This restaurant has recently closed but since I did enjoy my meal when I did go and try the place when it was still around I figured I'd still write a review as they still have other locations in the Boston area. I saw some delicious sounding seafood, steak and Italian dishes as well as salads and appetizers on the menu and since I was more in the mood for a steak I picked the Filet Mignon as my entree. They had two different sized cuts that they were offering and I decided to go with the smaller one. It was very delicious and I got the mashed potatoes as a side dish which was also very good. I happened to be there during a busy lunch hour so the place was a bit noisy but nothing too overwhelming. It did take a little while for the meal to be served but it was well worth the wait. The prices are a bit high but you definitely get what you pay for. I really liked this restaurant and I will definitely consider dining with them at one of their other locations within the Boston area. read more

My surf and turf came with 2 small scallops along with a too well done filet mignon. The appetizer spring rolls were a disappointment due to gummy/chewy wrap and too much cheese. Highlight of meal was the Tagliatelle pasta. Freshly made, prepared al dente. The sauce was at best mediocre. Very bland. Bar was too notch. Classic high-end steakhouse. Everything is top notch as you would expect it to be at this price-point... I came here with my husband and my parents to celebrate my birthday. We started with tuna tartare and oysters rockefeller. Both were great and I would definitely order them again! For my entree, I ordered the 8oz filet mignon. Our table sides were creamy spinach, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. My steak was a good portion size and cooked correctly to medium-rare. The creamy spinach was more watery than creamy (which I also confused with creamed spinach) but the potatoes and Brussels sprouts were perfect. For dessert, the server wheels out a cart of goodies for you to choose from. Kudos on the visual marketing! My dad and husband both picked something off the cart. I ordered an espresso martini for my dessert, however our server brought out a plate of little cookie things and it said "happy birthday" on the plate in chocolate sauce. What a nice surprise! On May 11th I wrote a less than flattering (but completely true) Yelp review about Davio's Chestnut Hill, and was subsequently contacted by Davio's upper management to discuss my experiences. During this discussion, I provided additional information about my experiences at Davio's. After the discussion, I was offered an incentive to give them another chance. There was no discussion or pressure on me to write a more positive review. I always write exactly what I feel. Because it is closer to my home, I asked if I could go to the Braintree Davio's, and that was okay with them. This certainly wasn't a controlled experiment. Braintree is not Chestnut Hill, and management in Braintree was aware of my interactions with the corporate higher-ups. My wife and I choose to go on a Thursday evening because we like quieter, less crowded times. We were sat in a booth next to the bar. I was initially worried that the bar area would be a noisy place, but my fears were unfounded. The bar patrons were very well behaved. Service throughout the meal was 5*. Warm, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and not overly intrusive. We started with two glasses of red wine, and the Calamari appetizer. The wine was reasonably good and served at a proper temperature. The Calamari was served hot and crispy. I thought the Aioli was too thick and dense, but my wife liked it the way it was. The Cherry Peppers were a bit too spicy for my preference, but I ate them anyway. My wife found the peppers not to spicy and a good combination with the Aioli. 5*'s for the Calamari. The popovers were good, but tasted of salt. This comes from a person who added salt to his steak. Please use less salt. I ask our waiter to recommend the juiciest steak they had. He recommended the 16 oz. Ribeye, and it was juicy. Ordered medium rare, it came out medium rare. I was a bit surprised to find some significant gristle toward one end of the steak. If it had been more prevalent, I would not have accepted the steak, but because the steak was so large, it was not difficult to cut around it. When I ordered the steak, I told the waiter that Davio's steaks that I have had in the past were lacking in seasoning, and asked him to tell the chef to make sure it was well seasoned. It did come out with a good amount of seasoning, but I have no way of knowing how it would have come out if I had not put in a special seasoning request. 4.5*'s because of the gristle. My wife ordered: "6 oz Center Cut Filet Mignon, Grilled Prawn, Creamy Potatoes, Asparagus, Béarnaise" It was juicy, tender, and flavorful. Ordered and delivered medium rare. The Asparagus was a bit flabby (slightly over cooked). Overall rating 4.5*'s because she could not find any Béarnaise, and the flabbiness of the Asparagus. As a side dish, we ordered the "Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Sherry Citrus". BS get too soft if they were over cooked. These were just a little bit too soft and therefore I could not consider them "Crispy". The Sherry Citrus was reduced down so much that the whole dish ended up too sweet. Not too sweet to eat them, but enough that I thought about it with each bite. 3*'s for the Sprouts. For dessert, we split a Tiramisu. For us, a dessert has to be worth the calories, this was not. It needed more substance and a stronger coffee flavor. 3*'s for the Tiramisu. From this and other Davio's experiences, I have concluded that dessert is their weakest link. I don't think I would order a dessert the next time I'm here. The Decaf Cappuccino was nothing special. Rest rooms were clean and well stocked. For me, if I go out and spend $125 to $150 per person on a dinner, I expect everything to be top of the line if a restaurant wants a 5* rating from me. There is no way to put in fractional stars, so the overall rating for this visit is 4*'s. read more

23 Nurses got together to celebrate one of our own's 60th birthday last night and Davio's staff, including Olivia, Melinda, Francesca, Chelsea and a few others(sorry, I forgot your names) made the night extra amazing. We came here for dine out Boston. The online menu had salmon and flank steak but the menu at the restaurant was totally different. It felt like a bait and switch . The staff told us the online menu was last year's menu but it had all of these years dates. The staff was coughing over us and rushing us to order. The food was all underwhelming. The portion size was small. The speed of the food coming out was slow. We would wait 20-30 mins in between each course for our next dish .It was just a bad experience. Davio's didn't deliver. Tucked along the side of the mall, it strives to promote the airs of "high end" but it's just another chain. Service was fine, ambiance was fine but my scallops and sweet corn completely underdelivered. The price point ($54) achored my expectations to something special but the scallops were overcooked and smaller than I expected. The sweet corn and roasted parsnips did not provide the richness that I would expect as well. Very underwhelming. Had reservations here on a Saturday night for a birthday. It's great to see the mall still busy. Davio's is a nice restaurant with a classy ambience and friendly service. We are planning on having our rehearsal dinner at Davio's so we stopped by for dinner to help us decide on our options for the select menu. We ordered: -sampler of spring rolls (one Philly cheesesteak spring roll with ketchup and mustard, chicken parm with marinara, and buffalo chicken with blue cheese) - the spring rolls were really good. I was a bit confused with mine since the Philly cheesesteak roll was paired with the blue cheese and the buffalo chicken was in the ketchup and mustard. The halves my fiancé had were paired correctly - warm spinach, roasted peppers, portobellos, goat cheese, balsamic - this was delicious. Loved the roasted veggies - hand-rolled potato gnocchi with organic mushrooms, basil, truffle butter - we really liked this dish. The potato gnocchi were cooked well and fluffy. For the sauce, I wish it had more time to reduce so it was thicker. It was a little watery - penne bolognese with braised veal, beef, pork, San Marzano tomatoes - the sauce was really good. My family and I came for Father's day and the server we had seemed nice but he forgot to really check up on us. We also noticed after ordering food and waiting 30 mins or so that everyone was getting seated and got bread, while we didn't get any until we asked another server about it. The server said it was cause they were busy but it seemed more like an oversight on our original server. The food was okay. Overpriced for the amount you get. I got the entree halibut and the sauce was overly tart. The fish itself was cooked alright. Good crust but a bit overcooked and dry. The artichokes were cooked the best. Everyone else got entree veal tenderloin, entree filet, rigatoni and bolognese. Rigatoni and bolognese were pretty basic and the price was overpriced. Never again. The veal and filet were alright as well. We got the steak and cheese spring rolls and burrata which was actually good. Came at a pretty bad time as we were seated next to a large party with kids who kept running around the tables, servers and such. Servers never said anything to the family and just let them run around all tables. I wouldn't come back here again to be honest. My first visit to one of the area's best known restaurants in Braintree was for a business dinner meeting. Davio's is located at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree where the former Joe's American Bar and Grill was situated I believe. Davio's is a Northern Italian Steakhouse that has several other locations within the Boston area, including Logan Airport. The restaurant has a traditional steakhouse ambience with a comfortable cozy atmosphere. The menu has a Northern Italian fare and their wine selection has favorites from California, Italy and France. We had a private room with a rectangular table. The restaurant provided pop overs for the table which were fabulous. I love them, they are addicted. I chose a pleasing California Cabernet that complimented everyone's dinner, including my sword fish entrée which was delicious. Brian, our head waiter, was excellent along with the rest of their staff. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience. read more

I have t had popovers in years and they did not disappoint. The handmade Butternut Squash Caramelle, Cacio e Pepi had well-balanced sweet/savory/ peppery sauce. Penne with Applewood Smoked Chicken in a light creamy sauce topped with walnuts and sundried tomatoes was unique. The bread was the best part of the meal! Absolute cloudy fluffy heaven with butter. The lychee martini was too sweet. The Philly spring rolls appetizers were just ok. The livers were too dry. The mignon was tasteless and the prime aged steak was just ok. I can do better at home on a skillet . No flavor of any kind present. Side of organic mushrooms again just average . The dessert was Panna Cotta - but I would never have guessed it since that dessert in Milan, Portofino and the Dolomites doesn't taste like soapy custard. Popovers were cold, filet was a bit cold. But all the other mains and sides were good. Service was very slow. Waiters rarely stopped by, no manager check in, felt like we were being ignored. Maybe they were understaffed for Thanksgiving night but they didn't look too busy. I generally like Davio's but I don't think I'll come back to the Braintree location. I loved their blueberry cheesecake it was something different. The vibe of the restaurant was simple and elegant, but I think the location of this Davio restaurant was poorly chosen. Came to Davios in Braintree for an event celebrating my nanas 80th birthday and had a fantastic time. The staff was INCREDIBLE, they were so fast, kind and patient with my very rowdy family. The seafood tower appetizer, passed apps and my 16 oz ribeye were all incredibly delicious and cooked to perfection. the bartender (Brian i believe was his name) was so kind and accommodating and made fantastic pear martinis. We came here a few years ago and the quality and service has gone downhill! Our waiter took forever 32 minutes for a drink and did not even offer at least bread. A busgirl came by and offered us the bread. It took about an hour for our food to come in and it was so disappointing. I had the 55 day age sirloin which tasted like cardboard and my wife had the veal tenderloin which was cold. Definitely won't be coming back the food is not worth the money! read more

You can tell it's fresh. 2) Warm spinach salad with goat cheese: mediocre, the vinaigrette dressing is tangy, it's still a good salad 3) Short ribs entree that comes with potatoes and crispy rings: hands down one of the best entrees. The short ribs are amazingly tender and soft and goes so well with the potatoes and onion rings. Tip: ask to have it separated when you order take out or rose the onion rings will not be crispy since they put it all in one container with the potatoes and the short ribs. 4) Lobster risotto: delicious! We had lunch this week. Service was great, the food was not amazing. It definitely seems to be a higher end eatery but with the culinary quality of any Outback or Joe's. Philly steak rolls in a mound of ketchup. All the rolls. Weird. The gnocchi was decent but lacked the prime ingredients that would make it exceptional and that's simply cream. Short cuts. The bolognese was pasta with a meat sauce and lacked interest. The cocktail list contained a peanut butter and jelly martini... and that itself was the maraschino cherry on top of our cool whip experience. You have a (likely tedious to execute) torturously fancy fold on your napkins. Some novelty potato chips mixed into the bread basket and that's it. Step it up. read more

The food, as always, was fabulous - braised short ribs, veal tenderloin, spinach salad, butter cake dessert. We always can count on Davio's. Our waiter, Reynardo, was terrific. He was attentive but not pushy. We were celebrating my birthday and wanted "to dine" not to just eat. He picked up on this and didn't rush us.
