They have the best food in this area for Chinese. Take out or eat there. We've enjoyed it for years.

They delivered promptly. The food was still very hot when delivered. They were careful regarding allergies. Tasted great, would order again.

My family and I have been ordering from here for ages and the food was always consistent, no frills Chinese food. We live in the area and this was the place to go for Chinese food before all these other little Asian Fusion places began opening up. However they are really due for a renovation inside!!! Oh and also one night after ordering take-out a cockroach ran out of the bag full of food and it totally grossed me out! I never called the restaurant to complain just threw all the food in the garbage. :( read more

David Chen is a stand alone restaurant that offers a traditional Chinese menu We were warmly greeted by the friendly staff who showed us to a nice table We ordered chicken with mixed vegetables and moo shu chicken Both were delicious with generous portions of chicken and vegetables. Went back after a long absence and was delighted. While Cantonese restaurants are like Jewish delis and disappearing from the scene this place forges on. While the cuisine will probably always be a staple of take-out Chinese places the restaurants are dwindling. We had their house special soup with vegetables, shrimp and chicken in a clear broth. Then spare ribs, still probably the best w/o the obligatory painted char siu sauce to give the ribs some flavor. You can tell these ribs are slowly roasted to perfection by a master. Again we returned to Seven Stars & a Moon, a fantastic melange of beef, roast pork, chicken and shellfish, still a wonderful main dish for up to 4 persons. There menu is so extensive and they will accommodate any special requests. David & Suzie are still there many years later looking no different then when we first discovered the restaurant some 30 years ago. The place has a history. read more

I don't know why this place has three stars. I have lived in Armonk all my life and I have always eaten here. They always deliver with good food. The lunch special is the best. It's lower price and comes with the choice of any rice, soup or soda. Generous portions too. My favorite dish is Paradise Chicken and they don't have it at any other Chinese place as simple as it is. I've been frequenting David Chen's for decades. They have a long and positive history in their current location. But over time, my observation is that this business has truly declined. I ordered takeout yesterday, and as I have observed in the past, there are a number of things that have become a real turn off. First, despite the dining room interior being well maintained, the rest of the building is basically dirty and falling apart. The goldfish pond outside looks like an open cesspool, tiles falling off the walls and steps, the chinese cooks may be seen mostly sitting outside on crates around the filthy dumpster, smoking cigarettes, the outside property is not kept clean, and lacks any and all maintenance. There are big open holes dug around the foundation, there is trash lying about, and they don't even cut the grass. The old couple at the front desk don't even take the time to acknowledge you, the older chinese woman walks around throwing boxes (this is the one who takes the phone orders, who sounds like the receptionist at a prison switchboard), the old man sits at the desk, slurping his food, watching TV on his hand-held device, not even taking time to look up at the customer from the rim of his food bowl. The front desk area is cluttered with junk, etc. Apply here, the old addage about restaurants: If this is what the owner allows the customer to see, imagine what the areas look like that the customer can't see. Now, let's talk about the menu. It has remained a constant over the years in terms of offerings, but the prices have gone off the charts. Now takeout menu entrees are running $20, $25, $30. The food quality has declined, being mostly greasy and subpar from what it used to be. I have ordered 'Chef Specials' that advertise lobster meat (at a hefty price), and guess what?, no lobster to be found in my dish. Add up everything I describe here and the end result is extreme disapointment. So, while people may continue to leave '5-star' reviews and continue to frequent David Chen's, I think after many decades of my patronage, I'm out. Time to find another Chinese restaurant. I look at this place and say if the owners want to continue to run the business, they need to 'get with it', or shutter the doors and go home. read more

Ate there today and the food was terrible. Very bland & no flavor. We were charged $3- extra for each luncheon dish compared to take out. Since when is takeout lower than eat-in ??????????? The prices were outrageous compared to Central Seafood on Central Avenue. Today we paid $26.90 for two luncheon dishes that would be $16- at Central Seafood. At central seafood we would of paid $28.90 for the same dishes for dinner. Outrageous. This people will not be in business long selling this kind of food and charging these prices. read more

It has been written, this is the best Chinese food in Westchester. I don't doubt it for a moment. Kinda like being the tallest dwarf in town. While the ingredients (copious amounts of carrots and celery) seemed fresh, the three dishes we had were remarkable in only one way. Absolutely no flavor. None. Not entirely clear how one would achieve this, even if it was the desired outcome. If you think The Olive Garden is fine Italian fare, then this is the Chinese restaurant for you. read more

The staff at David Chen are very friendly and courteous. My husband and his parents have been going there for years, and now I go with them. Susie, who I believe is one of the managers, always remembers us. What really impresses me, though, is that she even remembers my food allergies. It is pretty remarkable to find a Chinese restaurant that can deal gracefully with allergies to soy and wheat, let alone one where you do not have to remind them of your allergies each time you visit! The food is very good. The Chow Fun is particularly yummy, and there is a dish that my husband loves to get with three different kinds of chicken. Skip dessert, though. They only have ice cream, and it's the kind that comes complete with big chunks of ice. Best to fill up on dinner food instead! :) read more

My family creates bonds with restaurants, and a sense of loyalty is created with said establishments. Yet, David Chen was not my family's restaurant. We frequented another restaurant, about as far away from our Chappaqua home, in Thornwood. We ate at/ordered from that restaurant so much that we to this day still have a 10% "VIP Discount" for being such loyal customers. The loyalty however, is give and take. The restaurant discussed above has changed names, owners, and chefs, and the quality of the food has nose-dived. So, on a recent excursion, my parents and I decided to seek other Chinese food options in Northern Westchester. And our eyes immediately sought David Chen's, an established restaurant, with a stellar record and many loyal fans. Our trip to David Chen's did not disappoint. Though things did not start off on the best foot. Upon being seated, we were given noodle chips, water, and tea. The tea was lukewarm at best, so we asked for it to be heated. The noodle chips were a disappointing stale. But I ate them anyway. As I thumbed through the menu trying to decide whether or not to get my usual all-American Sesame Chicken or to try something new, my eyes fixated on an enticing dish called "Ten Ingredient Wonton." It had roast pork, shrimp, chicken, mixed vegetables plus yes, wontons, sauteed in the house special brown sauce. My mouth watered as I ordered. The dish was great. All the meat was fresh, the brown sauce was tangy and delightful, and the wontons were soft and delectable. My father ordered tofu and mixed vegetables with garlic sauce, which he enjoyed. He remarked "the tofu is very fresh!" My mother ordered bok choi with shrimp which she did not enjoy. I concurred with her: I felt the dish was very bland. The lot of us were also impressed with the large portions and the plentiful amount of brown and white rice that accompanied our meals. After literally 20+ years of Chinese food loyalty in Thornwood, we are not ready yet to make such a commitment to another Northern Westchester restaurant until we give some others a try. But no doubt David Chen's will be a great contender in the race! read more

So I was told I had to go to this place. It was in fact very good. The dumplings were superb. Huge, tasty and wonderful. I also had the General Tso chicken. Nice spice to it, not overbearing. The chicken was fried to a golden and not overdone. They also gave us a small plate of ice cream to finish off the meal. All in all this place was really good. Best local Chinese. All the expected dishes and very well organized take out. David Chen's goes beyond that, though. Special dishes include seasonal takes on asparagus, varieties of poultry according to season and consistently good service. I like the sesame chicken alot, and have ordered take out often enough that they recognize my voice and ask about size of portions rather than what I want. I rarely choose to eat at the restaurant, because it is often crowded on the weekend, but have scheduled events in the downstairs dining room and they provide good value. The building itself, as well as the interior, is meant to suggest Chinese design, and there are lots of diverting things to look at while dining, including amazingly clean fish tanks. For me, though, it is the take out place to order from on the way home. Just so happens that the timing of leaving my office, picking up and arriving home works perfectly. read more

The restaurant looks nice from the outside, but once you walk in it's not what you expected at all. First it started when I was trying to order my food, the man was rushing me & snatch the menu right out of my hand. Second, my mother ordered vegetable lo-Mein & when he brought it out the noodles were literally hanging off the plate. So those noodles were touching god knows what. And Thirdly, to add a cherry on top I asked for a bowl of brown rice and when he put it down.. A BUG LITERALLY JUMPED OUT onto my soup!! I'm always up for trying somewhere new, so I was interested in trying David Chen since I had heard good things about it. After leaving, I found the experience to be just okay. It's typical American Chinese food, nothing too special. We dined in the restaurant which was pretty nicely decorated. Service was okay as well. It was just two of us in our party so we split and entree (smart move because portions are big). Been going here for years. Have eaten in and done take out as well. Have always had good experiences and found the food to be very good as well. The staff is always friendly. Went there this past weekend and got take out. The staff still friendly and courteous, no problem there. The food though was pretty bad and very expensive. Two dishes cost $48! I ordered General TSOs seafood. Never had it before but I love General TSOs chicken. I was expecting something similar. What I got was nothing like that. The portion size was good but the seafood was steamed not coated and deep fried like the chicken is. The sauce was a very thin brownish sauce that had absolutely no taste. For a $29 dish, it was an extreme disappointment. Nothing at all like what I expected. My other dish was a bit better but nothing to write home about. It is too bad that the quality of this place has been declining. With the prices as high as they are as well, its not a place I think we will be going back to anytime soon. read more

Good American-Chinese food. Old school fun atmosphere. The portions are huge and consistantly good. The dumplings are giant and tasty (both pork and veg are yummo). Tasty lo mein, general tso's chicken, 10 ingredient wantons (unique and delish), sauteed baby bokchoi with prawns (my fav ;-)). If you want amazing real deal Chinese food go to Chinatown or Flushing but if you live in Westchester this is a nice place to go. If it is your birthday the waiter will sing a rendition of Happy Birthday that will have you smiling ;) Dining in you'll have a pleasant experience. They're fine for takeout as well. But over the course of two years, the service has become poorer, the driver often rude and impatient, and the quality of the food has decreased, often overly greasy and flavorless. They have twice made mistakes in orders, and never offer refunds, and only once fixed it. We went on the suggestion of some friends. Never heard of it before. We pulled up and the building was very unique. The inside ambiance is a tad dated but comfortable and has tons of fish tanks for kids to enjoy. The food is standard American style with nice portions, flavors and prices. In our opinion the best Chinese place in the Greenwich area. We are done with the rest of the Chinese and/or Asian Fusion places around. We absolutely loved it and no MSG feeling later.
