I must have a special sixth sense because I was craving fish and chips randomly and, upon searching, stumbled across Dean's only a week or so after they had opened! I had a feeling it was only a matter of time before it would blow up in popularity. I got a reservation for dinner on a Friday with my husband which I highly recommend since it was very packed (granted peak hours). The place is very small, intimate, rustic and feels warm and welcoming. The menus were handwritten which felt personalized and special. It does feel slightly too elevated and exclusive to be a pub really but I like the idea and the energy was great nonetheless. We started off with some drinks, my husband got a half pint of the Old Speckled Hen which he really liked and came very cold! I got a regular margarita which was citrusy and refreshing. We also ordered the Guinness shooters with oysters which are so aesthetic and also delicious-- somehow the flavor of the oyster is elevated when chased by the beer. For food we got: - oyster half dozen: fresh, and perfect to transition into the meal. These came with hot sauce, lemon, and a special English mignonette sauce. These were delicious and generously sized! Very tasty without being fishy. On the brinier side but they pair amazingly with the beer. - scotch eggs: my first time having these so take my comments with a grain of salt. I absolutely adored the crispy texture from the outside layer of the scotch egg! It had an audible crunch every time you'd take a bite. The sausage was also very nice and had the texture of a meatball without being crumbly and holding its shape well. It had hints of an herb which tasted like ?anise which I am not a huge fan of but good overall when balanced by the sharp, nasal-clearing spice of the mustard. The quail egg somehow had the most perfectly soft yolk (not sure how they get all the elements right so that was pretty impressive!) Very comforting and warm app. - fish and chips: the reason I came here! Truly some of the best fish and chips I've had in my life. Photos are misleading and the portion is pretty generous. The fish fillet is perfectly battered outside, and tender, flaky inside. You could tell this was very high quality fish by its freshness. The hand-cut chips were absolutely stellar-- they were medium thickness, and had the perfect bold crisp (my husband thought too crispy but if you like your fries crispy these are the best I've had in the city!) For condiments you get a wedge of lemon, tangy and creamy tartar sauce, and proper malt vinegar to cut through the fat and sweetness of the batter. I would come back exclusively for the fish and chips! This dish definitely exceeded my expectations. -brandy snaps: for dessert we got the aesthetic brandy snaps filled with either chocolate and whipped cream. The flavors of the brandy, caramel, and chocolate/ or whipped cream were perfect and satisfying without being too heavy. It's also such a perfect dessert to share! Highly recommend! Overall, I really liked Dean's! The fish and chips were amazing, the beer is cold, the service was excellent. It does feel a bit too elevated to be a true "pub" because ultimately this is another West Village restaurant that carries a certain exclusivity to it. I am not sure a average New Yorker would be able to come here every Friday night (competitive reservations, long wait times, and higher prices), and lacks the accessibility/ casualness which I interpret as the essence of the "public house". Nonetheless, it's a unique experience with a special touch that I highly recommend. I certainly will be back in the future!

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with champagne, which immediately set the tone for a special evening. Our server, Daniel, was beyond amazing. He was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making our anniversary meaningful. It never felt forced just thoughtful, polished hospitality. The team went above and beyond when we brought our wedding cake (which had been frozen for a year). Not only did they accommodate it without hesitation, they helped decorate and present it beautifully you would have thought it had been baked that same day. It was such a touching moment for us, and they handled it with care and enthusiasm. As for the food: incredible. The steak tartare was perfectly balanced and beautifully prepared. The tuna was fresh and vibrant. And the Beef Wellington... honestly one of the best I've had in New York City. Perfectly cooked, rich, elegant, and absolutely worthy of a celebration dinner. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance: romantic, warm, refined but relaxed. It felt special without being stiff. If you're looking for a place to celebrate something meaningful, this is it. We will absolutely return.

We started with the steak tartare with Melba toast and caviar. For entrees we had the creamy cavatelli with maitake and squash. We finished off with a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding served with bourbon vanilla ice cream and crunchy toffee pieces. We loved the grandeur of the space and the cozy fireplace. It makes for an ideal business dinner setting

Server was a sweetheart, really relaxed and didn't seem stressed or overworked, she was able to talk and not sprint around the restaurant. Food was delicious, didn't LOVE the broccoli-avocado appetizer, it felt bland but it was still a nice refreshing starter. Ordered the truffle gnocchi, AMAZING! So cheesy but not overwhelming. My mom ordered the beet salad. Not usually a fan of beets but I really loved the sauce (balsamic) and it was actually very good. I ordered all 3 mocktails and didn't have a complaint about any. Not overly sweet but not "dirty". Bathrooms are down a few hallways, not too hard to find tho. Overall, loved it. Definitely felt more like a bar than a restaurant.

The interior is beautiful, every corner is eye catching. They even have a screen that showcases his famous quotes. They have an extensive drink menu with themed cocktails. The Exile- This is a sweet and refreshing drink with raspberries, strawberries, vodka, and finished with greek mastiha mint. Secret Knock- This is a smoky drink with a bit of a bite. You get peach liqueur with cinnamon smoke, bitters, and yellowstone bourbon. Robbie's Reverie- This starts with violet gin, lemon, rhubarb, and tonic. Strong and citrusy. Devil's Kiss- You start with tempranillo, a little bit of strawberry apertif and orange liqueur, Finished with blackcurrant and brandy. Fruity with a kick. Great experience overall!

Always a solid choice, though it could have been a bit colder. The bartenders were very nice and attentive, and the place clearly has a strong group of regulars. There was a friendly, familiar energy in the room that made it feel welcoming right away. Once my friend arrived, I tried "The Greatest Espresso Martini" and asked to swap the vodka for bourbon. They were very accommodating, and the drink turned out delicious. Rich, smooth, and good enough that I ordered a second. Unfortunately, our server only heard that 5 of us wanted afternoon tea, and one of the tiers of food was smaller than the others. We also had to pay extra for additional tea, which we were fine with, but service was severely lacking throughout. Our server didn't check up on us, and seemed to want us to leave quickly after dropping off the check. We would have been happy to pay the $65 each for afternoon tea, but it wasn't worth it and frankly, I was agitated by the whole ordeal by the time I left. We were also disappointed by the food items (as they were lacking) and nothing about this was like other experiences we had with other afternoon teas. I can't in good faith recommend this place, nor do I see myself coming back after the atrocious service we experienced.
