First time trying Yasukochi's Sweet Stop for the crunch cake inside Super Mira market. It was a wet rainy day for the first day SF Cherry Blossom Festival, maybe they made more slices. I waited in a short line and asked for a slice $8 CASH ONLY. They also take personal check the sign said. Tried it outside some restaurant. Its vanilla cake, whipped cream and top and side had the crunchy candy topping. I like the candy topping the best. I might get it again. Hrs: Wed-Sat 10-4. Full size cake pre-order only.

Where the Heck have I been??? Omg this cake is the best thing I've tasted as far as sweets! You know I'm a savory person, but my hubs loves sweets and I've always heard about the Coffee Crunch cake and I was in luck when I was able to snag three pieces for $8 a piece. We didn't eat t until the next day but it was still amazing! So incredibly sweet but not overly sweet with a caramel coffee crunch. @$8 a piece, it was money well spent!

Yasukochi's has been all over my social media feed, so I finally had to see what the hype was about -- and I get it now. A couple of things to know before you go: first, it's tucked inside a grocery store (look to the right when you walk in....I definitely wandered for a minute). Second, cash only, so come prepared. And third, and this is important, get there early. The woman working told me they typically sell out by noon or 1pm, and this is a small operation with clearly a devoted following, so that tracks. I arrived around 10:30am and was lucky enough to snag a few slices. I went for the famous Coffee Toffee Crunch Cake, which I'd been eyeing online. The texture was beautifully light, the sweetness was perfectly balanced, and the honeycomb crumble on top added a lovely little crunch. Honestly delicious. My only note: I was hoping for a stronger coffee flavor, it leaned much more toffee than coffee, which wasn't bad at all, just not quite what I expected given the name. The four stars come down to a few things: the coffee flavor didn't quite land for me, the cash-only policy is a bit inconvenient in 2026, and selling out by midday is tough for anyone who can't make it first thing in the morning. The demand is clearly there, so hopefully they're able to scale up production at some point! That said, the quality speaks for itself and I'm already planning a return visit to work through more of the menu. If you can make it early and have cash on hand, it's absolutely worth the trip.

I've been wanting to try Yasukochi's Sweet Stop for the longest time, but I rarely make it out to SF. Luckily, my partner called a few days ahead and placed a pickup order for Saturday. He picked everything up that day, and we shared the cakes together on Sunday. They were amazing. The owner recommended storing them in the freezer and taking them out about two hours before eating. Surprisingly, the crunch topping stayed crisp. We ordered two coffee crunch cake and one lemon crunch cake. We also wanted to try the chocolate crunch, but they weren't making it that day. The coffee crunch ended up being our favorite! Soft, light, and creamy! The lemon crunch was yummy too, but after a few bites it felt a bit heavier for me. Overall, the cakes were amazing! The coffee crunch wasn't overly sweet compared to the lemon crunch. We'll definitely be back to try the chocolate crunch cake and roll cakes.

It's really good cake, that I would probably eat on the regular. Getting there right at opening helps as well as there is no line. I got one slice of the praised cake as I wanted to try and maybe order a whole one for my birthday. The slice is $8 and CASH only. The cake is light and delicate but the taste is amazing. There are no seats as it is located in a grocery store. Make sure to have a slice before you die or they go out of business/retire.

Open 10am to 4pm CASH ONLY inside the mini grocery store Someone recommended the legendary coffee crunch cake with the honeycomb topping, so we went to track it down. It's tucked inside a small grocery spot, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. First time we showed up it was closed, so we came back the next day. The cake itself looked like a Japanese sponge cake which I'm a big fan of. Texture wise it was light and airy like I expected. The honeycomb topping had a really nice crunch and great flavor, definitely the highlight. That said, it was much sweeter than I was prepared for. A few bites in and it felt like sugar overload for me. Overall, it wasn't quite my thing because of the sweetness but I'm still glad we made the trip and tried it. It's one of those desserts you hear about and just have to judge for yourself.

Me and my girlfriend came here on a Friday and the coffee cake is really good. Taste like coffee. Customer service here is super friendly I think it's family run. The ambience is really nice. They sell spam musubi only Jerry's and other small Japanese treats and good.

The coffee crunch is fireeeeeeee I doubted this place at first bc how good can cake be; yes it can be that good. I came at 11:30 and we luckily got the last 3 slices. Would 100000% come back

Yasukochi Sweet Stop - A dessert you don't just eat, you miss. I've been eating this cake for years - long enough to see the founder's generation pass and the next one take over without losing the flavor, the texture, or the soul. In a city where bakeries modernize and "elevate," Yasukochi remains exactly what it has always been: a classic. This is old-school Japanese-American sponge cake at its finest - soft but not fragile, sweet in that unmistakable 70s-80s American way, held together by a thin, perfectly crisp coffee honeycomb crunch that dissolves instantly instead of sticking to your teeth. You can find cakes inspired by this style across the U.S., but almost no one executes it at this level. Simple, nostalgic, and - somehow - unforgettable. Lady M is my routine. Valley Fair offers free parking, easy access, and plenty of people who browse without buying. If I walk in, I'm buying. It's modern precision: clean, consistent, engineered to never fail. Yasukochi is something entirely different. You can't just show up. You call early. Leave your name and number. Hope slices remain. Arrive before 3:30 PM - or it's gone. San Francisco parking is impossible, and more than once I've simply Uber'd there because it was the only way to make it in time. Buying four slices isn't cheap - not the cake, not the Uber, not the time - and yet it still feels worth it. That's when you understand: Lady M can be bought. Yasukochi must be earned. One is luxury by convenience. The other is luxury by scarcity - the kind only a decades-old family shop can create. And that's why a month without this cake feels wrong. Not because the cake is rare, but because the memory it carries is irreplaceable. A flavor preserved through generations - sweet, honest, and exactly what it should be. Five stars. A landmark. Not for perfection, but for preservation. - Dr. C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

while it's still on the pallette... 10/10 first of all LOL I had an idea of what I was getting myself into but I left a bit of a surprise. I initially thought it was *coffee* cake in the LITERAL sense, which would've turned me off, but as I've learned with the American language, don't take things literally ahehehe This is a coffee *accompaniment* to be precise. The crunchy topping is of caramelized sugar: airy, light, crispy (crunchy). The light and delicate crumb of the cake is simple and grasps the candy with the whipped cream layers in-between. $6 is perfectly priced. It's just enough to share for 2 if you're not a sweet tooth (but it's honestly not that sweet, it's extremely balanced) but delightfully indulgent for one. You can still move around and dance around the city after this slice, and still want another sweet to close the evening. 10/10, delightful, simple and the best texture balance in a cake slice by far.

The coffee crunch cake was amazing!! I've heard of this place before and it's inside the supermarket from the main japantown place. They only take cash, so make sure you bring some to buy their desserts. I would definitely recommend trying the coffee crunch cake. I really liked the coffee cream and the toffee candies as the flavors just go so well together.

The iconic crunch cake does not disappoint! The slice is a mere 1 inch, leaving me wanting more - worth getting a whole cake instead. The crunchy honeycomb bits are a nice texture contrast to the soft moist cake! Some bits have a burnt/bitter taste but this may be just me. Nonetheless I really enjoyed it - not too sweet as well.

The coffee crunch cake is legendary here. Though they are a bit smaller than before but they are just as yummy. And it's not even super sweet. You have to try it to really understand. These were my one birthday ask and I got it. I got 6 slices and it was $48. Worth every penny! This bake shop is located in a mini market towards the right as you walk in. Go check it out it worth the try if you haven't yet!

Ask the Community - Yasukochi's Sweet Stop

Do the crunch cakes contain any rice ingredient? I'm allergic to rice.

Does anyone know if the shop is back to its regular schedule? I stopped by last week and they were closed due to illness.

    Do you deliver?

Unfortunately, they do not, you have to pick it up yourself.

Do they ever answer the phone? I've tried over a span of weeks and multiple times during the day but no one answers so difficult to place an order of the phone as the website instructs and cannot swing by the store because we don't live nearby.

I were there and saw the owner taking an order over the phone but that was a month ago. You can try to call Super Mira Supermarket and find out as well since the sweet shop is located inside.

Do they ship these? I'm assuming probably not--bummer!--but I have to ask...

    What is the shelf life?

Depends on what item. Those bearing whipped cream will last three to four days refrigerated. Dry pastries probably five if you wrap them properly.

Since you're closed from Sunday to Tuesday, how do I keep the integrity and quality of coffee crunch cake if I pick it up on Saturday and need to serve it at dinner party on Monday?

The nice people at the bakery said, freeze it to keep it fresh!

Do they only sell coffee crunch cakes? Looking for a birthday cake.

No, they make a variety of excellent pastries, like cookies, danish, scones and swiss roll cakes. Perhaps call them to ask about ordering a birthday cake.

Hello! Is this business currently open? I've tried to call and order but no one picks up.

I would Call them before you go there but they are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Do they do like ubereats delivery or any delivery services? i mean i dont have a car and ubering there and uvering back costs about one cake price so i can never actually get the chance to taste it pls consider ubereat to deliver...?

Nope. And they sell out in morning

Is the coffee crunch cake caffeine heavy? i.e., keep you awake if eat at night.

I would say no had no effects of keeping me awake. Just sweet deliciousness.

    Do they make vegan cakes?

No, the coffee cakes and sponge cakes are very dairy based. They have additional baked goods but my guess would be they use butter.

How much are their whole cake?

Depends on the size. I believe I got a small round (served 7 people) for $30

How do I order for pickup if they are only open Thursday - Saturday?

You can call them to pre-order.

Do they still sell the chocolate crunch and lemon crunch cake?

You have to call to find out. It is different everyday. I called Wednesday for Saturday pick up, they had chocolate crunch but not lemon crunch or Strawberry roll.

Are they still open during covid?

They just opened back up on 5/21 with limited opening hours: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10am-4pm

Can you preorder a cake? If so, how far in advance?

They told us 24 hours ahead non-event week but best to call 48 hours just to be sure you get yours! :)

Does the coffee crunch cake have nuts?

No nuts but if your allergic you shouldn't risk it . They do make other treats there that's may contain nuts

I went around 12:15pm on a Saturday, and the line was short (comparatively) and moved quickly! Pro tip: keep up with their instagram stories because they occasionally post live updates about the line/supply! It only took around 15 minutes to reach the front. Another tip: decide what you're going to get & some back up options (in case they sell out of your first choice options) so you don't hold up the line deciding at the cashier! I think that is the main reason the line sometimes moves slow. Because tbh once you put in your order, it takes like 3 minutes for them to pack it up. I tried 3 pastries from the July menu: Skirt Steak Croissant, Madame Lorraine, and Peach & Sweet Corn Cruffin. I also wanted to try the Bruschetta Danish, but they were sold out of that one. I was definitely most excited about the Skirt Steak from the beginning, and it was indeed my favorite! The croissant was so flakey buttery crispy, it was actually perfection. I love the chipotle aioli and arugula pesto sauces. Wow one of the best pastries I've ever eaten. The madame lorraine was my second favorite. I'm biased though because I love salty a lot more than sweet. The pork was so tasty in this one, and I really liked the parmesan toppings. I don't even like runny egg yolks, but it worked so well with this pastry. The peach & sweet corn cruffin was a little too sweet for me but the peach and corn flavors worked sooo surprisingly well. I NEED to come back to try their other pastries wow. It is 100% worth the hype.

The Peach Corn Cruffin was even more disappointing, it was more like apple than peach, the fruit was still crisp and undercooked. Crisp peach? And the cream had a sour note that threw the whole pastry off. The Bruschetta Danish was the standout of the box. The Plum Vanilla Almond Twice-Baked Croissant oddly reminded me more of a PB&J than an almond-plum pastry. The pastries definitely photograph better than they eat. I really wanted to love this place, but I don't think the hype matches the experience. Are there good pastries here? Probably... um, sure. (?) But are those worth the wait and the reputation? It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.
