The chef & owner of this trailer is great. I asked for some suggestions on what to order and he made some solid recommendations. I ended up ordering the bagel with lox on an everything bagel. It was very tasty! They were sold out of most other bagels since it was ACL weekend. Price point for the bagel with the lox was pretty steep but I ate every bite of it so I really can't complain. I'm a New Yorker so I'm pretty picky with my bagels. When I eat here next, I will order a bagel with nothing on it so I can get a better idea of how tasty just the bagel is. David's truck is phenomenal and it's clear the quality of the grains used for the bagels...they're fluffy, solid and compliment the cream cheese so well! BTW, the cc schmear mimics the layers of pastrami from Katz's Delicatessen in NYC. It's a lot, and it all works and is very tasty. I just moved to Austin from Philly and I have been itching to find a bagel place as good as the bread we have back home. I kept seeing this spot so I finally got to try it. I got an eveything bagel sandwich with Barbacoa. The owner recommended their green sauce which I was happy he did. It was pretty good! I'd prob rate it a 7.5/10. The meat felt a little dry so the sauce added some flavor. I'd come back to try the lox as I'm super curious how the fish is here. Overall not a bad spot. read more

My husband and I have tried many bagels around Austin, and took the opportunity to give David's a try this morning. I got to meet Dave himself at the truck in East Austin, and he kindly talked me through the menu and where/how they source their ingredients. I ordered their ET bagel, one with vegan cream cheese and one with plain. The cashew cream cheese is fresh, and the bagel was served open faced so the VCC doesn't melt and spill off the sides of the bagel. The bagel itself had a soft inside, and toasted perfectly. Just enough ET seasoning. You can feel and taste the love they put into the food they make. We will certainly be back read more

Came yesterday for the first time and ordered the chipotle cheddar with regular cream cheese and my husband ordered the barbacoa sandwich. DELICIOUS! The bagel is toasted perfectly, it's the perfect amount of dough, the flavor is wonderful. Even the cream cheese felt fresh and tasted delicious. I loved it so much I just came again today and had the bacon sandwich and also ordered the rye bagel with honey butter and strawberry jam. All super delicious. I moved to Houston from New England 5 years ago. By comparison, Houston is a sandwich desert so when I travel through Texas for work, I do my best to track down the best breads and grinders in town. Last week, as I started my trip home from Austin, I popped by David Doughie's to grab a bagel for the road. I was skeptical to say the least. Bagels have been a particular failure across the Texas cities, but this place is the oasis I've been looking for. It's a simple menu: 5 or so bagels, a breakfast sandy, pastrami, a vegan option, and a classic bagel with schmear, capers, onions, and cured salmon. I got the salmon on an everything and my single regret is waiting until I'd already driven 30 minutes to take my first bite. Had I not waited I would have grabbed a dozen to bring home. These might be the best I've ever had without the smell of the Atlantic Ocean in the air. The bagel was chewy but soft to bite with a pleasant, crispy crust to give it structure. The everything seasoning was balanced and, most importantly, the onion and garlic weren't burnt and bitter the way so many others turn out to be. The balance of cream cheese and toppings were easy enough to eat without a significant mess and spread as such so it could be eaten as a closed sandwich or open face. To top it off, service was approachable and friendly. I think the owner was the man in the window, but if they weren't, they should be damn proud of their team. Here's to the next one! read more

I've been going to David Doughie's since they started up at farmer's market. Hands down the best bagel in Austin. My favorite is the Jalapeño cheddar. The bagels here are so good! They use flour from Barton Springs Mill which totally adds to the flavor of the bagel. Reminds me of the bagels I'd have back in New York.
