    Grilled chicken sandwich with chips
    Kristen D.

This was a pretty solid meal! The chicken sandwich was exactly what I was craving. I do wish the chips were fresh. You could tell they weren't. I would come back!

This is a nice little "mom and pop" style breakfast spot (they may have lunch, not sure). We were seated in about 5 minutes (there are a couple seats inside near the to go pickup area to wait) and taken to a table in the back. I ordered the pumpkin spice pancakes, though they didn't taste any different from normal pancakes, sadly. Everything was warm when it arrived and the sausage links were good.

First time visiting David's Deli at the recommendation from my wife, who has eaten here twice before. I trust her culinary voice...enough...so I said "sure". Plus, it was a new place to me and that created some slight inner excitement. FOOD: Crab Nuggets (appetizer); Reuben with potato salad; sweet tea. One of the better-balanced sweet teas you'll find in Wilmington, if that's your thing. The housemade brewed tea isn't too sweet but also isn't too bitter. It was cold, crisp and delightfully refreshing. The crab nuggets were fantastic. Yes, they're fried but they aren't heavy. Surprisingly, they were on the lighter, fluffier side but still hot, golden brown and offers a slight crunch. Inside is all about some cornmeal and plentiful crab meat with some minced peppers. Think...mini, light hushpuppies with crab meat, fried up wonderfully and served with tartar + cocktail sauce. Don't use too much sauce when dipping though bc it will kill the great flavor of the nuggets. A little dip will go a long way or simply use no sauce at all. I liked these a lot. When the Reuben and potato salad were delivered to the table, the first thing I noticed were glorious, beautiful caraway seeds on golden rye bread. Oh yes. As a matter of fact...hell to the yes to this bread. I'm not a bread or carb guy at all but I could just eat this bread as a stand-alone toast. I don't know where they source this bread but I want to know now. It's not an extra-large sandwich, but it's packed adequately enough to fill you up. The corned beef was super tender bc David's Deli shaves it thin rather than in chunks or brisket-style. Being almost transparently thin, the meat's flavor shines bright and was simple to chew. The thousand island dressing was terrific and the 'kraut offered a slight sweetness rather than the standard vinegary flavor. I'm guessing they use apple cider vinegar and it was awesome. The potato salad's mayo - mustard ratio was perfect and reminded me of a backyard family bbq dish. All in all, there was nothing left. It was ALL gone. I've had some very good Reubens in town but for $10.99 (+ small upcharge for the potato salad), David's delivers a top 3 value Reuben sandwich in Wilmington. SCORE: 4.9 STARS!! SERVICE: We had the pleasure of experiencing Tracy's service and she was on her game completely. Refills of tea and water were offered semi-regularly and she made recommendations when I asked what they were known for. Although she and the entire staff were busy, she was efficient and interacted with a smile each time. There were no mistakes, shortcomings nor anything I can recommend to improve service. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: David's Deli is legit. It's set up like an odd beach-style diner but serves up fine deli fare so be prepared for this setup before walking in, expecting something like Carnegie's in NYC. It's a casual dine-in vibe, delivers incredible food and provides you with service with a smile. The prices are very reasonable, making this a best value deli in Wilmington. What I ate was that tasty. I'm a believer and will be back again to try something new...soon. SCORE: 4.95 STARS!!

    Cheesesteak

Really glad we finally stopped by this place! Located right next to primal BBQ, we came here after a morning at the beach for lunch. It was busy the entire time we were there. I had the grilled chicken philly & my boyfriend had the cheesesteak. The portions are really good for the price & everything was tasty. They offer breakfast & lunch and I didn't see a bad looking plate coming out of the kitchen. I had trouble deciding what I wanted so I will be back to try more! Service was friendly & quick, I highly recommend for a quick bite!

Great place for breakfast with all the local storytellers in Wrightsville Beach... fantastic service and everyone seems happy to be here supporting this family business. The young lady waiting tables knows everyone and single handedly covers 8-9 tables while smiling and making everyone feel good.

Cheeseburger with fries. My preference is for the homemade chips as a side item.

I have visited this place for years. Always consistent food with a basic menu. I have never had breakfast but I understand it is a popular destination. My favorite is the cheeseburger and homemade potato chips.

The flavor was great the caramelized onions with the Oklahoma sauce was a great pairing. The burger itself was juicy and had a good flavor. One of the better burgers I've had honestly and you have a ton of toppings to choose from. My one bite score came out to a whopping 8.2/10 which is the 4th highest rated burger on my scale ever. The sweet potato wedges were amazing the cinnamon is the way to go! I was kind of disappointed with the sizing I ordered a large to split between the two of us and it wasn't enough. The 12 oz shake was amazing the only thing with that was it took forever. I was done with my food by the time the shake was done. It did look like they only have one shake machine so that could be why it took so long but the fact the I was done with my food before even seeing the shake was a bit crazy. The price of it all was a bit steep in the 40 some dollar range, but it was great. Also kinda in a random place but the vibes were great in there and the food was good I would say it is definitely worth the drive.

We were next and got the last table for two. The place was completely full. After reading the menu, the daily special was 1/2 price burgers. They also gave first responders 20% off on Mondays. They have specials every night, so it is worth it to check that out before coming in. We started with a basket of hush puppies and corn muffins with yummy molasses butter. If you get in between 3:30 and 5pm, appetizers are 1/2 price Monday through Friday. I can see why this place is so busy! So I decided on a burger, who can pass up half price day? And we also got the knuckle sandwich, which was 20% off for first responders, so my hubs got that. Off to a good start. Also tried fresh squeezed lemonade, really delicious and fair priced. The burger and the sandwich were huge, we both had to take half to go. You get one side for $1.50, but added sides are $4 each. Still ok since the prices are good. There were charges for the added bacon and cheese on my burger but still at half price, it is a great deal. The restaurant is very rustic, pub atmosphere and very relaxed. The bar was completely full, so that must be the highlight of the restaurant. Looked lively and busy. Service is very good, the servers come back to check on you often. Chloe was very sweet and attentive. The only disappointment was dessert. We chose the cake of the day. It was chocolate Bundt cake with cinnamon frosting. To be completely honest, it tasted like boxed cake mix and canned frosting. It was very small, so I knew it was probably cake mix. There was nothing special about this; it was also pretty dry. Even if they purchased their desserts from a local bakery, it would have been better than what we got. I won't say avoid all their desserts, but I wanted to point out the cake specifically. So overall: The prices were excellent, food and service is really great, and the pub atmosphere was nice and comfortable. The plus was that on a busy night, we didn't wait for a table. They do not do reservations so prepare to wait, or just go earlier. I would definitely come back here, and enjoy some more of the large menu. 5 stars

We arrived at the restaurant at 5 pm, shortly after they opened to discover that they didn't even have an inside table that would seat seven. They had one table closest to the door that appeared to be a table for four but had six chairs tightly squeezed in. Our only alternative was to eat outside in 95 degree weather. One in our party even got sick while there due to the heat. The food was average but I wasn't happy that we were misled... When I asked the hostess, she stated, "We told you we'd TRY to accommodate you." If you have a party of more than four, look for another restaurant.

I ended up coming here twice in two days--once to try the NY Chopped Cheese and then again to try…read morethe Philly Cheesesteak. Let's start with the chopped cheese. As a New Yorker, I was excited to see it on the menu. And let me say this first... the sandwich was delicious. I cleaned that thing up and didn't leave a single crumb behind. The flavor was on point. Here's the only issue: it wasn't really a chopped cheese. Instead of using chopped ground beef like you'd find at a New York bodega, it was made with sliced steak. I asked the owner about it, and he explained that they used to make it the traditional way, but they switched because the ground beef would dry out by the time customers got it home or had it delivered. Using steak keeps it much juicier. I told him, "Then it's not really a chopped cheese anymore... it's basically a Philly cheesesteak." He laughed and said, "No, our Philly cheesesteak uses different meat." That caught my attention, so I said, "Hold up... you have an actual Philly cheesesteak too?" He said yes. So naturally, I came back the next day to try it. After trying both, I can honestly say I liked the "chopped cheese" much more. The Philly cheesesteak was made with Steak-umm-style beef, and unfortunately it was a little dry. It also could've used a lot more cheese (or cheese sauce) to bring everything together. I didn't complain because everyone has their own way of making things, and I respect that. But here's my opinion: if they simply renamed that "chopped cheese" sandwich to their Philly cheesesteak, it would be one of the best cheesesteaks around. In fact--and this is just my opinion--I think it would give J. Michael's Philly Deli some serious competition. At the end of the day, that's just one New Yorker's opinion. Go try it for yourself and let me know what you think!
