    Biscuit and Gravy

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Jennings was great! It is a historic house that has been turned into a cafe. There's so much character and it is walking distance to the marina.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The coffee was great, pretty strong and not too pricey. The owner Cathy is super nice and her staff was great too. We tried the biscuit with sausage gravy and the side order was the perfect amount of food for one person if you aren't starving. It had great flavor and will be a go to comfort item. The chicken salad sandwhich was very filling and hit the spot. The grapes in it were a nice touch, but the bread was pretty rough, but I'd say that's fairly normal for a toasted sandwich. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are tables indoors and outdoors with the inside having outlets if you are coming to work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great spot!

My left over biscuits & gravy for afternoon snack.

Food is fresh and delicious. Had a great iced matcha that was perfect not too sweet. Loved their biscuits & gravy. Not to fatty but very flavorful and stellar homemade biscuits. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Incredible history on the walls. Could spend hours reading all the pictures.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Portion sizes big, had some leftover biscuits & gravy. Yum! Took a pomegranate scone home for my midnight snack. Service was great!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool breakfast place-- oldest home in Point Loma.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the Breakfast Combo (french toast, eggs, bacon) and Lox bagel which were delicious. The Vietnamese coffee was ok, and the Strawberry latte was great. Service was friendly. Mid price range. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice backyard patio for outdoor dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We ate here two times and after an underwhelming experience the first we came back because it's a quiet place to eat. This place is very understaffed which they have been for a very long time and the stress on the current employees bounces onto their customers. We felt offended that the server said he'd allow us to sit the two of us at a 4 person table but if a group of 4 came, they'd have to seat us inside instead. Of course it's a business but anyone who chooses to eat there is a pure dollar sign and not a place that cares about their food. In a place where there are many options to eat, we won't be back. There was a group of 3 who asked to sit at a table where there were 6 seats and the server said no, didn't even give them the option. They got up and left. The food itself is very average but we enjoyed the quiet ambiance and the order from QR code.

My wife grew up in Point Loma/OB & I've lived in the area for 6 years. After the many years of driving by the old victorian style home we finally decided to try "Jennings house eatery". We walked in & asked to be seated. The owner Cathy asked us if we were familiar with a "QR code" menu. We said we would try it but it was not user friendly &/or easy to navigate so we opted for traditional menus. We ordered an iced coffee & orange juice. What made us walk out the door was this. Cathy brought us 2 cups of water that were warm! My wife then asked for some ice. Cathy then brought us some ice that had black spots in it! (Maybe mold?) my wife decided to go up front & pay for the drinks we ordered. We then went to "Breakfast republic" which always has great service & food. It is very unfortunate to not have actually tried the food at this establishment but first impressions are EVERYTHING especially considering we told her it was our first time here!

Came across Jenning's on our way to La Playa Books next door. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Stopped in around 11am on a Sunday and asked for outside seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]2 hour parking on the street, homey vibes, and great weather drew us in to grab lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was super kind, QR code ordering is convenient and we were asked if that was okay with us after we were sat. Latte was hot, delicious, and had many options for flavorings and milk! Food was fresh and tasty, loved the homey vibes of this place. Will be back to try more from their menu.

My partner and I came here on a Saturday morning on our way home from a nice getaway in SD. When I first walked up I was pleased with the exterior charm- the place looked comfortable with outdoor dining and cute foliage on the balcony. We got seated outside right away as there weren't many people dining there. We were told to scan the QR code for ordering. This process was mostly simple, a little confusing since each person has to scan it on their own phones to order and it's unclear whether the orders will be linked or not until the last screen. There were elderly patrons at a nearby table that were struggling with this process. At the end, you can opt to pay for your yourself or the entire table, all from your phone. This means there is really no table service and therefore I believe it should affect the tip. We ordered a coffee and a french toast plate each. My drink came first, followed by our food, followed later by his drink. The food did not look appetizing when it arrived and I couldn't finish my plate. The french toast did not taste fresh, the eggs seemed rehydrated or something. We didn't actually hear the sounds of a typical kitchen and are fairly certain our food was microwaved. Overall, the staff we interacted with were sweet and kind. There could be major benefits in small changes like adding sun shades to the outdoor dining area (we had to relocate inside due to sun), music throughout to improve ambiance, maybe doing away with QR ordering and leaving it for menu viewing only as an option. This restaurant could be a vibrant staple attracting people to a highly walkable street full of great independent shops. Just needs a little TLC.

Staff friendly but service is very slow for breakfast. Having to order through a QR code app is clunky and not user friendly.

Do they have gluten free items?

Hi Michelle, Yes, we have gluten free pastries & desserts (unless we are sold out), as well as bagels (everything) and bread that can be used for all of our breakfast or…

I've heard from a bunch of people that there's hookah here but I can't seem to find anything about it online. Anyone know if there is?

Hi Baylee, No, as the new owner (Feb. 1), we decided to no longer offer hookah. Cathy

In the early afternoon, this place had a line, which is a good sign. The line moved quickly but also gave me time to study their menu to see what I wanted. They specialize in Hawaiian style drinks, so I settled on a Hawaiian matcha. The guy taking me order was super sweet and friendly. I was wearing my favorite Monterey Bay Aquarium sweatshirt and he commented on how that aquarium is one of his favorites! Me too! He asked me what was my favorite thing about the aquarium and I told him the sea otters. I asked what his favorite was and he said the jellyfish exhibition and omg that was soo good! I remember being at that exhibit for awhile as the jellyfish light up and there are so many kinds and so cool to see how they move! In any case, it was so nice to talk about an aquarium we both love!! The Hawaiian matcha was great! I love that they used their Hawaiian syrup in my drink. The drink was pricey, so with oat milk substitution, and a tip, it came to $10. But, think of it this way, you are also using their beautiful facilities and you can lounge here and do work, read, spend some time here. The place is massive, with tons of seating inside (its all open space, so a nice ocean breeze keeps coming thru), and lots of seats outside too! I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I will definitely be coming back here and next time, gonna bring some work and books to read and post up here!!

The chicken tortilla soup was a thicker consistency than I'm familiar with but still very flavorful nevertheless! And always love sharing 1 sweet dish to eat between savory bites. To be honest, the berry jam they gave with the toast for the omelet was really tasty (thin consistency with a balance of sweet and tart) compared to the fig jam but still yummy! Also the pricing is so decent!! Esp in a time when brunch can easily come out to $20+ per dish, we appreciated the quantity and quality we paid for!

The food has that made-from-scratch feel to it, and is always fresh and high quality. I've had breakfast and lunch here and haven't left a crumb behind either time. I loved the waffle with berries for breakfast, and the veggie sandwich at lunch time. I also LOVED the drink menu-- had the best matcha latte with housemade syrup (passionfruit I think?) and a really delicious old fashioned caramel latte. Some people might consider the downside of a place like this to be the small kitchen, as it can impact wait times and the kitchen's ability to accommodate specific requests. However!! I think this just makes the experience more special-- having to slow down and savor a dining experience instead of rushing from place to place is truly a treat. Although not always speedy necessarily, I've had amazing service every time I've visited here. On one occasion we had longer wait times for our food and were treated with a delicious cake at the end of our meal. On another, we had a very minor snafu happen where a server was adjusting an umbrella and accidentally knocked something over on the table next to us-- the staff comped all of our meals out of consideration which was just so generous and understanding. Overall I can't recommend this place enough! They have so many fun menus and specials. I can't wait to try their Peasant night in a few weeks. Grateful to have this spot in the neighborhood!

My bowl had plenty of red bell peppers and onions, which I did eventually get tired of eating. I loved the crispy kale and wish they included more of it or some seeds on top for more crunch! That day they were out of stock on everything we wanted, so I will have to give it another go if I ever get the chance to revisit. Overall, the service was very kind from the ladies and the coffee is notable!
