We ended up leaving before ordering because the dining experience wasn't what we expected. Although it's a sit-down restaurant, there wasn't any traditional table service. Instead, we were directed to order everything through our phones which took away from the experience we were looking for. The menu was also much more limited than we anticipated, especially for a breakfast restaurant, and the prices felt high for the selection offered. I was even treated to a 1/4 slice of cookie -- a thank you and a surprise sample on my first visit. The menus is large, and there are plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We tried the biscuit with sausage gravy and the side order was the perfect amount of food for one person if you aren't starving. It had great flavor and will be a go to comfort item. The chicken salad sandwhich was very filling and hit the spot. The grapes in it were a nice touch, but the bread was pretty rough, but I'd say that's fairly normal for a toasted sandwich. We ate here two times and after an underwhelming experience the first we came back because it's a quiet place to eat. This place is very understaffed which they have been for a very long time and the stress on the current employees bounces onto their customers. We felt offended that the server said he'd allow us to sit the two of us at a 4 person table but if a group of 4 came, they'd have to seat us inside instead. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! was just here earlier today for breakfast when we received a lecture from the owner about our dog because he is a large dog. [[HIGHLIGHT]]we entered the establishment and were given our choice of seating on the dog friendly patio as no one else was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]we were required to sit at a small two person table, since we were just a party of two with our dog.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] our waitress julia was so sweet and accommodating, 5 star service. we ordered drinks and our food, and our food came out about 30 minutes later. julia was not the one serving our food, but the owner cathy. our dog (60lbs, poodle) was laying next to us as close as possible to the table, and out of the way of other patrons. the owner decided to step over our dog to attempt to serve us, which resulted in him standing up. we pulled him off to the side and made him sit so he would be out of her way, and she proceeded to lecture us about keeping the dog on a short 2ft leash because people could trip over him. we explained that he was on less than a 2ft leash and he was lying down out of the way and she ignored us to continue her lecture. we decided to get up and leave when our food arrived, explaining to our waitress julia that the owner was very rude and gave us an undeserved lecture. julia was very apologetic and kind about the incident. the owner came back around and had said she was confused when her waitress told her we were upset because she "hadn't even yelled" as if this is a regular occurrence for her. we told her that she was very rude, that our dog was lying down and calm and under control. we were lectured again about how big dogs can get in the way and people can trip over them, despite the fact that other patrons had no issue navigating around him. We walked in & asked to be seated. The owner Cathy asked us if we were familiar with a "QR code" menu. We said we would try it but it was not user friendly &/or easy to navigate so we opted for traditional menus. We ordered an iced coffee & orange juice. What made us walk out the door was this. Cathy brought us 2 cups of water that were warm! My wife then asked for some ice. Cathy then brought us some ice that had black spots in it! (Maybe mold?) my wife decided to go up front & pay for the drinks we ordered. We then went to "Breakfast republic" which always has great service & food. I make a conscious effort to support small, locally owned businesses -- but my experience here was truly unacceptable. My husband actually knows the owner well and goes out of his way to frequent this business as much as possible. The owner however does not know me well enough to recognize me and she just accosted me. I'm pregnant and close to delivering and am still shaking. Her behavior was shockingly unprofessional and outright hostile. There is absolutely no justification for treating people this way. It's unfortunate, because I wanted to like this place and continue supporting them, but I cannot in good conscience recommend supporting a business that operates with such disrespect. My partner and I came here on a Saturday morning on our way home from a nice getaway in SD. When I first walked up I was pleased with the exterior charm- the place looked comfortable with outdoor dining and cute foliage on the balcony. We got seated outside right away as there weren't many people dining there. We were told to scan the QR code for ordering. This process was mostly simple, a little confusing since each person has to scan it on their own phones to order and it's unclear whether the orders will be linked or not until the last screen. There were elderly patrons at a nearby table that were struggling with this process. At the end, you can opt to pay for your yourself or the entire table, all from your phone. This means there is really no table service and therefore I believe it should affect the tip. We ordered a coffee and a french toast plate each. My drink came first, followed by our food, followed later by his drink. The food did not look appetizing when it arrived and I couldn't finish my plate. The french toast did not taste fresh, the eggs seemed rehydrated or something. We didn't actually hear the sounds of a typical kitchen and are fairly certain our food was microwaved. Overall, the staff we interacted with were sweet and kind. There could be major benefits in small changes like adding sun shades to the outdoor dining area (we had to relocate inside due to sun), music throughout to improve ambiance, maybe doing away with QR ordering and leaving it for menu viewing only as an option. This restaurant could be a vibrant staple attracting people to a highly walkable street full of great independent shops. Just needs a little TLC. read more

Our office moved to Point Loma so I was checking out local coffee places and my boss told me to check out Jennings! It's maybe a block away so that was a plus! For my first visit I had an iced matcha latte, then I saw the pastries and I overindulged, I ended up picking up a pistachio baklava, an original baklava and a sticky bun. I literally said "treat yourself." I got to meet Kathy the owner and she was really sweet, she makes the pastries minus the baklava in house. My matcha hit the spot a good amount of caffeine and sweetened just how I prefer, my pastries were AMAZING. I had to stop myself from finishing the sticky bun, I promised my husband that I would share. The baklava on the other hand I demolished, their longer pieces so to me it seemed like I had 4 pieces per stick. Today I ended up getting their chai latte and same thing, really tasty, sweetened how I like and just very good. Definitely have to try their breakfast next time! read more

I've now ordered from Jenning's three times, each experience better than the last. I'm a big fan of most of their breakfast items, but my favorite to date is the Breakfast Burrito (scrambled eggs, black beans, bacon, cheddar, wrapped in a warm tortilla served with salsa & fruit, $12.00). The black beans really elevate the flavor and taste that many breakfast burritos seem to lack. The salsa was delicious, although I could have used more, and the fruit was fresh and sweet. I was so impressed with the burrito I was inspired to make my own at home. Now, I refuse to make breakfast burritos without black beans. Other delicious menu items I recommend in a heartbeat include Avocado Toast with Eggs (choice of toast, avocado, 2 poached or scrambled eggs, $12.50), and the Brioche French Toast (3 piece of house made baked french toast, topped with fresh berries and powdered sugar. Food was really good and reasonably priced. The staff is very on guard about Covid precautions. Which is a good thing but they were a little over the top. The yelled at me for picking up some napkins. Well I know they are short staffed so I thought I would grab my own napkins since I wasn't provided any and my sandwich was on the messy side. I didn't touch anything else just the top napkin I grabbed but by their tone you would think that I licked their entire countertop. I know people react in different ways and they could have been coworkers that were out with Covid which made them extra stressed. I initially found Jennings House just looking for something open at 6 AM. What a pleasant surprise this place was. I'm not used to CA prices, but they seemed pretty normal. Food was plentiful and very tasty. The French toast with berries was really well done, completely enjoyable and very filling. The scrambled eggs were nice, delicate and not watery. The bacon was done perfectly, just enough to be firm without being overly floppy. The QR code order and pay was great for me who was in a little bit of a rush. I would recommend boxing up the fruit separately. I will say, the salsa was excellent!! Highly recommend that salsa.
