I want to start with the gal waiting on us was so sweet. She did her very very best to keep us happy. We arrived to order 3 lunch specials. Delivery drivers were arriving so she said she would bring us our salads, soup and ice tea as soon as she finished with them. We were fine with that. A bit later she brought us our items and said the sandwiches would be out soon. We ate the salads and soup - which were very good, and finished our drinks. After 45 minutes of waiting on the rest of our lunch (on our 1 hour lunch break) i went up to the counter and asked about the status. She again apologized. I told her she was fine - we would just need them to go, as we had to get back to work. It appeared that the guy in the kitchen was having problems and that was the delay. They were the only 2 people there working. After another 15 minutes I asked again what the status was - she apologized again - and i felt so bad for her. She really was trying to keep it all together. The guy cooking finally brought out the sandwiches - and was getting ready to give them to someone else. He really was having a hard time. She was super nice and sweet and gave us cards for a free lunch. I advised her to just relax and know that she did a great job and when she got off work to go enjoy the sounds and smells of the beach. It always helps me after a rough day. I got back to work to eat my sandwich - which by then the bottom bread was soggy.... so i just ate the top piece and the filling. It was good, but did need a sauce of some sort. I will return - but not on a lunch hour day. I hope the gal was able to get out to the beach and know that she is super awesome. To the owners - please give this girl kudos for hanging in there and smiling the entire time she was dealing with chaos. She is a gem and i hope that she had a better evening. read more

Oh goodness, what a quality place. Owners, staff, food. I lived in NYC a decade, and had traveled in Italy a fair bit. When I moved to Seattle in 2002 I tried all pizza I could find and basically gave up on west coast pizza about 2005; just nothing could compare. This place made me realize some artisans are out there plying their trade; don't give up. I spent a few days in Coos Bay as a base of ops to hit the dunes, boat on Tenmile lake, run down to the Redwoods a day in order to take my step-kids on a post-Covid/pre-online school (nightmare) break. I was walking my dog from the motel and spied their sign down a dark street, behind a welding gas shop, blocks away from any other walk-in businesses. Which raised my interest - how does a business survive where it actually should not? Usually because they rock something no one else can, that's why. Hmm... I googled the name and got their back-story about their long run in North Bend, the fire, re-birth (see what I did there?) in Coos Bay and I knew I had to visit before leaving. I am so glad I did. We walked in the next night, from out of state and unaware of the Oregon-mandated Covid nonsense. The co-owner (Teresa, Dave's wife) had to scold us - and she was pained to do so, clearly - about the political rules surrounding eating food in public in Oregon currently. Now, to allay the nay-sayers, I did go to the University of Washington School of Medicine, and have a lot of graduate hours in microbiology, virology, immunology, and epidemiology. I am fully aware of how nonsense all the Covid-19 health rules are. Anyway, this was a good thing in the overall experience with Dave's (and Teresa's). Teresa gave us special attention because she felt guilty, simply for doing what she was legally required to do, but what to her felt wrong and inhospitable. A massive sign of someone who cares. I never met Dave, but he put together a pie that I have not had the likes of since before the Twin Towers fell (I left NYC around then, I used to work in 1 WTC so I can date this well). The crust was beyond reproach. Every ingredient was distinctly tasted - no over-power from the copious olives (fresh and delicious), sausage, pepperoni, etc. Each one main ingredient, and each spice, stood out. But it announced itself, played it's role, then allowed others to shine. Like a great band or your best XXXX XXXXX XXX XXXXX. Oh yeah. (oops, sorry, some adult reference I should have avoided). Teresa brought out as a house bonus her garlic herb-bread and Dave's marinara sauce. Amazing. I'm a cook myself (amateur, but serious). I could appreciate the work, talent, and love that went into those items, as well. This was one of the best dining experiences I've had - London, NYC, New Orleans, SF, LA, Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Geneva, Rome, Milan, Bologna, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Madras, Bali, etc. I loved their food and their ethic of service and quality. It clearly comes from the heart and not a false front. I enjoyed my time in Coos Bay and that area, but this was just a gem; best pizza I have ever had on the west coast. Period. read more

This hole in the wall was the bomb! So glad we checked it out after another restaurant didn't have a table to seat us. We ordered calzones and our daughter got the strawberry lemonade. So yummy! Service was excellent. They were all great. I would just say make sure you lock your car up. Amazing service, and they have been perfecting their food since 1971 and it shows. This was our third try for dinner on a trip to Coos Bay, and the third stop was the charm for sure. I had he weirdest conversation with a manager I have ever had in my life. We received a large pizza that was so thin you could see through it. It was also more like the size of a small pizza, about 4 large slices. When I told him this, he said all of their pizzas were thin crust.I told him I had been coming there for years and NEVER got a thin sliced pizza. He then told me if I wanted a large I need to call 2 days in advance to make sure the dough was prepared. i actually had to ask him to repeat that because I couldn't believe my ears. He never apologized and never offered refund or comp or anything. It is the MOST EXPENSIVE pizza around but i think they have the best crust in the city hands down! Just a couple issues, if you call for a pizza and its near closing, they just tell you they are closed. If you are open till 9pm, then you should take orders until 8:59 pm, that's pretty basic, not answer the phone saying sorry, we are closed at 8:50. The only other thing i would add is about 20% more cheese especially at these prices. This is probably the least cheesy pizza in the area, maybe lighten up a little on the toppings to adjust for the cheese cost because they really do use a generous potion of toppings. read more

We got a Combo & a Hawaiian -the Mediums are loaded with toppings & for mediums they both had generous portions. (Sorry no Hawaiian pic we got it the time B4 & gobbled it up before pics lol) Now onto the Pesto ... OMG does this place know how to do an amazing pesto!!! Would give it zero stars, but it won't allow that. Yesterday evening I attempted to buy 2 gluten free medium pizzas. They only had one, so I settled for one medium two small, I was shocked at the price, $76.00, but we were hungry and I let it go. Then the guy tells me he's sorry their pizzas are so expensive, he claims they've mentioned this to the owner who dioes not agree with his staff. Then we discover they "broke" 9ne of the small ones, but insisted on charging me full price with a coupon for one medium pizza I had had enough by then, I asked for my money back, which after some discussion they agreed to, but showed obvious hostility. I have only ordered pizza from Dave's Pizza - and it's where I go for my pizza needs. Good variety on the menu and requested additions and deletions to the standard items are happily made. They aren't stingy with the toppings. You can partake of a mug of local brew while you wait... Not much in the way of atmosphere but I never thought such was particularly important in a pizza joint anyway. read more

Dave's is back... Pizza is still good. Quality ingredients, good crust. Not gourmet foodie pizza but a great pie to share with the family or team. The location is a little off the main drag so we have to keep reminding ourselves that it is there. We usually order on the phone and pick it up to go so I can't report on wait times (pretty quick for pickup... 20 minutes). These folks are great! I am just visiting the area but they were very helpful with directions and helped me order ahead so it would be ready when I got there for pickup. The lady made sure I had plates, napkins, and everything I needed as I was in a hotel. However best of all was the pizza! Some of the best pizza I have had in a long time!! The way pizza should be!! I went yesterday with my boyfriend after not visiting for a year, they replaced all the cooks with what looked like teenage boys who really didn't give a shit about their jobs. Here's the break down: We came in, it was a bit busy, but after we sat down and ordered pretty much everyone left. 3 other groups came in a little behind us, and they all got their food before we did. Is it not supposed to be given in the order it's received?! What is that! He had to go up to the counter and say hey, why is everyone who came in way behind us getting their food and were waiting for a half hour??? To which they promptly handed us a BURNED pizza. And I don't mean crispy I mean HARD AS A ROCK, BLACK, INEDIBLE BURNT PIZZA. He had ordered the hot wings also, and they came out black. My cheese sticks? Exploded, hollow breading. Quite possibly the best pizza I have ever had!!! I have been on a life long quest to find the perfect pizza and often disappointed when trying new pizzerias. Found Dave's while staying in Coos Bay on vacation, was pleasantly surprised by the speedy delivery and even more surprised when the pizza arrived. I love everything about their pizza. We ordered a 5 Meat pizza (medium) and it was very good. There was no grease, and it was still warm and took very little time to get it after we ordered. The medium had 8 slices and between the three out of five of us there was still a slice left. Two of us had the french dip, and it was excellent. The sandwich was very warm and the dip was in excellent flavor. Not to hot nor was it to cold. Service was good, the lady/manager was very lively. Kept cracking jokes and being very friendly. All in all a good service, only reason why it has a 4/5 was because of the cleanliness of the tables, there wasn't a lot of workers and many tables were unclean. We were visiting the coast on a Sunday and Dave's had decent reviews while also being one of a few restaurants that was actually open on Sunday. Coos Bay seems to have very few restaurants open Sunday's. Anyway, they're tucked behind a block or so of automotive places and it's an older building but there are two sections to the place so it's a lot bigger than it initially seems. The salad bar is small but looked good. We ordered the garlic cheese bread and a couple pizzas. The bread is good but too much bread to be great. The pizza was good, but had a large amount of cheese and sauce. I usually love sauce but this was too much. They have a row of video/claw games and a couple horses kids can ride. The downside being that this kid zone is right next to all the seating, there's no separation. The staff was very nice and we were served quickly. Maybe it was the age of the building but it was super hot in the restaurant when we went. read more
