I got 4 chicken strips (2 medium and 2 hot) with cheese fries and mac & cheese. Overall, everything was pretty good. Their spice levels seem true to what they advertise. The medium felt closer to a mild, while the hot had a nice little kick to it. The seasoning on the chicken was a bit uneven, with some bites a little bland while others were well seasoned. That said, the chicken itself was juicy and crispy. Dave's sauce was really good. The Reaper Ranch was decent, but Dave's sauce is the one to go with. The fries were crispy and nicely seasoned, and the mac & cheese was creamy, cheesy, and flavorful. I had the hot level spice on the tenders, but probably should have gotten hotter since it was pretty mild. There's a self serve order or you can ask the cashier what you want. Since it was our first time, we spoke to Jaime who really broke items of the menu for us. There's no real benefit if you wanna order Dave's #1-4. I opted for #3 so I can try with and without the bun. I got Mild for the tender, and Medium for the slider. They offered extra sauce packets on the side. I thought the Medium spicy was less spicy than the mild maybe cuz of the burger ingredients made it less spicy?? The tender is pretty big. The spice is dry spice that is patted on to the tender. The plain tender came with a plain white bread. If you want a wet spice, you have to order Lite Spice so the powdered spice is mixed with oil. I didn't try this but that's what Jaime said. My boyfriend go the Reaper. He had to sign a waiver. He said it was spicy but not like how he imagined. It's just more powder spice than other level spices. It's basically packed with more dry powder spice on the chicken. It's not a lingering spice you typically would experience. It's spicy but it goes away quickly. The fries that came with the combo is too salty. Way too salty. Doesn't taste good at all, I drank so much water just to get rid of the seasoned salt that covered the fries. I like the Canes fries better. In addition, all the combo doesn't include any drink. When I calmly brought this to their attention, my concerns were completely brushed off. I later reached out to corporate hoping someone would take this seriously. Sticking to a time honored practice honed by four yrs and nearly 200 reviews, I ordered their "money maker," i.e., the item that vaulted Dave's from overnight food truck sensation into a media darling and bona fide rival to Chik-Fil-A: Their hot chicken sliders, featuring near-burgundied chicken breast lacquered to a glossy shine with its medium heat rating, accompanied with crinkle-cut fries snowed with seasoned salt. The sliders are served on what I am pretty sure are Hawaiian bread burger buns- TERRIFIC choice since the doughy sweetness absorbs a bit of the heat. My choice of medium heat was perfect for meeeeh, but again I'm the acknowledged lightweight in a family that routinely inhales homemade salsas made from garden-grown habaneros. I probably could've handled their hot selection, but since I didn't tow my antacids with me...why tempt fate?! The crinkle cut fries are...spectacular. Quintessentially crunchy, served piping hot and dusted with seasoning salt. The kale slaw, which I ordered on the side, is good but since they only gave me one spoonful...hardly enough to form a strong opinion. DHC does good, steady business, as evidenced by how the dining room was at least half-occupied during the entirety of my one hour visit. So- If they're a "bona fide contender with Chik-Fil-A" for the casual dining chicken crown, then why not accord them five stars? My caveats: Multiple of the dining tables are unstable. So much so, that it was only my former athlete reflexes that kept my 40oz drink from tumbling off the table when it bounced! To my chagrin, two other of the small dining tables had the same issue. Memo to DHC- Consider stabilizing your tables so they're not as bouncy as a bounce house at one of my kid's parties of yore! Not to mention the possible fall risk, for elderly or less-able bodied guests. The restrooms were a letdown. Grafitti sprawled on the walls and sink, with multiple cracks in the floor. The chicken slider was savory, tender, & crispy; along with the fries. The cauliflower slider was flavorful, crispy and juicy on the inside! Arrived around 8:00pm with no line, got served in about 15min but they were noticeably busy with to go orders, which is understandable. There is plenty of indoor seating.
