We were greeted with soft, warm bread and butter, and I always appreciate when a restaurant serves whipped butter with bread. We may have over-ordered, but everything came out delicious, so no regrets. The A5 wagyu was seared perfectly. I love grilling steaks at home, but I don't fully trust myself with A5 yet, so this was such a treat. Both the lobster and bone marrow were rich and delicious, and they also did their mushrooms really well. The only dish I probably would have skipped was the tuna tartare, which didn't stand out quite as much as the other dishes. Major compliments to the ambiance theyve crafted in there, its probably one of the best steakhouse vibes in Austin. I've found scouting out locations based on their bread and butter offerings has yielded great success lately. We had oysters, roasted bone marrow, the gem caesar salad (expertly dressed), grilled madagascar prawns (incredible) and the amazing bread to start and it set the bar quality wise. The cocktails were very creative- my favorite being the Apple Spiced Mule which tasted like a refreshing apple pie. We followed up with the ribeye, decadent short rib gnocchi, scallops and sides. I'd say the only minor disappointment was the Mac and cheese, which wasn't as rich as we hoped. But everything else compensated for that. While staying and the Jw Marriott for a work conference we also got to celebrate our friends birthday. This place was pretty accommodating for a Thursday night and no reservations. The staff is welcoming and they do not rush you. The vibe was right for our group not too quiet but not overly loud and chaotic. I think we brought the chaos with our laughter. I honestly don't remember what we ordered from the looks of my pictures we had a variety of options at our table. Scallops, chicken, pasta, spinach, it was all good! We had no complaints but the biggest compliment was the spinach and pasta! Oh and the bread ! It's always the bread. My husband and I went to Dean's Italian Steakhouse for a friend's surprise birthday celebration. One of our friends made a reservation for our group of eight people. We drove up to the hotel that's part of the restaurant and got valet. Then we walked in to the restaurant. The restaurant is a good size. The hostesses were all very kind. We got there before our full party was there so the hostess in the front took us to the bar area where we found a few of our friends but there still weren't enough people there to get seated so we waited at the bar. We were eventually seated when a few more people in our party showed up. We were seated in a small room that had a few tables for larger parties. Our waitress came over quickly. She was very friendly and helpful. She was awesome the entire time. Our guest of honor hadn't arrived yet but she took our drink orders and answered any questions we had. She gave us menus to look over. Eventually the birthday boy showed up and was surprised. Success. The restaurant was dimly lit so when it was time to check the menu I had to use my phone flashlight to see it. We started off with some bread that they brought to our table. It was warm and soft and really good with butter that melts into the bread. For our main meal my husband and I ordered a Medium cooked 10 oz Flat Iron Steak, a Truffled Buccatini Pasta, and a Billionaires Potato. The steak was cooked a little more medium well and it was slightly saltier than I like but it was tender and really good despite that. The Truffled Buccatini Pasta was delicious. It was creamy and the chunks of bacon were plentiful and sweet which added extra flavor. The Billionaires Potato was tasty with fluffy potatoes and the bacon just elevated the flavor. We were seated fairly quickly but it took a while for the server to take our order. They give you bread while appetizers and meal is being prepared. I am a huge whiskey guy who loves an old fashioned, the pecan maple old fashioned was one of the worst I've ever had, it just doesn't work. They sell a watermelon margarita for $16, my gf wanted just a regular margarita with better tequila. They use teramana for theirs which is a horrible tequila, she upgraded to Ocho. Teramana bottle is $27, a Ocho is $45, my gf was charged $18 more per drink for a total of $34 a margarita because of an upgraded tequila. It's $.60 more per shot looking at it per bottle, and it's a fine dining restaurant so I get an up charge but a $18 one for $1 more max normally if 1.5 ounces in each drink is highway robbery, and made us never want to go back. Dean's filet: I liked the flavor of the sauces, but there was barely any lobster claw on top of the steak--about two small bites of lobster. The filet itself was extremely tender and perfectly cooked. Whipped potatoes: These were just alright. Extremely buttery, so I could only have a few bites. It came with a large portion, so easily shareable among 3 people. Crème brûlée: Nothing exceptional about it, but it was good. But here's where it all fell: Service: 2/5. I felt like I got forgotten once the entree came out. I was dining alone, so I ended up waiting ages for plates to be cleared. Dessert came out then the coffee (which I ordered at the same time) came out 10+ minutes later. Sat around for another 20 minutes after dessert just waiting for the check. Server completely disappeared. I had to wave down a busser passing by and ask for my check, because I was tired of waiting. Overall, just shy of two hours here when I'm dining alone? Way too long. In town for a show at the Moody Center and staying in the JW Marriott, we stop in for a bite to eat at Dean's Italian Steakhouse, which is located within the hotel, before the show. We came in during their happy hour and since the weather was nice, we sat at the outdoor patio right by the bar. After looking over the happy hour menu, which includes wine, cocktails and small plates we decide to order one of each of the appetizers to share. First up was the shrimp scampi and it was really tasty as the garlic butter sauce really set the stage for the shrimp. Next were the meatballs, you get 3, which sit in a creamy polenta sauce that is topped with Romano cheese that are very tender and flavorful. After that was the burrata toast which was nicely grilled and topped with truffle honey, almonds and an apricot compote which made for a really nice bite. The oysters Rockefellers were next in line and were topped with a hefty amount of creamed spinach, bacon, and breadcrumbs. They were well seasoned and tasted great. Lastly, was the steak tartare. It was tender and well-seasoned and paired well with the other apps. I also ordered their signature Old Fashioned, and it was made well. They use Redemption bourbon, vanilla demerara and black walnut bitters which made for a really nice smooth drink. I would order this again. The service is a bit cold. We were there for a conference and asked to have a separate bill each for our alcoholic drinks. The server did that but pushed back against the separate checks. I understand as a former server that splitting checks is considered a no-no, especially at a fine dining establishment. But this is a steakhouse in a conference hotel. I would think they would be willing to cater to the needs of conference-goers, each of whom have their individual parameters based on a budget that they have no control over. I know POS systems allow you to separate checks, so this really shouldn't be a problem, especially when the tip will come out to over $70. Be careful about ordering cocktails here. Our server up-sold us on a tequila, which turned our $16 margarita into a $70 margaritas. Make sure you know the price of what you are ordering. The food itself is mediocre. The raw bar is fine, but very overpriced at $75 and it only comes with six oysters, four shrimp, and two teaspoons of tuna tartar. I do not recommend the short rib gnocchi. The gnocchi itself is quite mushy, and the short rib overcooked and over-salted. The side of broccoli left much to be desired. It may have been charred perfectly but the texture was affected by the partially melted Parmesan, which really didn't complement the fresh vegetable. The only thing I could recommend is the key lime pie. Tart and sweet, just like it should be, with nicely charred fresh meringue on top. Awesome addition to the San Antonio food scene! Came here for a celebration dinner and we had a great experience. We started with a petite seafood plate, a lobster bisque and steakhouse wedge salad. I will start by saying that the seafood platter was good, but none of the seafood was outstanding or particularly special. I probably wouldn't order it again. Everything else, however, was amazing. The lobster bisque was rich and unique, it didn't have the usual cream but the flavor was so rich, it didn't need it. The steakhouse wedge was great, and it came with the biggest and most delicious slice of bacon ever. The steaks were the star of the show. We tried a filet mignon with lobster (Dean's style) and a wagyu strip (Santo style). The steak was melt-in-your-mouth and the sauces were delicious and complimented the steak so well. Seriously so good, one of the best steaks I've had in San Antonio. We also tried the truffled bucatini which was delicious! I would definitely get it again as well. Fantastic Thanksgiving experience at Dean's. It's great how many high end steakhouses Dean's had, and it's one I've been wanting to try for quite some time given the reviews. The vibe/decor was pretty standard for the peer group (I don't mean that in a bad way), but I thought the service from the main server stood out as being excellent. Other staff was mixed. Menu is pricey and I am not a fan of having to pay extra for butters and sauces, so almost want to take them down a peg for that, but I am in a good mood so I'll let it slide for now. I tried something off their not regular menu - a filet duo (2 4oz filets, one from Snake River and the other from an Aussie farm). It was pretty steep at $100 but I gotta say it was an incredible dish. Nice char on the outside and really perfect tender medium rare. Funny enough that steak came with 3 different sauces, but for $100 my steak better not have needed them. It was an absolute highlight and if the review was based on that alone absolute 5 star. Other dishes were a little more mixed with the branzino not drawing praise. Sides were the stuffing and mac and cheese which were very good. Also had a nice cab with my steak. I would def come back & recommend it to people . Dean's lived up to the hype and is the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion or have a date night if you want upscale but classic Italian steakhouse cuisine with fantastic service! I made reservations for 2 at 9:15 pm on Valentine's Day (Friday night). We arrived early at 8:50 pm and were seated about 5 minutes ahead of our reserved time. To celebrate Valentine's Day, they were giving each couple a rose which was such a nice touch! The ambiance of the restaurant is stunning... it's dimly lit, the noise levels are perfect for a romantic date night, and the table settings are classy (table cloths and long stem wine glasses). FAST FACTS: * Parking - JW Marriott valet will validate parking for 2 hours with a receipt for $15 (self-parking can also be validated from the host stand or server) * Reservations - available online through OpenTable * Loyalty program - earn 1 point for every dollar spent and redeem 250 points for $25 SERVICE - Our server, Hannah, was so attentive, personable, and took great care of us! Despite it being Valentine's Day, we received great service from start to finish... our water glasses were constantly refilled, food came out quickly, and both the manager and chef checked on us toward the end of the meal to ensure everything was to our liking. We were highly impressed! PRICING - The total was $169.95 after tax ($12.95) but before tip for wagyu meatballs ($18), two Dean's onion soups ($13 each), spicy shrimp strozzapreti ($29), 8oz petite filet ($57), topping of lobster butter ($7), and billionaire's potato ($20). I knew it would be a more expensive meal going into it but I felt like the portion sizes and food quality was well worth the price! Complimentary bread and whipped butter was served to the table. The bread is hot, soft, fluffy, and perfectly salted on top! WAGYU MEATBALLS (8/10) - These were juicy, flavorful, and seasoned really well! You get 5 meatballs with plenty of San Marzano sauce and Grana Padano on top. It only came with one piece of bread and I'm not sure if they would bring you more but the bread was grilled really well so it was crispy without tearing up your mouth when you take a bite. I'd order these again! DEAN'S ONION SOUP (10/10) - If you love French onion soup, this is a MUST order! The fact that they serve the soup with a pair of scissors to cut through the provolone cheese speaks for itself... it was one of the best French onion soups I have ever had! The broth is incredibly flavorful, the cheese is plentiful and perfectly melted, and the volume of onions was ideal. I'd order this again and would honestly go to Dean's JUST for the soup! SPICY SHRIMP STROZZAPRETI (9/10) - Delicious! The strozzapreti was cooked to the perfect al dente and the sauce had a nice balance of cheesiness from the Grana Padano, creaminess, and punches from the garlic and chile oil. It isn't overly spicy but they will bring you more red pepper flakes to add. The shrimp were cooked really well but I personally don't like when the tails are left, especially when the shrimp are mixed throughout the pasta and not just placed on top. I'd order this again! 8 OZ PETITE FILET (10/10) - Fantastic steak! It was prepared as a picture perfect medium rare and had a nice crust around the edges while still being juicy and tender inside. The lobster butter (additional $7 as a "Crown Your Steak" option) paired nicely with the savory flavors from the steak and had a strong lobster flavor. I'd order this again! BILLIONAIRE'S POTATO (10/10) - Ordinarily, I wouldn't pay $20 for a potato but I'm happy to say that this was well worth the money... it was one of the best twice baked potatoes I've ever had! I LOVE truffle so the freshly shaved truffles on top were a great addition and the actual flavor of the potato was fantastic... you could taste the cheeses but could also still taste the potato so it wasn't overbearing. I'd order this again! This was my first time at Dean's but I would definitely go back and will recommend it to others in the downtown Austin area! read more

Dean's Steakhouse delivered an exceptional late‑night experience for my wife and me. The space is beautiful warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed dinner. We started by splitting a delicious Caesar salad, and the oysters Rockefeller were outstanding. Even the table bread and butter were memorable. The true highlights, though, were the wagyu Bolognese and the scallops both perfectly prepared and packed with flavor. We arrived around 10 p.m., just an hour before closing, yet the staff never made us feel rushed. Service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming.
