I feel this practice overlooks the simple fact that their patients are children and it's in their best interest to cater to them and express genuine interest in their well-being. I don't feel a sense of kindness or empathy towards kids, nor their parents. The staff border on being cruel. There are a number of passive aggressive hoops patients and their parents have to jump through leading up to their appointment date. During the COVID and post-COVID era, it was a huge annoyance to have to answer a list of questions related to the family's health and whereabouts prior to their appointment date, and it was terribly off-putting, excessive and quite honestly, a privacy violation. Patients and their families had to wait in their cars before being seen and they would limit parents in the exam room, which is ridiculous and a red flag in itself. My kids would report unkind behavior courtesy of their staff which leads me to believe it wasn't so much about patient safety in keeping parents out, but more about their power tripping and keeping questionable behavior under wraps. In the waiting room, parents could not sit next to one another and they removed all reading material making for a solitary confinement environment. If you were in violation of their ridiculous policies they would call you out at every opportunity. Every step of the appointment process was a challenge and the staff leaves the bulk of the paperwork to the patient. It was tiresome having to fill out an updated health form manually at every appointment, which again reflects poorly on them for the inconveniences extended to families of this practice. I have since changed dentists and it has made a world of a difference. read more

Dr. Dave was my childhood dentist over 25 years ago & I just took my daughter in to see him for a second opinion on a tongue tie. Dr. Dave was just as caring and thorough as he was when I saw him so many years ago. He takes the time to educate the parents and we left feeling so confident in our decision to not proceed with any oral procedure after he explained everything to us. We saw another pediatric dentist who was over diagnosing our daughter and we had a bad gut feeling about it, and Dr. Dave was honest and made us feel so much better about not putting our daughter through something she did not need. I can't imagine taking my kids to another pediatric dentist. We've been with Dr. Okawachi for 16 years and to this day, my older child who has graduated from Dr. Okawachi wishes she could go back. Dr. Okawachi is so patient with the kids and takes the time to explain everything to the parents. He won't over prescribe things and takes the approach of watching things closely. Dr. Okawachi and his staff are 100% committed to the kids. My younger child fell when he was 4 and broke off his tooth. I called Dr. Okawachi and he met with us after hours, cut his family dinner short, and met with us to do an emergency procedure...now that's dedication. I took my son to visited them once earlier this year. I called them before visiting the office, they said fist time checkup cal pay is $95, if you have insurance can be waived. I recently got the bill from them for $105, I called them to check the the detail. They said $95 is only for take "look" the tooth, not including x-ray or other stuffs. The next day I got certified mail from them about withdraw my son from their services and include the bill again. The following week, I got another two same bill again & withdraw letter. The way they handing things is completely rude. DON'T go to this place unless you want them to treat you like this. read more

Dr Dave is a class act. I have bad genes that a passed onto my kids and no one warned us about dental hygiene for toddlers. Dr Dave got us back on track and we are in a great routing now. I cannot thank Dr. Okawachi enough for the miracle he performed on my 15-month old's tooth!! My daughter chipped her front tooth in half and I was told by several dentists that we would have to leave it alone and wait until the rest of her baby tooth fell out in 5-6 years. What I loved about Dr. Okawachi is that he didn't turn me away and let me know my options for fixing her tooth. My priority for that day was to at least shave down the tooth so that it was smooth, and then I hoped to create a game plan for down the road. When Dr. Okawachi started smoothing out her tooth, my high-energy toddler was surprisingly very calm. A couple minutes into it, he stopped and asked me if it was okay if he could proceed in fixing her tooth that day by putting on a crown. I had told him that I didn't want to sedate her, and he respected that and said he would be able to do it as long as she continued to sit still. About 15 minutes later - we were done!!! It was absolutely incredible. My girl now has a little crown on her front tooth and you would never be able to tell. The whole experience was amazing and I am so grateful to Dr. Okawachi and his staff for going above and beyond for our family. read more

My family is indebted to Dr. Okawachi and his staff for all they have done for us in the past 4 years, allow me to explain. We have a 7 year old with special needs, and he was extremely terrified of going to ANY doctor appointments, it was seriously one of the hardest thing to do, even just getting him to go to the door, he would protest and want to walk in the other direction. Dr. Okawachi and staff allowed us to walk through his office, and look around to become familiar with the office atmosphere. We did this over several occasions before having Dr. O (as our son calls him) examine him. Even at that, Dr. O made the experience so much fun for our son and was so patient with him. Now he enjoys going to the office and will ask to see Dr. O often. This experience has spilled over to ALL of his Dr visits. Dentist was great and he was really good at explaining the treatments. When it was time to look at cost estimate it was too expensive compared to others. Realized that some dentist even with PPO can be out of network. Always stay in network because cost will going be too high if you go out. Went to an in network provider only ended up paying less than $80 compared to my original estimate of 300+ at this office. Just got the feeling in the end it was all about getting the most money and not establishing a good relationship with the patient. Did not want the procedure to be done for free just wanted to pay a reasonable price. My recommendation is shop around before making any decisions. In the end my son did not need mild sedation after all. He did it without Mild sedation and without it being painful. Good dentist just bad prices that I was not willing to meet. read more

My son is special needs and is 4 yrs old. It's one of the first things I say when I speak to any new doctor. I was told he's one of the few dentists that could possibly help my son. We were there on time. First thing is they asked me to have my paperwork ready, which I did not. My computer/printer broke. They took me to a room, meanwhile I finished the paperwork. 3 pages. Pretty quick. About 30min later, I ask how much longer it may be. The person said the dentist has 2 people sedated and once he was done with them we would be next. She wasn't sure how long that might be. Also, I didn't have my paperwork so it's basically my fault. I said I was done with the paperwork so now which one is it? The sedated patients or paperwork? She immediately got defensive and argument and said I was calling her a liar. The dentist walked in at this point and had to physically remove her. I was at this point so upset I was shaking. Another girl went in there while the doctor talked to me and kept making gestures to other people in the other room behind the dentist back basically saying she didn't want to be in the room. And after they make it clear that you're insurance isn't welcomed there, they made a copy of my sons insurance card. So I asked the girl why make a copy. That really set her off. Wow!! Miserable human beings with serious anger issues. I even told her there's no reason to be upset m, it was just a question. She raised her voice and started poking her hands in my face. I told the dentist what I was told and he told me it all wasn't true, that he never has other patients sedated. When I finally got to the car I cried because I couldn't believe how rude and unprofessional these people were. Not one apology. Not owning up to the misunderstanding. And later in the day the called me to give me a list of other dentist that could help me. I said, no problem- I will NEVER go back there. TERRiBLE! Seriously terrible. I wish I could report them to someone so they could learn to treat people. They kept repeating stuff about money. Money luckily isn't an an issue for us and of it were in wouldn't have been there. These people are uneducated and I truly feel sorry for them that they are stuck in their miserable jobs. read more

Dr. Dave is very nice and made my daughter feel at ease. Unfortunately, the policy the office staff has of trying to take the children back solo starting at 3 years old made me very uncomfortable. I expressed my concerns the first time they tried this and was brought back with my daughter. At that time I was assured that it would NEVER be an issue to stay with her. Clearly, that was not the case because 6 months later I was given a hard time and told I'd need to get the doctors special approval to stay with her. They even went so far as to try to lecture me about having to separate with from her when she goes to school. Sending my child alone into a room with an adult stranger isn't the same as school, nor does it seem like common sense in this day and age. read more

Watch out for Office Manager Gaby. Doctor is very good Extremely professional but the office manager will change your entire opinion about this place, starting from HIPPA (leaving your information face up and walk away to lunch) to messing up your billing. Call your insurance and double check what you were billed for before you make your payment. Both my kids used to come here we said good bye to this office last year when 4different times I had to remind Gaby that both of my kids have different insurance. Gaby always mess up the wrong child wt wrong policy even tho the age my kids are 11 years apart. She seems she knows medical billing but she does not, she is extremely rude and unprofessional - I truly wonder how this doctor stay in business and he is so clueless of the billing mistake this women does because eventually they don't get paid when insurance realize she is billing wrong patients. I called today trying to schedule an appointment and come back to this doctor hoping they have a new office manager a year later but unfortunately same Gaby answer the phone and was AGAIN extremely rude(even after I reminded her that I'm the parent of the patients from last year when she kept confusing my kids policy and insurance) after I ask to speak with doctor she left me on hold for 25 min then I got disconnected Sadly a year later nothing change so we will not be back for sure. ( this is so sad...when it could of been so simple where maybe an 8yr old could understand one child has one insurance and one child has the other insurance) we all pay so much either taken from our check or paying on your own-no one should have to deal with such issues and we should not have to spend time on the phone with insurance companies trying to fix their own mistakes. Also make sure you are not being lectured by this Gaby that you should not go in with your child even if she/he is 2-3 yrs old they tell you that you need to learn to let child go by keeping child separated from the lobby where you as parent suppose to wait... like I'm some idiot to leave my child alone in a room with a stranger-I asked the doctor and allowed me but that was something VERY strange that I notice this Gaby was pushing for....and most parents had a problem talking in the lobby about it....I never let my child alone, make sure you don't either. read more

We used this office for seven years for two children. If we hadn't moved out of the area we would have continued. Dr. Okawachi and his staff are, by far, some of the kindest and most honest practitioners I have ever had the experience of dealing with. My son had a serious dental issue at the age of 2 and after the procedure, Dr. O sat with me for a half hour at my son's side while we waited for him to fully recover from his anesthesia (no "drunk" behavior from my child on the way home like you see in so many videos). He suggested that my daughter should be sedated with medication to extract an infected tooth which was not necessary. I took to another dentist who extracted the tooth same day no strong sedation which came out 400 dollars cheaper. Dr Okawachi prescribed good antibiotics which helped with infection. He is nice to kids but watch out for unnecessary procedures. Also they make sign a paper that says the staff can hold down ur child during treatment which could cause bruising ... I would NEVER sign such a thing and that's the reason I didn't go back. read more

Our daughters have been patients of Dr. Okawachi since about 2013. We were referred by our primary dentist due to our daughters both having specific needs for their teeth and we couldn't be more pleased with that referral. Dr. Dave and his staff are so caring about their patients. When my daughters first started as patients, they were 8 and 10 years old and were like normal kids who are a bit scared of going to the dentist. After the first visit, both my girls were in love with Dr. Dave (as he has his patients call him) and his staff - I only wish going to the dentist had been like this for me when I was a kid! What kid ever says, "When do I see the dentist again?". The staff goes above and beyond to make the kids want to care for their teeth by having the "No Cavity Club" and they get their pictures posted on the No Cavity Wall and a certificate. Dr. Dave always takes time to explain what is needed for each patient's teeth and he even referred us to a fantastic orthodontist when it was time for braces. He worked very closely with the orthodontist to make sure that the whole process was always in the best interest of each of our girls teeth. Dr. Okawachi is truly a pediatric dentist who cares. Ummmm that is what the front office is supposed to do right?? Then, they want to charge for things that you are not supposed to be charged for! If you give them a chance they will try and rip you off. While sitting in the waiting room a patient came in, had a simple request for information and had to ask 4 times because they do not listen at all!! He ended up getting so frustrated and snapping, which I can not blame him for. I can only imagine how much business these two idiots have costed Dr. Okawachi. Dr. Okawachi is the first dentist who my son was willing to open his mouth for and have his teeth cleaned. My son can be a bit of a challenge (diagnostics aside) where patience, flexibility and understanding is a must - which are all qualities Dr. Okawachi and his staff have. Dr. Okawachi is the best children's dentist in the Orange County area by far. My son was frightened when he had to get dental work performed. All the dentists we visited told me they would have to put him under to perform the necessary work. I was referred to David Okawachi by a friend and decided to give him a try. He made my son feel so comfortable and was able to get the work done with little stress from my son. We have been patients of this dentist for a few years now. My son used to avoid telling me if his mouth was bothering him and now he understands the importance of oral health care and welcomes visits to see Dr. Okawachi. This office saved us financially and performed the necessary work for significantly less than the rate the other offices indicated we would have to pay.
