Is the name of this bakery chain a remnant of the propaganda era in China? Probably not but it kinda sounds like a slogan meant to inspire harvests of eternal prosperity for the rural proletariat. Anyway, I know I can usually find something sweet here to finish off some savory meal nearby like the beef noodle soup at Yuanbao Jiaozi or the chicken pho at Pho Huynh Hiep. I went to town this time and got three things. The $2 Coffee Cake was good but too heavy even for me. It came rolled with an especially sweet icing slathered inside (photo: https://yelp.to/y_WGDJuEL1). I got more satisfaction from the $1.80 Coconut Tart which was not overly eggy or sweet with plenty of coconut shavings baked into the filling (photo: https://yelp.to/k1-dPnfyLC). My favorite was the simplest, the $1.50 Milk Cake, of which two comes in a packet (photo: https://yelp.to/ARsK9ZPpNk). Bring me the tongs. So much fruit!

This is my family's go to bakery in SF for Chinese baked goods. The service is no frills and surprisingly they take credit cards. Our go to baked items are the ham and egg sandwich, cocktail bun, mini muffins and the hot dog bun. Prices are very reasonable for today's prices. We also get our celebration cakes here as well and the fruit cakes are a major standout! We usually get the 8 inch mixed fruit cake which is very good. This latest time we preordered a 10 inch one which was ready in a huge box at pick up. We thought they maybe gave us the wrong cake or there was lots of empty space in the box. Boy were we wrong! The cake was huge and sooo beautifully decorated full of fresh cut mangoes, blue berries, strawberries, cantaloupe, kiwis and honeydew. We were amazed by how much fruit there was! We will definitely continue to come here for our cakes and baked goods!

Small bakery but filled with a variety of Chinese pastries! Fancy wheat field has multiple locations in San Francisco. I usually go to the one on San Bruno Ave which is the first store but I was closer to this location in the Sunset district this day. As this is ran by Chinese aunties that are a bit older in age with limited English speaking skills, you have to be patient. They are trying their best to help but do not expect them to fully answer any questions if you can't speak Chinese. There's a small language barrier but they are trying their best! I have never had an issue buying from them and I have been going for years! Grab what you want onto the tray and bring it up to pay. I believe it is cash only so be prepared! I absolutely love the egg tarts here, they are delicious! Must try if you are in the area. Workers are super sweet and they got me some new egg tarts from the back trays! Try this place out as I think they are much better than the other bakeries on the street!

Today I bought a pack of Winter Melon Pastries and one Coconut Custard Bun for a snack. It was so yummy. Service - pretty much the same - no improvement Bad :(

The ratings for this bakery is all over the place and I think this is because it depends on your expectations. First of all, Wheatfield is very cramped. It's so small that you can't even see half of the products because the queue line blocks half of the store. They need a size like Sheng Kee up the street because they seem to be producing almost the same amount of products. The customer service can vary depending on the level you're used to getting from an American establishment but if you're used to dealing with typical Asian bakeries, you should know what you're getting into. This is a self service bakery where everything is made fresh and individually packaged. I do like coming to browse their new cake selections and today we found an interesting tiramisu filled in a pot for $4.95 Tasted like your typical tiramisu so this was really just for the novelty. Now whenever I stop by here, I always ALWAYS get a Portuguese tart. It's $2 for a tiny little 3 bite tart but trust me -- it is and will be -- the best tart you've ever had! Never have I ever had a tart with a crunchy buttery crust... omg it's like they fried the shell in butter! The filling is the softest jiggly egg flavor with just enough sweetness to balance the salty butter. I try to make this last but sadly it is so small and if I got a dozen, I would surely eat it all and gain 12lbs... so now you know. Check out Wheatfield and decide for yourself

Small fruit cake, comes with 8 candles, plates, fork, and knife

Tldr: great cakes AND great baked goods. Wow their cake is so much better than 85C bakery! I can taste the egg in the sponge cake and sooo much fresh fruit on the top AND inside. With 85C bakery cakes, I feel I'm just ingesting tons of sugar. Their truck was parked close by and I can see they are unloading tons of fresh fruit for their future cakes! We didn't order in advance and grabbed a cake from the display. $23 comes with candles, knife, utensils, and plates. I wanted to try there baked goods. Wow! Delicious! I think this is the best black sesame bun I've ever had because of the punch of sesame flavor in the paste and the crunchy addition of walnuts. Taro in the bun was really fresh. The cheese bread was savory and not greasy. Would definitely come back. The quality was so fresh. $10 minimum for credit cards!

My parents surprised me for my birthday today with a cake from Fancy Wheatfield Bakery. None of us had ever been to this bakery before, but my parents apparently decided to give it a try as they work in the neighborhood. First impression was that the box was very sturdy and very fancy. Inside, there is a side compartment that contains additional paper plates, forks, serving knife, and even birthday candles! We got the mango fruit cake, and it comes very well made with many layers of thinly cut mangos consisting of the "shell". It was definitely a very pretty and delicious to boot! According to my mom, the prices here for baked goods are actually cheaper than Sheng Kee. And it turns out, they actually have 3 locations in the city. Will definitely have to swing by sometime when I find myself back in SF.

They put everything in plastic bag during COVID precaution time

This place is a gem. They don't have super fancy cakes or pastries but they have the most essential ones with very reasonable prices. I used to live just crossed the street and I just came here almost every week because it's super convenient, I didn't realize how great it was back then. Now that I already moved to another area, I still come here every month to grab as many of my favorites as I can, because it's really worth it. You will never go wrong with the coconut bun, pork floss bun, sponge cake, and wait, don't forget to get their big pineapple bun, only $.90, you know it's a STEAL! NOTE: Remember to bring your cash, because they don't take cards. But you don't really need a lot, you can eat pastries for a week with $10! Definitely my go-to neighborhood bakery. P/s: In order to follow the COVID precaution rules, they put every single item in a bag, that I appreciated it a lot.

The cake barely fitting in the trunk!

I arrived shortly after 10:00 AM and was 4th in line with people continuing to get in line behind me. A staff member would signal for the next customer to come in when she was done with the previous customer. I asked for 2 plain croissants and a chocolate almond croissant. The croissants were placed in individual bags and then a medium sized bag with a handle. The bag had an Arsicault Bakery sticker. The croissants smelled wonderful on my 40 minutes walk back. The croissants were soft and flaky on the outside and the preserve found its way into the layered pockets of the croissant. The croissants were well worth the walk.

I've gone a few times around 10-11 AM and gotten through the line pretty quickly, plus they've never been sold out of anything. Another plus of this location is its proximity to Golden Gate Park; when the weather is nice it's great to pick up pastries from here, find a grassy area in the park to put down a blanket, and have a mini picnic. My favorite thing to get here is the chocolate almond croissant, especially since it's fairly unique and not too many other bakeries do it. Everything is perfect from the almond filling, the flaky croissant, the crunchy baked almond filling on top, and the melted chocolate. It's pretty heavy and dense though, even when hungry I can only get through half of it. It's still good later on (even after a day or two) but nothing beats it fresh. I also like to get the plain croissant and their kouign amann. The kouign amann has the same buttery, flaky layers as the croissant and has this caramelized sugar coating that I love. Don't love their chocolate chip cookie - too much chocolate and not enough cookie. But everything else I've tried from their is so worth the drive over, line, and prices.

The preorder box came with randomized drops of what's in season that week, our small box came with Herby Olive Twist, Coffee Caramel Pain Au Chocolat, Strawberry Rhubarb Cruffin, Lamb Pain Suisse. The pastries: they really got their lamination down. The pastry shell is amazingly crispy and really good layers regardless of the type of toppings or fillings it has. The flavor combinations were fun and familiar. It's like getting some of your favorite foods being converted into a croissant. Of the ones we tried I really enjoyed the salty ones like the olive twist and lamb, I was impressed how well the pastry kept crispy even with the sauces. The sweet ones like the caramel were too sweet for me to even finish, but that can be personal preference. After trying all these fun flavors I still think the highlight is def the pastry, will need to try the original croissant next time! Ambiance: the vibe of the bakery was great, lots of hard working ladies and feels like they are passionate about what they do. Bright and airy with lots of pink accents. Definitely go early to get everything fresh, but you probably won't run into a line if you don't. Highlight of the menu was absolutely the kouign amann - it was so buttery and flaky with this caramelized sticky sweet inside, rivaled in my eyes only by the Arsicault one. We also got the seasonal one (raspberry and guava) which was also really good. The passion fruit bostock was also interesting with this spongy cakey texture with an almond topping. The banana chocolate almond croissant was another favorite of mine, it's also such a unique item and definitely a must order. We sat inside at a table so we could eat some of the pastries right away which I highly recommend - everything lost freshness after a few hours and I probably wouldn't get anything from here again with the intention of eating it later. They have a ton of cakes too, tried the chocolate mousse cake, the berry cake, and the passionfruit orange and guava cake. The chocolate mousse was my favorite and runs on the sweeter side compared to other chocolate mousse's I've had. The other two are also amazing and have a bunch of different layers. I also tried the prosciutto burrata and cherry tomato tartine - an open faced sandwich basically - which tasted good but was kind of difficult to eat, either with hands or fork and knife. Would definitely come here again both because what I tried was so good and there are so many other things there I'd want to try.
