent menu.... and doing thing right. Dave was always available and responded right away any time I reached out to him leading up to the special day. HIs warm and casual attitude always put me at ease when something came up as they inevitably do! Not only did they do a great job with the food (people are still telling me how good it was months later) but he didn't bat an eye when I asked if his team would be able to help set up and break down the tables. He even offered to provide his own wine glasses so we could save on the rental contract. Our dinner service was family style and there was more than enough food. His staff was really on top of it, quick to bring the food out (we could barely keep up!) and never letting an empty dish sit too long. Last spring, at an auction fundraiser for a non-profit organization, I bid on - and won - a gift certificate for 4 dozen cupcakes from Dave's Catering. I'm a cupcake queen - or, at the very least, a cupcake princess - so I figured it was the perfect item for me. Fast forward to a year later. Naturally, the certificate had suffered the same fate that many items on my desk at home do: there it sat for 12 long months, collecting dust. When I realized that it was going to expire, I called Dave in a panic, figuring my time had run out. Not so. Calm, good-sense-of-humor-having Dave got back to me right away and extended the life of the gift certificate, saying that I could use it whenever I liked. Loved him for that. It gets better. Fast forward to my birthday in early May. Again, last-minute Melinda over here (that would be me) calls Dave three days before my party to ask, "Can I use the certificate for my party on Saturday?" Dave not only said, "Of COURSE!", he made 4 dozen mini cupcakes for me and my peeps, HAND-DELIVERED them to the restaurant where I was having my party, and put two in a box just for little old me. This is customer service at its best, people, and the cupcakes were UH-MAY-ZING. I give five stars to David Young, his baking, his service-oriented attitude, and his general good nature. Dave is somebody that you would want catering your EVERY event; he's professional, creative, and absolutely wonderful to work with! So the only thing I'm kinda grumpy about is that I can't give Dave more stars. We had our wedding this past weekend and holy good god, I can't count the number of people who came up to us and raved about the food. We had butternut squash lasagna, filet minion that came apart on the fork, garlic mashed potatoes, two salads, an amazing chicken cordon bleu.... everything was fantastic. The passed apps were also incredible (I got maybe three bites as the bride, but hey, three bites is better than none!) and for dessert we got cake pops that were insanely good. If you have Dave as your caterer, know that your food is gonna be loved by your guests and talked about long after your event is over. Dave was not only our caterer for our wedding but also our Day Of Coordinator (brides and grooms - listen carefully - he does both at the same time for no additional charge!) and he was ON IT. Everything about our wedding was perfect, spot on, and timed really well, while also being casual and relaxed (as one friend remarked: "This really is an asshole-less wedding!" And it was). We can't sing Dave's praises enough for getting all of our rentals (chairs, tables, linens, table settings) taken care of, handling the drinks, food, and appetizers, and then also showing up and keeping the wedding party organized and on schedule. He's just the freakin' bomb, and if you're engaged and don't have a caterer yet, GET HIM. NOW. I'm super serious. Dave is awesome and that's all there is to it. :) read more

Dave and his staff are beyond amazing! They catered our wedding in July 2016 in Downtown LA with full service and the night was amazing! We had Dave bring in his full staff, who were all so professional, doing apps, buffet style dinner for 200 guests plus vendors, and dessert. Dave was great to work with! From the start he treated us like family and you can tell he really puts his heart into his food! We had 200 guests and everyone keeps telling us how much they liked all the delicious food! We also had a very particular cake design that we wanted and he took care of it like a boss! How to begin....I am an event planner from Bakersfield, California, my client/friend had plans to be married in Glendora, so, what does one do? Yelp, of course! David was one of the few to even return a call, I had a menu and proposal within just a few days, and we were set to go. And then, how was it going to turn out? Totally strange area, unfamiliar circumstances, totally out of my element, and, no way to consider a plan B, without blowing up a modest budget. He did a great job in all areas and the event was a big success. We had a very snooty list of guests and all were happy with the food. Very rarely have I been vastly disappointed. This period of this past week marks the first time that this ever happened. This started yesterday. First of all, I will say they catered to my place of work last December. They were great! One of the women was friendly. Food was wonderful. Seafood cooked excellently. They were generous and gracious. I was looking forward to them catering. They seemed quite nice and put-together. Then January happened. At first there was a bit of chaos, which was odd as they were filling the same capacity as the other month. The portions got steadily smaller, and unfortunately, the staff got shorter-tempered. They had become demeaning - like we were piggy 1st graders. Also, it seemed like they served us at a snail's pace - unlike last month. So very few to very little people got seconds. Yesterday, one of the staff members was immensely rude to me. He was blond and had a blue cap on at times. Our line was the first line and when I got him, he asked me if I'd come through before when I had JUST given my line leader my ticket! The attitude was either if I was a pig or at least a sneak. Either way it did NOT sit well with me. Did they all of a sudden have a problem feeding people? There were no other women that looked anything else like me! I would think that they would have gotten the hang of it, as it seemed a good thing that we were eating their food happily before and with gusto. Oh yes, the meatloaf was barely a 1.5" X1.5" slice. They were slow as snails so second portions were hard to get as some lines had to go back. On top of that, they changed their menu last minute a few times. Withered fish sticks that might have been indicative of King Phillip II of Spain's impotence, and turkey. Weird combos. The things that they had put together so neatly the last month just fell apart. You know PU PU platters? This was a freaking FU FU platter to my co-workers and company. First of all was the ridiculously small portions of literally, 3 fries, 3 green beans, and a small withered slice of pork or a shriveled chicken "tender". I suppose there were seconds, but I somehow didn't think so. One co-worker found a hair baked in her chocolate cake. Later on, she vomited the lunch as it didn't take to her. Quite a few of my co-workers got sick. Normally, I go and happily eat the lunches that my company provides, but today I CHOSE to eat out as I couldn't stand their crap anymore. I didn't even want to touch their food, as they f*cked me off THAT badly. I think their shtick is, that they draw you in with a good impression like a seasoned user, then they just abuse you once they got you in. Either they got two very different business philosophies or someone just didn't give a sh*t. Either way, I would NEVER recommend them for that. If Dave does have the penchant for suing threats, I will treat it with the utmost respect like I do his food. I will throw it in the garbage, because there is absolutely no merit to them. read more

Hired Dave for a surprise party, he was pretty flexible & an upbeat guy, but beware the food is really medicore. We had chicken parm, spaghetti & meatballs, baked ziti - all covered with the same, pretty bland, red sauce (can't in good conscience call it marinara). Dave disappearred about 45 mins into the event and left no one behind who could communicate in English & they broke down dinner and the party 45 mins ahead of schedule... Not great communication & my attempts to do so after were met with "you were happy, right?" over & over again. Not super unhappy, but super meh. I'd gamble on something else. And if you're even a little bit of a foodie, don't do it. read more

Dave is experienced, imaginative, dependable and his staff is equally so. Everyone at Dave's Catering is trained on providing the best food and event experience possible. My favorite foods Dave created were his ahi tuna wonton crisp with wasabi mayo and his mini crab cakes with lemon aioli. Clients loved those as well as Dave's signature Italian pasta and meatballs, artichoke dip with endive and crostini with goat cheese, truffle honey, sun-dried apricots and cranberries.
