We visited North Conway on Labor Day weekend on motorcycles. We got to dinner around 8ish and sat at a high top in the bar area. We were starving and tired after riding for 8 hours that day. It was obvious that we just missed a rush. Almost every table was still dirty, and needed to be cleaned off. We also noticed that a table of 10-12 just sat down before us. The atmosphere was pretty nice. I enjoyed the photos throughout the dining area. The bar was loud and sounded like people were having a great time. The good parts: great menu options, the food was enjoyable, and the atmosphere was friendly. The downfalls: it took an hour to receive our apps, the drinks were WAY over poured, and our waitress didn't seem to get our vibe. So with it looking as busy as it was, and the huge table just within our sight, we did not complain about the wait. The kitchen was probably taking a breath! We did however, complain about the drinks and the waitress's seemed proud and happy that the bartender over poured and gave us "good drinks". Our goal is to enjoy our beverage, not get hammered. We would of had at least one more for each person (party of four) if the first one wasn't so strong. Good for us, and good for the business. Very disappointed with the owners who don't seem to care if your satisfied or not. Called to make reservations for a large party of 7 adults and 2 kids over Memorial Day weekend and was told "not necessary because it's not busy" - it was Sunday evening - but when we arrived at 6:00 we were told by both hostess and owner that we'd have to wait 1 hour or be split up. Unfortunately this wasn't our first experience with the rude hostess so we weren't surprised but we were surprised by the owners lack of concern and he told us we could go elsewhere - which we did gladly. We have been coming here for years but they just lost our business and we will be sure to let our family and friends know the same. read more

We had a great night at Deacon St! My family and I sat at the bar, the bartender waited on us and was friendly and funny. Three of us got steaks, one got the fried chicken. My steak was the hangar (rare) with fries and a kale slaw and garlic butter. When the steak came out, I was a little confused because I wasn't expecting it to be cut into medallions. I like my steak super rare, like practically raw, and it looked like they were cooked in the bite sized pieces, not cooked then cut. I could not be more wrong! The pieces were incredibly rare, buttery soft and melted in my mouth. I was shocked at how tasty and tender every bite was. The portion size was great and the fries were also amazing- thin and dark brown and fluffy on the inside. My fiancé could not stop raving over the fried chicken. It was a bourbon battered and I could see how juicy it was. He ate every morsel! The other meals on the table, a filet and a sirloin, looked great with their sides and sauces and everyone at the table agreed we can't wait to go back on our next trip. Deacon street is a "whiskey and martini bar" so we tried some whiskey cocktails- I loved my fiancés sazerac and I had a manhattan that was yummy and well balanced. read more

I haven't eaten at Deacon Street. I never will and here's why-- On Friday 2/16, I read an ad for Deacon Street in the Conway Daily Sun. They promised 50 cent chicken wings on Sunday. I showed the ad to my wife and since we had a group getting together on Sunday, we decided we'd give Deacon Street a try. So, it's soon Sunday and our group heads over to Deacon Street for wings. However, when we arrive, the manager tells us that they don't have 50 cent wings this day because it's a holiday. I say, "I saw your ad just 2 days ago." "Yeah", she tells me. "That was a mistake." (What was a mistake? The ad? That I read it?) Also, what holiday is February 18? National Wine Day? John Travolta's birthday? When I'm looking for a restaurant, I'm not looking to be tricked, fooled, and/or cheated. I also like them to own up to their promises as well as their mistakes. Deacon Street failed. They wouldn't own up. So, now we celebrate Don't Eat at Deacon Street day every February 18th and 19th and 20th . . . read more

First meal here and I'm not sure if I want to come back. However, since it just opened less than a month ago, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The first thing I did notice when I walked in was a strong cleaner type smell. Almost like a dishwasher. Not the kind of thing I want to smell when I walk into a restaurant feeling very hungry. But alas, we were on a mission to try out this new establishment. We started with the cheese board. It was presented very nice, but our waitress did not describe the kind of cheese so we had to guess. It was very good. For our main course, my husband had grilled chicken sandwich special. Was supposed to have a horseradish based sauce, but it was basically a tarter sauce. Son had the beer battered fish and chips. Batter was very bland, as was the fish (cod?)but it was good and hot and he enjoyed it. I had the burger. Ordered it med rare. It was cooked to order but it was on the cold side. When I order a burger, I expect a nice hot juicy sandwich. This was not hot at all. All of our meals came with fries which were outstanding! Our waitress was very nice. You could tell she was new, but she did a great job. Very attentive, but not overly so. I was a bit disappointed at the size of the bar. Being advertised as a whisky and martini bar, I was expecting a larger area, but the bar is on the smaller side. I think they may have been short staffed during our visit because I saw the hostess (and I'm assuming the owner/manager) delivering meals to some of the tables. We did wait a little longer than usual for our food, but that is ok as we were in no hurry, however, I feel if I have to wait that long for my food, I want to be blown away and I wasn't. As I said, they are a new restaurant and they are probably still perfecting things. When I return to the area next year, I'll try it again. read more

This was our second time here and I absolutely fell in the with the fried chicken and brussel sprouts! There was this sweet honey drizzle on the chicken that was to die for! The waitstaff, especially our waitress, were amazing. Our waitress, Jess (I believe that was her name), was so pleasant, helpful and always had a smile. My husband and I have been to North Conway for 7 years straight now as we celebrate our anniversary. We stay next door to Deacon Street. We have been going there for 4 years from the day they opened. We went there on Friday 25 th for drinks as to begin our celebration. Had a great time and spent 88 dollars on drinks. We returned on the 26th of May for dinner. Bar area was packed and were seated in the back of the restaurant and asked once seats opened up to please seat us at the bar. Seats did open and we did tip our waitress 20 cash for her troubles. My husband had the prime rib which he said was good, I had the fried chicken which was just ok. We went back on Sunday to have our anniversary dinner and sat at the bar and were told by Sara the bartender our manager said we cannot serve you. We were dumbfounded. We have spent hundreds of dollars at this place for over 4 years and get treated like this. No explanation. We were in shock. However being in North Conway there are over 50 dinner locations you can go to. We did just that. We ended up at Abernaki Trail...good was awesome, staff was welcoming and the anniversary was saved by this place. Deacon Street shame on you. I created an account just to write this review, something I never do; however, the service warranted it. Went in to this bar while waiting for a table at a restaurant across the street. My party was myself and 2 other women in our 20's and 30's. (Age is important to clarify here, as this bartender tends to be prejudiced against younger patrons) We walked up to bar and found seats as it was not that busy. We were ignored for at least 10 min even though the bar wasn't busy. 2 bartenders and a bar back deliberately ignored even acknowledging us with a greeting or eye contact. When I finally asked for a drink menu from an older blond bartender with 70s looking hair, she asked did I want a dinner menu. When I said no she said I do not feel comfortable serving you. Now take it my party and I were not loud, rude or intoxicated in anyway. We simply were talking to one another while we waited for service at the bar. When I asked her for an explanation she completely walked away and ignored me. I have never been denied service in my entire life and this was so uncalled for and unprofessional. She was prejudice against myself and my party because we are younger women. She was rude, condescending and without reason as to why she refused to serve us. She would not even make eye contact with me and justify her reasoning. And after reading other reviews she and the other women bartenders at this place have history of refusing to serve younger patrons 40 and under, without cause. I don't know how she has a job and I will never visit this restaurant again. If you are a younger patron don't come here. They will prejudge you based on age and looks and refuse service, the other reviews I have read sound like an exact story of how I was treated. I don't know how you can be in the industry and treat customers like this. Don't waste your time or money coming to this place. Beyond rude service and for no reason! I hope management starts to read her reviews and consider finding bartenders who actually have good customer service skills regardless or your age or looks. I will never return here again and either will all of my family and friends who visit North Conway several times a year for vacations. This rude bartender just lost this restaurant a lot of good patrons in the future. Fabulous. It was 2 for Tuesday. So we dropped in at 5pm. The hostess was warm and friendly. Our server Haley was a tremendous. Both offering their favorites on the menu. We both went with the surf and turf. Grilled shrimp and a butter steak. Simply delicious. Haley brought over bread and butter. Fresh and tasty. We went with the bag of chocolate for desert. It's large and sinful. They make a chocolate mold of a brown lunch bag, and stuff with brownies, ice cream, whip cream, ans cherries. They give you a fork and spoon to deconstruct it so you can eat it. Believe me you need both. A drink and a beer and the bill was 50 dollars. A nice atmosphere, great folks, great food, and a great price. Stop in and ask for Haley, you'll won't be disappointed. read more

This will be my third time there since 2017. It's getting worse . The time I went was before Christmas on a Friday night at around 5. It took about 15 min for drinks with just a dozen people seated and having a drink in hand. We ordered our meals and when the prime rib came, it was grilled on both sides like a steak. We asked if it was off a rib roast as we didn't want a steak cut. My cut was cold. It was ordered med- rare and it was actually cold. Not like warm or getting cold but actually a refrigerated cold. I ate a little as I was starving and didn't want my wife's to get cold if she waited for me to send it back. I didn't want it cooked med. it just seems like the staff is mailing it in. There is no sense of trying . The same types of issues keep happening. I have 5 regular places I visit and I had hoped this would be one of them but they just seem to like the regulars who only drink. I miss the place it was about 6 years ago. This place has really turned itself around! I ate here shortly after they first opened and it was just awful, but they've got a newer chef now and it's now one of my favorite spots in town. In my opinion they've got the best Two for Tuesday menu of anyone in town with several great options and a great selection of sides to choose from. It's a great place to eat any night of the week though. They seem to be fairly busy most nights, but we've never had to wait for a table and service has never been slow. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in here for dinner and we were both glad we did. The whiskey menu is overwhelming but impressive nonetheless. Being a whisky fan, this was pleasantly surprising. The food was good. We started off with some nachos which were fine. I think they used a queso type of cheese instead of actual melted cheese, which was sort of disappointing, but that's my own personal preference. They tasted fine. They had a 2/$20 special going on as it was a Tuesday, so I got the grilled swordfish and my boyfriend got the prime rib. They each came with two sides as well so this was a really good deal! I enjoyed my swordfish... it was cooked nicely. My boyfriend also enjoyed his prime rib. The side of cauliflower was also delicious and highly recommended! read more

This place was right next door to where we were staying and the beers on tap and whiskey bar caught our eye! None of the main entrees caught our eye, so we tried several appetizers! I had the wings which were phenomenal! The mussels were amazing! The zucchini fried had a little too much breading for our liking. We had the Mississippi mud pie for dessert and an highly recommend it! They have a large selection of whiskies and offer all kinds of cocktails as well! We sat at the bar in the pub which was having happy hour. Sarah greeted us with a smile and filled us in on drinks & food. She was friendly, interested in us and gave us info on the area. The next night she waved us in & promptly confirmed our drinks. She was very aware of her customers & made sure we were all happy. We also met Jessica who was going to sub for Sarah while she took a 2 day vacay. We were initially bummed but Jessica was also there smiling telling stories & making sure we were happy. As they have the best steak in town, JJ had to indulge. Sarah & Jessica made sure the pub came alive. This was probably the most disappointed I've been in a while. The bartender/server decided to boast a farm to table menu which set the bar very high. Working in the food industry this statement means a lot to me and my family. We have all been in fine dining positions and some of us still are. We all decided to have a rib eye but we had a great slice of pizza earlier so weren't 16oz hungry. They have choices of rubs which the server had no idea what they were or what was in them except they "tasted good." My parents ordered their rib eye Medium with just salt and pepper, we ordered ours medium rare with cowboy rub. Both tasted like rosemary, salt and pepper but ours had a touch more rosemary. They received medium rare and we received medium, but that's not even the worst part. The so called "farm to table" beef was frozen. You know when you cut into your steak and you see that beautiful range from red to the crispy charred edge? It was gone. This steak was frozen. If I wanted a frozen steak I would have gone to Applebees down the road. To add insult to injury our two sides, corn and rice, were ice cold. When we talked to the server she brought out microwaved sides. Chef mike does not belong working at a place charging $20 a plate. We shall not be returning. And if you like food we suggest staying far from Deacon Street. read more

I usually don't write reviews for restaurants because every restaurant deserves a pass on a bad night, but after reading the poor reviews on-line (which I should have done before our party sat down) I have to agree with many of the negative comments. It was the night before Valentine's Day and a very busy night in North Conway; most good restaurants were a 1.5 - 2 hour wait. When we stopped in this restaurant to see what the wait was, there was none. That should have been the sign of what was to come. . Drinks were fine, but the appetizers were cold. The big fubar is that they did not cook 4 out of our 7 meals. The waiter provided objective evidence that he did indeed enter the meals on the computer, but the kitchen staff just did not make them. How does that happen? One meal, I can understand only a busy night, but four meals on a night when the restaurant is only 25% full??? Once the kitchen staff realized it, instead of rushing the four missing meals, they brought them out one-by-one over a 45 minute period. When they did arrive, food was C+ quality at best . Salmon not fully cooked; burger overdone and french fries cold. Much of the food was left on the plate. They did comp. all the food, which was the right thing to do, but we were entertaining friends from Mass and New Jersey, and I'm sure this will leave a poor impression of restaurant quality in the Mt Washington Valley. We left the waiter the appropriate tip on the full bill for it was not his fault. We should have waited the 2 hours for the Italian restaurant across the street for we left there hungry and disappointed. Since the Italian restaurant is always busy, I would think this restaurant would take advantage of their overflow by providing quality food and service. I won't be back. read more

Had dinner reservations tonight so we thought we would check the place out for happy hour yesterday. The bartenders, Rhonda and Stephen were fantastic. They made us comfortable and answered any question we had regarding menus or the restaurant in general. Dinner reservations were 7:30. We sat promptly and were offered drinks and menus. Service all around was very good. I have but one criticism from both visits and that is that the appetizer menu was shortened and of course, the items taken off were the items I was looking forward to. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a miserable hostess, and this happens often. When asked if we could sit in the back room, because of tv's and entertainment and we have children, we were told no immediately. I asked if there were tables available and the hostess said no. I could clearly see that there were tables available so I asked again. I was told there was a 6 top available but 6 people had to sit there. While I was waiting a woman came in behind me and asked to sit out there for a party of 5, which only 1 was here. She was told yes and seated immediately. When I asked the hostess why I was told no and the other woman was told yes, her explanation was "I got permission". I asked if we could wait and was told "no, the people that are out there are there for the night". We ended up having to sit in the other dining room. The hostess proceeded to sit at least 20 people in the back room while we were waiting for our meals. I think it's extremely poor customer service to lie to your paying customers who frequent your establishment. Needless to say I will NEVER come back! read more

Brought my family here for a birthday. Saturday of Labor Day weekend and an empty dining room. Ordered the Seiten with fries which were the high point of the plate. Two orders of the bourbon chicken served as an un separated quarter both of which were undercooked. The burger was very finely ground which I don't believe the cook could have controlled though. The salmon and wing appetizers were both good. Overall it is geared more towards a place to grab a drink and appetizers rather than a full meal. read more

My wife and I went here for dinner on a Monday this past week and we arrived about 6:30 and were seated immediately by very friendly staff. They have a large selection of whiskey and a decent wine list to choose from. We ordered the Bruschetta as our appetizer and it was outstanding. We both had the steak tips glazed in balsamic reduction which was very flavorful and tender. There were many sides to choose from and we each had different selections and no complaints. Overall the food and service was very good. The only thing I would say that the wine pour was small for the price. They happened to be out of oysters as well. read more

I'm going to preface this by saying I am a local and have worked in the service industry. I have never left a restaurant feeling pissed off--ever. Until tonight. Yes, we trickled in at several different times. Yes, we switched seats from the bar to a table (before placing any order or drinks). Yes, we grabbed an extra chair for a latecomer (restaurant was not full nor was there a wait) yes, people left at different times and yes, we asked for separate checks at the end - I get it, all of this is moderately annoying. But none of it is out of the ordinary! So when someone in our party asked for their check to be separated and the waitress snapped that she "needed to look at the bill first" - ummm ok, you have to do is be nice and ask for a few minutes more. When she sent the manager over in her stead and we very politely asked for our checks to be separated we got an extremely condescending "Of course you do" sneered at us. I'm sorry; your server appeared to be in the weeds with only 4 tables - if she had a better system of checking up on her customers/keeping track of orders none of this would have been a problem. I literally watched her drop the ball - she took an order for food at one end of the table and then didn't ask the rest of us if we were ready/would like food. So of course we ordered at different times. (The manager took it upon herself to inform us when she dropped the check that "the way we ordered at separate times made it more difficult".) ANYWAY. Drink menu is underwhelming, truffle oil fries had barely any chives and didn't taste at all like truffle, servers looked miserable--we won't be back. read more

We are visiting the area from PA and ate at Deacon Street tonight with our two kids (11 and 8) and had a terrific meal and a fun time. Both the food and service were amazing. Fish and chips were incredibly fresh, crispy and delicious. The chips/fries were drizzled with truffle oil. Yum. The Caesar salad was fresh and the house made fennel sausage pasta was very flavorful. The chef came out to thank us for coming (nice touch), and the server was terrific and very helpful with suggestions about what to see in the area tomorrow. A local favorite band/duo -- Dennis and Davey -- just started playing there recently and they were great - not overpowering or too loud but good music (from the Stones to Train) that had all of us tapping our foot and humming along. I would recommend giving Deacon Street a try!! read more

Disappointed. We arrived quite late on a quiet Saturday evening, 830pm. Seated right away and our waitress Maria greeted us warmly. That's where the good ends. We ordered apps and dinners. The drinks came. My martinis were not great, too sweet for me but not a deal breaker. Then the waitress vanished. At 10pm we were getting pretty irritated that no food had shown up yet. She then appeared to tell us that 'they were out of steak tips'! What?! We ordered 90 mins ago and we're only hearing this now. Still no sign of apps either. She admitted to forgetting to put the order in. But she also forgot to refill the waters. I actually think she forgot we were in the restaurant and I think the cook went home. Disaster. We ordered a burger instead. The apps arrived then the burger 20 mins later with all the wrong sides that had been requested. I will say the Brussels sprouts were good. The bill came, we're not ppl to complain so paid up, tipped the usual 20% and left. There was no offer of taking the late burger off the bill. Or even a free drink for the inconvenience. That may have helped get rid of the bad taste this place left in our mouths. We spend every weekend in the valley for ski season and try to visit all the restaurants. This one won't earn our repeat business. Too bad, as it has a nice atmosphere. read more

Cute restaurant and whiskey bar. We were a party of 9 and everyone loved their entrees from the 91 year old grandmother (Tuscan Haddock) to the 1.5 year old toddler (homemade mac and cheese). We happened to go on a Monday when they do 50¢ wings so we got wings, zucchini fries and bruschetta for appetizers. The cocktails were different and definitely whiskey and bourbon forward. Not a good first experience and after reading other reviews I won't even bother going back for a 2nd try. With hardly anyone in the Restaurant our food took a very long time to come out. The app which was chips and dip was great however our main meal came out cold. The only warm thing on my plate was chicken and when the server took our plates back she left the piece of chicken with me? Who does that? We aren't talking a $10 meal we are talking a $19 meal. By the time our food came back out the potatoes on my husbands plate were not all the way cooked. They offered desert on the house which my husband accepted however at that point I was tired and not interested. We ended up with free desert and my two glasses of wine were taken off. Not a good experience and I don't reccomend. They've been open long enough to work the bugs out. read more

We took our out of town guests to the Deacon St for dinner on the Saturday night before Mothers Day. The dining room was near empty surprisingly. We were seated right away at a roomy table. We did not have to wait for our orders to be taken or our beverages to arrive. We split an order of Bruschetta for our appetizer. It was served warm and tasted fresh. The balsamic vinegar drizzle really brought out the flavors. Two of the party ordered prime rib, one tried the fish and chips, another ordered the pork chop entre and I had the pecan encrusted salmon. All of the entrees were properly prepared and tasted good. The caramelized brussel sprouts and potato smashers were a high point. If there was anything to criticize it was the Cole slaw and really that was just not to the diner's taste. We were offered free desserts to the two mothers in the party. The Chocolate Bag was huge and well big enough to split. The service was very good. The waiter was attentive and happy to answer questions knowledgeably without hovering. He was happy to bring the extras we asked for like horseradish. We will definitely return. read more
