My family and I have been going here for a couple of years now and have loved every cake we have gotten. I remember trying the mango cheesecake as well. It wasn't too sweet and the cheesecake didn't feel too heavy like other cheesecakes do- this goes for the strawberry cheesecake as well. I would say that the strawberry tastes better than the mango because the mango was a bit sour. The tiramisu mousse cake is a family favorite and we have gotten it a few times now. It's perfectly balanced and not too sweet (which is very important lol). The workers are super kind and when I went to pick up a cake once, the lady gave me a couple free cream puffs. There is no seating so this is definitely the place where you get your sweet treat and go somewhere else. Note that parking can be a bit hard to find. It was a rainy Monday when I was walking along Clement Street and noticed Schubert's was open. The glass cases were mostly empty, but I saw a sign for 30% off all whole cakes and slices. There was also a small sign indicating they were day-old cakes, and the cashier mentioned they're open until 2:30 PM on Mondays (they're usually closed Mondays and Tuesdays). I didn't feel like getting a cake, so I went with a Hazelnut Nutmeg Cookie ($1.10) and a Black & White Shortbread ($1.10). Both were very good and not stale, even when I ate them the next day. I especially liked the Black & White Shortbread. I would come back on a Monday--maybe next time I'll try one of the cakes at 30% off. read more

The cakes are pretty good, but we had such an unpleasant experience with the girl that helped us. We came in and waited in line. Got called up. She asked us what we wanted and when we said one thing she kept rudely saying what else before we even had a chance to tell her what else. They had 50% off cakes and then we asked her the flavors. Then we asked how much they would be and she said look at the board, 50% off that. I think her coworker realized how rude she was being and intervened and let us know the price. We asked her what cake this particular one since it didn't have a label was and she goes same as the one on the bottom, read the label. She spent more effort saying that rather than just stating the name of the cake. We got ended up getting three cakes, the strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse and princess cake. I have ordered from here many times over the years including my wedding cake back about 11 years ago. So I figure its time for a review! The cake that I recently got was good tasting but it really made my stomach hurt every time I ate it. We did finish it but something was a bit off. It was smaller then I remember it being and there may have been a layer of cake missing in the middle. I think I remember the cakes being 3 layers of cake with creme or filling in between??? It was advertised as having strawberry filling which it did not have. The cake we ordered this time was chocolate with strawberry's & whipping cream frosting. There was very little strawberry like maybe 10 -15 slices on top and not inside the filling or any other part of the cake so it lacked balance and acidity to break up the rich cream inside. I've been to Schubert's a few times, and I'm incredibly disappointed. Schubert's is located in inner Richmond in the San Francisco area, and initially was highly recommended as one of the better bakeries to go to for special occasion cakes. A cake can really make or break that special occasion, and they succeeded in ruining one. I had ordered over the phone, and ordered based on what sounded good, and what was suggested. The cakes are very pricey, and frankly overpriced. What may have been wonderful in years past, hasn't been my experience. The store staff is off putting, unwelcoming, and I dare say rude. I picked up my order ( mango mousse) for a birthday celebration. I had requested candles in a certain color, and was presented candles in silver. " That's all we have" it would have been proper to let me know upfront when I placed the order, and was told " no problem". The cake was horrible. All of it. The mango flavor tasted like tin/metal. The actual cake was dry and tasted like freezer burn. It was inedible. It was also $75.00. There MUST be better bakeries that offer delicious birthday cakes in the San Francisco area. Ordered for pick up 24 hour before. I opted for the 6 in Swedish princess cake but with ivory marzipan. The person taking my order over the phone made sure the spelling of the words and names were all correct. Pick up process was easy - walked up to the register and told them my name. This bakery does have several spots for seating. They have a little sample tray in front as well. I noticed adding lettering was an extra $2 if you do it there but it wasnt charged for mine so seems like ordering in advance is the way to go! There were still plenty of variety and sizes of cake available on display when I got there at 3pm so I would think it's possible to do last min cake pick up too Cake was nicely decorated and tasted soft and fluffy inside. Only the outside marzipan layer was sweet. Price for the princess cake here is $2-$3 more than other places in SF but considering you can opt for another color here other than green is worth it to me! read more

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE W/ GNACHE (5/5) First an foremost, Schubert ensures that all of their cakes are beautifully decorated regardless of how big or small the cake is. This cake was a chocolate lover's dream, with a thin layer of chocolate cake at the bottom, a thick layer of airy chocolate mousse in the center, and a decadent layer of dark chocolate ganache to top everything off. This is much more mousse-forward than the truffle torte cake. TIRAMISU (3.5/5) Again, this is beautifully decorated. Someone else mentioned this is more of a tiramisu CAKE than a tiramisu, and I completely agree. The mascarpone is light and airy, but I found the cake layers at the bottom to be too prominent and unfortunately dry. The lady fingers on the outside of the cake were also a bit dry for my preference, though they certainly add to the aesthetic of the cake. The coffee liqueur in the cake was a little too strong for my liking as well. The store itself is larger than I expected, and neat and organized. A friend recommended this place some time ago, and we decided to stop by after an early morning walking the Golden Gate Bridge. The bakery is on a pretty busy street with other restaurants and stores nearby. The display case was full of different desserts and has something for everyone, whether you prefer something more fruit-forward or chocolate-forward. The employees behind the counter were super attentive helping our party and other customers. There are a few tables inside, and luckily a table opened up just as we finished paying. We opted for the mini versions of the chocolate mousse cake and the tiramisu cake since we had just eaten prior. The chocolate mousse cake was amazing!, It was light and had the perfect balance of sweetness. The chocolate curls on the outside added a nice crunchy texture to the mousse. Oh man oh man does this bakery bring me back memories. I would always come get a cake for any special occasion back in my childhood days. Ever since I've moved, this bakery has been a staple. I had a sweet tooth cravings and since I was in town, I brought my boyfriend there to try their cakes. Service here is quick! It's organized and the employees are quick to help out to get your order when you're ready. I love their tiramisu so I got that and my boyfriend got the chocolate mousse with chocolate shavings. The 8 x 12 sheet cake was the perfect size for a group of ~15-20 people. I absolutely loved my strawberry shortcake! It tasted so delicious, moist, and fresh. Everyone also raved about how beautifully decorated the cake was. Customer service was without a doubt fantastic. We initially placed the cake order online, but we couldn't type in the entire message we wanted on the cake because we maxed out on the character limit on the online form. When we went to pick up the cake in person, we asked if the staff was able to add in a second part of text, and they happily did it. It was great to learn more about the business and story through the interview questions format. I live nearby and love the cakes here. And here on Clement Street since the 1940s! Metered street parking. Free residential parking a few blocks away if you are lucky. Open 5 days a week from 9am to 4pm or 5pm, closed Monday and Tuesdays. The most beautiful cakes here been around longer than Victoria Pastry Co. The helpers are awesome and quite helpful .They do kinda have sketchy hours anyways for me . You need a nice cake you come here . There are not many tables it's mostly a to go arrangement. They sell cookies croissants and different specialty cakes you might want to order on line .I was there again today cause I was surprised that they were open . Schubert's Bakery is a charming spot located along the busy foot-traffic area of Clement Street. The staff inside are very kind and eager to give recommendations, which made my visit even better. I came late in the afternoon on a Sunday, and unfortunately, many items were already sold out--so I definitely need to come back earlier to try their cake slices, like the Black Forest cake or their shortcakes! A local highly recommended the German cheesecake, saying it's hard to find anywhere else, so I gave it a try. It was good and tasted like a solid cheesecake should, but it didn't quite live up to the hype I was given. That said, I think their real specialty lies in their cookies, tarts, and cakes. My friend got a cream puff and absolutely raved about it--so fresh and delicious they ate it too fast for a photo! Prior to Covid Schubert's had inside seating available. I was disappointed that they didn't bring any back at all. There is a wood bench affair outside but if the weather is bad then nowhere to enjoy your treat ‍. With that said, for me, it's all about their Princess Cake. Amazing bakery! This is a must each year for my mom's birthday celebration. The personnel is very helpful making sure that you receive the service needed. I love to have each cake with custom detail and they do that exactly as I want it. I can be picky at times. The bakery has two areas where a customer can pick up items that have been pre ordered or a line where you can choose to pick what you would like. Not noisy at all, their service keeps lines moving along pretty fast. The Swedish princess cake is a must for my mom's birthday each year. This year I also picked up a mango mousse cake that was so delicious! From my experience, I been buying cakes at Schubert's for years and each cake is soft, moist and not overly sweet. That is what I love the most. I can't do overly sweet cakes. The mango mousse was a total surprise. Just attended a memorable birthday party where this raspberry creme birthday cake was served and I kid you not, after taking a first bite of birthday cake served ... the person next to me and I looked at each other and the look in our eyes was saying "this is THE best cake I have ever eaten!" A light, not too sweet yet bursting with raspberry flavor with a layer of almond paste. I was told this type of cake is made at many different bakeries of various quality and variations; called a "Princess cake".
