My husband and I were in the area on vacation and stopped here for breakfast. We were told there'd be a 15-20 minute wait, we said that was fine. Fifty minutes later we were still waiting and decided to leave and go elsewhere. Had we originally been told there'd be an hour wait, we wouldn't have stayed. I support mentally disabled people for work and today for lunch the 9 of us decided to go to Dave's diner in cazenovia. We all walk in and sit down and the lady comes over and gives us menus. The manager comes over and basically says to get out because a couple of the individuals brought their lunch but most of us were buying. They singled us out and made us feel like we were criminals. She didnt even say sorry for the inconvenience. Everyone watched us walk out. We had to have them pack up their lunch and leave and it made them very upset. I would not recommended this restaurant for people with food allergies. I have a dairy allergy and asked the waitress about the bread. She came back and said that it has eggs in it (not dairy...) and when I told her eggs weren't dairy she got flustered and said it still had dairy in it. I didn't feel comfortable ordering anything from the attitude of the waitress and when I said I didn't want anything she seemed perfectly happy with me going hungry while everyone else in my party ordered. I an a very picky eater, that barely even eats anything, but at Daves I just can't help it. Whenever I go I feel like part of the family. They have a variety of drinks for all ages. The service is wonderful. They are kind help full and make you feel like a princess. The food comes in big sizes but after trying it you might even finish your plate. Got here about 8:30 in the morning, sat down and another pair came in after us and was first to be helped in any way. Finally got a menu, the waitress was none too friendly and took forever to come back to take our order. When we did get the food it came in a quick manner, but the home fries were bland, my breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs was too wet, like the eggs were barely cooked, and the coffee was terrible. We were sat almost immediately but then waited over an hour to get our meal that we had ordered within the first 5-10 minutes. We attempted to get the waitress's attention but she would purposefully walk with her back to us facing empty tables as she walked by or turned face and went to the kitchen area when we tried to make eye contact. Finally we had to ask for a manager to find out what might be happening - still at this point just curious about our food and ready to eat what smelled and looked to be great on other people's tables. By the time the manager came over, the table next to us (who came in at least 30 minutes after us - and ordered more food than us) had their meals. We asked the manager what happened and pointed out a couple issues, and happened to bring up that the table next to us got their food in a timely manner. The next words out of his mouth was the breaking point that ruined the rest of the meal - he responded with "Oh, well I know them." So what... You have to know management to receive even decent service and two sandwiches in less than an hour?!? And what's more - the waitress & manager never apologized for any of it - although we were aware PART of the blame was the kitchen's. I was shocked and disappointed and while my food (although prepared incorrectly) was good - I will never dine there again and will caution others against it. Three of us had the "special" French toast, constructed of locally baked brioche dipped in Dave's proprietary egg wash. Four thick slices were dusted with confectionary sugar and served with choice of meat. A smallish syrup dispenser was shared, and when we plowed through that, another quickly took its place. The French toast was very filling and tasty. Our server was great - informative, friendly, attentive. It was a busy Saturday morning but we were seated and served quickly. First time here and was not disappointed! We came for breakfast. Came around 10am and waited maybe 15 mins, if not less. I ordered the French toast with bacon and eggs. DELICIOUS! My bf ordered home fries with eggs bacon, sausage and toast. Also delicious! This is a great spot for breakfast. Good selection of options and fairly inexpensive. The town is a nice area. Dave's is the place to go for breakfast in Cazenovia. They have awesome pecan Belgian waffles, good pancakes and ok eggs and hash browns. It is a favorite of locals especially over the weekend. I'm sorry but this place is a dump. The tables are sticky like they've never been washed and the floor is littered with crumbs and garbage from other customers. The food is a completely different story. I ordered eggs, toast and homefries. The 'over-easy' eggs I ordered had raw whites and yet, were brown and burnt on the outside. I'm not entirely sure how you manage that. The toast was cold and stale like it had been just sitting around all morning and the homefries were flavorless and lukewarm. They weren't even crisp! On top of this, when I asked if I could have a warm piece of toast, I was accosted by a disinterested owner who looked as though I had wronged him! Begrudgingly, I got my toast, but just wanted to leave at that point. I have over 15 years of restaurant experience and, all and all, I'm pretty forgiving of restaurant workers. But I just don't think that the conduct that I received at Dave's Diner is acceptable. Maybe some genuine interest and cooking lessons might not be such a bad idea for this place. read more

My sister was in from SC and we had our mom with us. We all got the seafood platter. Food was GREAT, service was fast and the place was crowded. Large portions, homemade coleslaw. This is a really nice place if you're into the diner thing. First impression walking in the door was friendly staff and clean restaurant. I ordered one of the specials for lunch that consisted of a spicy chicken sandwich and fries. The sandwich had chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, sautéed onions and mushrooms, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. While the concept of the sandwich was good I was disappointed in the chicken itself. It had no flavor at all and was as tough as shoe leather. Everything else in the sandwich was delicious and the combination would have been outstanding if the chicken wasn't so damn tough and tasteless. Every time I took a bite the chicken got pulled out of the sandwich so I ended up pulling it out and laying it on the plate and cutting it with a knife. Worked out much better this way. Even then I left about half of the chicken on my plate. The fries were delicious by the way. I would eat here again but next time I'll try something else. read more

I use a wheelchair. The tables are so close together you cannot navigate to tables easily. If busy they are point blank rude. Once I was told there would be over an hour wait for a table. There were empty tables and it was obvious they did not want to make other customers move. Pretty obvious they discriminate against people that use a wheelchair. They lost my business. read more

I was passing through Cazenovia this week around lunch time and made my stop here at Dave's Diner at Common Grounds. It was late lunch time and so there weren't too many people around, but there were a handful of tables being used. I sat at the bar and grabbed a paper. The servers are nice and friendly and she said breakfast was served all day in case I wanted that instead. Being that Fall has started, I ordered a hot apple cider to drink. Very delicious! Not too sweet, either. I had my eye on a couple dishes, but wanted the server to suggest a local favorite. One that I looked at was one she mentioned, so I opted for the Feta, olive, onion wrap. I think it was called the Athena. It had good flavor and the onions weren't so raw that they were crunchy. Side of fries and a pickle to boot. I thought the wrap was delicious. The tomatoes were just right and the flavors all melded together nicely. When they brought me my check, they brought it with a chocolate chip cookie! That was nice! I saw several local people talking to the owner/cook. There was a TV on, but the sound wasn't too loud. All in all, I think this place was great. I'd pass by again for sure. read more

I met my mother here for lunch as Cazenovia is the half-way point between our homes (150 miles apart). We always meet in town to kayak at the lake and walk main street, but we had never eaten at Dave's diner until our most recent trip. I'd give two and a half stars if I could. We've eaten here a few times for breakfast and have had roughly the same experiences. Yesterday, we stopped in and they were busy enough that there was a small wait, although nothing unreasonable. The main wait took place after we were seated. It took 15 minutes for any acknowledgement from wait staff. It would have been nice to have even a greeting and some water. The waitress finally came and took our order, and then we waited another ten minutes for water and drinks. I ordered the Texas Toast French Toast with a side of sausage and my wife had an omelet with Home Fries. The French Toast was fine, but I'm not sure they know what Texas Toast is. These just looked like regular bread and any Texan would have laughed at them. The sausages were EXTREMELY over done, and were more like charcoal briquettes than breakfast meat. But of course no waitress was in sight so I just ate them. I suspect that they cook large amounts and then just keep them to the side of the grill to use as needed, but these must have been on there too long (or, if cooked to order the cook REALLY needs to pay closer attention). My wife's omelet looked delicious and she said it was very good. All in all, I kind of doubt we'll be back. There are better places within walking distance. read more

We have been to Daves Diner several times. We live locally. There has always been an issue with cleanliness is: the rest rooms are filthy, ketchup bottles have black sludge encrusted around the inside ( they have since switched to different type of bottle) . The last time we went it was one half hour until closing time the waitress told us that she would gladly serve us so we sat down and both ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. Obviously the cook at the grill had a big problem with this he glared at us and mouthed the word b*tch to me and continued to turn and glare angrily throughout the cooking process. He handled the mop bucket and mop with his plastic food handlers gloves on and then Handled our food with same dirty gloves. Kept looking at us to make sure we were watching he was obviously very irritated that people had come in and ordered when he had decided it was time for him to cleanup and go home. As the sandwiches were finishing on grill he loudly coughed on them without covering his mouth. It was completely disgusting to watch his lack of cleanliness and rude glares. We finally decided to tell waitress that we would take food with us. She was very nice. She gave us our bag of food and we left. We were so disgusted we threw the food out in the nearest garbage can. We will never go back to Daves Diner. read more
