    Strawberry Naked Cake 4"

This is such a cute little neighborhood cake shop. I would give this place 4.5 stars. I called the day of to hold 4 mini cakes (4in) for my son's bday. The person on the phone was so accommodating and patient explaining the various cakes they had available that day. I ordered the mango naked cake. 2 strawberry naked cakes, and the earl grey with lychee topping cake. These were all 4 inch size cakes. The cream used in the cakes were light and not too sweet. The cakes were light and spongey and the fruits were very sweet and fresh. I really enjoyed the mango naked cake the best. It came with this cute little vile filled with mango puree for you to inject into the cake. I also enjoyed the earl grey with lychees cake. This had a unique flavor which reminded me of milk tea drink. These cakes were $12 each which seemed reasonably priced to me as I've had other fancy desserts that were much smaller in size for the same price. All these cakes were delicious and decorated beautifully. I appreciated that upon request, the cashier provided a happy bday topper, a candle, pink cloud plates and tiny forks for free. They also sell some sliced cakes and other desserts which you can eat at the shop. What a nice touch! I hope this place stays in business and I can't wait to buy more cakes for our next celebration!

ordered a cake for delivery and it was packed well! I called beforehand and the staff were so sweet and gave great recommendations. the cake is really light and not too sweet at all! the cream and lychee were generous! if anything I wish there was more earl grey flavor

Come here for your next event or celebration! These cakes have that classic Asian sponge cake base with a fluffy and light whipped cream topping. A perfectly light and airy cake that isn't too sweet. The staff was very accommodating! We needed to order a whole cake but online you normally have to place a day or two ahead which is valid. However I was able to call the morning of and place an order for a whole cake. We really appreciated the staff going above and beyond. Our friend really enjoyed her birthday cake. Make sure you order online with a buffer if you want those cakes' Of course we came back to try their other flavors and fell in love with the mango cream cake. The mangos were silky and sweet while the cake was fluffy and bouncy. Yum!

We've bought the mango cake and lychee chrysanthemum cake before they are by far a favorite! Light, airy, and not too sweet~ Mango cakes are by seasons so if you can get the lychee chrysanthemum! Pre-order at least 1 day in advance.

My daughter passed, and every year I get a small cake and gifts to honor her. Since it was a Monday and most cake shops were closed, I drove 25 minutes to Daydream because their mini cakes looked pretty and small, which I needed bc I'd be celebrating alone. The staff recommended the mini Strawberry Naked Cake and the mini Earl Grey Lychee Cake. I couldn't decide so I got both. They were beautiful, and at $12 each (enough for 2-3 people), I thought they were a great deal. I loved that the cakes weren't overly sweet. The strawberry one was good, but I didn't enjoy the lychee cake - the fruit was fresh, but the cake itself left a strange, slightly slimy aftertaste for me. I had hoped to try their strawberry lava mousse cake with the crown, but didn't see it available. I also loved their little $3 heart candles - they added a sweet touch. Overall, the cakes are adorable for photo ops. I wouldn't get the lychee one again, but I'd happily recommend the strawberry cake. I just wish they offered samples so I could have tried it first.

This is my second time back at this cake shop. It's very far for me but I would always take the chance to come here. There's street parking with meters and cars come and go so there shouldn't be any problems parking on a weekday. I love their cakes because they're not just simple cakes. The flavors are pretty complex so I have to eat it VERY slowly. Both times I went, I stayed there to 3 hours (whoops). Part of it is because I was chatting but you really have to eat it slowly to savor the flavor. The drinks are really good too. The Shine For You is like a passion fruit Yakult smoothie. Also, the cloud on the drink GLOWS IN THE DARK. Only the first one I got did though. The second one I got this time doesn't ):

What a lovely dessert shop tucked away in the sunset. It was nice to see all the treasures crafted by local artists displayed throughout the store as well. Service was friendly and helpful and the store has such cute vibes!

Love love this place. Everything is so delicious and delicate. I wasn't a fan of the drinks but I know for some they would be delicious. I'm not a fan of sour really. But the boba cake make me fall in love with them. It's everything I thought it would taste like. 10/10 recommend

Cakes are dreamy with innovative flavors. Service was friendly and attentive. Came in for a cake to share with friends for Thanksgiving and got the perfect cake for the occasion. It's a small Bakeshop with big flavors. Would definitely come again.

They even gave us utensils to take care of everything!

i'm sadden to say that their sweets LOOK better than it TASTES :/ and that breaks my heart. i really do wanna spend money on food that tastes good and looks good. but if it just looks good for pictures and taste really artificial/ different than what was promised, it's just not worth it. i can really appreciate the effort they placed in designs and their seasonal offers, kudos to their service. they're so very responsive via instagram too! price for whole cakes is cheaper in general compared to other cake shops. i've eaten there once and gotten take out twice and imo, it's just a place that's really really cold and doesn't provide enough heating or warm when contrasting the cute interior. again. the anything fruit tasting is very very artificial and does not taste the the fruit it's trying to mimic. their yuzu lemon/berry/strawberry's bad, i'm so sad. BUT the earl grey boba cake is not too sweet and is redeemable. i know y'all say on your website that y'all use real fruit purée/compote when making mousse but it really doesn't taste like it. sorry. it's sad. no other places in sf can make such good looking cakes, but i'd rather pay for a ugly cake that tastes so frigging delicious, than getting a pretty cake that tastes bad.

Quick Summary: - There are some tables and chairs inside - Adorable looking cakes This cafe has been on my radar for months, and I finally got to try it there. The food experience soared over my expectations. Inside the pink cafe, it is a quaint cafe with 3-4 chairs lined up along the walls. We were fortunate to get a seat and relax while eating our desserts because when we were finishing up, a crowd of customers flocked in one after another. Some arrived to pick up their orders and some claimed the seats, filling them all up. We ordered two drinks and a dessert on the first visit: the daydream, the snowy cloud, and the honey citron tea. The weather was on a cooler side, but we took a walk around the neighborhood, so this drink was perfect to cool us down. I have to admin, I was slightly wary of how intense the color was in their drinks and their desserts. From past experiences of my childhood, candy with intensely bright colors like this one didn't have the best flavors. Those skeptical thoughts were flown out the window after I took a sip of the drink. First, it was absolutely refreshing! This drink had yakult, too. I was alsos impressed with how soft and gentle the slushy was. We were sipping it but we never got brain freeze. This ice was also very easy to eat with a spoon too. None of the bites had a crunchy ice texture, it was fluffy soft. In addition of the cloud, it reminded me of cheese foam in some of the tea drinks. It blended well with the slushy. Another surprise was the snowy cloud (I decided to order this one over the other drinks because it looked like the perfect aesthetic match with the Daydreaming drink). Behind the display case, it looked like it was a mousse or a crème bavaroise. After seeing in on the table and tapped a fork against it, it was neither because it bounced. The flavor is a mix of yogurt and lychee with lychee fruit pieces hidden in the center. This was also very refreshing and healed our fatigue from the walk. The honey citron drink was served hot, and to my surprise this had the sweetest note out of the dishes we ordered. This cafe has so many surprises! Expectations are broken and a positive surprise is revealed. On a final note, the staff were very thoughtful as we took our time choosing our orders and peeked out from the counter from time to time to ask how we were doing. Definitely a "let's come back here again" to try the other adorable looking dishes and drinks.

We walked into a space that feels designed for groups, with plenty of seating and a menu built around shareable desserts. The interior has a contemporary, stylish feel with comfortable seating arrangements that accommodate both small groups and larger parties, making it the type of place where you can come after dinner and spend time trying a few different things instead of just ordering one dessert. The energy is lively and social, with groups gathered around large dessert plates and the hum of conversation filling the room. The bingsu is the main attraction here, especially the mango sticky rice bingsu and volcano-style creations. We ordered the mango sticky rice version and found the shaved ice had that soft, fluffy texture that melts quickly, creating a light, refreshing base that absorbs the toppings well. The combination of sweet mango, coconut rice, and the fine ice created a nice balance of fruity sweetness and the familiar coconut flavor, and the toppings were generous enough that each bite felt complete. The volcano-style creations add a dramatic presentation, with toppings cascading over the ice and creating layers of texture and flavor that make the dessert feel more like an experience than just a bowl of ice. The crepe cakes are also worth trying, with lighter layers that make them easier to enjoy without feeling overly heavy, and the matcha and strawberry flavors stood out for their clean, well-balanced profiles. The portions are definitely on the larger side, so this is a better place to share. We found that splitting a few desserts across the table allowed us to try more of the menu without overcommitting, and the variety of options from bingsu to honey toast and lava-style desserts meant there was something for everyone. The honey toast is a fun choice if you want something warm and more indulgent, with a crisp exterior and a soft, buttery interior that pairs well with the ice cream and toppings. Some desserts can feel a little expensive depending on what you order, but the presentation and variety make it more of a dessert outing than a quick snack, and the quality of the ingredients is noticeable across the board. Service can be a little slower when it gets busy, especially later at night when the shop fills up, but the staff are generally friendly and the atmosphere makes it easy to wait. We noticed the team handling the steady flow with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal stayed comfortable even when the restaurant was full. The energy of the room remains social and relaxed, and the staff checked in at the right moments without rushing us through the meal. U:Dessert Story is a solid spot for creative Asian desserts, especially if you are going with friends and want to try a few different flavors together. The combination of shareable portions, thoughtful presentation, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for a more social dessert experience, offering a meal that feels both indulgent and communal. The variety across the menu gives you room to explore different styles on repeat visits, and the quality of the desserts keeps the experience feeling intentional and satisfying.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly and took the time to explain to us what she recommended (the mango sticky rice in the picture). I've ordered mango sticky rice at thai restaurants before, this one was the best I've ever had. My personal favorite is #3 Ham Mixed Nuts. It's tender, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. For the best experience, enjoy them while they're still warm--fresh out of the oven, they're even better! Cash only No seating inside No regular entrance--orders and pickups are done through the outside metal sliding gate. And be careful not to stick your face too close...you never know when that gate might come sliding toward you! If you're a mooncake lover, Golden Gate Bakery is definitely a must-visit in SF Chinatown. We highly recommend the mooncakes, but unfortunately, we can't give 5 stars because of the hostile customer-service environment. Delicious mooncakes Customer service Overall Worth the attitude for the mooncakes! Go NYU! Go Violets!
