DC Slices is def 1 of the better food truck out there in DC. For $4, you get a slice of pizza. I recommend getting their Buffalo Chicken & Vegetarian (Onion, Green Pepper, Mushroom, Black Olive). The crust's pretty good; They're pretty crispy and not too thick but not too thin either. The basil is complimentary, you must get it - it makes the pizza better! The pizza's usually fresh since they make them fresh on the truck. The portion's reasonable for $4 a slice. The only thing I can't stand about it is the line (it's so freaking long during lunch time) + the wait time for your pizza to cook. read more

But unfortunately, it wasn't the best deal for our money. They offered a deal that gave you a pizza for the flat rate of $9 with any toppings you chose. I got the Sausage, Onion, and Pepperoni and it looked like they gave it all their love! On the other hand, my friend ordered a pepperoni and jalapeño and found it lack luster. Another friend ordered some Tater Tots with pepperoni and cheese, though wished it had more cheese and pepperoni. Friendly service and fast! Saw this truck at Drink they District this past weekend and the slices looked really good so I had to stop by. I figured I should just get a cheese or pepperoni slice keep it simple but....the girl in the truck said I should try the buffalo chicken so hey if someone says it's good I'm totally down. So I ordered a slice she offered me the bleu cheese drizzle but I decided try in it's natural state. With so many great reviews for this place, I'm willing to chalk up my subpar experience as a fluke but I was really underwhelmed by my experience here. It's also possible that DC people don't really know what great pizza is so the pizza reviews are overhyped. *shrug When I went to this truck, there was no one on line (although usually I do see a fair number of people lined up on most days) so I didn't have the advantage of getting a "fresh" pizza since I'm assuming they usually have slices ready to go since the turnover is quick. But I got my pizza a second after ordering and I was sad to see that the slice I got was a lot smaller than what I saw in pictures and what I saw others get after me. I'm betting that I got the last slice of a pie that had been sitting out for a bit cause the slice I got was lukewarm and the crust was flimsy and not crispy at all. The taste of the pizza was average. I thought the sauce was a bit sweet and it could have used a little bit more cheese. For $4 a slice, I would expect more. I would honestly compare this slice to a hybrid between papa johns and dominos (which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I can enjoy either of those at the right time). I do like that they have a nice variety of condiments available for use in front of the truck. Additionally, the person working here was extremely friendly so that definitely counts for something. Two guys, one customer. And, much like the cup in the infamous video, I feel sh*t on by these guys. I waited, and waited, and waited for someone to acknowledge me so I could order. Two guys working in the back, nobody up front and only one other patron who was waiting endlessly for his pizza (I was there for at least 10 minutes - he had previously ordered and was waiting the whole time). They looked busy, so I thought I'd be patient. However, after both looked at me, made eye contact and turned back around without a word and about 5 more minutes elapsed, I left. I finally got to try DC Slices. Everytime I try to go on U Street, they have left by the time I stumble out of the bar. They were only doing whole pies, which was fine with me. I went for the veggie option, sans mushrooms and onions. Yay for a custom option. It's about an 8 minute wait for a pie. I loved the pizza. The cheese to sauce to topping ratio was good and crust was crisp. Loved the fresh basil addition, too. I'll be on the look out for DC Slices. read more

3.5 stars. Story time: Met some friends for happy hour on U Street. Happy "hour" became 11 pm. Stumbled out onto the sidewalk and pretty much directly into the waiting, open window of DC Slices. Had a lovely exchange with the gents behind the counter about the pace of business. Ordered a slice of cheese with fresh basil, doused the thing with plenty of red pepper flake. I really like these food trucks. They make me feel like the popular girl in school. The one whose mom always gave her lunchables instead of a lame turkey sandwich. One mom even used to surprise her daughter with KFC. LUCKY! Im still not popular, but when I do bring any food from these trucks in to the cafeteria, heads turn. When people ask me where my lunch is from, I slyly reply, oh wouldn't you want to know. Actually I don't do that. I tell them "There is a food cart outside you fool!" I tried a slice of veggie with a hit of the fresh basil. It wasn't amazing but it was a decent sized slice and loaded with cheese, peppers and mushrooms. I liked that the sauce wasn't too sweet but I wish it had more flavor too it. Adding red pepper flakes and parm helped. I liked the thickness of the crust but it also didnt have the crunch or saltiness to it that I like. Most guys in line ordered two slices, but one is enough if you aren't starving. I get it...food trucks are all the rage, especially the cup cake ones. Imagine if the famed Georgetown Cupcakes had a truck? The madness, the gridlock...it would turn this hipster city of raging lunatics into red velvet pirates and chocolate ganache zombies. DC Pizza, however, will never have that problem. I think the shiny new toy syndrome has worn off or maybe it was the pizza sauce or cheese that evaporates after tanning under the heat lamps for way too long. If it's late in the day, you're still open & trying to unload those last few slice is it really worth your business to pawn off sub-standard food to the unwitting, yet hungry customer who will probably write a seething review on a message board intended for food hacks like me? My friends and I were walking from Town in U st last night. We were starving and saw this food truck and got ready excited. We ordered each pepperoni pizza. The pizza was small and cold. For $4 we felt cheated but waiting to see how it tasted before verbally stating it among each other. Also, really really bad customer service. The girl seemed like she did not wanted to be there anymore. We were asking her for some parmesan cheese because the one that was outside the truck was literally stucked to the bottom and was not coming out by shaking it. We probably asked her like 4 times when we were right in front of her. She completely ignored us. We found a way to get the parmesan cheese out. It came out in chunks and balls and it smelled bad. Like I said we were starving so we eat our overpriced cold pepperoni slices with the smelly chuncky parmesan and now we are peeing through the wrong whole. To think we were all proud we were escaping a bad morning by not drinking... I'm a huge fan of buffalo chicken slices, so naturally I ordered one when I stopped here for lunch. It wasn't awful, but it was extremely disappointing. I actually forgot it was a buffalo chicken slice while eating it because there was so little chicken on it and not a single hint of buffalo sauce. Literally, not a single bite It probably could have passed as just a plain slice that accidentally had a few jalapenos and small pieces of chicken fall on it. DC Slices happened to be in my neighborhood, so I ordered a slice to see how they were. L'Enfant Plaza is the culinary black hole of DC and I fully support the food trucks that stop by 7th and Maryland whenever the line doesn't look too crazy. Unfortunately, DC Slices didn't offer me anything in terms of taste or value to keep me from going to the mediocre pizza chain across the street. I'm a big fan of anything buffalo chicken, so I tried the buffalo chicken slice. They advertise $5 for a slice and soda, but I wasn't thirsty so I asked how much for just a slice and it was $4. A little steep, but I wanted to try it so I went for it. The chicken was covered in an orange buffalo looking sauce, but that's about it...on a scale of 1 to 10 on buffalo sauce flavor, this was like a 2 or 3. There was also no blue cheese to further go along with the buffalo chicken wing theme like some places will put blue cheese dressing under the cheese, crumbled blue cheese on the pizza, or drizzle dressing on top. None of that, just diced chicken in an extremely tame, mild, barely noticeable sauce on what otherwise would be a cheese slice. The crust wasn't all that great, very thin and flimsy with wire marks on the bottom, the sign of a conveyer belt or rack rather than a pizza oven. Given that for $2.75 I can get a cheese slice that came out of an oven across the street, I doubt I'll be back to DC Slices the next time it rolls around. For $4 I'd expect better crust and more favorable toppings to make it worth it. read more

67 degrees, Friday lunchhour, Farragut Square food truck cluster....= recipe for disaster that I blame myself for stepping into DC Slices seemed the best bet because the line wasnt going into the grass area in the park. Looks are decieving. Waited about 40 minutes for a slice of cheese and cajun tots. Cheese Slice= nothing memorable. i like my pizza slightly charred and the crust was non-greasy and thin, so those are pluses. but the sauce was barely non existant and salty. since the wait was so long, it was also cold! Cajun Tots: waited an extra 15 minutes for these, but they were the best part of my lunch. they went easy on the seasoning, and the tots were cooked perfectly and made me miss my 8 year old self. I moved down here a few years ago from New Jersey and to say I have missed the pizza from there is an understatement. That was until the other night when I saw your truck near Dupont Circle in DC. I think the joy I get from food trucks is probably a little ridiculous, but I grew up in a town of 5,000 people where it snowed from October to June, and I never got to experience the excitement of an ice cream truck. So now, I am enjoying, with DC food trucks, what other people might have gotten out of their systems' when they were little. At least, that's how I explain my increased heart rate when I see food trucks and my desire to run up to every purveyor I see. Plus, I love to eat. With that introduction, DC Slices did not blow my socks off. It was pretty good and much more exciting than the Subway sandwich I might otherwise have had for lunch. Call me cheap, but I think $5 for a fairly standard sized slice of pizza and a can of Hawaiian Punch (I'm living the childhood I should have had) is a bit steep. I liked the fresh basil on the pizza, but that really didn't make up for the otherwise bland sauce. I was overall very happy with my first experience at DC Slices. They parked at the Navy Yard near my work and put up a sign that said "The party starts at 11:30". I rolled up right at 11:30, and there were 5 people in line already, so I got in line as well. We waited another 5-10 minutes before they started taking orders, but once they did, the line moved pretty fast. Since I don't eat meat, I ordered one slice of cheese and one veggie. They even have fresh basil they will top your pizza with if you want! The slices were pretty good size (no Adam's Morgan jumbo slices, but still pretty substantial!). It was a filling lunch for $8. Not too shabby. And the pizza was great! Not soggy or greasy. The dough was just right, combined with the perfect amount of cheese. I would have preferred more sauce, but both pieces were very tasty regardless. Hope they return to the Navy Yard soon! read more

I never get to fully enjoy the DC food truck scene unless I'm at an event that happens to have one. Luckily at Drink The District there sat the wonderful DC Slices truck. They had a very amazing special of 2 slices for $6 + free hugs that I couldn't resist. Overall, this place is very "meh". Had the pepperoni and the buffalo chicken. The "meh"ness of the pepperoni was that it tasted like microwave pizza, but with less freshness. I seriously remember eating better pizza in my high school cafeteria. I'd eat Costco pizza any day. Don't get me wrong, I love microwave pizza, especially Red Baron's deep dish. The buffalo chicken made up for the disappointment. With the fresh basil, I found the buffalo chicken to be tangy, sweet, and spicy all combined and with a good amount of toppings. I was walking home, and suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see a food truck. Now it's 6pm in friendship heights, and I'm a bit confused. I think they had some sort of partnership with the amc movie theater, but i that is neither here, nor there. So rather then figure out something for dinner, I sidled up and ordered a piece of cheese. For 4 bucks, I was really disappointed. I've had considerably better, and cheaper pizza at whole foods. I took a bite out of it immediately upon walking away, since they gave it to me on a plate, in the rain, and it was barely luke warm. I went into my first DC Slices experience with high expectations and I have to say it did not live up to them. I have searching high and low for decent food options around my office in L'Enfant plaza, so when I found out there was a pizza truck that came by every Wednesday I was pumped. Unfortunately my first attempt was foiled by rain and DC slices decided to stay home. However this week they were on schedule and I got my chance to check it out. I should have known something was up when I walked up and the line was only a few people, while the line for the Fojol Bros. across the street was literally half a block long. I identified a main culprit as soon as I walked up and found out slices were $4 each! I could forgive them if the slices were large enough for one alone to be satisfying to a normal adult male, but they are not. This is not to say they are small, just typical "by the slice" pizza size. In the end my 2 slices and a can of Dr. Pepper set me back $9. For comparison I can get two slices (admittedly mediocre cheese slices) and a drink a block away at Pizza Authentica for only $6.50. Since all slices were the same price I went away from my go-to two cheese slices and went with one buffalo chicken and one Hawaiian. The buffalo chicken wasn't bad, but don't expect any real kick. They replace the pizza sauce with some sort of generic mild buffalo sauce which is tasty, but not spicy. The chicken was good, but it was sparse, luckily a drizzle of blue cheese added a bit of extra flavor. Overall a satisfying but not great slice. The Hawaiian slice had better topping coverage but was bland overall. I can't pin down the exact source of my disappointment but it's safe to say it was completely forgettable. The crust on all their slices is a bit thinner than your typical NY slice but still soft. Sauce and cheese levels are a bit on the low side. Depending on how you like your pizza this can be a good thing or a bad thing. In my case it is more of a negative. In the end the slices are a tad bit better with more interesting topping options than the local competition (which isn't saying much) but the high price means it won't make it onto my regular lunch rotation and will probably only be slotted in as a situational reliever. read more

Definite 4, maybe 4.5 stars. I like my pizza crisp (though not like a cracker), non-greasy, cheap, and piled high with toppings. DC Slices got 3 of the 4-- it really is a little overpriced for a slice of pizza. But the crust was just crunchy enough, there was a huge amount of sausage, and AMAZINGLY, virtually no grease. I don't know how you make a pizza with cheese and sausage and avoid grease overload, but they've nailed it. If slices were a little cheaper, I'd be a regular. I used to go to Pizza Autentica for my pizza cravings, but no longer. I picked up on this truck a few weeks back and haven't looked back. Now, I grant, I'm a person of habit and because of this I've stuck just to the veggie slice, but it's just so good. The green peppers and onions are actually fresh & crunchy. (Go at the right time and you can see them cutting up the veggies right before going in the oven) The veggies aren't thin and seemingly welted after cooking, or buried under tons of cheese like when I order from the big 2 chains at home either. It's thin crust, but there's just enough so you can fold it and not have to worry. For me it's the perfect combo of freshness, right balance of cheese/sauce, and taste. I end up going back for seconds most weeks. I usually go a little on the early side to beat the mad rush on K St. Even still, the longest I've had to wait was about 5 min since they were making the pie from scratch. I have wasted my lunch time on numerous occasions at the Navy base because they don't bother to update their schedule to let you know they won't be at that location. It's a chilly day and I was craving pizza. I ordered a plain slice for myself and some pizza tots to share, and was told it would be 10 minutes. Seemed like a long wait for a food truck, but sure. Over 15 minutes of standing in the cold later, our order was ready. When we got back to the office, i realized they gave me the wrong kind of pizza, which seemed like it was reheated instead of fresh. The tater tots aren't homemade or anything special - they're fried from frozen and their super chincy on the toppings - totally NOT worth $6 or the $4 for pizza. TOTALLY not worth it.
