Pretty horrible experience at David's today. Been chasing an issue with my vehicle starting for about a month now and finally had it down to the starter, which I can't replace myself (tools). Spoke to David's and they said they would replace the starter I had (O'Reilly's) but they wouldn't warranty the part. Expected and okay. Dropped the vehicle off about 9am. Given a quote for $231 for inspection, diagnostics and testing. Was told that it would be applied to any repairs. Was verbally quoted by Rich that the starter replacement may add a "couple of bucks" but would be close to the $231 and that the testing/diagnostic charge would apply. Was told it would be done by noon. At 12:30pm called to get a status, still in work. At 12:45pm I get an automated inspection report. At 1pm I call back to see if the starter had been replaced. Nope. Quote $760 for replacement using my part and $1050 to use theirs. Asked about the 300% increase from the initial price and after being put on hold for a while was told that the best they could do was $463. DOUBLE the original quote! Was also told that they "hoped" to get it done today. "Hope" is a little dubious after doubling/tripling a quote for no reason. They also made very clear that absolutely no warranty was included - including installation. When I asked if the starter fell off because they forgot to torque the bolts, "Nope, we wouldn't cover that. But we do things right around here." At 5pm I called to see if it was actually completed and it had been done but no one had decided to let me know. Overall, just a bunch of over promises, under delivery and dishonesty! They behave like a dealership --super high "diagnostic" fee. This place is fine if you have a brand new car, but if you're just trying to squeeze a few last miles out of an old car, they're gonna try to get you to pay them more than your car is worth. read more

They will not provide you an itemized bill of parts or labor. You just get a description of repair and the cost. No breakdown of the cost of parts, labor rate, or number of labor hours. Big red flags in my book. When I asked for itemized bill, I was told they won't provide one and it's just their policy. I will not be bringing my vehicles back to them. Also I was quoted a $695 for a 3 hour electrical diagnostic fee. I got a second opinion and that mechanic tightened a loose negative wire in 10 mins no charge. Makes me think David's is not operating fully ethical or honest after that experience. read more

Have a situation where you bought a part for your car and need a mechanic to put it on or replace part? Herr is your place. Great Customer service and very informative. Brad helped us and even found a new customer discount after hearing our situation to replace a faulty alternator. Not easy to find with GPS. They are behind the Colony Cafe if that helps. They offer nice warranties on parts and helps in most situations where other mechanics won't as most franchise mechanic shops will only sell you their parts and not assist in putting on or replacing a part you bought from autozone or O'Reilly. They will do it here and that is the reason why they keep loyal customers coming back. read more

Probably the best mechanics in a long radius. I created this account just to give them a 5 star review. Super friendly, fast, and they open at 7 so if you want to get same-day service just wake up a bit early. I had them do a lot of work on my old GMC 1975 pickup and they even threw in some fixes for free above and beyond the quote they gave me, and subtracted the cost of diagnosis towards the total cost of repairs. They also worked late both nights to try and get it done ASAP, sending me updates well past 2 hours after close. This will be my new shop going forward. read more

I am so pleased with the service here. From the fact that they allow you to book appointments (maybe it's just me but pulling up without consulting the shop first gives me a little bit of anxiety) to the whole diagnostic report they give you, I was so glad I went here rather than somewhere else. My car was having a lot of problems that I had no idea how to identify but a few minutes after I'd gotten home from dropping it off, the technicians sent me images and descriptions of what was wrong, plus I got a call with the estimated cost. A friend with experience as a mechanic claimed that it could be lower elsewhere but given the customer service and dedication to their craft here I think the price was completely reasonable. I appreciate their efforts so much and though I hope I don't have to come back with the extent of the issues I had this time, I would gladly utilize the services here again. I have been going to David's automotive for at least 3 years for them to service my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. I became concerned about their service when it was suggested for me to replace my brake fluid just after I paid them the last time I was in to flush it and replace it. Then recently, I went in again for an oil change and they suggested it to me again! I told them I know they changed it before, and I was not planning on paying them over $200 to do it again. I had another mechanic check they brake fluid, and he told me it was fine and did not need to be flushed. Not only that, they suggested I change my air filter and they would charge me $82 for that! I knew right away that price was outlandish, and I could do that myself for under $20. Interesting thing is when I and the other mechanic checked my air filter it was totally fine and did not need to be replaced at all. Lastly, they wanted me to pay $220 just for a smoke test when I told them I felt it was something wrong with the gas cap. The other mechanic (not at David's Automotive) confirmed to just replace the gas cap and that fixed the issue right away. I am very disappointed with David's Automotive as I have trusted them with servicing my Jeep for years to find out they were trying to take advantage of a single woman on a teacher's salary. I also had them send me a copy of the service that has been performed on my Jeep and low and behold, they 100% charged me to flush my brake fluid and still continued to suggest I flush it. I don't know if the things I paid for were done properly, but I will not be going back, and I highly suggest you find another mechanic that you can trust because David's Automotive will try to take advantage of you. read more

2020 I took my truck to David's automotive repair for a new power steering pump. Mine was still under warranty so Mike advised me that I could take it back and get a new one, all is great. (Mike was good to work with until David stepped in) the new pump failed, so they took it back to o'riellys and replaced it with a new one. (I talked with o'riellys assistant manager, they never came in and exchanged any parts) the "new part" failed as well so I was charged for labor on both pumps failing. I told them to put the car back together they said the truck would be back together the next day and he would only charge me for labor on the first one. I pick up my truck the following day, drove it for 10 minutes and the hose that was not threaded in properly popped off causing me to lose all steering on 423 almost causing a wreck. Seemed coincidental, but I would hope that it was just an accident that the mechanic left the power steering hose loose. After all is said and done I attached the hose properly filled it with fluid and never had a problem with the "failed pump". David was terrible to work with the whole time, very scammy, and extremely disrespectful! Worst business I've been to. read more

If I could give a 0 star rating...I WOULD. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS. During the ice storm last week I slid on ice and crashed which left my car not drivable. I called as soon as they opened telling them I am coming in because my right wheel was not turning and it was jammed into the fender. I only went to this place because it was the only place open. When I walked in to this place they barely looked at me and looked annoyed the whole time. I knew then these people were not going to give me proper service, the energy was terrible. I asked for an estimate before I left and of course they told me they would call because they need time to look at it. Whatever. They called me back hours later and told me I should file through insurance because the damage was sooo bad. Yeah right! The guy on the phone was rambling on and on about what needed to be done and was telling me details of what they had to take out and replace and using terms I obviously don't know anything about. Another red flag. I decided to confided in my father to see if they were telling the truth because I am a young women who came into this auto repair alone. I'm not naive. They proceeded to give us an estimate of $6,000 based on insurance parts then a couple days later gave us an estimate of $4,700. I looked up every thing they said that needed to be fixed and calculated the highest estimates I found online and that highest estimate online was $4,100. THE HIGHEST, that was their LOWEST. My father decided we are going to look elsewhere for estimates because that seems RIDICULOUS. Got my estimates from the other locations and the true estimate it's actually between $745-$1,140. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS AND PREY ON YOUNG WOMEN AND PEOPLE WHO THEY THINK DON'T KNOW BETTER. Shame on this place and they do not need to be in business anymore AT ALL. read more

IF YOU READ ANY REVIEW, PLEASE LET IT BE THIS ONE! I wouldn't even give this place 1 star, but it's required to leave a review. I had my car towed to the nearest mechanic shop after hours not knowing what a rip off David's would be. Please do not make the same mistake I did. They called the next morning to tell me that they had ran a diagnostic test on my car (without calling us first) and it was going to be $457 just for the test and some fuses they needed to replace so the car would "move". Which I find strange because the car "moved" just fine the night before, it just wouldn't start. Pushed it to the side of the road and the tow truck was able to load it just fine. Anyways, they proceeded to tell me the starter was "fried" and that they would need to replace that in order to finish running the test on my car to see what caused the starter to fry in the first place. They quoted me a total of $807 to change a starter and the diagnostic test (found out later the Mercedes dealership charges $195 for the test). They said they would include the $457 for the test and fuses if we replaced the starter there. So, we decided to do just that! We were in a bind and needed to get the car running. They called the following morning to tell me that the alternator and belt needed to be replaced as well. I was quoted an additional $936. A total of $1,700ish to fix my car!!!! When the parts for the car were roughly $300 online. Something didn't sit right with me, so I paid the $807 and had my car towed elsewhere. Now I am out $807 and my car still does not run. They would not provide me with an itemized receipt showing everything they did to the car and I still have no idea what the diagnostic test revealed. They say, "support your local small businesses", well I tried to do just that and got ripped off! Sad to say they take advantage of people that are in a bind. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! read more

Wow! What an attitude of the Owner!! He tells me he does not have time to talk about the work that needs to be done on my car when asked about the details. Also, no option to pick and choose of all the work that had to be done - so do it all or get lost is the policy of the shop. He tells me I should come and get my car which I did. It amazes me that in today's world where there so much competition, smaller businesses can't make customer service a top priority. I am new to the area so picked up a shop closer to the house but now I don't might driving few extra miles to another shop where people actually care and can be trusted. I found the owner to be rude, unhelpful and unappreciative of his customers. I could chalk it up to a bad day, but he is like that every time I go there. My father has been telling me I should bring my truck to these guys to get an honest job. I was not disappointed. They were thorough, quick, and detailed. The owner came out to talk to us, and the staff were all very friendly. I will be going back! I am leery of some of the chains these days, because I sometimes feel that they just rush our vehicles thru without double-checking - did I put all the lug nuts back, is the cap back on tight, stuff you would think they would do automatically, but gets lost in the shuffle. I initially stopped at a competitor (quick oil change place behind David's on Main) and asked for an oil change and a minor repair to the body. The man I spoke to was rude, full of excuses why he might not be able to do the repair (didn't even look at it) and cut me off (dismissed me) when I made a suggestion well can't you do this maybe? I recently had a major problem with my Tahoe. I drove straight to this place because I had rented two uhauls in the past and received friendly service. I am so grateful that I went to Dave's. The technicians, Sonny and his son were so helpful and explained everything. They called me, text, and emailed the quote that was easy to understand. They even added some services for free; one being an oil change! The front desk is friendly. They offered to give me a ride home and pick me up when the car was ready. This is small town type service! I moved here from a small town, and I didn't expect to receive this excellent accommodating service in the city. A week later, I stopped by to ask a question, Dave was there, and he and his technician (sorry, I can't remember his name, younger nice guy) explained the answer and took me out to my Tahoe and showed me what to look for. I find Dave's to be honest, dependable, with a quick turn around time service. Plus they are located off 121 and Main, easy to find. Used them in 2013. Was not happy. Took in my 2004 kia rio color blue for a problem with the water pump. Verbal estimate was 500 ended up 800.0. And still would not drive right because of a broken belt which supposedly caused other issues and the estimate was 1,300.00. I was very specific if it was anymore i would just chuck the car. It was 2, 300 because they claim they had to farm the work out to a machine shop. Then some hose connector broke so i was out 3, 200 and scrapped the car for 500.00. They should have told me car was dead on arrival. They kept saying it was repairable but the repairs far exceeded the amount the car was worth. In the end i took it to Christian brothers who flat out told me dont put another dime in this trap. Bought new car. Never used davids again. Have plenty friends ask me where to go and i send them elsewhere. read more

I used to have all my vehicle work done here under the old ownership. I brought a non-running vehicle there and they found out it was just a fuse. No charge, just the tow fee. I later brought my vehicle here for brakes and they wanted to completely replace my rotors, although the brakes were just now starting to show they needed replaced. They wanted $800 for the work. I took it to another shop for a second opinion and they resurfaced the rotors and replaced the pads for about $200. I then learned this place was under new ownership. I'm just thankful I had enough prior automotive experience to know that my rotors were not beyond repair. read more

The "service engine" light came on so we took it to our local Brakes Plus where we had been having our vehicles serviced for many years. We had to take it to them twice and the engine light came back on again - after spending close to $1,000.00. My husband then discovered David's Auto Repair and we took the car there. They went way above and beyond to find and fix the problem and, more importantly, they stand behind their work with a warranty. Was quoted (twice) $90 to change a headlamp ballast and ended up paying $140 and they didn't even change both bulbs although my invoice said they did! Then I called back and told them they kept one of my new bulbs (I brought in)and didn't change it out and they said to come back and they would finish the job and there would be no charge. 2nd visit sat in the waiting area for 20 minutes before they came and told me they were going to charge another $100!!!! Unfair and no apology!!! I take back any good review and say shame on them for trying to take advantage of people! Also leftover grease on the white interior of my car from mechanic... Took it to Midas, repair was done within 15 minutes and it only cost me $47. They also found a screwdriver sitting in my engine and the manager at Daves (Chris) didn't even put things back together in the engine before he let me drive off!
