It's a walk up counter, so we could stop for a snack despite having our pup in tow. Recommendation: get your fries in a bag, sprinkling in the Seasoning or salt, shake, and enjoy. read more

I was craving fried clams. They are so hard to find! The ordering was confusing. 10 Oz,12 Oz, platter??? Who knows. I decided to get the biggest platter and share with my husband. It was the 21oz platter I think. It was perfect to share, but it wasn't good enough to finish, at least they were nice enough to give us an extra box. That worked out because there are no tables, so you have to eat standing up, or find a bench. The fries were delicious, the coleslaw was excellent. The fried Clams were a total waste of money. They were all tiny breaded pieces of completely tasteless clams. Not beach worthy. Sea Pak makes better frozen grocery store fried clams. They were definitely the cheapest, purveyor, frozen fried clams available. Go for the fries, skip the fish read more

Maybe we were looking at the wrong places but we had a hard time finding boardwalk style food, so this place was perfect. I got the crab cake which came with fries and coleslaw. Coleslaw was good, honestly you can't go wrong, and fries were crispy and generously portioned. I like how you have to add your own salt, and they had old bay and other seasonings as well. Crab cake was good, a bit too salty to fully enjoy. Decent meat ratio and size. Expensive but thats normal for the beach... Solid place to grab a bite and enjoy. read more

I had a good experience at DB fries, the food was good, the fries were yummy, we got our food quick + it was pretty affordable! Me and my friends went to DB fries around 4pm on a Tuesday. There was no wait and our food came out pretty quickly. We had previously went around 8:30 pm and they were out of everything... make sure you go early! I got the crab cake sandwich and it was pretty delicious! It came with lettuce and tartar sauce. I'd happily get this again. Every year I come to the beach I get the seafood sampler here. It comes with fries, cod, crab cake, two shrimp, two scallops, two oysters, and clam strips. There were four different sauces and coleslaw also included. I feel like I got a smaller portion of fries this year since all the sauces were under the fries but everything still tasted great. The line is a bit long sometimes but it is worth it. It is $42 but it can feed 1-2 people and it comes with a lot of seafood. read more

When you're at the Bethany Boardwalk, you might skip DB Fries as "just another" beach fry place, but you'll be missing out of you do. This place has a wide variety of seafood, much more than fries. We got the mahi mahi tacos and they were awesome. Soft, flaky fish with fresh crispy shredded cabbage and a spicy sauce on a warm tortilla. Three tacos, full belly. I waited in line for a bit to get lobster roll. They said they couldn't do a hot lobster roll but the cold was still great. Tons of juicy sweet lobster meat on a buttery roll. It was pretty delicious over all. I know the place is famous for the fries but honestly I think Thrasher fries are way better. Overall a good quick lunch at the beach :) I would def. Deliciousness - 5/5 Happiness - 4/5 I only got the fries there, although they have a lot of sandwich/fish options if you like fried fish. The fries are great. They are thick and starchy, which is my preference. They are cooked crispy and have a good vinegar aftertaste. Boardwalk restaurant with boardwalk restaurant fare. Walk up window for you to take your order to enjoy outside or take home. I had the fried clam basket. DH had the oyster po' boy. Each came with home made hand cut fries. Both were pretty good. But from reading all the comments, maybe I should have gotten a lobster roll. read more

Highly disappointed. The food is so expensive for the quality that you get. We ordered the fish and chips, shrimp poboy w/ fries, the crabs cakes + shrimp + fries; which was well over $50. The fries were soggy and had no salt (which I guess they keep that way to let people add vinegar or whatever else). The crab cakes were full of fillers and the shrimp that came with it had this weird flavor to it (which were also not deveined, but not that big of a deal). The coleslaw was meh. The shrimp poboy was probably the best out of the 3. The shrimp tasted better. Customer service was decent, but I wouldn't come here again. read more

So it was our first time at Bethany beach. We made just an hour before the storm really start. We spent sometime at beach and it's time to grab something to eat. We walked around and couldnot fine something - with COVID, not really a lot of choices...until we see the DB at the corner spot. First, it looks like a French fries joint but when I started checking out their menu, I found the platters and A lot more choices than just fries . I tried the scallops platter and love it so much that my husband went back to check for other dishes. He ordered the oyster and he likes as well. It will be our go to place for our next visit! Customer Service let's just say it's two young boys. Two sets of people ordered after me and BOTH got their fried food before me. This is why their customer service was less than par. You really can't go wrong with an order of Lobster Roll w/fries on the side! The chunks of lobster was pretty legit and the buttered roll was a good combination with the lobster. It is a little pricey for a small to decent sized lobster roll ($19), but it's not like you're going to eat it super often! I recommend this spot if you're in the area. It's also conveniently located next to the beach too! read more

Really good fries! I like them with cajun seasoning. Also had some steamed shrimp-a little overcooked, but very fresh and tasted pretty good. My husband got the coconut shrimp-he said they were really good but also a tad overcooked. I give them 5 stars for their fries but 3 stars for their shrimp, so 4 stars overall seems adequate :) will definitely give them another try when we are in Bethany Beach again! You'd never expect it but DB somehow has the best fried oysters in the Bethany/Rehoboth area. They're fresh, juicy and perfectly fried. Toss them in a roll packed with tartar sauce and lettuce and you've got one heck of a po'boy. The fries are a plus too. The lobster roll is apparently one of the best sellers but the meat isn't totally fresh (it comes pre-picked) and the lobster is somewhat shredded instead of chunked. It's still good but I'd stick with the oysters. read more

I visited DB Fries last year. It had crunchy, salty, & vinegary fries. 10/10. However, when I came back, there were undercooked & way too soggy fries- not the crispy & crunchy fries I was expecting! What was more frustrating was that there were 5 guys working there & didn't give a care if the quality was mediocre. Please please care about the quality of the fries. It shouldn't take that much to make sure the fries are cooked. read more

This place is exactly what you want for a beach-side establishment. The food is good, and the prices are fair unlike those of some of their neighbors on the boardwalk. We came here twice in one day to get food to bring back to the beach. We got to try their fried clam strips, fries, and crab cake sandwich and really enjoyed all three. The fries were yummy, the clam strips were fried to crispy perfection, and the crab cake was fresh and had generous amounts of crab. What more can you ask for? DB also has a sit-down restaurant a little bit farther down the road. It has similar offerings to DB Fries and would be perfect if you're looking for a casual sit-down place to enjoy a meal. read more

As a Boardwalk restaurant I expected DB Fries to be just average, but I was wrong. I ordered the lobster roll with fries and the whole meal was excellent. The fries were hot, hand cut, fresh, and crispy. They had great flavor and were just great all-around fries. In comparison, the lobster roll was great as well. The lobster was fresh, tender, and seasoned to perfection. The roll was flavorful, but the bottom was a little soggy. The meal came to $19 which is a bit high, but they gave plenty of fries and it was worth the price. In conclusion, DB Fries is a great place to grab some fries or get a whole meal. read more

We caught some live music while I enjoyed a $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan before settling the bar tab. Once dinner service opened at 4:15 PM, we were seated inside at table 45 to escape a breezy outdoor deck. It turned out to be the debut day for their new menu. I ordered another $16 Maker's Mark Manhattan and the $36 seafood stew--a rich combination of fish, clams, shrimp, fennel, pepper, onion, Spanish chorizo, and tomato seafood broth accompanied by grilled bread. It was a generous portion, so I brought the remaining stew home to enjoy later that evening. To conclude the meal, I tried the Lucky 7 porter from Evolution Craft Brewing Company ($7), which featured dark dried fruit and sweet toffee tones balanced by notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Our server, Brendan V., did an excellent job caring for us and demonstrated great knowledge of the new menu, even while managing a large outdoor table with five children. Our total bill for that evening came to $114, excluding gratuity. We returned on Memorial Day for a second dinner, this time in a group of five that included family and a friend visiting from Scottsdale, AZ. Since the outdoor fire tables were completely full, we secured a table on the left side of the restaurant. I began with a spicy mango margarita for $14, which featured tequila, mango, lime, agave, jalapeno, and a tajin rim, and opted for the $36 seafood stew once again. Unfortunately, the cocktails were inconsistent this time; I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan up, but it tasted like watered-down bourbon. He came by the table perhaps six times from 5:22-6:45. *There seems to be a lot of summer hires here--folks that want to hang out at the beach, but need to work to pay the rent. The training has be to incredibly minimal. I would guess no family meal, no 5-minute daily wine pairing rundown...basically no front of the house training. When the customer has to stack dirty plates and get a busboy's attention to grab them TWICE...not good, especially for the prices at Off the Hook. The food was quite hit or miss. The good: the crab bisque was excellent...really amazing! The scallop appetizer was also delicious with a base of grits and bacon underneath. However... The bad: we wanted to share the scallop appetizer and asked Cody how many scallops came with that. He said "three". The app was delivered with TWO scallops (Yes...TWO scallops for $19). They were not huge scallops...so 16/20 count. Wholesale, $18 a pound, less than a dollar each. To charge $19 for an appetizer with TWO scallops? Wow! The dish cost perhaps $3.25. A bottle of wine that retails for $15 is $30 in a restaurant. I get it, but marking up TWO scallops with some grits to $19 is insane. I asked the manager about the missing scallop. He advised that the entree came with three scallops--the app two. The entree was $39!! $39 for three scallops! If these were U/8 or U/15 scallops, I maybe could see it, but two 16/20 scallops for $19 and three for $39 is nuts. The pappardelle (appetizer portion) was completely flavorless. It was not cooked with any salt and pepper. It tasted like buttered noodles you find on a kid's menu. Adding salt and pepper (at the table) did little to fix it. My wife's pappardelle entree was equally bland. She tried mine; I tried hers. She looked right at me and said "There is no seasoning on this!". My thought exactly. My FiL had the salmon. He reported that it was tasty. While it was cooked well, $35 for an approximately 5 oz portion is again nuts. As a local, I really wanted to enjoy this meal. It was an anniversary dinner for my in-laws. $260 for four people with bad service and hit-or-miss food and the portions described is not good. I'm not a tourist. Lastly, I cannot forget to mention the FLIES. This is an INSIDE, white tablecloth dining establishment with $30-40 entrees, NOT a beachfront bar. 3-4 houseflies, accompanied by a gnat, joined us for dinner. Crazy. Bethany Beach, Delaware has limited options for dining and cars lined up 100 deep on the main road into town. This can be the only explanation for Off the Hook being so busy, so often. Tourists from NYC and Philadelphia don't bat an eye at paying $39 for three scallops. I don't know what other explanation makes sense.

My total bill was $70. I redeemed my $25 Toast birthday credit to my bill so my net cost was reduced from $70 down to $45. I also applied my balance to my gift card from November 2024, excluding gratuity. I returned here again around 4 PM with my friend for happy hour on lobster Tuesday. I enjoyed my two rum and cokes for $5 each. I also enjoyed my two Big Oyster Midnight Kraken draft stout beers in a snifter also for $5 each. I also enjoyed my lobster tail jambalaya for $22, which I was able to finish this time, since the quantity was decreased due to inflation. My total bill was $41.50 excluding gratuity, which again I used my gift card. We agreed we will continue to return here for happy hour.
