DB's features an EXTENSIVE menu, full of every imaginable comfort food entree one can think of... burgers, seafood, deli sandwiches, Italian, etc. Two thoughts immediately hit you: 1) Too many options. Can't decide what to order. 2) They can't possibly do this many things well. #1 might be a correct assumption... and yet, I did not go catatonic from the overwhelming number of options and did indeed order an entree. And limited research suggests #2 is also a false assumption. ALL the varied entrees consumed by my dining party (fish sandwich, patty melt, salmon, Portabello burger, meatloaf, Tuscan chicken sandwich) were rated "very good" or "excellent." My husband and I had lunch there a few weeks ago. We had good service and found the food tasty and the portions were on the large side. He had a salad and I had a soup and sandwich combo. We went back last night a party of eight for dinner and Peter was our server, he was attentive and friendly, he even brought us some items from the pickle bar to sample, the cucumber onion salad and the pasta salad were delicious. Everyone ordered something different and some had to go boxes as the portions are plentiful. I had the mussels appetizer and a side Greek salad. Both were great. My husband had a sandwich with potato salad on the side, I had some of his potato salad on my Greek salad, yummy. The prices are reasonable we will definitely be back. Since moving to Ormond Beach nearly 2 years ago DB Pickles has been a go to place for us. It's really an old school New York diner and attached bakery which serves up comfort food really well. The food is good whether you like Jewish, or Italian, old school steaks and chops, huge omelette breakfasts or just a hamburger or a hot dog, you won't go wrong here. The staff is friendly, like family which makes you feel welcome whether you go there every day or if its your first time through the door. They also offer a huge pickle bar which is closed now due to the pandemic, but your server will bring out for you I have to say that they have the best half-sour pickles that I've had anywhere in Florida. Every bit as good as your favorite Jewish restaurant in Brooklyn. The soups are also very good as well as the chili. You can get half a sandwich and soup and it won't put a dent in your pocket book. My favorite there is the pastrami. It's hot and moist and they don't trim the fat off too much. Their full stack pastrami sandwiches are like $9.99. Is it as huge as Katz's in New York, No, But is ain't setting you back $25 bucks either. I also have to mention the French Fries. I mean DB Pickels French Fries. Why would I mention this because its a staple of everything you can get everywhere, It's because DB Pickles French Fries are THE BEST ANYWHERE, Heaping hot and crunchy, as in CRISPY. Easily a meal in itself. If you go just get them as a side and you'll understand. I also would be remiss if I didn't mention their bakery. As a diabetic, my blood sugar goes up just smelling the goodness of their cakes, cookies, and home made pastries. Everything is made on site. Special mention has to go to DB Pickles Cannolis. On very special occasions my wife lets me get one, maybe two, if I've been good. If you're from New York you know what I'm talking about. It's heaven. The restrooms at DB Pickles are very clean and handicap friendly. They even have a button that opens the door for you. I was visiting friends near Daytona & we thought any place with 'Pickle' in its name is probably a fun place to try. We were correct. This restaurant looks like it's been around for awhile. Covid has apparently altered the way they do business. They used to have a pickle, olive, & salad bar to belly up to & supplement your meal. Now that bar is scaled down with fewer options & signs stating it's not open to the customers. Instead the wait staff will bring you 2 small helpings from the bar as you await your entree. I requested broccoli salad, which was tasty but a little too mayo-heavy, & I requested half-sour pickles. The bowls didn't hold much, but it was fun receiving them. So the menu is full of other fun items, including much of what you'd find at a Jewish deli up north. I intended to get matzoh ball soup, but they were out of it. The waitstaff is attentive and are always friendly with a good sense of humor. I especially enjoy dining outside when I go here. Not sure what happened here but the food quality and service has went to hell. Went here a few weeks back with the family for a meal. My wife and daughters sandwiches were inedible, just plain gross. I had what was supposed to be corn beef and cabbage. It was cold, mushy and I did not eat any part of it. Upon noticing that our meals were untouched the server asked what the issue was, we told her and asked for our check. She said the manager was going to comp us dessert, we said no just give us our check so we could get going. She came with our check and said that the manager took off 50% of the bill. Way to go! The cake tasted old, hard and cold. The waitress did not even heat up the cake before serving it.
