Lobster roll with fries and coleslaw
    Nina Z.

Even though there is great variety on the menu, my husband and I both ordered the hot lobster roll which came with fries and coleslaw. It was absolutely delicious. All of it. Lobster roll, fries and slaw! Service was pleasant and quick. The little spot even has some tables and booths to sit inside to get a break from the sun. If I'm in the area again, I'd eat here again. Highly recommend!

Got SUCH a good lobster roll here! It was the perfect lunch for the beach and super close to pick up. The lobster-Mayo ratio was perfect and the chunks of lobster were the perfect size. No unnecessary celery or other fillers in there. The fries were crisp and well salted, and the coleslaw was a refreshing bite in between the roll and fries. I also tried the crab cake sandwich, which was also great, just not as refreshing on the beach because it is hot. My family ordered from here a couple of days in a row because we were so impressed!

Things are still weird at restaurants as the world starts to reopen after Covid. We found this place via Yelp, because we were in Bethany and I wanted a low key casual seafood dinner. I wanted the experience we'd had in other beach towns of being near the ocean and having a variety of yummy things. This place is tucked in the back of a weird mall sort of building. We weren't sure how it worked or what to expect. We stepped into an area with a counter and a HUGE menu written on a chalkboard wall. It was confusing-- like too many different options, in varying sizes, but all sort of the same. We ordered a ridiculous amount of food for 2 people: clam strips, scallops, shrimp cocktail, crab balls and a lobster roll. The kitchen area is right behind the counter where we ordered so it was easy to see that they were busy. There seemed to be a lot of to-go and takeout orders. There also seemed to be an excessive number of people in a small area and the person who took our order didn't really seem to know what she was doing. She had to ask someone cooking how to add a couple of the things we wanted to our order via the register. No big deal. Then we sat in their dining room, adjacent to the ordering/kitchen space. There was some soccer game on the tv in the corner and the volume was turned WAYYYYYYY up. It was annoying enough until the game ended and we got to hear the same loop of music and information over and over again, while we waited 30 minutes for our food, before someone in the kitchen changed the channel. The food was exactly what we expected from what we ordered and we enjoyed it all. It was a little pricey, but that was also expected, given the location. I see that others have said the dining room was dirty. We did not experience that. My look into the kitchen also found it to be up to cleanliness standards.

Literal hole in the wall... in a mall. Was pretty confused trying to find the place. The people working were very kind and they have seating off to the side. But to get to the point, we got two warm lobster rolls which came with fries and coleslaw. Coleslaw was eh, fries were crunchy but the lobster roll... it was pretty dry, which was a little off putting since we had high expectations. You're better off going across the street to mason's. However, we did get the cheese curds which were delicious but kinda over priced considering the portion size.

So so good we went every day! The crab balls, crab cream soup, soft shell crab tacos, and ceasar salad were fantastic. It takes 20 mins so you can call ahead to order.

The food here was phenomenal. It's in a humble setting, but don't let that deter you - we had incredibly fresh and delicious scallops, fried shrimp & crab cakes. Truly excellent. And the fries and coleslaw were great, too. Quick, no-nonsense, and delicious.

My friend and I looked up the review for this place and decided we had to come here for lunch. We called them ahead of time so the food would be ready for pickup. I gotta say, the hot lobster roll is pretty damn good. They didn't skimp, and the bread tasted pretty good. Wish I grabbed some hot butter but it's all good. The fries were also delicious (I kept downing them with the coleslaw). I also tried the oyster roll and that was also solid. Definitely an awesome place to eat a lobster or oyster roll. Note: this location is inside the building. They have a booth that is outside just a few steps away but that's always packed so if you want it fast, order ahead of time from the inside location.

Yummy place!! I really wanted to get a warm lobster roll (hard to find since they're usually the cold kind) and I wasn't let down. Great portion but definitely pricey. To be expected with lobster though so I didn't mind - this was a nice treat. Lobster is quite rich to me, so this whole roll is a lot. I got cornbread on the side and it was delicious. The coleslaw was great too. I would definitely come back here for other items on the menu too. I haven't been to Bethany Beach for years, so not sure when I'd return. But I would recommend this spot to people visiting.

I was visiting the area for work, and after seeing reviews about this place here on Yelp, had to check it out! It's a no-frills seafood place right on the corner in the main town center. Walked up, ordered food, and they had it out pretty quickly on both my visits. I had the lobster roll (cold) which was AMAZING. My second visit I had the shrimp po boy which also was delicious (the shrimp on it were huge!!!) but the lobster was my favorite. Fries: they give you lots of them and good thing because they are tasty! Definitely give this place a try if you're in the area!

This spot is worth the stop and the wait. I got lobster rolls and they were so delicious and the fries were perfect. Highly recommend coming here if you are in the area.

Our first visit took place on Mother's Day around 4:00 PM. Because brunch was still being served and dinner didn't begin until 4:15 PM, I booked a table for two, and we passed the time at the bar. We caught some live music while I enjoyed a $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan before settling the bar tab. Once dinner service opened at 4:15 PM, we were seated inside at table 45 to escape a breezy outdoor deck. It turned out to be the debut day for their new menu. I ordered another $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan and the $36 seafood stew--a rich combination of fish, clams, shrimp, fennel, pepper, onion, Spanish chorizo, and tomato seafood broth accompanied by grilled bread. It was a generous portion, so I brought the remaining stew home to enjoy later that evening. To conclude the meal, I tried the Lucky 7 porter from Evolution Craft Brewing Company ($7), which featured dark dried fruit and sweet toffee tones balanced by notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Our server, Brendan V., did an excellent job caring for us and demonstrated great knowledge of the new menu, even while managing a large outdoor table with five children. Our total bill for that evening came to $114, excluding gratuity. We returned on Memorial Day for a second dinner, this time in a group of five that included family and a friend visiting from Scottsdale, AZ. Since the outdoor fire tables were completely full, we secured a table on the left side of the restaurant. I began with a spicy mango margarita for $14, which featured tequila, mango, lime, agave, jalapeno, and a tajin rim, and opted for the $36 seafood stew once again. Unfortunately, the cocktails were inconsistent this time; I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan up, but it tasted like watered-down bourbon. When a second Manhattan tasted exactly the same, I decided to cancel the order. Nevertheless, our server Nadine K. provided excellent service throughout the evening, and our bill came out to $92 before gratuity. Ultimately, we all agreed that we would gladly visit again.

All food had outstanding flavor and all things were cooked perfectly. The short rib rub was thoughtfully done and you didn't even need a knife to cut though it. We also loved the creativity of the fruity pebbles in the dessert. We came back tonight determined to try their food. We came in with two groups eating and waited to be seated for about 4 minutes before someone came to seat us. Felt odd for the wait but it appeared there were only two people to begin with. Upon being seated, we were served water which is what we wanted and we placed our order. I loved the fish cutouts they had on the wall next to us. Took about 10-15 minutes for our food. We started with the pizza and it was exactly what we wanted. Simple but the flavors were there! Pesto, garlic and the mozzarella cheese that pulled apart string style! Maybe could have been a crispier crust but I was happy to have all those components hit the mark. We dug into the pasta and OH MY GOSH!!! Again, the simplicity of this dish with perfectly balanced flavors. The basil and the garlic on point! Oh and the sauce, light and a refreshing hit with lemon. Shrimp and scallops not over cooked. I kid you not, I would have licked this plate clean if my husband wasn't with me! I cannot fathom why we were the only ones in this restaurant because both dishes were delicious!!! Thank you so much for feeding our seafood cravings. WE WILL BE BACK! Only sad that we found it our last night here. Do yourself a favor, please support this restaurant. This has been added to our MUST GO TO places while visiting.

The highlights (and lowlights): The service was awful: We arrived at 5:17 and were seated at 5:22. Drinks took 26 minutes to deliver and the order was wrong. My FiL clearly asked for a Pinot Grigio, but a Sangria was delivered. Cody, the server*, politely repeated that he ordered the Sangria, but that did not happen (my FiL drinks only dry wines). We waited to toast my in-laws anniversary, but had to wait another 7-8 minutes for the correct glass of wine to be delivered. There is no attention to detail in the dining room. The staff are on island time. The first appetizer arrived at 6:08--46 minutes after we sat down! At 6:20, I bussed our table. (After dinner, I bussed our table a second time). Even trying to pay the check Cody was MIA. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.
