Checked out DC slices at recent community event. They have a variety of of slices that include cheese, veggie, pepperoni, meat lovers as well a buffalo chicken. They do offer whole pie options. If you want more than pizza they have a few sides and a dessert option. The pizza was crispy and the cheese to sauce ratio was good. I would check them out if they were in the area again. read more

Absolutely awful. Not just the pizza but the customer service too. It started out when I ordered two slices on Saturday at 7:52pm. The guy at the window (pathetically this was the owner, Eric) started rushing me to put an order by saying that there was only one minute left to place an order. Very rude. I was told the wait would be 10 minutes. After A HALF HOUR I went to the window to ask how long and the guy snapped at my telling me to sit tight and it'll be ready when it's ready. 55 MINUTES LATER, it finally came out. The pizza was disgusting. My hotel was only two blocks away and when I got home, I found the pizza was soggy and cold. I feel that we were cheated and lied to as the pizza tasted like it was made long ago or it was sitting there for a quite a while. Why did I have to wait so long? I didn't sleep a wink--was up all night. Won't go into details but the pizza tasted better coming up than it did going down. Eventually had to go to urgent care and turns out I had food poisoning. Who know's what was in it, but a $300 medical bill later and losing about 10 pounds, it doesn't matter. I was in DC on a business trip and had to miss all my meetings that get due to this horrendous experience. I contacted the owner Eric to discuss at the very least getting a refund. A great food truck option if pizza is what you are craving. With all of the meat toppings it may have been a little greasy . . . . but hey, sometimes that's part of what you're craving. Just be sure to get a cold Coke to wash it down. And the day I went the were handing out free salads with your order but I'm not sure if this was a normal thing or just happening that day. I came here on a weekday around 8PM. I ordered one Buffalo chicken slice with some Ranch drizzle on top. The slice costed me $5, and you can get two slices for $9. For this price, I at least expected a high quality pizza or a bigger portion. Although the pizza was still tasty, the crust wasn't for me. It was NY style which I like, but I think they overheated mine too long. The bottom of the pizza was slightly "cardboardy" due to its hardness and the bread tasted kinda stale. It probably wasn't that great of a slice since it was pretty late in the day and not freshly made. The buffalo chicken flavor itself did have a kick of spice to it. The line is the only reason I'm not granting DC Slices 5 stars. If you don't get out there early, there's a good chance you'll wait in line for a solid 1/2 hour. I enjoy the pizza - fresh ingredients, always hot and well-made. I usually go for just basic cheese with fresh mozzarella, but have also gotten the sausage and onion before, and my co-worker told me just this past week they had BBQ chicken. So, lots of varieties of pizza and they change it up. Slices are BIG, too. I usually can't finish the second one. They listen to their customers too - one time, one of my co-workers told them that they'd have another customer for their sausage, onion, and green pepper pizza if they eliminated the green pepper (me - I hate green peppers!) and they actually did it a few weeks back. As promised, I ordered that one! Prices aren't bad at all - $4 per slice puts my lunch at $8 typically and that's less than most other food trucks (then again...it IS pizza, which is cheap to make). The food truck was parked in front of our apartment so why not !!! Ordered a whole pie half cheese and half veggies with a side of garlic parmesan tater tots with siracha sauce. Amazing service pizza was thin and crispy and made within 8 mins on the dot it was blazing fast. Quality of the pizza was great. Only thing and its because I was anticipating something else. Asked for fresh jalepenos and was told they had them so added it to our pizza but it was pickled. Not the end of the world but had my mind set on that. Good pizza baked fresh in the truck (they say their high speed oven can cook a pizza in about 5 mins). They usually have 4 or 5 different pizzas available (sausage & onion, cheese, bbq chicken, veggie, pepperoni last time I was here). They also have a tater tots in different flavors, worth a try for sure. Slices are a little expensive at $4 each but it's good pizza and not too greasy. I met these guys at Laurel Live concert in Geauga county Ohio. They drove in from DC to bake some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. These guys are the real deal who are passionate about food and sharing it. The pizza is awesome superb this crust, great sauce and lots of cheese and pepperoni. The highlight of my trip to DC is knowing I can get my DC Slices fix! I'm from Chicago, and I know my pizza. There is just something about DC Slices that make it taste soo great! My favorite is the pepperoni and veggy pizza. The slice is large and filled with toppings. The service is good, and the food comes out fast and hot. Updating to knock it down a star. I'm not sure who is in charge of the DCSlices twitter, but it's clearly not someone who has any connection to the truck. The tweet was blasted "come to 20th and L for hot slices and tasty tots" so I decided to give this place a second go to ensure my review was accurate. I go back and the frier is broken. I tweet to @DCSlices "i got there and they said the frier was broken! sad no tots" to which they message me back "they say a lot of things!" What the heck does that mean? That the people on the truck were just lazy and lied to me to avoid making them? Or did your twitter get hacked? The plus side, I did get to try the Hawaiian and it was pretty dang amazing. The minus side, I couldn't leave well enough alone and went back the following week. I ordered the Hawaiian and Pepperoni again, and got two of the worst slices ever. They had been sitting under some good truck version of a heat lamp for what tasted like 20 minutes. I ate half of each and threw away the rest. And that's my last trip to DC Slices. Moral of the story: 1) Don't follow them on twitter, because whoever runs it is locked in a basement somewhere removed from society. 2) If you're like me and hate when places offer a "combo" that doesn't have a price discount, avoid making eye contact with the menu here. Pizza slice: $4. Can of soda: $1. COMBO SLICE AND SODA: $5. That's not a combo, that's doing math for me and I hate you. 3) If you're going to get pizza, ask for whatever came out of the oven last (or better yet, offer to wait if something is in the oven). Because it gets exponentially worse with each second under whatever faux heat lamp they use. 4) Also it's strange that this is a truck where everything is premade and sitting in a warming oven, yet it's HANDS DOWN the SLOWEST truck I have ever been to. Literally all they need to do is take pizza out, box it, take my money, and done. If you get tater tots they make you stand aside and wait anyway, so that doesn't impact the line time. This is a truck that clearly slows down service to get the line going to attract more customers. In the heat of DC summers, that's unacceptable. read more

My vote of 3-star "A-OK" has absolutely NOTHING to do with the pizza slices that are dished up. On occasion the DC Slices truck comes to Metro Sq. and I can actually trek the 3 blocks to visit them. The slices are really pretty awful. The crust is meh, the sauce and toppings are actually pretty tasty, but the cheese has been cooked / heated within an inch of its life and resembles more of a "cheese tarp" over the slice. When you consider that in order to get to the DC Slices truck I have to walk past Pizza Pino that serves up GREAT fresh slices from its oven, there's little to make me want to come here for a slice of pie. So why return at all you might ask? To get an exceedingly tasty meatball sub and an order of tater tots. Oh I could wax ever so poetic about the meatball sub. Soft chewy bun stuffed with 4 big juicy meatballs coated with tangy marinara sauce. All blanketed by just the right amount of melted mozzarella cheese so you get some in every bite. An excellent sub for just $6. The tots are fried to perfection and worth the wait to get them. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Major Nom Nom Nom. I don't recommend getting the Pizza tots however as the marinara just makes the tots sort of soggy. read more

Fridays for me pretty much always mean food trucks, since I moved offices and am now over by the White House, with its surrounding parks at Lafayette, Franklin, and Farragut, perfect for mobile food stations to set up shop and feed the masses who shun corporate saturation. I had heard less than rave reviews about DC Slices so far, but I'm never one to judge without first trying, so I found out where they would be this past Friday and decided to make it a priority to pay them a visit. I'm not sure if they've been reading up on their reviews here or not to improve their product based on people's feedback, but my experience was definitely better than some of those before me. They offer a lunch "combo" which is essentially a slice of pie and any drink for $5, but since I already had my water bottle with me I opted for 2 pieces, which are $4 a slice. The guy in the truck started out apologizing for the buffalo chicken pizza by saying there was too much sauce, and so the crust wouldn't be as crisp as they normally go for, but I found the amount to be just right, and the flavor of the buffalo sauce spot on. The blue cheese drizzled across the top really made it have an authentic wing taste, and he sprinkled fresh chopped basil all over as well which really came out nicely. Personally I think the crust came out just right. I don't expect it to be too crunchy with a "New York style" large pizza slice; it makes it too difficult to fold. The sausage and onion was obviously less revolutionary, and definitely fit the stereotypical NYC pizza slice mold. The flavors of the sausage were milder than I expected, and this piece was a bit underwhelming. The one thing that really did impress me though is how little grease there was on either of the pizzas, especially this one, considering the toppings. Sausage pizza is typically dripping with grease, but this one was quite mellow and refreshing, and reminded me in a way of how California style pizzas maintain the essence of pizza in design but somehow feel a bit healthier (but by no means healthy in actuality). I may be being a bit generous with my rating, given that my biggest complaint here has to do with the pricing structure, but when compared with some other food trucks it's still not too far off base. I think at $4 a slice this is just slightly outside of the value range of the quality, especially when compared with other options available in the city. At $3 a slice I think they would have lines down the block, and I know I would be a much more regular patron. However, when I think about what's available from their competition, usually around $7 depending on which truck you go to, it's not too far off base to come away really full for $8, which is why I'm relaxing a bit. read more

I've tried this truck twice and it's definitely an A-OK in my book! In addition to huge slices of traditional styles of pizza, they also sell tater tots and cheese sticks. Pizza is $4, tots and cheese sticks are $4 (sweet potato tots are $5). It's quick (the most I've ever waited was 5 minutes), easy, and the service has always been friendly. I've seen this food truck around for a long time but finally tried it by ordering a whole 18" pizza, half meat lovers and half veggie. The crust was a little thin for my taste (and not crispy, just...flat) but I appreciated that there were a TON of toppings on both sides. I had the veggie pizza for lunch. I didn't get the meal (which is a slice + a drink for $5). So the slice by itself is $4. I thought it was quite steep considering the size of the pizza (not that big). That means the can of soda is $1 (if you get the meal), which I thought was quite steep for a soda can. The pizza didn't look that appetizing. It had green bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions I think. The guy also added fresh basil to my slice. I thought the pizza was pretty tasteless. The crust wasn't anything special. I'm a pizza fan, but I've had better frozen pizza. Guys behind me were raving about the bbq chicken pizza. Unfortunately they weren't serving it that day. All they had was cheese, pepperoni, veggie, and sausage/onion. I wish they had something a little more exciting on the menu to try. Two and a half stars. Averse to polishing off an entire 18" pie, I opted for just a single serving of their buffalo chicken for $4. My sixth was handed to me with the friendliest smile I've seen in the local food trucks. Thankfully they had plenty of sliced basil, since without it I think I would have had to round down. I declined blue cheese dressing in favor of ranch for lunch, which was drizzled evenly across it in an artful grid. Jalapeno rounds dotted the surface of the pizza, in almost even portions with the sliced chicken. I can't argue with the @dcslices cheese-to-crust ratio, and the pizza had been cooked for just the right amount of time. It wasn't amazing but it hit the spot like it needed to. The pizza was okay--pretty basic and the old bay tots were nothing to write home about, however their Parmesan tots stole the show for me. I like that this food truck accepts credit card. I also like this food truck includes parmesan cheese, garlic, and red chili peppers shakers on the counter. I like that the pizzas come in boxes. For faster service, you can ask for the cheese or pepperoni slice. However, if asking for the spicy chicken pizza, be prepared to wait longer. I was told it was going to take four minutes, it felt three times the wait. Consistent with some of the other reviews, I thought that pizza cost three times as much as a slice at Costco and twice as much as at Whole Foods but is not three or twice as good. Therefore, I think an opportunity for this business to enhance the value proposition is to use thinner slice boxes like Whole Foods. I like food carts in principle, but this is one of the first food carts I've found in DC that is pretty worthy in execution. They serve pizza, which they bake fresh in the van. The slices are big (think "NYC style," not "Jumbo Slice"), designed to be creased in half and eaten. There are three topping choices-- cheese, pepperoni, and veggie. Each is $4 (or a six-slice pie for $20), and comes with a sprinkling of fresh basil. The results are pretty tasty. The crust wasn't quite blackened or crispy enough for my own tastes, but then you wouldn't be able to fold it, and I gather that people think it is important to fold their slices. (I don't know why.) Tomato sauce is on the sour side, and cheese is on the light side, which suits me fine. I went on the first day, and they hit a big backup during the lunch rush, since they hadn't planned on being as popular as they were. I expect that within a week or two, they'll have that down. You can't beat the convenience of truck food--and when it's paired with great taste and friendly service, you'll be hard-pressed to find better value. DC Slices represents the perfect storm of these qualities: a roving truck that churns out some killer slices at great deals. Follow @DCSlices on Twitter and Facebook to find out where they're selling and when, learn about their latest inspired pies (this week it was chicken pesto; last week it was crab--which I missed because they sold out; the week before that it was buffalo chicken), and the two guys in the truck are super friendly...don't be surprised if you hear them ask "would you like fresh basil with your slice?" or "would you prefer drizzled bleu cheese or ranch?" It's awesome. About as close to tabletop customer service as you can get from a food truck. There's complimentary shakers of red pepper spice, parmesan cheese and oregano (I think) by the window. And to top it off, the van pipes music through exterior speakers, along with free WiFi. How cool is that?! Oh yeah, and there's a recycling can attached to the outside too. I usually go on "Farragut Fridays", and they often have a sizable line going by noontime (20 deep or so), but it moves quickly enough. $5 gets you a fairly large slice and a canned drink (recommend throwing an extra buck in the tip jar too!). I can't remember the last time I got lunch that cheap; it's a great deal. It's true that they're not 'Jumbo Slice' size, but crucially--they're not 'Jumbo Slice' taste (ie. you don't need to be wasted to enjoy it). It's gourmet pizza. If you really want to fill up you can get two slices but I find one is perfect. Also, the Sweet Bites cupcake truck is usually parked nearby, and makes a nice dessert if you've got a nagging sweet tooth. Plus, as of today I learned that DC Slices serves Advocacy too! Apparently the city is getting pressure from the brick-and-mortar food establishments to squash the food trucks, so today they asked everyone in line to check out www.yesontitle24.com and to voice support for the food trucks to DC City Council. Please do! The food trucks bring some nice choices and variety and it would be a real shame to lose that. Definitely my favorite food truck out there right now. Highly recommended to check it out. This truck is a regular staple near my work. I don't often opt for pizza at lunch, but these guys are pretty good. The flavor of the pizza is good but I really wish the crust was more substantial. I often end up having the toppings separate themselves from the base, so have extra napkins handy. I will say that the tater tots and funnel cake fries are outstanding! I typically don't like foldable, NY-style pizza. But this pizza is actually not very greasy, and the crust holds up great without getting soggy and losing all your toppings. The pepperoni and sausage was amazing with big chunks of shaved sausage. The veggie pizza left a lot to be desired. It was really skimpy on the veg... a day later and I couldn't even tell you what was on it besides mushrooms. It was that unremarkable. For pizza from a truck, this is 4-star pizza. It's no Vocelli's and I think I'd still prefer Papa John's over it (especially for $4 a slice), but the slices are decently big and I had no real complaints about this pizza. It was delicious. I also liked how there wasn't too much sauce, and it wasn't an overpowering sauce... just the right amount of flavor and spice to it without it being overly tomatoey. They also sell tots of many different kinds: cheesy, cajun, etc. The staff is uber friendly as well.
