This place is legit. It's a new shop so it's easy to get an appointment. The place is super nice inside and they give haircuts to match. As a guy, it's hard to find a cool spot where you can go relax, shoot the stuff with other guys and get yourself cleaned up. This place takes care of everything listed. Chose this place because of the reviews which apparently are fake. I'm from out of town and don't know the area. I arrive 10 min early for my 3pm appointment. There is one person in the chair finishing up. And only one barber. The barber tells me there is someone in front of me. I called 2 days in advance to make an appointment because bu knew I was going to be tight on time. I told him that I couldn't wait til 330/4 for my 3pm appointment. And he says he will let the guys waiting I have an appointment. Proceeds to go back to cutting the man a hair in the chair. Stops to go order food next door. Then at 3:20pm finishes the first guys hair cut. I assume he's going to come get me to get me started since I've already been so patient. No, he comes outside with food in his hand and says "one minute" well 10 min later at 3:30. He still hasn't come back out. When I first walked in tell me the place has only been there for a week. But they have 163 reviews.... Definitely something is off. Very bad experience. read more

It takes a lot to get me to write a 1-star review, but this one is well deserved. I live right across the street from this place, and I really want to make it my go-to place, because it would be so convenient. But, I've had 3 experiences here, and they've all gotten progressively worse. 1. Call to make an appointment and am told that I don't need one. I walk in right as the last available barber is seating a customer. Upon realizing I had called a few minutes previously, they awkwardly kick the other guy out and seat me. The barber tells me he "usually doesn't take appointments over walk-ins." I tell him I'm sorry, I didn't know. I'll walk in next time. All of the barbers are less professional than I'm used to. Everyone checks their phones obsessively during the cuts. The whole place is dirty and oddly arranged. But, the haircut was solid, the price was fair, and again, I really wanted this to work, so I decided to give it another shot. 2. This time, I decide to skip the appointment, since they don't seem to be set up for that. So, I walk in, and although 2 barbers are sitting down checking their phones, I'm informed that they have appointments in a few minutes, so I'll have to wait. They offer me a beer. I say "no, thanks." I ask if I can make an appointment instead. They all inform me they are booked for the rest of the day, but that 2 more barbers are on their way back from lunch and they probably have openings. Okay, cool. I take off (again, I live right across the street) and decide to call back in a few minutes. 3. I call, book an appointment with Madeline for 4:45 (30 minutes from when I'm calling). I walk in at 4:45 exactly. She is just seating another customer--literally right at my appointment time. I walk up and ask if my 4:45 appointment is with her, figuring maybe she was confused and thought the other guy had the appointment. She was not confused. She had decided to take another customer instead and told me she could get me in right after him (like it was some sort of favor). She offers me a beer. I say, "no thanks," and leave. We decided to give them a try and a short walk over from our hotel and the convention center they were able to accommodate our walk in. Matthew trimmed up my beard..Super friendly and place was sweet. I called a week prior to book a haircut and beard trim for my boyfriend for his birthday dinner that night. They were able to book an appointment for the time I asked. We showed up a few minutes before and were offered beer or water while we waited. The shop was clean and inviting. The cut and beard trim took about an house and it was well worth the time. When he showed him his new look for the first time he just couldn't stop smiling. He had never had his beard look that uniformed and his hair was awesome. Place has horrible customer service came in here and one of the barbers told me 30 minute wait. Waited over an hour and was flat out just ignored. Walked out. Saw multiple people come in after me and got haircuts. Granted they might have appointments but when you get quoted a time and wait twice that and also nobody says anything to you whats that say. I was in town for a conference at the convention center. I had flown in late the night before. I was planning on getting my hair cut before I even left, but ended up being stuck working late. I stumbled on this place while walking from my hotel to grab some food before a day of meetings. I was shocked they were open at 7:30am on Saturday. I don't remember the barber's name. He was with a client when I stopped in, but told me he could take me in about 10 minutes. I had nothing else to do that early in the morning so I sat outside and waited for him to finish up. A few minutes later he grabbed me and I ended up getting a nice cut from the guy. It cost $30 which I think is expensive, but I'm glad I was able to find a place open that early before I headed to the conference. read more

We've all seen the movie "Groundhog Day" where the same thing keeps happening over and over again. Something you can appreciate when going to your favorite restaurant, and the meal you just love and have to have is made the same way you remembered from your first visit. Or you slip into that great old pair of shoes that hugs your heal just right, well then you'll appreciate "Debonair". I was referred to him by my daughter at his shop in Carlsbad last year. After my first time in his chair I knew who my new stylist was. His attention to detail is unmatched. But the truth was told after my third, fourth and fifth visit and my style came out the same every time (Groundhog Day). I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a shop and got a satisfying cut, only to return to the same guy and he had no idea who I was and the cut showed it. Justin knows your style because that's what he creates. A style not just a cut. When he opened his second shop in San Diego, I followed him and happily make my drive from Carlsbad. Rolled in after about 3 months of not having a haircut. Having not had a good experience with any other barber in San Diego since moving here I had almost given up looking and had low expectations. I'm not terribly picky, I just don't want an uneven haircut. Barbering is perhaps a very unappreciated profession, anyone can say they can cut hair but very few can in reality. I had an appointment with Rico. Gave him very vague directions. He understood that I didn't want a super tight fade and that I like it a little longer, more traditional than is probably more popular right now. He started with a bushy mess and it turned out very well. I will be able to give him a bit more direction next time but this haircut was on point folks. I've found with good barbers they take your hair type, head shape and so already have an idea of what would look best. This is what happened. Rico cares and takes his trade seriously. You will get a very accurate haircut. Well folks, this is as good as it gets in San Diego in my opinion. I care about my hair but only so much that I feel good about it. Rico is the best. I'm Korean and my hair is tough to cut because it's thick and my head has random dents, but Rico's a pro and I walked out with one of the best fades and the cleanest cut in a while. The Shop: Really cool, minimal rustic vibe in the heart of downtown. Lots of cool barbers and clients come on the regular. The Barber: I have seen Jonathon twice so far since I first moved into San Diego and Im so stoked I found him. He has gave me two completely different cuts, one was a scalp fade with a nice combed part on top, the other was a fade with textured cut to spike / work messy. Both time he has exceeded my expectations.He has also lined my beard up as well and and has taught me styling techniques, for instance I wasn't lining my beard up correctly for my face and ever since he showed me, It looks better and I now how to do it on my own. He really cares about his clients and will take extra time to make sure you leave the shop feeling and looking great. All in All: Super happy with this place. In town visiting San Diego, walking down Market Street with some friends of mine. I look to the left and notice the cutest French Bulldog sitting at the entry to, what later came as a surprise to me.... was a barber shop. My friend who you will see on the photo, tells me, Eli... it's a Barber shop, you may want to get cleaned up. So, we walked in and I approach a young man and ask if his place was a barber shop. He responded with a warm smile and saids yes it. I then ask do you do line up beads and clean up. He said, yes, that's what we're great at. I then ask if they were open and he said, we don't open until 10am, but if you like to come back you can, but I would suggest making an appointment because we get really busy. He then said if you return at 10:15, I will set you with the appointment and I will take care of you. I then ask, about my friend and Johnathan responded and said he's scheduled too, I'll remember you both. That simple that easy! So, we eventually return for our 10:15 appointment. When Johnathan saw us walk in, he looked at us, smiled and said I'm glad you made back and welcomed us. We sat down a couple mins while he finish with his client. I watched him work and he was amazing and paid so close attention to detail. Now it was time for my friend and I to get cleaned up and what more is there for me to say to describe how great of an experience I had getting my beard cleaned up and looking great again. I called the day prior for a 10:30am appointment with Alex, based on the receptionists suggestion for the most capable barber to work with curly hair. He told me to show up the next day and ask for Alex. I did just that, and to my surprise Alex had no idea I was scheduled! It looked like someone forgot to give him the update.
