I want to give them 4 stars because the quality of of their products, but all of that got thrown away because their customer service skill. I just can't bring myself to rate them higher than 1. The owner is astonishing rude and disrespectful. I came in to return berries with my receipt because they gave me the worst food poisoning in my adult life. I returned to the store because of the principle that I was ill for days, not because I was hung up on getting the $2.99 back. The owner shouted at me and cussed at me calling it "bullshit" as he threw the berries on the counter. I assured him I was not lying over $2.99. He did agree to exchange the item, but he also continued to berate me in front of other customers and told me I should take it up with the FDA. I believe the health department is probably a better option since they store the produce in the hot sun out front of their store. I visited the store today. Couple of things. The music was so loud. It was maybe Arabic or Israeli?! Don't know. Sounded like a youtube concert was playing and it did not sounds good and I like all types of music. You have people from different parts of the world working there, so perhaps they don't like that type of music, but cannot say anything. Lower the volume at least. Secondly, it was colder inside the store than outside. I really feel bad for people working there. Make some changes! Nothing comes close to Trader Joes. Nothing! read more

The store is kinda hidden and obviously parking can be tough, since this is the Burlingame Ave of Millbrae and clearly this is where the rubber meets the road. I've been in at least a dozen times and this most recent visit brought me to something that I've become quite intrigued by. Fresh jam. Yes, fresh jam!! I know, I should have covered this part of the foodie aisle years ago, but I was reminded of the PB&J crustless sandwiches of my childhood and never wanted to relive those moments. Until now. I picked up a jar of fresh blueberry jelly and slathered some over an English muffin with Almond butter and boy oh boy was it delicious!! I also noticed that they offer some exotic fruits that typical grocery stores don't offer all that much. Items such as: Papaya Young coconut Bitter melon Dragon fruit Durian (stanky stank fruit I think) and so so many others I wanna visit more often, but I find myself at Safeway far too often. A Medi/Greek market that was playing gorgeous Greek ballads when here for an after-dinner visit for lovely King Kong plums, peaches, nectarines... It is not ok to sell customers produce that is rotten. I trusted Dean's produce and I assumed their quality is high but I was totally disappointed. I personally will never shop there again. There is way more variety and fresh produce here than the other local Asian markets. However, it's hard to beat the quality and prices at the nearby Farmer's market on Saturdays or the Safeway Down the street sometimes. If you want middle eastern ingredients, this is the place to go. Parking is ample on the street or nearby lots. The cashiers are extremely helpful and nice. They'll even give you a box to carry your groceries if you don't want to pay for the bags. read more

I don't know who Dean is, but Dean knows what time it is. This place has better produce than the Safeway down the street and they properly store their produce so it does not spoil so quickly. It also looks like they get some of it from local sources, so it's not picked super early. Best place to get basil. The case is located in the front by the cashier. The cashier helps you get the products. Well, I didn't think the cashier was very friendly. This is the place to get your fresh produce. I love this place. It opens early enough that when I get off from work, I can get them early without the crowds. Their produces are shipped fresh each day and you can pick and choose. They don't packaged their produce like some other places. They have some of the most exotic fruits and vegetables that often are seen in asian markets. The prices are very competitive which makes them very attractive to consumers. read more

When we lived in Millbrae, we frequented this grocery store. I loved it because the produce is so fresh and less expensive than Safeway that's just down the street. The produce is exceptionally fabulous in the summer. :) Employees are ok. Not super friendly like other stores but decent. They also have exotic desserts and foods from different countries too. Bread from Sheng Kee, Kinder and Milka chocolates, baklava, etc. Fun place to explore. Great fresh produce at great prices. Wish there was something similar near our new residence. The produce is NOT organic but the price and food quality compensates for this as well as the VARIETY of stuff! This store is perfect for a small grocery shopping instead of an hour adventure in safeway. There is minimal to no lines, check out is very fast. Store has a unique choice of international imported foods. My favorite is of course, Russian section :) Good selection of honeys, chocolates, cookies and fresh produce. The only shortcoming: not all fresh produce is super fresh or best quality. Some of it get spoiled in a couple of days. But that's maybe 20% only. You have to find what is really good there. The consumer basket there is around 40% cheaper than in the neighboring safeway. Overall a better deal plus has some unique international foods there. A gem of the local trade. read more

The moment you walk to the front doors, you'll see displays of fruits and vegetables. The produce ranges from every day produce to specific types of produce. If you need lemongrass, they have it! If you need bean sprouts, they have it! If you need okra, they have it! If you need potatoes, like yucca or sweet, they have it! If you need lemon, fruits, other common items, they will have it! Even when I need produce for my asian dishes, I'm usually satisfied with all of the needs I can find here. They do also carry some more "exotic" kinds of dry goods too. For some reason, the Justin brand almond butter here is in a better quality state than the ones at Safeway. They also have dairy products, but no lactaid milk. Basically, if you want a GREAT deal on produce and goods with GREAT quality of items, you should come here. I got fresh bright green okra, golden fragrant raspberry, succulent cactus fruit, thick hearty Manila mangoes, guava, blood oranges, sweet juicy Muscat grapes, and raw shelled Almonds!! I've never seen almond fresh off the vine. What the hellll....this place is amazing!! Oh and chocolate bar that was 67 % cacao +. Flavorful olive oil! Extra virgin! All the produce fresh fresh fresh! I stopped buying fruits and veggies at my local supermarket and come to Dean's for my produce now. The selection and quality at Dean's is just superb. The fruit especially; the taste and the sweetness of the fruit at Dean's is just superior to the fruit you get at Safeway, Luckys, Trader Joe's and the other markets in the area. Last time I was here, I was able to get a selection of 6 different types of pears (yes I am pears obsessed). Not just your Bartlett or Bosc, but a red anjou, a comice and a Concorde pear! Yikes, that sounded nerdy. But nevermind, the fruit is worth the extra time and effort to come by. read more

This is my go to place to buy fresh produce. I get their double happiness oranges whenever they're in stock. They carry all the specialty items I love to use in my cooking including, thyme, basil, sage, San Marzano tomatoes, different blends of olive oils, anchovies, capers, and Dececco pasta. Good selection of pears and berries too. Everything is reasonably priced, and in a good location. It's near restaurants, coffee, banks, and the post office. I only come here to buy fruits but I'll stop coming here. I was picking the Mexican mango that I like firm. The mangoes were soft so I tried to get the ones on the bottom. The old man owner yelled out "HEY YOU CAN'T DO THAT." And the expression on his face was very mean. I don't mind if you say it in a nice way. Instead the old owner was so unprofessional and rude. This is but just a short list and example of what kind of products and groceries you might find at Dean's Produce in Millbrae. This is a small family owned market that carries a variety of fresh produce, veg, fruit. In the back are refrigerators where you might find some Vitasoy type products and drinks, and nearby are some Middle Eastern style cheese. On the left side of the entrance are various groceries from other parts of the world. The most interesting of them all? The bakery, baked goods, bread shelf near the cashier. Russian and Middle Eastern type flat breads. Don't miss the Hamati Bread - baked sesame seed bread that looks like a donut, but is a true slice of heaven when toasted up again (made by a place in San Bruno that also doubles as a pizza shop). Prices are not always the lowest but usually quite reasonable when certain items are in season. read more

I tried to check if any Rotten grapes in the bag today, but a Man who stood by the front door came to ask me stop taking those grapes out. He's rude, I'm not sure if he's the owner, I 'm not picking the good ones, but just want to take away the rotten ones from the bottom of the bag. He's very impolite and I left immediately. I don't come to buy rotten fruit. Anyway, their price is good but Most of the Fruits wouldn't last more than 2 days, You have to finish it fast. Someone told me they imported the most mature quality so it's price can keep low. Also, a few man always stand outside the front door, seems to check out the customers. Not only the employees have bad services, but the owner have bad attitiude. I never see them greet customers. Why would people want to go shop there ? Here, the customer is never right. I was a frequent customer here, coming here at least once a week over the last year I love patronizing local businesses and with Dean's Produce was no different. Until last week. After coming home I realized that the receipt had the same item counted twice. I came back to the store to claim the cash back from the extra item (I also brought the original item). The cashier listened but refused to give the cash back, claiming that the itemized item could be for a different item (that she didn't remember what it was). Neither do I. I know that it is just a few bucks, but it's about the principle, not money. Do they ever heard the expression "The Customer Is Always Right"? I guess not. I even bought an "I *heart* Dean's Produce" reusable bag because I love(d) this place so much. I even once in a while bought their milk and eggs, knowing that it is more expensive than from Trader Joe's, just because I wanted to patronize this place. Some of the produce here is cheaper that those of the safeway and trader joe across the street. The parking is here or miss and I believe the minimum for card purchases is $5. read more

Each aisle is neatly stacked and you'll find many hidden surprises. Asian egg noodles, waterchestnuts, greek olives, pita bread, etc etc. It's all around a fun place to shop with lots of fresh food and good deals.
