I came here after my car broke down I can't recommend this place enough. I needed work done since the tensioner on my car was damaged and they replaced it and the belt with no problem and at a literally unbeatable price. Brought my car in to fix a check engine light so I could trade it in. They originally quoted $3,000, then it jumped to $4,500, then $7,500. I said go ahead and just fix it. After 2 months, they said it was done and the light was off. I drove it 15 miles home -- check engine light came right back on. Brought it back, they found more problems and wanted another $2,000. Now I've spent $9,500, the car is worse than before, and the check engine light is still on. Would not recommend. read more

If you're new to the area or looking for a new mechanic, this is your shop. I just moved here for a job a few months ago and today had to find a mechanic to fix my car. I needed my thermostat housing replaced and I had bought the part. I had an appointment at a nearby shop. But they told me they don't install outside parts and qouted me nearly a grand and scheduled me a week out. On the way home I passed Dearing and, on a whim, stopped by to see if they could help. Not only did they get it done for less than 1/4 of what the other shop quoted, THEY FINISHED TODAY. The father and son who run it are very helpful and kind. I am extremely glad I took a chance. My husband brought his car in and after 2 months of work and nearly $10,000 they didn't fix the problem.

They charged me 500 dollars for a light bulb and a fuel cap. Light bulb replacing took them "1.5 hours" while I learned from YouTube later that it takes less than 1 minute. They also said that I needed to fix the suspension for 2500 dollars and I took the car to another technician, and they said NOTHING wrong with the suspension. STAY AWAY. My car needed new brakes and routers they fixed it in about hour. I had to go back there for them to tell me they installed old ones. After I waited all day for them to fix it, 8am-5:30pm, I find out they didn't work on my car and I had to go back another day: they said it was fixed but my brakes keep making a screeching noise when I stop. I work in Killeen and could not find a mechanic to work on my Audi who would listen to my requests without immediately talking about charging me thousands of dollars without even looking at my car. I found Dearing Automotive on Yelp and brought my car to them based on reviews. Without a doubt, this is an honest garage with honest prices. I gave the receptionist, Jackie, three phone numbers to reach me, including my brother in law. I thought it would be a huge pain to contact me with my convoluted communication plan-- no issues throughout. Jackie is the first great thing about this place. Jackie gave me an accurate estimate of how long the job would take and called before ordering parts to let me know how much they would cost. After I told Jackie what I wanted, Juan came out, introduced himself, listened to what I wanted, and actually remembered what I said. He had Jackie call me for clarification on our conversation. They noticed I had some new work done that wasn't holding up. They didn't even consider trying to weasel money out of me and told me to go back to the mechanics that botched it to save some money. Since I live out of town, they let me pay by phone and came to pick my brother up so he could drive my car back! Then they showed him my old parts, explained what was repaired, and why the parts were bad. And I didn't have to pay thousands of dollars! I couldn't be more relieved or happier with Dearing Automotive. These people are friendly on the phone and in person, work on Saturdays, and even offer service in Spanish. NEVER NEVER going there! Three years ago my almost brand new car needed to bearing replacement for front driver side and I left my car there, JUAN fixed it but it had several new noises, I came back and talked to him, he drove it and said" everything is ok" but if an uber driver (which drove 50k miles a brand new car) says it has new noises, it's true, because I was driving more than 10 hours a day and I'm very familiar with all of the noises of my car. So I jacked up the car and find the source of one of the noises! He forgot to take out the metal wire which is used for hanging the brakes caliper for avoiding any damage to the brake hoses! That common mistake is very dangerous for you, because sometimes it's ruining the brake hose for a long time of driving! So, I came back and gave him the metal wire and he smiled! Again I asked him to drive more and finding the big noise, he drove again and again said" you are a peaky person, nothing is wrong!!!) After 17k miles I need to replace many parts of my brake system, on 34k suspension system of the front driver side damaged, on 86k again brake system problem, on 132k cv shaft of the driver side damaged, on 180k I replaced all the brake systems again, finally last week I went to a shop for alignment, asked him about all of the problems, he said "HAVE YOU EVER REPLACED FRONT DRIVER SIDE BEARINGS" I said yes, he said is a problem, when they replaced the bearings, they bent the hub assembly under the press, he opened the wheel and showed me! It was wobbling!!! I went to the dealer and they said the same thing!!! I spent more than $2400 for Mr JUAN mistake!!! If three years ago he said" ok, I'm going to fix it and you have to pay for it, it would be very cheaper for me, I don't want to say he is an idiot but when you are not sure, or you are not experts in your job, you can say" I don't know, instead of it's nothing wrong" I never forgive him and my family's negative energy is following him and his life, I don't want to say But I'm pretty sure he is going to spend more than my wasted money and my wasted hundreds hours in the mechanic shops; in hospital for his health because I have 4 kids at home and he burned their money and opportunities. I have gone to this shop for 15 years, even before it was owned by Juan, and he and Jackie and Cesar have continued the honest, small town garage mentality on which the original Dearing's was founded. They are thorough, transparent about pricing, and have worked me in at times when they really didn't have the manpower, because of my emergency. They have always treated me like "family" and will take and pick customers up within a reasonable area - I'm a teacher, so this has been invaluable to me. I have been a loyal customer of Juan and Dearing Automotive since I moved into Canyon Creek in 2008, but today I was truly blown away with the honesty and commitment Juan shows to his customers. I stopped by yesterday claiming I felt I had issues with my breaks, and he invited me to bring in my BMW so he could give it a once over and see what needed to be done. I got a call to come pick it up my vehicle and when I arrived he told me he replaced the front and back breaks and had resurfaced the rotors all FREE OF CHARGE under warranty. He had done my front breaks a couple of years ago and my back back breaks a year and a month ago. But he decided to replace both front and back under warranty even though the 1 year warranty was already up on both front and back breaks! This is a job that could have cost me about $1000. Juan could have charged me for this work as the breaks were legitimately out of warranty, and I would have willingly paid it, but Juan values his customers and the relationships he establishes with his customers. He said to me that he was sure I noticed the issue with the breaks before the warranty period was up, and because the issue happened within the warranty period he honored it, not just for the front breaks, but for both the front and back breaks. With so many unscrupulous businesses out there these days only too willing to take your money and not see the value of a customer relationship, it is so refreshing to know there are still businesses like Dearing Automotive, who are about their customers, and have ethics and values. SHADY MECHANIC - TAKE YOUR VEHICLE ELSEWHERE My car battery died and I had it towed to the shop. They tried to charge me over $100 JUST IN LABOR to replace the battery. On their invoice they charged me 2 hours in labor... all to swap a battery that takes 5 minutes. When I questioned the lady at the front desk about it, she became defensive and gave me an attitude about it and gave me some BS excuse that they probably thought I wouldn't understand. Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem because my battery light still came back on. When I took my vehicle in again, they charged me an additional $100+ just to DIAGNOSE the problem, when the battery was under warranty by them! Listen, I understand mechanics will charge a fee for diagnostics, but to charge over $100 when the part/labor is still UNDER WARRANTY is ridiculous! The worst part is that when I dropped the vehicle off with Juan, he assured me that the battery was under warranty by them and it would be covered. It was not until I actually went back to go pick up the car that they surprised me with an invoice. Classic bait & switch. Save your money, take your vehicle to a AAA certified mechanic. This is not one of them. They are shady crooks that will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. read more

They were timely, communicative, economical and thorough. I am a shade tree mechanic that likes to think I know what I am doing, but also understand the limitations of my knowledge. These guys immediately demonstrated complete and thorough knowledge of in depth details. I would trust them inherently. I brought my beat up $4000 honda s2000 with low compression in cylinder one with the expectation of a rebuild and a bent or bad exhaust valve. They confirmed it and had the head rebuilt very economically. They also managed to get this 20 year old, 168k mile car to purr like it came off the lot. The engine revs as smoothly as possible and I am completely happy. The whole rebuild including parts was done for less than the cost of a new motor. read more

I've taken our cars there on several occasions and have always been pleased with the work. But I had to write about the last time we had a car in, this past week. I woke up to a car that wouldn't start. We tried jumping it, nothing. Called our free roadside assistance and they tried charging and jumping it, nothing. So they towed it to Dearing. Dearing tried a slow charge over several hours, didn't work. Just needed a new battery. So they ask me if I know when I got it and if it might still be under warranty. Honestly, I'm not sure and I'm at work and we need to get our car this afternoon. I don't have time to go home, look for the receipt and figure it out. So I tell them to just replace the battery. When I show up, the guy tells me when he pulled the battery he found a sticker on it that it was purchased from a local parts store, and a code that says it was manufactured less than 3 years ago, so there's no way it's out of warranty. So get this: the guy gets in his car, drives to the parts store, presents the battery, gets a new one at no charge since it's still under full warranty, comes back and installs it and I only get charged the labor to install the battery. Now THAT is above and beyond, truly superb service read more

Well, two weeks later I'm sitting on the side of the road because my serpentine belt broke. With no way to start my car my alternative was to call the road side assistance company. I've been taking my cars here for over 6 years, and they've always been exceptionally fair. They are really good about telling me what needs to be fixed, versus what could be fixed. I've move a lot, and the first two things I look for are a mechanic I can trust, and a dentist I can trust. (Weird, but true) When they told me on my first visit, "you could fix all these things, but really you just need to fix this one", I was in. After taking the car to the dealership for computer module replacement for $705.00, they then informed me that my spark plugs and an ignition coil needed to be replaced to the tune of $675! Best customer service I have experienced at an auto shop. My car broke down, I called to inform them i was going to have my car towed to their shop. They told me to hold off on the tow truck and let them send a mechanic out to look at the car to see if they could identify the problem on site where my car broke down to save me money. They were there in less than 15 minutes looking at my car. Unfortunately, had to tow it to their shop. Worked very well with me and my father, my car was ready the next day. Overall, the people here are very nice and honest! This Place is under new management If this had negative stars i would choose that option. This shop is the worst car place i have ever been to. i took my car here for a transmission problem which they rebuilt. Every day it was the next day then 3 weeks later i finally got it back on a Friday. We took the car to San Antonio for the weekend and when we got back i noticed the same problems and checked and no fluid in the transmission. That mon i asked to have it towed and he said he couldn't cause it was more than 10 miles. (All stuff due to improper instillation) it has now been over a week even though it was supposed to be done last wend. Now the owner Juan starting getting snappy with me when i call to find out when my car will be done. i was even told even though there open on sat warranty work is not important enough. then after everything he made me pay for the towing. at that point i was so tired of dealing with this place i paid it so i could leave this is the worst business save yourself time and money and go somewhere else. read more

I have tried Dearing Automotive for repairs a couple of times and been very disappointed every time. Each repair has been 2-3 days longer than estimated and there is a big lack of communication each time. They will tell you yeah it will be ready this afternoon and you call at five and hoping they just forgot to call and they say yep we need it another day. Then the stress of scrambling to arrange a car for the next day and so on. Two repair that I can think of one major : a whole new clutch and the other minor no start both a disaster. Along with promises to comp a part or something just to argue with them and end up paying for it to end there drama. I am a business owner and every minute and mile I cannot be using the vehicle is money lost, customers not getting there service, an employee not getting paid to work. What a nightmare!!! My car was in the shop for MONTHS not days MONTHS. We needed our car worked on due it shaking really bad when idle and you could hear there was and exhaust leak. Since it had gotten to the point it wasn't drivable we had it towed here. We were told it needed ALL new exhaust from the muffler all the way to the engine.... Great! But we needed it fixed and ended up borrowing a family members car to get around. When calling to check status on the car ... "We are still waiting for parts" is all we would hear each time. come to find out parts had not even been ordered yet!! Seriously?! Parts were finally ordered in November! And we just received our car today and it's nearly February. Our car had been sitting for so long we are going to need to get new tires and the paint has started to do something weird. Not to mention one of out mirrors is broken and cannot adjust. And to add insult to injury.... nothing was fixed. The car shakes like hell when idling, and you really can't drive it over 45mph for fear of shaking to death. seriously? For almost 2k what was really fixed on my car? I needed the wiring for a break light fixed in order to pass inspection and all the other places said "well...
