Great location and selection of both common and exotic foods and fruits. I love that they always have their "in season" fruits in the front and the aroma always gets to me. However, my sister just bought a sack of potatoes from there and a lot of them were already molding. So just be careful of buying old foods. Other than that, great variety, and affordable. read more

I live right up the street, so you can imagine I'm at Dean's often. Why anyone would buy produce from Safeway or Lucky's, I have no idea. There is no fresher produce any where. And the prices are very reasonable. Dean himself seems like a grouch, but really a pretty nice guy once you get to know him. Almost all my produce comes from here. Also if you need fresh herbs, the selection is small but you don't have to may an arm and leg compared to the other places. I would hate to move out of Millbrae because I will miss Dean's. read more

Very reasonable priced produce. Service is always great. However, I do have to pay attention to some of the produce because they can be sometimes not of the best quality. One time I bought mango and it was very sour and the seed had like white little pockets (which is usually sign of aging). They do not sell meat hence the name Dean's produce. read more

Yes, a great variety of ethnic foods, meats and breads. Same with the vegetables and fruits. BUT check your receipt!!!! I checked the receipt while emptying the bag at home I was charged for items I never bought AND got OVERCHARGED for fruit by the pound. This is the SECOND time this happened to me at the same store!!!!!! I ever go to Dean's Produce in Millbrae again, I will check my receipt right after the clerk is done and BEFORE I leave the store!! read more

Check out their bargain box. This may sound weird, but I bought a big bag of cucumbers for $1 that were slightly moldy on the skin. They were perfectly fine when I washed them off and peeled them. And no, I did not get sick. Great prices... .89 for a HUGH mango?! Nice feta and love the olives. Its wonderful how they remolded and added more space. Now I dont have to push the old lady away to get to the cherries on sale. I really wish I lived near here, Id get my produce daily! read more

I'm super excited Dean's has moved into downtown San Mateo. My produce bill has dropped 50% and everything is pretty tasty. The staff are warm and welcoming. Some fruits are pretty ripe as you get them, but better than picked green and no flavor when you get home. This is a place where you need to know your produce, seasons and how much to buy. For those who have reviewed poorly for produce items, they should really review when fruit and veggies are in season! A peach tastes like junk now because they aren't in season! Wait till summer! Apples may be old/grainy because their season was 6 months ago! Congrats Deans and welcome to SM! read more

We recently moved into the neighborhood and Dean's quickly became one of our go-to stores. I am constantly amazed at how much good stuff they pack into this small grocery. Come here for fresh produce, baked goods, and European and Middle Eastern products all at a very reasonable price. I love this little local place. Good produce prices, parking, nice folks working there. I also love their international items like Russian dark rye bread, seledka, semechki, tushenka, sprats in oil, pelmeni, Canadian sour cream, etc. In addition, they have a very nice selection of spices for a very reasonable, I would say, cheap price. Best grocery store for produce. For $50 you can get 4-5 full bags with fresh product. I feed 4 people so the price does mater.

Fantastic family run establishment. We've been shopping here for 10 years now and the place is even better than when we started going. Lots of fresh high quality produce, often at much better prices than the supermarkets down the street. I recommend you try their fresh feta cheese. The greek is a little more salty than the french but both are good. If you have a question on produce or one of the products on their shelves they will give you a honest and reliable answer. read more

But:::: Just stay way from some Bologna they sell bought it two times and threw it out Bologna German Doctorskaya by Russkie Kolbasy. No info who/where is that producer. There is no expiration on this product, asked stuff, got OK answer, it looked OK too, went to garbage right after opening, all sleeky and fell apart + smell too strong for Bologna, I'm not sure how they can do this... very scary, anybody control such small stores in US ? will see them to get refund and post updates. I just found out that Dean's is carrying Del Prado Natural juices. These are the most amazing juices; the mango is good but the Pineapple ROCKS. I was in Costa Rica for vacation and I found it there. Thanks Dean's for selling this line. I will be in this weekend to buy more.... read more

I live on Broadway Ave and walking to Deans is almost a daily occurrence. The people working are very nice and helpful, Mediterranean music is always playing and fresh produce is hard to beat. Make sure you check the dates on refrigerated items as the older ones aren't removed right away sometimes. Love the European products like Pomi tomatoes for half the price at a whole foods. read more

we were strolling saturday morning for breakfast and found dean's produce on accident. i don't know why i never saw it there before but decided to check it out since the navel oranges were 39 cents a pound! there were about 7 different kinds of apples inside, greens seemed very fresh, and although the store didn't have much other stuff the produce section was kept nicely. i bought a week worth of vegetables and fruits, the total cost was around 12 bucks. now that's a fresh deal! read more

this place is fantastic. they have really fresh produce and its super reasonable. the parking around that area is free. you can get amazing fruit here and its mostly what is in season at that time so you know its fresh. they have really yummy fresh feta cheeses as well. read more

OMG! I LOVE DEAN'S!!!! I would call Dean's a produce and import shop (mostly European). There are two corners of the store filled with produce that is all fresh and very high quality. This place is close to my work and I stop by and grab fruit and veggies to share - everyone loves it! I have a few coworkers who grew up rurally on farms and they even say this stuff is fresh and good. It's near Burlingame so you'd expect the prices to be ridiculous but actually sometimes they beat out Safeway on price (and always in quality). They are the only ones who sold raw peanuts for boiling during that season. In addition to the produce they also have European sausages, chocolates, teas from all over the world, honeys, kefir, imported packaged cookies and an area of fresh nuts and a few freshly baked items from nearby places. I am missing a lot of things, you need to go inside and check this place out. I'll be in the cookie aisle. read more

I love this place and come here whenever I am in Millbrae. The produce is fresh and good quality. The prices are so much better than the grocery stores and the variety is incomparable. They also have a wide variety of ethnic foods and we always buy our feta cheese and Greek macaronia there. I wish there was Dean's closer to my house. Bought the Kabanosy sausages and the smoked pork loin a week ago, they're all gone. Really delicious. They have Italian green beans at a reasonable price and I found the 7 spices mix for middle eastern dishes. Produce looked really fresh and prices were cheaper than other places. I like the diversity of what they're selling cause I'm German and my husband is Lebanese, and we have 3 German-Lebanese "kids" (23,20,15) so I'm usually cooking dishes from either cuisine. My favorite produce stop in the whole area. Prices cannot be beat, and the quality's amazing. Also, they seem to be catering to a wide range of ethnicities, so there are constant surprises in here, too (last time I picked up some Turkish sage honey; I could just have easily have gone in for some Balkan biscuits). An incredible feta selection; my go-to stop for dandelion greens; all kinds of gorgeous pears; quince when it's in season; beats Trader Joe's for nuts and raisins, etc. I absolutely love this place, and occasionally make a 1-2 stop out of this and the Dumpling House nearby....
