This is your typical old school Chinese bakery. The prices are affordable compared to some of the bakeries in Chinatown. Walking in felt nostalgic while having fond memories grabbing pastries on the go with family since we love HK pastries. The lady running the shop was friendly and welcoming. You can't go wrong with their classic offerings like egg tarts, cocktail buns, and pineapple buns. The pastries may not be aesthetically pleasing since they are simple looking, but the taste makes up it all up. Don't let that fool you! I tried the flower sponge cake and sadly it was bit dry where it was a bit hard to swallow despite how soft and spongy it is. I visited an hour before closing, so perhaps this was not their fresh batch. Their cakes look good, so I'd come back for their birthday cakes next time. Last weekend was the end of one of my favorite and biggest annual festivals in San Francisco in Japantown which is the Cherry Blossom Festival. What if I told you can go to the Cherry Blossom everyday of the week and you don't need a Time Machine to be transported in the past or in the future. You don't have to travel to the biggest Cherry Blossom festival which happens every year in April at Americas capital Washington D.C and San Francisco's Japantown . This particular Cherry Blossom is known to have lots of buns and I get Déjà vu thinking about it. Located in San Francisco on Clement street it's called the Cherry Blossom Bakery. On a Spring stroll on Clement street I landed at the Cherry Blossom Bakery. Inside Cherry Blossom you won't find any anime , Pokémon ,Hello Kitty , origami or soba noodles but you will see lots of bunnies ( Not the Easter Bunny). There are all kinds of buns to choose from including a raisin bun. I decided to try their pineapple bun. It was a bit flakey like some in SF but it was so soft you can squeeze it. The buns were so tasty. I also tried the onion bun which was savory and soft and my new favorite . It was so good. I also tried their egg custard tarts and they were creamy and soft in the middle but got a flakey crust like some in SF. They were delicious and not too sweet. I knew before coming back to Cherry blossom that the egg tarts were not the way they used to be. We got here this morning and my husband ordered four eight tarts and I immediately ate my warm egg tart. It was not as good as it used to be. The crust was soggy and tasted only of grease. The egg custard itself was not custardy but had just a sweet plain egg flavor. A good egg custard tart should have a flakey non-greasy crust and a rich custardy flavor. Stumbled into Cherry Blossom Bakery while walking around Richmond after lunch. The lady behind the counter was quick, and efficient. And the bakery was bright with natural sunshine from their large windows. They have a bunch of baked goodies on display. Seeing they had egg tarts, I bought a few. Also bought banana rolls, because it's a childhood nostalgic sweet treat. I brought them home and their tarts were still warm! The custard was soft and creamy and the crust was flakey! Like most egg tarts, they weren't too sweet. Though reading other reviews, the tarts are inconsistent. I thought the crust was flakey, while others have said it wasn't flakey. Maybe I got a new batch that just came out of the oven. If it was in the fridge, I would heat it up in the toaster oven for it to taste better. And the banana rolls were also good and chewy and not as sweet as the ones I used to get in Chinatown. I'd rather have it less sweet than too sweet. You get 3 for $4.25. I was so sad I only discovered this bakery on my last day here. Came in the AM and everything was freshly baked and you can definitely tell since everything feels light and fluffy and some buns were still warm. My favorites were the pineapple custard bun and BBQ pork bun. I will definitely be back to try more next chance I get! I've been eating a lot of these pastries recently, but Cherry Blossom Bakery does stand out in service and taste! On a weekday afternoon, my friends and I were welcomed into the bakery and had a wide selection of pasties to choose from. We grabbed almost a dozen pineapple buns with some other miscellaneous pastries, including their BBQ Pork Puff Pastry and Sponge Cake. The BBQ Pork Puff Pastry was flaky and crispy, and the pork filling inside was quite delicious! The Sponge Cake also had a good texture, being light and not too dense. When making a trip to San Francisco, no visit is complete without visiting an authentic family owned-and-operated bakery. This takes me to "Cherry Blossom Bakery", a staple in the Inner Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco. From my knowledge, this is their original location while their newer spot opened around 2016 off of Ocean Ave in the Ingleside neighborhood. Going back to this spot, they are situated directly on Clement St. and tucked in between 9th & 10th Ave. If you decide on driving here, parking can be a challenge so it is best to arrive by rideshare as well as Muni buses that drop you off nearby. The hours of operation are quite generous as they are open 7 days a week from 6am-6:30pm which are very respectable times to get your savory sweets during sunrise or possibly a late-afternoon snack before the evening hours kick in. Keep in mind that this is a cash ONLY business so make sure you bring those $1's, $5's, and other bills when paying the cashier. I also wanted to add that there is no indoor seating here. The bakery itself is small but well lit and at any given time, you will see a ton of savory baked goods. What makes this place special is that much of their dough-filled treats are loaded with a ton of protein-packed foods including chicken, pork, beef, and other various fillings. Some of the more popular rolls include BBQ Pork Rolls, Durian (fruit filled) Rolls, Chicken Pies, Wrapped Hot Dogs, and much more. And as for the baked goods, you can find just about anything and everything including cupcakes, croissants, cakes, cookies, moon cakes, egg tarts, and much more. I've eaten at quite a bit of bakeries in San Francisco and the Bay Area for that matter. This place might be small but there's a BIG variety of options here. The sweet ladies that work behind the counter were friendly, attentive and patient as my lady and I decided to take a bag filled with treats on our drive home (which is in Sacramento). We ate an egg tart that same day while enjoying the fresh baked croissant the following day for breakfast. We also tried one of their Cream Rolls and a Mini Custard Bun; all at very reasonable prices. All in all, "Cherry Blossom Bakery" is a must try and excellent small business worth checking out. The owner replied to my review but added in BS without checking facts. Please check the camera. Owner said the cashier charged me for egg tarts because it was mentioned; however, I never mentioned it as I don't eat egg tarts. The cashier is also the same lady as the one taking my order, packing the box, and collecting the cash so she knows she didn't pack me egg tarts. No confusion there. Thi neighborhood bakery has good pastries and variety. Like to come here for my favorite pineapple bun, green onion, and egg custard. Their egg custard were hands down the best in the city except for chinatown fanous Grant Ave bakery thats a hit or miss if they're open or closed for vacation..
