This is a five star seafood market if every there was one!! I have been a customer of Schaefer's for years and don't know what I'd do without them. From the prices, to the fresh seafood, to the prepared dishes - it's all so perfect! Their shrimp are always priced very reasonably and they are always so fresh! They offer several sizes, so they have you covered whether you are frying, grilling, boiling, or using them in a dish. They also carry live and boiled crawfish and crabs. If you don't feel like doing the boiling, let them at it. They do a fantastic job! Make sure you give their prepared foods a try. I believe that their stuffed artichokes are the best in the city, and I've tried just about everyone's. They make corn and crab soup, potato salad, stuffed crabs, crawfish pies, tartar sauce, and all sorts of other really tasty New Orleans goodness. I swear, they cook like your me-maw did - if she was a fabulous cook. They also carry the necessary extras like crawfish trays, fish fry, crawfish boil, Bunny bread, cooking oil, hot sauce and the like. They have a bunch of goodies in their freezer too - check it out. Please give them a look-see the next time you are craving seafood.

Everything was wonderful and fresh. They just was putting a fresh batch when I got to the counter. No matter how busy they were today the service was amazing. The staff was friendly and good of energy. I wasn't rush. The lady who took my order really took there time with me. Everything was so DELICIOUS. Packed with tones of flavor. I'll say this is WAY better than the previous time I visited here

Weighing too much celery instead of crawfish!

I've been an on and off customer for decades buying boiled crawfish from Schaefer's, but I've decided to go elsewhere from now on. The same thing keeps happening over and over again. The crawfish are seasoned very well, although no better than several nearby competitors. I would keep coming, except that more often than not I'm buying about 10% waterlogged celery INSTEAD of crawfish. This has been going on since I can remember. They have to know what they're doing. I just bought 10 lbs. and am including a photo of the large bowl of celery that was mixed in. I paid for 10 lbs. of crawfish but got 9 lbs. I've boiled my own crawfish for decades as well, and I've done it with and without celery. You really can't tell the difference, but if they DO think there's a difference, they can simply put the entire stalk of celery in the boil and remove it afterward so that they are not weighing heavy, water-soaked celery along with crawfish. It's no different than buying shrimp and getting ice thrown in while they're on the scale. If Schaefer's stops this practice I'll be back, but NOT UNTIL THEN.

After eating a bunch of crawfish in the area, Schaefer's has been our favorite. The $30-ish dollar 10lb crawfish special with some new potatoes and some corn Is a great takeout meal. Cash is slightly cheaper than card...just FYI. The "spiceyness" wasn't over the top like some places and the crawfish were much easier to pull/eat (so probably fresh & cooked well. Been in New Orleans for a few months and got this meal the last two nights in a row. If you want to experience some area crawfish & the season is right then this is the place to get some & carry home for a win.

Biggest crawfish season in my life! Look at those claws! Paired well with Abita Strawberry of course!

Schaefer has really outdone themselves this crawfish season in New Orleans! We've had a great season for crawfish period! Probably the best I've ever eaten in my life! It's always our go to for seafood. I got the usual, 6lbs of crawfish, corn, potatoes and a whole garlic. I also asked for more celery in the scoops. The girl who helped me said to mention it when ever I come in and they scoop it out. I was lucky the new batch had just come out piping hot. It was packed and you know they're busy when you walk in and have to take a number. The crawfish were flying out in batches. I hope we continue having these wonderful crawfish for this season. Just scrumptious!

They have some of the best boiled crawfish in NOLA. Everything is seasoned well! Even the potatoes and sausage are delicious. The line can get pretty long, but it moves fast.

This experience makes me never want to go back. The Old Fashioned was Kool-Aid sweet. One sip we knew it was undrinkable. The server told us we would not get reimbursed for sending it back. One sip - their policy is no returns on beverages. We asked to have it remade and they did. Still candy sweet. And the Old Fashioned got ordered because the first drink - the blue margarita- also was bad. They charged us for both Eve though they were undrinkable. That wasn't the biggest issue though. Two of us got the Blue Crab pasta and two got the Cobb Salad - one with chicken and one with grilled shrimp. The pasta was ok - heavy sauce and hard to find the crab. The grilled shrimp was "meh." Crab claws and calamari for appetizers. Both had poor quality shredded parmasean cheese on them. Why? We picked the sautéed crab claws that were chilled. The Caesar dressing like sauce was too heavy and not great. The crab claws by themselves probably would have been good. And the cocktail sauce - came from a jar or something. Lacked flavor and tasted like low grade ketchup. Again we've loved Blue Crab for years. No need to go back with so many other choices in New Orleans. The view is spectacular. I hope they return to what they used to be. Y'all let me know if they do.

He told us about the specials and my mouth was drooling when he said soft shell crab. We started with the smoked salmon dip which was so creamy and delicious. For entrees the hubby had the blackened drum topped with blackened shrimp over Brabant potatoes. He was kind enough to give me a bite and oh boy it was so good. I, of course, had the fried soft shell crab special over smoky asparagus. The crab was topped with more crabmeat and a beurre blanc sauce. The crab was cleaned so well and then lightly fried. It was a very fat crab and every bite was a culinary delight. This was by far the best soft shell crab dish I have ever had. I certainly don't say that lightly because I eat soft shell crabs from the start of the season right up to the end. We were so full that there would be no need to eat dinner. Then Vince of course mentioned the desserts and we chose the chocolate peanut butter doberge cake with chocolate ganache. We told him to make it to go and do not open the box when he brought it to the table! Overall, Station 6 treated us to one of the best meals we have ever had. What a good place to get a real flavor of local seafood cuisine in New Orleans…read more We got this suggestion from one of our colleagues and took her up on this restaurant. A bit out of town but worth the drive. Arriving about 7 PM the place was packed with a 20 minute wait time. We waited. Sat down and got served very quickly with the super waitress. Drinks came quickly and so did our order. We started with the Seafood gumbo soup. Loaded with shrimp, rice, crab, and mire, this dark, semi thick soup was outstanding! Highly recommend this starter. Looking at a menu with many many seafood choices I went with the Redfish Ponchartrain entrée. You get a choice of two ways it's prepared. I chose the blackened way. Not over spicy, but very flavorful. Decent size portion of fish. The meal also included Angel hair pasta with a cream and garlic sauce. I took a hard pass on the sauce and went with their marinara, which happened to be featured that days lunch menu. Typically this red sauce is not available. It was very well done. On the thicker thicker side for sauce, not too sweet, not too bland either. I steered away from the cream sauce as it was pretty heavily loaded with garlic. Throughout the meal, our server continually refilled my water and sweet tea. Good sweet tea as it wasn't super sweet. No question about it. I would come back to this restaurant.

"BEST SEAFOOD IN NOLA"…read more I absolutely love this place. The food is always good. When I am in town this is a must and much needed for the belly. The staff is always courteous and nice which does not make it hard to always returning because they treat you with the NOLA hospitality. The food is fresh, fried to perfection, tasty and impressive with proportions. My little brother had a visit here for the first time and he was so impressed his plate was empty in minutes. Fried Catfish / Shrimp with fries. Piled high and full of freshly fried seafood straight from the GULF. No fake SWAI located here. It has the perfect taste, flavor and crisp. My baby brother said the fries is the beginning of a feast when they are good. The lunch specials are also impressive for the price and amount of food you receive. I had the soup and salad. You can pick which salad you want out of about 5 choices and gumbo or shrimp and corn soup. The shrimp salad has nicely fried shrimp. I did not care for the iceburg lettuce but they charge $2.00 upcharge for romaine or spinach. I guess the key is to just get another salad and change the shrimp to fried. LOL My grandmother had the fried catfish, with seafood stuffing, and shrimp pasta with a rich Cajun alfredo sauce. It was so filling and delicious. My brother ordered potatoe salad and GUMBO. He lives in California so he does not get an opportunity to eat fresh seafood with a plethora of flavors.

One restaurant that locals constantly recommended to me was Drago's Seafood in Metairie, and now I completely understand why. I ordered the charbroiled oysters along with the crawfish platter that came with crawfish étouffée, crawfish mac and cheese, and fried crawfish. Every single thing on the table was incredible. The charbroiled oysters absolutely lived up to the hype rich, buttery, smoky, and packed with flavor. The crawfish platter was just as impressive and gave me a chance to try multiple Louisiana dishes all in one meal. What really stood out to me beyond the food was the service. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and patient with questions from someone who isn't from Louisiana and still learning the local food scene. You can tell they take pride in both the restaurant and the hospitality. The only downside is parking can get a little complicated because the place fills up fast, which honestly says a lot about how popular it is. Just plan ahead or expect a short wait finding a spot.
