We had tried this place a while back and remember it being better, so this visit was a bit of a letdown. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which was definitely the highlight, but the food didn't live up to it. Overall, everything tasted overly salty and just average. My wife and I were lamenting the other day about how there was no authentic pie shop in/or near Escondido. We started to recount some of the kind of pies we used to enjoy. Then out of the blue, we were watching a show and a coconut cream pie was on the screen glistening and winking at us to bolster our appetite for some delicious slice of decadence. Well, as my mouth was salivating from that encounter, I set my sights on finding a coconut cream pie for us to enjoy. And lo and behold, what do I see as I was driving home from Palomar Hospital? Debbie's Restaurant & Pie Shoppe!!! So, I immediately made a quick turn into the parking lot with my sights on seeing a coconut cream pie in person. Alas, the parking lot was nearly empty (it was about 2:55 pm) and the restaurant was looking empty. By the way, great decorations on the outside and inside the restaurant are colorful and inviting! Well, restaurant was empty. But, not the refrigerator!!! There so many different kind of pies. Wow! I asked a very nice lady if there were any coconut cream pies available. She looked in the refrigerator and there was one coconut cream pie left. This brought a big smile to my face!!! Yes!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Brought the special treasure home and was so excited to try a slice. The crust was buttery and the coconut cream filling was perfectly sweet with the coconut bits and the whipped cream with toasted coconut bits on top was amazing!!! Stopped in for a quick Saturday lunch with a girlfriend. Nice little menu of breakfast and lunch diner staples. We both got the 1/2 sandwich and a slice of pie special. Debbie's is such a cute spot! It's located in the plaza in San Marcos, right near Manna Korean BBQ. I stopped by to grab some food to go and got the corned beef hash and also picked up two slices of pie. I love getting out, but my husband's more of a homebody, so I always bring him something back. Debbie's offers both canned and fresh-style corned beef hash. They were out of the canned (my favorite), so I went with the fresh this time. Honestly, the portion was huge...one meal was enough for both me and my husband! I also grabbed slices of boysenberry and Dutch apple pie, and wow... the pies were amazing. The staff is super friendly too. I'll definitely be coming back! Just a heads up though...their hours are a little limited since they're a breakfast and lunch place. Debbie's has been our "Go-To" spot for a several years now, it's part of our routine, Debbie's, buy a lotto ticket next door at the liquor store, Costco and whatever other errands that day.. Enough about me, let's get on to Debbie's, shall we..... Debbie's has always been consistently excellent with their food, service and prices... Yes, Debbie's changed hands a year or so ago...I admit, I was worried, I hoped they would keep everything the same, and they did just that.. It's the same awesome diner as when Debbie owned the joint.... Kudos to the new owners, they kept everything exactly the same.... Same consistently incredibly tasty food, Same excellent service, and believe or not, they kept the prices the same.... #WINNING The OG servers, Debbie 2.0, Mary, and Karen are simply the best...geez, where else can you go and they know you so well, when you walk in the door, they submit your "regular" order.... Ok, I love their Cali Cobb Salad, no onions, with a side of the delicious homemade bleu cheese dressing...but, over the years, I've had pretty most of the items on their menu, and yes they're equally as tasty..... So I'm ending with this, if you want incredibly tasty comfort food, super service (where the staff actually remembers you;) and fair prices, go to Debbie's... We went on a sunday morning around 9am and it wasnt packed at all. However as the morning continued, it did get more busy. Our food was delicious and the service was pretty quick. The atmosphere is dated and not fully clean. The greeter was helpful and courteous; she sat us promptly. Unfortunately, the chairs at our table are in dire need of being re-padded. We all sat down and it felt like we were going to fall through the chair at any moment. My chair had a small lump of padding left, but my daughter's and husband's chairs had none. They were pretty much just sitting on the frame. My husband ordered the San Marcos Special and it was awful for him. Something really smelled off, like something had gone bad but was still cooked. We realized it was the bacon, in addition to the bread used for the French toast. It was the same for my daughter, as she had the single French toast order. My omelet was good. The side of sourdough toast that came with it was super dry and chewy. I get times are hard, but using old or expired ingredients is not good. Overall, we will not come back nor do we recommend. read more

Such a cute local spot. Very home environment. It was a little hot inside but they have some ceiling fans. I got a hot coffee & it was average but good. The blueberry muffin was really dry that's why they give butter on the side. I really enjoyed my breakfast burrito. It was super super hot!! But that's a good thing bc u can tell they made it fresh. I was able to get a side of salsa with it. The cherry pie is super tart & coconut pie was okay. Our server was really nice & surprisingly the food came out super fast right after we ordered. Debbie's Pie Shoppe popped up on a search and, when I saw that they were a full-fledged bakery - in business for 27 years! - I knew what I had to do... bring this home for wifey: THE PECAN CHOCOLATE CHIP PIE What?! I had no idea this was a thing! This concoction of toasted pecans, luscious chocolate, that pecan, slightly mapley, rich and creamy-goo that happens when things are properly caramelized and lovingly prepared...holy cow, it was so outrageously good, it was in fact beyond description. I can't read the restaurant because I did not eat there but called two days prior to Thanksgiving for a cherry pie. Last minute my grandpa decided he wanted a cherry pie so I was on a mission to find one. I called in the lady let me know there was three left in the case. She was so kind. Speaking of supporting small businesses, Cathie's scrapbook lead us to Debbie's Restaurant & Pie Shoppe this month. While clearly their pies are a focal point for them, they also serve both breakfast and lunch (but they close at 3:00 p.m. each day). We sampled a slice of the Dutch Apple Crunch (adding a little ice cream on the side). Although it was pretty good, we think the draw here is actually the people. We found all 3 employees that we interacted with during our visit to be friendly and willing to engage in our conversations and share some laughter with us. If you are able to visit by December 11th, be sure to consider contributing to their 13th Annual "PJ Angels" Program. We may now have officially entered the holiday season, but collecting pajamas for needy children affected by personal hardship and/or homeless is a worthy effort that we support no matter the time of year. This isn't a fancy place but it definitely has charm. It reminds me of Americana diners on route 66. I loved the old black and white photographs on the walls. There are stands that display items for sale. I was tempted to buy as those ceramic pie containers were so beautiful. But since I'm a great cook but a horrible baker, it would just be more clutter. The ladies that work here are super sweet and very welcoming. There were few people dining here which seemed like regulars and the ladies that worked here knew them by name and what they like to eat/drink. I loved that! We ordered... Coffee Orange juice Spinach mushroom omelet Side of bacon As we were sharing, they split the omelet and hashbrowns before serving. The Omelet was delicious and the bacon was perfect for me. My wife picked up an apple crumb pie for $22+ and it was the worst apple pie i have ever tried. The apple filling was ok, but the crumb topping was just oatmeal with no flavor at all and the crust was blah as well. For the high price i was expecting way better. If you love oatmeal, you might like this pie but i suggest you buy a slice first instead of a whole pie. I have eaten here before a long time ago and the food was alright. We stoped by after an appointment in Pacific Beach on our way home to Vista. We've eaten here before, but it is not local to us. We were surprised that one of our favorite waitresses from the now closed Vista Cafe, Mary is working there. It was nice catching up briefly. Anyway she was our waitress and took our order. The staff is attentive and seemed to have a fairly brisk lunch crowd for a Friday. I order the Asian Chicken Salad and my husband ordered a Ham and Cheddar Omelette. Both were excellent, except maybe my lettuce in the salad could have been drained better. That was some water in the bottom of the bowl that caused the dressing to be diluted. Otherwise, the lettuce was very fresh and favorable, as well as the additional ingredients of mandarin oranges, peanuts, cucumbers, green onions, snow peas, and green peppers with an Asian dressing. My husband enjoyed his omelette and the hash browns served either it. The Resturant is very clean a comfortably decorated. We were allowed to pick where we were seated since they weren't overly busy or crowded. The bathroom was also very clean and orderly. The entire staff was very friendly and courteous. When I think of breakfast spots, I generally think of corner shops or stand alone buildings with big store fronts and plenty of outside seating. It's a bit out of the ordinary to find a breakfast nook in the middle of shopping center; but with Manna BBQ right next door, it isn't completely unheard of. Anyway, new to the neighborhood and free for breakfast with my family, we headed to Yelp to find close diners that could satisfy our need for a hometown feel to replace our old morning spots of Honey's in Encinitas and Hideaway in Solana Beach. Upon entering the first things we noted were the coarse carpeting and cheap furniture, both which you may see in an office setting. This may not really be the restaurant's fault, as again, this is a shopping center; but it does feel like Debbie's may have taken over an H&R Block and kept what was on hand. They are trying to give it more of a diner feel with towels hanging from wall hooks and some pillows and benches for homey flair. Still, the cramped setting and overall atmosphere are slightly off-putting. I had the House Special Chicken Livers, something I was really looking forward to as I grew up eating them in a variety of ways. And I'm not sure what I was expecting, if I thought it would be the bacon wrapped roasting my father used to make before Padres games, or the seasoned fried and gravy coated bowls at Roscoe's, but here their chicken livers are a bit ordinary. Fried well and still having that fresh and unctuous texture I like, but a bland seasoning, made them just okay. The best part of the breakfast was the fruit cup which was overflowing with very sweet and ripe pineapple and cantaloupe. I also had scrambled eggs which were average and a Cinnamon Roll that was split among the table. My 6 month old daughter was a fan. My wife chose the House Special Chicken Fried Steak, which is her basic go-to whenever we go anyplace new for breakfast. The meat itself was small, had a bit of a uniform cut, which made it feel more like a breaded hamburger patty instead of a cube or round steak. I didn't have any myself, so I can't personally critique the flavor; but I'm pretty sure eating here at Debbie's was the beginning of my wife's on-going rant that no diner will ever be able to match Hideaway in terms of this dish. The Home Fries she had on the side were cooked well, the peppers and onions soft and a good amount of caramelization on the potatoes. But, they suffered from too little salt and seasoning, leaving them nice to look at, but very bland. I assume this is just because it's safer to trust the customer to add their own salt and pepper. And our son had the Kids' Menu Pancake with Sausage. They're served basic, silver dollar style, instead of with a smiley face or Mickey Mouse head like you'd see elsewhere. Most kids won't care about the presentation, being happy as long as there is syrup on the table. But, as a parent, it would be nice to see that extra effort. Strawberries and cream on top, blueberries or even chocolate chips as an option. All in all, a slightly below average outing for breakfast. It's been a while since we've been here and not once has anyone had any interest in coming back. One day, we may try grabbing a pie, but until then, when you can get a bit more wow out of a fast food breakfast for cheaper, it's tough to justify coming agin. Especially when there's better fare at Mamma Kat's or Beach Plum nearby. read more

This place was good for a local spot open on New Year's Day. The French toast was very yummy. The bacon, eggs and pancakes were good, but I didn't feel there was something special to them either. The service here was very slow and at times nonexistent. I had to let staff know on two occasions (one that I would like water and another that we needed the check) by going up to the hostess in the front. They were friendly tho. And the portion was very large. I got one egg, 4 bacon, 2 French toast and home fries for $17. read more
