The chicken is delicious, juicy and can be customized depending on your heat preferences. This is specifically important for people like myself who enjoy some spice but not a whole lot. It can become difficult at these chicken spots finding a spice level that is tasty and spicy enough but not too much and not too little. This spot makes this easy with the spice level options. New hot chicken place opens in Denver that's based on Cali of course it has all the hype, and frankly I'm not surprised haha. Yes multiple people mentioned it to me, knowing I'm the chicken sandwich obsessed person I am, lol; so naturally I couldn't wait to try it!!! Finally went in this weekend and even though it was pouring in denver still packed although I think if the sun was shining it would have been ten times worse. Went with the chicken slides; one hot and one extra hot. I have to say, the extra hot had some heat but it seemed more like a hot if you ask me. I wasn't crying or had my mouth on fire, just a nice pleasant spice. I think that's partially who I removed a star; how can you have an extra hot that doesn't at least have you shed a single tear?!? Definitely going back to try the next level up, so stay tuned! Chicken was wonderful; crispy with a nice crust and oh so juicy on the inside. I brought Alfie home a combo number 3 with a slider and tender and also got him an extra tender, I guess he wasn't as hungry as I suspected so he saved the lone tender and even reheated the next day, still bomb AF. Love the Kale slaw on the sandwiches, in fact out of my recent hot chicken experiences I would go so far as to say this has been my favorite slaw so far. Interesting option to add some cheese, but absolutely do it! It adds a nice flavor component that I was totally not mad about. I would do it again. Fries were good, crinkle cut and nice and crispy. I will say the Mac was lacking, also something that factored into the 4 out of 5 stars. It was fairly bland and I probably wouldn't order it again. Although let me tell you; I have tended to notice that the Mac generally is bland at hot chicken places and I'm almost wondering if that is done on purpose? I came here on a Saturday early evening. There wasn't much of a line at the time and was able to order in less than 5 minutes of waiting. There are 3 combo items to choose from. I ordered the chicken tenders combo in mild spice. It came with fries, bread, sauce. I also got a side of mac and cheese. After I finished eating, there was quite a long line out the door. Likes: chicken was juicy and tender, fries had a good crunch, multiple spice level options Dislikes: the dry rub had too much cumin for my liking, $12 is high for two chicken tenders and two slices of wonder bread compared to similar restaurants. Wow! Denver opens its first HALAL hot chicken joint! I heard about Dave's Hot Chicken while living here in Denver for school. My family and friends in Los Angeles would tell me stories of this amazing fully halal Nashville hot chicken shop in downtown LA that always had a line out the door. So when I went home to visit, Dave's was on the top of my list of things to do. I definitely heard they were growing and growing in popularity, planning on expanding, but never did I imagine one would open up in Denver! The Denver location is on Broadway, across the street from Voodoo Doughnuts and Insomnia Cookies, great places to grab dessert after scorching your mouth with their delicious and succulent hot chicken! So the menu is very basic: tenders or sliders. They do a really good chicken tender, it has the perfect combination of juicy, crunchy and flavor. The sliders are basically a tender sandwiched between buns with some slaw. I generally prefer the TWO TENDER COMBO WITH FRIES EXTRA HOT. I'm not a fan of the sliders; the sliders tend to be more messy, and I would much rather choose my carb pairing to be fries, instead of their buns which are rather unmemorable. IT MUST BE SAID that the spice level here is out of this world. Compared to every hot chicken shop I've been to in Denver , this place offers by far the widest range of spice levels. I like to think I have a relatively high spice tolerance, and order the highest spice level at other chicken shops such as Budlong's and Birdcall, however, I can only handle the EXTRA HOT. For those who are up for a challenge, their spiciest offering is the REAPER. Just got this a few minutes ago. It's OK. It really is spicy. I got mine HOT and I wouldn't want it any hotter than that. If you come from a place that isn't know for spicy food, you'll probably want to go with medium or lower for the hotness. The French fries were cooked very well, however, they had too much salt. I recently visited that chicken tender place that they advertise on the TV all the time, Raising Cane's, and I really liked their fries because they tasted like potatoes and were lightly salted. Unfortunately, Dave's makes the same mistake most restaurants make, and puts too much salt on their fries. Also, I never understood the whole slices of plain white bread thing. They are just slices of bread, not toasted or anything. I don't get it. At Raising Cane's, at least it is Texas toast, grilled an buttered. So, in closing, Dave's was OK. They have a nice seating area and decoration. The food came out fast (much faster than Raising Cane's, but that's another story). You can choose your spice level, and it can be really hot. But, it sits kinda heavy in the stomach, and it's kinda over salted and over seasoned, but at least the chicken was still juicy and tender. I ate it, but I probably won't get it again. read more
